a ramble and some open questions for fandom elders (and others) about whether Snape was only made more sympathetic on account of Alan Rickman's popularity/casting, and similar things
so I stopped engaging with a tiktok creator for a while who I'd previously found very interesting because nearly every time they brought up Snape, they'd throw in some casual "if Harry was a girl, Snape would be really creepy/predatory about it" or some other weird Snape take not rooted in anything (to my mind). Like, it was weird to me because they bring in book quotes or pottermore/interview snippets to other analyses of other characters and ideas, but never Snape - for Snape, it was always just about vibes and feelings. For Snape, the fact we never hear that he killed someone or the fact we never heard that he stalked Lily is, in fact, strong evidence that he did do those things - or certainly thought about it - and certainly enough to be considered predatory and likely to dose Lily (and later a hypothetical Harriet) with a love potion or keep them in his basement, or something.
I disputed that idea in the comments one time, and some Snape supporting comments outside of mine got removed and users blocked, meanwhile my comments were (I think deliberately) misinterpreted. I stopped using tiktok entirely for a while, and never went back to see if the comments got deleted or whatever. Tiktok never gave me any further notifications about it upon re-downloading, so I guess they were removed? Idk. I have no desire to check.
but all of that is background really; she's lately posted some videos (I still find the rest of her content interesting, but apparently snape content is a no-go lool) saying that Snape's whole characterisation is different after the 'three year summer' - that is, that JKR saw how popular Snape was in the films, that she had to find a way to keep Alan Rickman on board when he wanted to leave, and that when she took her break between writing GoF and OotP I think, Snape sort of morphed into a new character and she had to attempt to redeem him (which, in her eyes, he's not redeemed even at the end which is like. ok). She implied that there's no evidence of James' bullying prior to OotP, no evidence of Snape ever having had a relationship (much less a friendship) with Lily, and that all of that was tossed into the later books retroactively to 'redeem' his character. (Obviously, I have Thoughts on that, which I'll come back to).
Of course, with the sort of... bad vibes she's built up around pro-Snape comments on her videos, all of the comments were in agreement with her. I'm also new to HP/Snape in terms of actively engaging with the fandom online, as it somehow passed me by at the time. But now I have Thoughts
So with all of that in mind, and just because I want to hear other people's thoughts but TikTok comments are a nightmare on their own with the character limit, inability to read them properly/in order, and general vibe of TikTok comments (even without the creator deleting/getting antsy about pro-Snape ideas), if anyone wants to discuss this lot, I am keen to hear people's thoughts:
Was Snape always a popular book character, or did that change/skyrocket with Alan Rickman? (For my part, I don't remember hating Snape when I read the books the first time around - in fact, I hardly remember registering him at all - but I do remember hating Umbridge).
How true is it that Snape was made 'more sympathetic' following the films? To me, it doesn't make sense; the first big, weighty suggestion of the marauders bullying Snape was in PoA, which was released mid-1999; the first evidence that Snape was spying was in GoF, in mid-2000. The first film didn't even come out (Alan Rickman's charisma included) until 2001. Weirdly, the PoA stuff the user is convinced just says that Snape was jealous of James (probably true, not denying it) but in the exact same book Remus/Sirius all but admitted to Sirius trying to kill Snape, which seems like a massive overreaction to Snape being an annoying little hater of a teen that she never comments on because, I guess, Snape deserved it?
Also, does it matter if he was made 'more sympathetic'? ootp was published in 2003, and in early 2002 Alan considered leaving. sure, JK might have added/exaggerated SWM to make him more sympathetic, but the reasons for adding in scenes don't change the fact that that's now part of the fabric of the character - a character who, by this point, had already been revealed in PoA to be the subject of a near-murder plot at the hands of the Marauders and was Very Not Okay about it; the marauders had already been described as troublemakers; Snape was already shown to be wary of Lupin for reasons that weren't solely about him being a werewolf, but about the Prank/Trick/Willow incident. An incident, much like SWM, that occurred because Sirius thought it would be "amusing" to put Snape in a horrible position. if JKR wanted to, she could've made Sirius the ringleader in SWM - but for Snape, I think she just wanted to solidify why a grown man hates a child who looks exactly like his father, which was also referenced in the early books and strongly prefaced by the events of PoA in the Shack (I don't think she had it 'all planned out' from day dot, however, but went with the vibes and fleshed out the details later). Obviously, to this creator, Lupin's idea that Snape was solely a little bitch because he hated that James was better at Quidditch is to be taken at face value, despite the fact the conversation then moves on to Snape's near-death following Sirius 'trick'ing Snape into the willow
Same as above but with his characterisation; she acknowledges that the later books are darker and have a more adult tone, but somehow it's still suspicious that Snape's sympathetic backstory was never once alluded to in earlier books (which, again, I think it's fair to say it was alluded to, but in sufficiently lacking detail so that JK could deal with it when she got there). Also with PoA and GoF especially, there are hints of Snape going from his more 'silly evil teacher' which he kind of was in books 1 and 2, heading towards the more realistic, but still delightfully bitter and flawed, adult character as the books aged up. I haven't read the books in a while I'll admit, but from the Snape passages I have read, I never noticed a sufficient difference pre or post three-year-summer that didn't match the wider tone of the books changing also.
