My thoughts:
I wonder if more people would've shipped Edward and Jacob together if one of them was female and immediately forgot Bella because they were focused on the enemies to lovers, sunshine meets midnight rain, tough mechanic girl meet tortured introverted artist. Etc
Give me your thoughts on what you prefer or how you think this would play out.

I just realized that the largest residential boarding school was named Carlisle. So not only does SM have a confederate soldier as a main character but named another after a school that has brought nothing but pain in every way to thousands of people, ranging from the students that attend, to their parents and their children, and to every one of their bloodlines later generations. And to have a real tribe in her books that she used to her advantage. She didn't ask, she didn't respect them in any way, all for money and fame.

Since today is that day, I have wondered if you have any idea as to why Stephenie Meyer chose this day to be Renesmee's birthday?
I mean, I know her birthday is meant to be 2 days before Bella’s and hers is the 13th September, but I’ve always wondered why she chose that specific day 🤔
You know, I have to say, I find it hilarious when you anons seem to think I have any kind of insight into what Meyer is thinking about any given topic.
That woman is an alien to me, I have no idea why she makes the writing decisions she makes.

Listening to midnight sun - mostly because I like to listen to audiobooks while I work but I can’t follow them if I don’t already know the story
And Stephanie Meyer has a real problem with writing Pedophilia doesn’t she because the adult woman school administrator is frantically reminding herself that Edward is too young which I feel like she wouldn’t have to do if she sincerely thought of her students as off limits

Controversial Opinion:
there are zero benefits to being a twilight Vampire. You can't sleep or eat anymore. Not even to mix blood with anything because food automatically tastes like ash. The only way to avoid killing humans is to eat animals. And it still sucks because it will never fully satisfy you. Your always a hair trigger away from killing someone because the blood thirst is that bad. You can't fly or turn into a bat. Which is one of my favorite things about vampires the flying and the turning into cute bats.
Tumblr media
The only things that can kill you is this tribe in Forks that can turn into big wolves or the vampire mafia ripping you to pieces and burning the remains. If you live near said tribe in Forks you end up ruining their lives because your very presence activates their wolf defense mechanism. You look like an idiot in the sunlight and sparkle like a disco ball. You have to constantly be careful of your strength because you can easily kill something with a flick of your finger. When your not hunting for blood your constantly either bored or having to pretend to be a high school kid forever? And you can only have sex with other vampires because you can easily kill humans. Like what benefits do you get from being a vampire forever? Being an immortal cold mannequin were your family dies in front of you, and your stuck with the most boring toxic person forever? No thank you.
Tumblr media
Stephanie Meyer just sucked out all the gothic emo tim burton fun things about being a vampire and I won't have it. Thank you Smeyer for forever adding your sucky ideas to Vampire lore. 🧛‍♂️

@simsim54 you've just inspired me
OK, Twilight fans, first off for the people who are homophobes, haters, and racists please leave and ignore this post if you don't like it.
Secondly, fans. Like all of you, i love twilight, but I feel like Stephanie Meyer had very poor execution on the story. Bella and Edward LITERALLY had little to no chemistry, and they cringy af, and everything felt rushed, especially if you looked at the timeline of events that was happening from twilight to Breaking dawn.
But one of my old posts got me thinking.
What if Stephanie had made Jacob female, and she was Jacqueline black (I know Jacob's fem name is Julie, but I feel like Jacqueline suits them better)
What if Stephanie Meyer, instead of making a girl with little to no personality and giving awkward introverts a bad name. She made this Bad@$$ Indigenous she-wolf mechanic shape-shifter who was loyal to her tribe, proud of her culture and freaking tough as nails but the most motherly person you'll ever meet and alpha female materials, then paired this woman to our awkward introverted gentleman vampire artist who could read her thoughts and they started out as enemies and then it became a slow burn to lovers.
I personally feel like if this story was written write then this would've made a waaaaayyyyyy better movie and way less cringe.
I will be first to say that sterek ate the child of the sheriff of a small town falling in love with a supernatural hottie. But Bella and Edward were cringe and very funny, and I couldn't take their love story seriously for more than two seconds. Sterek did it better, and even the fanfics ate.
But Edward Cullen, who is a vampire and a part of the Cullen clan, fell in love with Jacqueline Black. Daughter of Billy Black and great-granddaughter of Ephraim Black. A descendant of an alpha and a chief! Who also has issues with her older sisters. She is also part of Quileute tribe.
THIS REEKS OF SLOW BURN ENEMIES TO FORBIDDEN LOVERS!!!!!
And their children being hybrids will also be interesting.
I'm serious when I say that this story has potential, and if done correctly, it would have me reading on repeat.
Jacqueline and Edward hate each other at first sight because of who they are, then Jacky imprints on him, tries to hide it, but then sparks a relationship between her and Edward (with Seth's help of course), some of the cullens being extremely supportive of their relationship (apart from Rosalie who took some getting used to but slowly accepting Jacky), Jacqueline's pack finding out and the pack drama happens, Jacky's sisters making an appearance
Plus, the beautiful Romance between these two with the forbidden love. Plus, we can add in a cameo of Bella here and there. But Charlie would definitely be involved, and his relationship with Sue should be slow and not SUE LITERALLY GOING AFTER CHARLIE WHEN HER HUSBAND'S BODY IS NOT EVEN COLD YET!!!!
Seriously dudes, this has SO MUCH POTENTIAL!
CAN SOMEONE POINT ME IN THE DIRECTION OF THIS FANFIC OR WRITE IT PLEASE?!?!?!