Unlike the tiktok creator, I also think that Snape's reaction to Harry in general is almost entirely to do with James, rather than Lily's so-called rejection, and so there's no evidence that Snape would be weird to a 'Harriet' that resembled his mother, or weird to Lily if he saw her again; I think with his characterisation it's more likely that Harriet would've been treated like Hermione, Ron, or Tonks - being largely ignored with the occasional insult and told off for causing trouble - aka, how Snape would treat most people. Outside of the one isolated 'mudblood' incident, Snape was a bit of a doormat when it came to Lily (bless his heart). He followed her from the train carriage without comment, backtracked when she appeared angry in the post-prank conversation, even the "I won't let you" seemed more "I won't let you turn him into some kind of hero" or even, at a stretch, an "I won't let you be with him" out of Lily's own safety or something than "I won't let you leave me", to me - because he did just let her leave him in school? James and Snape continued hexing one another in 7th year, but there's no suggestion that Snape ever tried to be weird to Lily.
To my mind, there's no suggestion that Snape stalked Lily, no suggestion that he asked Voldemort to capture her - just to spare her. And then Snape went to Dumbledore anyway, probably immediately based on how harried he is on the windy hilltop scene, because he knew Voldemort wouldn't spare her, and even if he did, Snape would probably have to keep up the ruse of 'desiring' Lily, and do the sorts of thing Snaters suggest he wanted to do, just to keep her alive. But with Dumbledore involved, Snape wouldn't ever have the chance to imprison/love potion her - and that wasn't what he wanted. He just wanted her alive so he wouldn't have played a part in her death. I also doubt that Snape had much time to think when Voldemort revealed who he was choosing to kill; it's not as though Voldemort makes decisions by committee. He'd have revealed his plans and Snape would make a quick, panic-stricken decision to tell Voldemort that he desired Lily (which he may have done, to an extent; he'd need to draw on something to back up his request when Voldemort undoubtedly looked into his mind to see why Snape wanted to spare his Priority #1 victim). And like I say, he then set up a meeting with Dumbledore, probably immediately/as soon as he could, sensing that that wouldn't work (was he not convincing enough? Did he just know Voldemort too well? I have so many questions about how that conversation went down, and subsequent conversations about Lily which presumably occurred after V's resurrection).
anyway, no conclusion, only thoughts too rambly for tiktok comments

do you have any theories on why wickham turned out the way he did? his background sounds humble but not dirt poor as i know steward was a really valued job at the time. and as the elder mr. darcy liked him, he probably had a better life than plenty of boys. correct me if i'm wrong but i don't recall any mention of a mom or siblings, so darcy was probably his main childhood companion. it's just horrible to think that over the years he went from seeing darcy as a friend to someone he could ruin. and he was prepared to ruin georgiana's life, not just take all her money but cause a scandal so she might not ever get married again. and if darcy hadn't found lydia he'd probably just leave her where she was with no way of getting home and destroyed the bennets. like why? everyone was nothing but nice to him his whole life and all he does is hurt them and enjoy doing it. when you think about it kind of sounds evil.
From what I understand, Wickham was a failure of a system whereby a rich person would choose someone poorer to patronize. We can see other examples of this in Emma (Jane Fairfax & Harriet Smith) and especially Mansfield Park (Fanny & William Price).
The idea was that the rich would find someone worthy of improvement, sponsor their education, and give them the ability to raise into the gentry class. This sounds like what Mr. Darcy Sr. tried with Wickham, but in this case it was a failure. What ended up happening isn't that Wickham was grateful, but he ended up feeling entitled to the life of a Darcy. The novel's implication is that Wickham had a bad character, which education could not improve, and that Mr. Darcy Sr. was deceived in because Wickham had a veneer of decency.
From Darcy's Letter:
Mr. Wickham is the son of a very respectable man, who had for many years the management of all the Pemberley estates, and whose good conduct in the discharge of his trust naturally inclined my father to be of service to him; and on George Wickham, who was his godson, his kindness was therefore liberally bestowed. My father supported him at school, and afterwards at Cambridge; most important assistance, as his own father, always poor from the extravagance of his wife, would have been unable to give him a gentleman’s education. My father was not only fond of this young man’s society, whose manners were always engaging, he had also the highest opinion of him, and hoping the church would be his profession, intended to provide for him in it. As for myself, it is many, many years since I first began to think of him in a very different manner. The vicious propensities, the want of principle, which he was careful to guard from the knowledge of his best friend, could not escape the observation of a young man of nearly the same age with himself, and who had opportunities of seeing him in unguarded moments, which Mr. Darcy could not have.
Wickham's account:
“We were born in the same parish, within the same park; the greatest part of our youth was passed together: inmates of the same house, sharing the same amusements, objects of the same parental care."
In Mansfield Park, Sir Thomas talks about how difficult it will be to maintain the distinction between his daughters and Fanny, their adopted niece, and when I think about how Wickham turned out, I think this is meant to be taken seriously (even though Sir Thomas and Mrs. Norris screwed up massively):
“There will be some difficulty in our way, Mrs. Norris,” observed Sir Thomas, “as to the distinction proper to be made between the girls as they grow up: how to preserve in the minds of my daughters the consciousness of what they are, without making them think too lowly of their cousin; and how, without depressing her spirits too far, to make her remember that she is not a Miss Bertram. I should wish to see them very good friends, and would, on no account, authorise in my girls the smallest degree of arrogance towards their relation; but still they cannot be equals. Their rank, fortune, rights, and expectations will always be different. It is a point of great delicacy, and you must assist us in our endeavours to choose exactly the right line of conduct.”
Fanny feels grateful for what the Bertrams give her, even though it's scraps of a real education. Wickham ends up feeling entitled, even though he is "liberally bestowed" and that may have been the problem. He was treated too similarly to Darcy and felt that he was a Darcy, only to find out the patronage didn't go as far as he wanted.
Wickham comes off to me as one of those people who is ALWAYS innocent in his own mind, someone else is always the cause of his misfortunes (he's like Willoughby in that respect). So when he tells Elizabeth about how he lost his inheritance, I think he believes what he is saying. He does think Darcy cheated him somehow even though he was in the wrong. Darcy becomes the tyrant because Wickham refuses to be the villain of his own story.
In addition, I don't know if he would have seen Darcy as a friend. Darcy is one of the few people who can see through Wickham and a con man would hate that. Wickham's dislike of Darcy may well have started because he hates that Darcy can perceive and judge the real him.

I love Nor and her giant sad puppy eyes, I would love to know more about her
thank you!! have a hastily drawn nor ft. her giant sad sopping wet puppy eyes:
Tumblr media
+ a giant nor lore dump below the cut જ⁀➴
➸ her whole character was inspired by that one textpost that’s like, “characters with both the abject terror and desperation of an animal that knows it is cornered and destined to be eaten. you just can't get that kind of angst out a successful hunter” and this quote by james harriet: “if having a soul means being able to feel love and loyalty and gratitude, then animals are better off than a lot of humans.”
➸ she’s is the product of a union between a drow woman and a deep imaskari man. for those who don’t know, the deep imaskari are a human subrace (from 3e) that have stone-like skin and hair that’s white or black. because that’s nor’s human half, most people assume she’s completely drow upon meeting her, since did not inherit any features from her father that would make her look less like her drow mother.
➸ the deep imaskari live longer than other humans—up to 550 years—so nor ages at a rate more akin to drow and elves than half-elves or humans. nor believes she’s currently around seventy years old, though she could be off by a decade or two. she’s not sure when she was born and has long periods without human contact. she really isn’t sure how much time has passed.
➸ she has no given name, but eventually ended up going by the name ratcatcher, which is what the locals in baldur’s gate called her. halsin is the one who names her nor shortly after they meet, which is the elven word for “passion” and also “run.”
➸ this excerpt from one of my fics sums up her urchin/orphan to urban ranger/beastmaster pipeline pretty well:
Tumblr media
➸ around the age of twenty, nor grew to resent humanity so much that she decided to leave baldur’s gate and live in the forest with only animals for company for half a century. (this is when she lost track of time completely.) in the forest, she became an expert in survival, attuning her ears to the slightest twitch in the air, to every noise and smell. she lived in a cave and slept curled up beside velvet on a bed of willow leaves. the events of baldur’s gate 3 is the first time in decades that she’s had social interaction.. and it shows.
➸ she has a little wolfdog companion named velvet. (i’ve drawn him and her and halsin and scratch here). he was another half-breed who didn’t quite being anywhere, so they bonded very deeply. (fun fact: velvet killed the elder brain in my first playthrough as nor. he’s a legend in faerun now.)
➸ laezel is her bestie. they are ride or die. neither of them understand a damn thing about faerun or its inhabitants. but that also means they don’t judge each other for anything, cause they both just kind of assume what the other is doing is normal
➸ a big part of her character is her dynamic with the emperor. she gets manipulated by him so bad because he tells her everything a forgotten, unloved creature wants to hear: i need you, i’ll protect you, you’re not like other people, we’re a team, you can trust me, i want you to join me, you aren’t alone. it’s not until he begins to pressure and compel her to become illithid against her will she starts to fear him and his power over her, and after certain revelations she realizes he was using her and turns on him altogether.
➸ obviously she romances halsin. i love the dynamic of beastmaster/druid. they’re extremely well suited because they’re both such inherently good people and they bond a lot over their love for nature. they are also the only two people who can really understand each other’s animalistic quirks.
i’ve written some fics with her that you can read here if you’re interested. >:3c

Have been actively resisting re-reading lionheart lately because my reading list is sooooo long and reading time is soooooo limited, so I was extremely excited to learn about M+G Readings! I’ve listened all yesterday evening while doing chores, and I keep finding myself going back to Hermione having to pretend Draco, Harry, and Ron are girls when discussing her friends with her family. I can’t help but wonder if she made up just really horrible feminine versions of their names to help keep her from slipping up??
On the same note, it has been so much fun to go back to book one just to see how much your babies have grown and matured! They were all such little shits (affectionately) except for our sweet harry, of course.