Edward: Black. Jacob: *overhears* Edward: Black? Jacob: *about to speak up* Edward: No, Cullen-Black? Edward: Jacob Cullen Or Edward Black Jacob: *from around a corner* Edward Cullen sounds much better if I do say so myself. Edward: How much of that did you hear? Jacob: *walks out* or you and I could be Cullen-Black. But I think we should plan this once we start dating Edward: Are you asking me out? Jacob: I don't know Mr. Cullen-Black, am I?

i do not enjoy harry potter anymore and even when i did, snape was not a character i ever liked, but for some reason my ‘for you’ page is just full of dedicated snape stan accounts and i hate it
#anti jk rowling#anti severus snape#anti harry potter#like okay i remain a strong proponent of ‘you are allowed to like whatever fiction you like’#but it’s important to consider whether the author—when presenting certain subjects—critically evaluates their own opinion on those subjects#like how stephanie meyer in twilight thinks it’s funny to have all the vampires make dog jokes at jacob because he’s a werewolf#but he’s native so it comes off as REALLY racist#(and also in the case of jkr specifically she’s using her money from hp to fund terf shit LET HP DIE)#and the dozen-ish snape takes i’ve seen seem to demonstrate these accounts are either not interested in or cannot critically evaluate snape#a character written by a woman to be a redeemable asshole who take out a petty schoolyard resentment against a kid’s dad ON THE KID#the orphaned abused kid i might add—when the redeemable man in question is implied to have come from an abusive home himself#i just saw one like ‘oh if it’s okay to call him ‘snivellus’ then it must be okay to call luna ‘loony’ right?#sorry when was luna joining a hate group against muggles and muggle-borns#i don’t deny james and co bullied snape quite viciously but he gave back just as much and also never grew out of that pettiness#not to mention he only turned from voldemort because he was specifically going to kill lily#all other muggleborns dying was apparently just fine by him#i still don’t get the love of this character not because it’s a bad thing to like villainous characters#but it’s ALWAYS the justification of his actions—as if he was in the right to bully harry (an orphaned abused child) because of harry’s dad#there’s no criticism consideration of the author’s biases in there#should you not be a bit concerned that she thinks calling your best friend a slur ‘ONE TIME’ is something that should be just forgotten#aj abstractions