Hello! Yes! M+G's podfic is a superlative piece of fanwork and the talent involved is off the charts. As someone with zero experience in the field of audio mixing, the whole process reads like magic to me.
The elder Mrs. Granger (not to be confused with her daughter-in-law, Dr. Granger) is, of course, always delighted to hear about her granddaughter's various adventures with Harriet, Veronica, and Darcy.

With his needed items in his grasp, Tom devoted himself solely to learning how best to utilize them as he flipped through one book after another.
From Dark Magic grimoires to the many writings left behind by those brave and foolish enough to dabble in uncharted areas of magic, Tom’s serpentine eyes sought to devour every piece of information possible on how exactly his request may be achieved.
Night after night, spell after spell, curse after curse…….failure after failure, Tom attempted to chase his new dream.
In an effort to contact Death itself, Tom had followed one of the ancient texts he had acquired and by doing so, drained his own life force nightly with the resurrection stone beside him, the cloak draped over one shoulder, and the Elder Wand held in his hand only by the end.
The tip lay against his vein.
Over and over, Tom chanted the incantation, until his eyes bulged out of his withered head and his lips cracked.
Without food or sleep, he slipped dangerously close to dying.
Too close in fact, on that fateful fourth evening.
Tom blinked his glassy, serpentine eyes as the shadowy, hooded figure in front of him bent close to his face.
“……..You’re Death, aren’t you?” He sighed,
Death said nothing as it reached one of it’s hands forward, no flesh visible, only bones composed of whispering shadows.
“I have the Hallows.” Tom swallowed dryly as he glanced around the room, “And I know that I am not yet dead in body……..So you cannot touch me.”
Death loomed in front of Tom’s haggard face for a long, silent moment as if contemplated an unspoken question.
Tom’s nostrils flared at the foul stench carried by the thing who regarded him so coldly.
“But I will follow you from this world to the next, willingly, if you can complete one simple task………Take me to my wife.” Tom snarled.
Death cocked the shadowy crook that resembled its head.
“Take me to her now!” Tom spat, his teeth grit, lips pulled back, “I can bear this world no longer! Take me beyond the veil so that I may rest……. In her arms at last!”

Hiatus ended!
Hey everyone, sorry we haven't posted our dnd stories in months! There's been a lot going on but basically it got too hard to for the same person who takes quotes to also be one of our current DMs and the whole thing got too overwhelming.
We are only going to be posting quotes from our TTC sessions for now, as the problem came from DM Tati trying to take quotes while running GSP sessions. Sorry to those who enjoyed the shenanigans of Diardi, Gregor, Harriet, Hesty, Hunter, WA and Winnifred, but you'll just have to imagine how their story continues.
We have still been playing all this time, so instead of trying to catch up with quotes we'll summarize Travelling Trauma Centre's adventures in the intervening months (under cut) and then pick up at our current point!
What has TTC been up to since we last posted?
We finished the dungeon The Court of the Crimson King, eventually destroying all but one of the automaton bosses including the Crimson King and his mecha red dragon (Ashiok died in that fight by being completely fucking bisected, but we brought her back to life). We made a truce with the Purple Piper, who without his King to give orders had no further desire for conquest, and went on to hire him and his remaining half dozen automata to guard our manor in Suda (important later) while he proves himself trustworthy.
We then made our way to a town where the son of the mayor kept being kidnapped and ransomed, financially ruining the mayor. We discovered it was a long-term scam wherein the mayor's son had been replaced by a changeling (the real son was living happily with the changeling clan!) and kept getting kidnapped on purpose, but in a twist the 'son' had grown fond of the mayor and wanted to stop robbing him. We brokered a deal between the factions that benefitted everyone (except the changeling leader who went to jail) and convinced the changelings to find more honest work.
From there we travelled up the nearby mountain where there was a dragon we'd been meaning to deal with, Nimble Claws. We had previously encountered a green dragon called The Rotten who had been injured when the younger blue took over his territory. By all accounts life in the mountain had been worse for pretty much everyone since. Unfortunately Nimble Claws had also moved in her elder dragon boyfriend since claiming the territory so we had a lot of dragon on our hands. The Rotten met us there and we managed to sneak all the way into the lair and challenge the boyfriend Cosnemra (chaddest dragon to ever chad) to a duel. We eventually killed Cosnemra and took his skull, whereupon The Rotten (taking Cosnemra's name) decided that instead of killing Nimble Claws and reclaiming his territory would rather move in with her and her egg, allowing her to continue her tyranny. We left with intent to level up and come back to wipe them both out.
We knew peace in Suda for a short while before we were woken in the night by the sounds of fighting. Our brand new automaton guards were fending off a hit squad of kuo'toa, and beyond our garden the city was in flames. We spent a frantic night beating back the kuo-toa hordes and eventually made it to the palace in time to prevent the monsters making it to the emperor (though a lot of people died that night). It turned out the one pulling the strings was... Larissa Firespit, the dragonborn lich we'd already killed twice but whose phylactery we'd failed to destroy before she spawned a third time. Unfortunately with the kuo'toa on her side she was on the cusp of ascending to godhood, and she was intent on finishing us off for good this time. We stole a couple hours of sleep and then stormed her temple in the sewers beneath the city, where she was accompanied by four angels suspiciously veiled in spiderwebs. She put up a tough fight but eventually she was destroyed.
We trudged wearily back to the palace to report to Emperor Cherish and his head bodyguard Dorphi. We told him of all that had transpired and confirmed with one of his personal divination wizards that the lich was finally gone permanently. We then went on to warn him that one of the nobles in the city was really Lolth in disguise, and she had aided Larissa in the attack with her angels and her divine influence. At that moment who should walk in to the emperor's chambers but Lolth in her noble disguise. She berated us for throwing away the perfect opportunity she had given us - to have Larissa kill the emperor so that we could go on to defeat the lich and have Billie take the throne as she was destined to do (she also admitted she had produced the quests that removed all our allies from the city just days before). When we asked why, she declared that she was still determined to have our help in defeating Demogorgon, and we were going to need the resources of the throne to succeed. She then tried to force us to kill the emperor, and when it became clear we weren't going to she threw a deadly spear at him herself, barely intercepted by the party tanks. We resorted to our old ways of bag of holding abuse; Seraph stuffed the emperor into her Bag and then teleported away to our bolt hole at the nearby university. The Spider Queen conceded the day to us and left, while old friend and deus ex machina Maria Cleaves teleported back into the city to help. Everyone reconvened back at the palace and Billie made a plan with the emperor to officially declare her legitimate claim (and loyalty) to the throne and name her as heir, to remove the need for Lolth to kill him.
-
This was a pivotal sequence for TTC and levelled us to 21 (the beginning of Epic Tier; 4th edition having 30 player levels) and granting us our Epic Destinies. During the conversation with Lolth Thaddeus called on Pelor for strength and in response was made an Exalted Angel complete with wings and halo. By summoning Maria and teleporting the emperor away from certain death, Seraph connected directly to the source of magic and became Magic Incarnate. Ashiok was once again dominated by Lolth as god of the drow, but that humiliation and pain catalyzed her path as a Harbinger of Doom destined to destroy Lolth. Billie's refusal to betray the emperor and her oath to make things right in her own way made her a Topaz Crusader with a particular enmity for demons. Kjell's fearlessness in the face of divinity unlocked his Archfey bloodline. Godric had already been offered a fusion of souls and power by his patron, and will take up his chosen destiny the next time they meet.
Following these climactic events TTC needed some down time and spent the last few weeks of the summer on a road trip, visiting family around Persia. Seraph finally returned to the village of Moraspire that was destroyed in her childhood to find it rebuilt and thriving, but her parents confirmed dead. Thaddeus checked in on the tiny village of Piravhaz and found all was well, which he had set out as an adventurer to ensure. Billie visited her baker mums for the first time since being driven out of her village and finally caught them up on all her adventures. Kjell took us to meet his family, finally able to show them the fine man he has become since his difficult departure. Godric decided not to visit his family, having finally made peace with his past and no longer needing their approval or validation to love himself. The party then returned to Suda to sort things out re: Billie's adoption to the royal family, and to embark on the next arc of their extraordinary story.

Give me your HM headcannons or else I will also eat your HM fanart
(your style is so squishy and warm like a freshly baked brownie or cookie)
you would EAT the termites art?? you would eat the termites art like cookie??? oh! oh! jail for anon!! jail for anon for 1000 years!!!
but seriously, i will GLADLY spew all my headcanons at you (buckle up anon!!) (also, thank you!!! this made my day :D)
kent:
first off, i like to think that his dad was an actual priest. idk which denomination (i think thats the word) he would be. basically, i headcanon that movie kent is queer (not labelled or anything. in my au hes gay tho) basically, his dad didnt accept him, and since kent was a basement dweller still living with his dad, his dad kicked him out, which is how kent ended up in new orleans working at a costume store and pretending to be a priest.
also, i headcanon that he was living out of his car during the movie, and thats why he was so excited to move into the mansion/do all the food runs. hes homeless.
also, he plays d&d and his character is 100% a half-elf cleric.
ben:
bisexual he/they. idk if he uses the label masc enby or demiboy, but...look at him. the most bisexual he/they to ever bisexual he/they.
also he has autism. thats canon because i say so.
gabbie:
i havent seen this one as much, but i also hc gabbie as bi. she just gives off the vibes idk.
also, i like to think that she used to play volleyball in high school. not for any particular reason, she just seems like the type who would be like "yeah im just a mom, lets play volleyball with my middle aged friends :)" and then she just absolutely MURDERS everyone
leota:
lesbian.
also, she charges $3 every time someone asks her a question post-canon. for kent, the price is $5. she calls it the idiot tax. she thinks kent is the biggest idiot to ever be stupid.
harriet:
LESBIAN.
also, she has, like, teenage-girl style posters of leota all over her room. i think, by extension, her celebrity crush would be jamie lee curtis (if she exists in this universe.)
also, i like to think that she would be a jennifer tilly simp (in homage to the original leota actress) and she would be a total chucky lore buff.
travis:
hes got the autistic swagger as well. once everyone gets used to him at school he ends up with a load of friends that think hes actually really cool. he gets to brag about having such a big family, and he tells "elaborate" stories about ghosts during class.
bruce:
elder gay. he helps kent come to terms with himself, and acts like the father-figure he needed. he's supportive whenever kent needs it, lightens the mood when the mood calls for it, and teases kent like hes a middle schooler whenever kent talks about who hes romantically interested in.