Was desperate enough to use the search function to find posts about The Host by Stephenie Meyer and I just wanted to say, I love your takes and I agree with everything.
The love square never made sense. Jared and Melanie were impossible to root for because the sole basis of their love was that Melanie felt safe with him and Melanie was the last woman on Earth to Jared, and then neither of those things turn out to be true so all they have is intense sexual chemistry. And especially in contrast to Ian and Wanda, how and why am I supposed to care about them? And there is no reason for Wanda to love Jared. I get her falling in love with him through Melanie’s memory of him, but the reality ought to have shattered that illusion for both of them IMO. Especially for Melanie, because he’d rather scream at and hit her body rather than even entertain the hope she might be in there. Sure, he protects it from other humans, but then he abuses it, so that’s not in fact protection; it’s possession.
The gender bioessentialism never made sense. Sure, Wanda’s in a female body and can make the choice to reproduce, which is super cool. But given that her sense of gender hinges on that ability to reproduce and given that that ability is super rare, why would other Souls gender themselves? I think being agender or someone who just didn’t give a damn about pedantic human gender roles would have been super interesting for Wanda’s character and I think it would have added more dimension to her and Ian’s relationship. He barely had to struggle with the fact that the body she was in belonged to an attractive cisgender girl and he was a cishet man, in spite of Meyer’s weak attempts to call that into question. The gender question might have thrown him for more of a loop.
Contrast that to Jared’s very comphet interpretation of his relationship with Melanie, and ooh baby, we’ve got a stew!
Also would have liked more exploration on ethics in general. Why do the Souls care about the well-being of the organisms on the Fire Eater planet but not on Earth? Instead of stopping from eating them, do they steal their bodies too? And the humans killing other humans in an attempt to save them: Is it okay to murder them if they’re the ones doing the murdering, like before?
Sorry for the long ask. I just have a lot of thoughts. Please feel free to block and ignore if this is too weird. Genuinely no intention to bother or offend and I’m sorry if I have.
Oh man I'm always ready to rant about The Host with people!
Yeah I feel like Meyer thought she was saying something really deep about human nature and the way that our instincts drive us? And there is something there, like, your body having a reaction to another person and that affecting your behavior is interesting! In my opinion she just went WAY too far with it, and it makes the characters seem unrealistic and childish. The ways that both Melanie and Wanderer act around Jared are bizarre (this may partially be my ace spectrum talking but like, c'mon.) Jared just kinda sucks, also. The whole idea that there's this inherent magnetism between MEN and WOMEN and that that physical attraction is the most important thing in the world is so heteronormative and amatonormative and uncomfortable
And the book was SO CLOSE to having an interesting take on gender! Examing the genders and/or lack thereof of a body-snatching alien species could be so fun! There's even the mention of the alien species with three genders, and talking about their family structures. You would think that something like that would indicate a more expansive view on gender, but really it's just an extrapolation of more bioessentialism. Because that species has those biological sexes, their families MUST be steucturedin this way, because that's what's natural for them. There's no room for variability or different sorts of feelings. She completely equates gender with biology, even when that biology is being coopted by a hitchhiker.
You're so right about Ian and Wanderer, I would love more examinations of how different she is from humans, including in a gender sense, and them having to deal with that as a part of their relationship. Setting up Jared as someone very entrenched in social norms and Ian as a foil to him in that way sounds really interesting!
Soul society and ethics are SO fascinating. I do sincerely think that Meyer is an compelling fantasy and sci fi world builder, if nothing else.
It's late and I feel like I'm a little incoherent but I love getting to chat about this book, it's so infuriating but so fun, now I want to read it again.

If you hate on Harry Potter fans (many of whom are children, btw) regardless of whether they agree with Rowling's views
I wonder why you don't treat fans of the following franchises the same way:
Dilbert
Tumblr media
Scott Adams is a misogynistic racist who describes Black people as a “hate group” and says women should be “treated like children and the mentally handicapped”.
Ender’s Game
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Orson Scott Card is racist (among other things, he described Obama in his blog as being liked because Obama’s “a black man who talks like a white man”) and wildly homophobic (e.g. he said in 1990 that sodomy laws should stay in the books, in 2004 he said that homosexuals are self-loathing victims of child abuse, etc).
Twilight
Tumblr media
Stephanie Meyer’s series glorifies an unhealthy relationship dynamic and exploits a real Indigenous tribe which has yet to receive any monetary compensation for her cartoonish use of their people to make money. (You can help the Quileute tribe move their homes out of the area that will be flooded by global warming here, btw).
Twilight is being turned into a tv series just like Harry Potter.
The Handmaid’s Tale
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Margaret Atwood shared a transphobic article.

I cringe thinking about the about 2010s and all the generic young adult vampire romance books that flooded bookstores for years because of Twilight's influence, but at the same time, I understand why they were there. It's sad that a lot of writers were probably pressured to shit these things out in order to be able to sell books. And in the end, it did nothing for their careers. We talk a lot about fast fashion, but I think we need to talk about fast fiction. Talented writers should not have to write shitty knock-offs that are ultimately meant to carry the careers of Stephanie Meyer, J.K. Rowling, and the like.