(i hope you dont mind that i didnt do any ghost hcs--i feel like not many hm blogs focus on the people from this movie! if you want to hear my ghost hcs, feel free to ask :D)

Here is some more from six lies and one truth (it'll be a loong one shot or a seven-chapter story. Hopefully)
At the end of the war, Harry knows this. She lost. And at the end of it, she realized she never really lived.  At the end of the war, Lord Voldemort knows this.  He won. But he had to let go of the girl who holds a piece of his soul. To Voldemort, victory has never felt so hollow. He feels robbed. To Harry, loss has never felt so relieving. She feels free. Red eyes pierce into her. Green eyes do not lift to return his gaze.
The one who never cared about being immortal is the Master of Death. Luck, Voldemort knows, is always infuriatingly on Harriet Potter's side.
When they finish the proceedings, they rise. He knows the Hogwarts staff does not want or require assistance with rebuilding, so he orders his forces to leave Hogwarts grounds at once.
The Hogwarts staff and students file out, as well.
The girl — who is so many things at once — stands looking at the courtyard, the sun lighting most of her profile while a part of her lingers in shadow. With the sunlight, the red welt on her cheek where he’d slapped her is starkly visible, and he wonders if the touch of his hand lingers on her cheek, for the feel of her soft skin lingers on his hand, still, raw and tender.
At last, those striking emerald eyes shift to him. She has to look up to meet his gaze completely.
There they stand, under the entrance archway, cloaked in sun and shadow both. In the rubble of their own making.
“The wand,” says the girl who kept living, extending her open palm.
It was in the agreement. Voldemort still kept his yew wand in the other pocket. He was to give the Elder Wand to its master — Harry.
It left a vile taste in his mouth, but also filled him with relief. The wand never felt quite right to him. Not like his yew wand had. He would never admit it, but he was glad to be rid of it.
Voldemort placed the Elder Wand into Harry's hand. Her fingers wrapped around the handle. It looked far too long for her fingers, and he thought he saw her mouth twist in disgust at the sight of it.
“Thanks,” she said, and moved back to the nearest table. He lingered, wondering what she was doing. It wasn't his business, but he couldn't help but gravitate toward her.
There was a soft clatter of wood. Voldemort saw the remnants of holly wood. He had no idea Harry's wand had been broken...
Harry pointed the Elder Wand at the two pieces, and said, “Reparo.”
The wood mended together, and Voldemort felt his own wand crackle in his pocket.
Voldemort witnessed Harry’s smile for the first time, as she gazed at her fixed wand. She pulled it into her grip, her eyes glowing. Strangely, Voldemort understood very well what she was feeling.
Harry stowed the Elder Wand into her wamd pocket, and moved toward the archway.
Voldemort did not know what made him do it. It was an instinct, to reach out for her — one of the last two of his Horcruxes — and grab her elbow.
Harry stilled. Her eyes strayed to her elbow where his skeletal, long fingers held her.
“Come with me.” he said.
This, Voldemort also did not understand why he spoke. He supposed because Harry was as equally vulnerable as Nagini to harm.
“You are my Horcrux,” he said, possessed by a need to protect, to keep safe. She has a piece of him inside her. “You should stay with me, where it is safe.”
Harriet Potter snarled, and wrenched her arm out of his grasp.
“We’re done, Voldemort,” she said. She sighed, and he wondered whether it was the weight of his soul or the weight of owning the chains controlling Death causing the tiredness inside her. “Good riddance. I've had enough of you for a lifetime.”
“Goodbye,” said Harry.
Harry stepped into the light, and didn't look back, leaving Voldemort alone between the line of the sun and the shadow.

Continuation of the story where Uma isn’t on the Isle. I’m posting it here and now, because I don’t think I can continue in this direction.
You see, the Hooks are behaving far too rationally and we can’t have that.
So, there is a royal hostage aboard Dead Beauty.
That’s neat, yes.
Poetic, even – Beauty’s son, Dead Beauty–
Harry giggles at the twisted ways of the fate, and immediately, his sister’s exceptionally surly voice asks from the Captain’s cabin: „Harrison James Hook, what did you do?“
And why, he hadn’t done anything at all, just nicked a little hostage, isn’t that what pirates do? His sister can’t be mad for that.
He giggles again and shoves the king away, towards the mast, for someone to catch and tie up and not let go, and he drinks before he says: „Why, Ettie, didn’t do nothing, nothing at all, just brought the king here, why are you asking, sister dear?“
„I call bullshit,“ his beloved elder sister gruffs, unamused, and Harry might or might not have flung his dagger at her door at that point.
Figures.
Her fault for being a bitch.
And no answer, either: So he walks forth and lets himself into the room, taking the knife, too – hey, it’s a good knife!
He is reasonably sure the crew will have the king tied, but, few death threats never killed anyone: „You’re responsible for him with your miserable existences, you scallywags, and no chit chats!“ he calls out, just before shutting the door behind himself.
„The fuck you want, Harry?“ says Harriet instead of greeting. She sits at her table, legs propped up on it, and some papers in her lap. She is leaning back in the chair rather heavily, and half-empty glass of red wine stands on the table. (Pretentious bitch, she might have been working, all right, but she ain’t drinking just wine–)
Harry sits at the chair opposite her and hits his own flask at the table: „We’ve got the king, Ettie,“ he says, „And if we don’t I’m going to kill that little Tremaine.“
„Bullshit,“ she says, and, „You were at the Tremaines?“
Why, yes, he was, of course he was, what else would he do?
„Irrelevant,“ he waves his hand and then tuts: „You should really trust your first mate in matters like these, soror cara, but I suppose you could just go and see with your own two eyes…“
As if that would do any good – Harry almost laughs at the thought.
„I suppose I will.“ Harriet glares holes through him as she takes a last swig of her wine and stalks out of the cabin.
Whatever.
He takes the fine opportunity to rummage around a bit and liberate some of her eyeliner; he tunes out the screams outside.
She comes back an eternity later, and he is sitting in her chair – she doesn’t kick him off immediately.
Instead, she collapses on the chair in front of her own desk and pulls out the flask she is keeping in her breast pocket.
„Holy fuck, you weren’t kidding.“

Hi, what are your honest thoughts on the Magic ban on the Isle and Auradon? I'm currently writing a story where the characters read Isle of the Lost.
Here's a snippet:
“In short, he was the very sort of person that the people of the Isle of Lost despised. And, as on the Isle of the Lost, magic was no longer a factor in daily life in Auradon either. King Beast and Queen Belle stressed scholarship above enchantment, exhorting the young people to work hard instead of relying on fairy spells or dragon friends for help. Because Beast was the most powerful figure in all the kingdoms, when he proposed the new work ethic, nobody argued against him. It was indeed a new (once upon a) time for the people of the fabled fairy-tale lands…”
“Oh no, we don’t hate you guys” Harriet shook her head, “we hate Beast.”
“Understandable,” Tyrone said.
“Ok, the billion dollar question I have to ask is, if magic is no longer a factor in Auradon, then why people like me still has it?” Anxelin asked, seriousness forming in her voice. “Why Uma, Freddie and Mal has it? I want to hear it from the most powerful being in little Auradon, King Beast.” Her hazel eyes were sparkled with challenge.
Ben turned to the goth girl. “But Anxelin, I’m the King here now,”
Anxelin scrunched her face. “Eh…you don’t strike me as the powerful and fearful type. Sorry Ben, but I’m being blunt here.”
Ben’s shoulders slumped as he blinked at Anxelin.
“Anyways,” Anxelin tore eyes from Ben to his father. “I want to hear from Beast,” Anxelin said. “Come on, I’m waiting.”
Beast opened his mouth to come up with a suitable answer but he couldn’t.
And Anxelin smirked at him.
“I knew you couldn’t answer,” Anxelin shook her head. “Blue Fairy literally used magic and brought all of us here and place a anti-sleeping spell on us so we wouldn’t get tired, and you’re here saying that young people or anybody at all shouldn’t use magic? I call this whole weird anti-magic thing bullshit.”
Harriet grinned. Now she liked Anxelin even more!
“Anxelin…” Rapunzel sighed. She had no idea what to do with her elder daughter and her expletives, but she had to agree with Anxelin’s statement.
“I mean, Rock Star has a point there, Blondie,” Eugene said.
“I know.”
“To add to Anxelin’s statement, if magic is frowned upon or no longer a factor, why is there a magical barrier and a dome?” Meg asked. “If the Isle is a prison island, couldn’t be there guards to guard the Isle like regular penitentiaries?”
“That’s an excellent question, Meg,” Phoebus and Shang chorused.
Number one, your writing is fantastic. Number two I'll reblog this later with my magic meta because I'm on my phone and that's an essay I need to type on my computer.

Hawthorne kids and their personalities + name meanings
Harriet
Name meaning: Ruler of the Household. Home ruler.
Harriet takes her role as the eldest very seriously; more seriously than her brother takes his role as the oldest son. From a young age she shadows her father, both out of admiration and duty. She knows more about the family accounts and how the affairs of the city her father runs better than anyone else. Although she cannot inherit her father’s estate, Harriet surely knows how to run it. She’s practically his heir in every way. And her relationship with her father only grows as she ages and takes her responsibilities as eldest more seriously, reminding him of himself at her age.
Colette
Name meaning: People of victory.
Colette skirts the line between perfect lady and perfect rebel. She has a similar attitude to her elder cousin, Eloise, but also understands her duty as a daughter of a nobleman. Instead she uses her position and knowledge to do whatever she can to secure a man who will allow her the freedom to be as outspoken as she likes. But her role as second oldest is rarely neglected, oftentimes keeping her younger siblings out of trouble— when she isn’t being dragged into it that is.
Louis
Name meaning: Famous warrior.
The oldest son and heir to the Hawthorne estate, Louis scarcely takes his role seriously compared to his sister. He prefers his childish antics, even into adulthood, over the responsibilities that must be thrust upon him. He sees his duty as a burden and chooses not to accept it, however does not react well to any challenges against his authority. Particularly his oldest sister, Harriet. Despite any conflict with her, Louis gets along with the rest of his siblings considerably well, but especially his twin.
Matilda
Name meaning: Mighty in battle. Powerful battler.
Being the twin sister to Louis, they’re as thick as thieves and as mischievous too. Throughout their lives they’ve been known to get into trouble, causing it at every possible opportunity. Being one of eight daughters, Matilda doesn’t put much effort into making herself unique in comparison to her sisters. Instead she usually opts to follow her twin’s lead. She’s also Louis’s biggest advocate when their oldest sister, Harriet, is chastising him for not taking his position as the first son seriously.
Guinevere
Name meaning: White wave. White phantom. Fair one.
The quietest of the siblings, Guinevere prefers the solitude of the gardens on their castle’s grounds. Or a library where she may spend her time with her face in a book. She tends to stay out of her siblings’ arguments, but if sides are needed to be taken she usually sticks with Harriet. Guinevere has a unique relationship with the siblings immediately above and below her, finding it difficult to be in between two sets of twins. But she makes herself particularly outspoken when terms of the future of the family are being laid out, having a fierce love for her family.
Abigail
Name meaning: Father’s joy.
Outspoken and stubborn just like her namesake, Abigail prefers to stick with either her twin or her younger sister Theodora. That is not to say she doesn’t get along with her siblings— she does, very much so. But she has a preference of who spends most of her social energy on, and many of her sisters don’t share her interests. She greatly enjoys reading, and adores Shakespeare, and she’s a musical prodigy. She’s skilled in the pianoforte, viola, and harp. She often will withdraw to her room when upset and play one of the various instruments in there.
Aurora
Name meaning: Dawn.
The bubbliest and sweetest of the Hawthorne children, Aurora is eager to please and she seeks approval. She follows the rules and rarely talks back; only when she feels something is unfair or when her twin, Abigail, encourages her to. Other than that, Aurora is seen as the perfect lady. She often plays peacemaker among her siblings, especially during arguments between Harriet and Louis. And like her twin, she is also a musical prodigy skilled in the pianoforte, harpsichord, and cello, as well as singing.
Theodora
Name meaning: Gift of God.
Theodora is the most studious of her siblings, taking her education very seriously. She has a love of learning and knowledge, something that often isolates her from them. She prefers to spend her time in a library, learning about ancient history or various classical literatures or new mathematics. She studies botany and nature, and knows a host of languages: Latin; Italian; French; German; Spanish; and Portuguese. As the most levelheaded and knowledgeable of her siblings, Theodora oftentimes approaches situations with a logical outlook.
Grace
Name meaning: Graceful. Favor. Blessing.
Much like her sister, Aurora, Grace is a sweet young lady and is seen as another perfect lady. She’s very agreeable but surefooted in her life. As the youngest daughter, Grace watched her sisters growing up and learned from them. She’s an amalgamation of her sisters and mother, and Grace found her place among the siblings. She loves her family and is friendly to everyone she meets, but beware getting on her bad side. She is unforgiving and knows how to ruin a reputation with a good rumor or reveal of a scandalous secret— none of which could be traced back to her. Grace will protect her family at any length.
Connor
Name meaning: High will. Desire. Wise. Lover of hounds.
The youngest of the Hawthorne siblings and the second son, Connor is spoiled very much like the rest of his siblings. However, he’s also a gentleman. Fiercely protective of his sisters, Connor isn’t afraid to use his father’s status in society to intimidate men he finds unworthy of his sisters. Despite that, he has a playful side. He enjoys annoying his older siblings, and he enjoys being a partner in crime to Louis and Matilda’s mischief.

For ficlet friday, which is a wonderful idea and you have my everlasting gratitude for thinking it up and deciding to do it: Fem Harry Potter/Salazar Slytherin
Thank you, lady! I'm happy to hear that you enjoy Ficlet Fridays. They are definitely fun to do.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
High Lady Harriet Peverell heads down to the Chamber of Secrets as soon as the Final Battle is finished, as soon as she has completed the prophecy, as soon as the Deathstick is in her hand, as soon as she is officially the High Lady of Eternal Death, an Oligarchy maiden.
She walks past the shed snakeskin, past the mad basilisk she slayed as a young girl of twelve years, and to the ritual circle in the corner of the chamber—the Olde Runes glow golden, the same as before, powering the shield that protects High Lord Salazar Slytherin beneath what looks like solid emerald.
Harriet presses the tip of the Elder Wand against the shield and passes right through it as if it doesn’t even exist, pausing at his side, longing beating in her heart that has not subsided since she first discovered him and regained her memories of being his wife.
Hands shaking, Harriet whispers, “Not even death could keep me from your side forever, my prince,” and kisses his lips, shattering the enchantment that has kept him preserved until her rebirth.
Salazar’s eyes snap open and he deepens the kiss, his hands delving into her hair as he floods their soul-bond with an avaricious love that would terrify a weaker witch, and speaks into her mind, “You have finally returned to me, my princess.”
