Do you think anything would be different in Twilight if Billy and Harry had shifted?
I know they didn’t shift in the original cause there were no vampires near them during their adolescence (I think that was the reason), but sometimes I think what if they shifted, so I’m wondering what you think about it xx
(Gladly passing this on to @therealvinelle as well)
Likely canon wouldn't happen.
Remember that Carlisle called ahead to ask Billy, the tribe elder, if it was cool with them coming back. Billy, scared shitless, didn't think he had the option of saying no and said "uh treaty still stands" while screaming "FUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK" internally.
At the time in canon, there were no wolves, as Sam only shifted after the Cullens showed up.
Had Billy and Harry both shifted, I imagine Billy might have felt more confident in saying "no" even if it came to a fight. However, Carlisle not realizing he terrified these people, would have then agreed and not returned to Forks.
Canon doesn't happen.
If you meant within the story depends.
The big change is that Harry might not have his heart attack. If he doesn't, and there's no funeral, then Jacob doesn't tell Edward that Charlie's "At the funeral" where Edward then assumes Bella is dead. Depending how things go, Edward may realize Bella's alive and think Rosalie was lying to him and thus not go to Volterra and thus not return quite as soon as he did in canon.
That's about it though as otherwise they're just more wolves.

Collision | Chapter 24
Word Count: 3.2K Warnings: death
Story Description: (Y/N) Uley is back home after being away for four years. Her life is at its first standstill and she is taking this time to find out who she is without school. But she never thought that coming back to the reservation would turn her whole life around. In the midst of secrets and mystery, a man crashes into (Y/N)’s and her life will never be the same.
A/N: slowly but surely finishing up some WIP chapters for every story and a couple of oneshots and requests 😊
<- Previous | Next ->
The last place (Y/N) wanted to be in was a funeral. Especially when guilt clung to her like a dark cloud. It didn’t matter how many people told her it wasn’t her fault or that there was nothing more she could have done. She couldn’t help it.
Harry’s heart had taken its last beat under her hands, it had stopped while she was the one caring for him. And even if it had flatlined, she felt like there was more she could have done. Maybe if she had kept going, he would have magically come back. Stranger things than that had happened. To her, it didn’t matter if he’d had heart problems or that the pressure on the organ had been too much for recovery. She simply felt there was something else she could do. Anything else.
Clad in a dark dress, (Y/N) made her way to the Clearwater house. But once there, she could not make it past the first step. Tears flooded her eyes as she stared at the front door, the murmurs from the inside rushing to her ears. How could she face them? How could she face all the people who loved Harry and tell them there may have been more to do?
“(Y/N)?” a voice broke her out of her trance. The girl turned to find a worried Paul walking toward her, and fight or not, she found herself crashing into his arms. They fell to the ground as he cradled her in his arms, allowing her to crumble. “Hey, you’re okay. You’re okay.”
“It’s my fault, Paul,” she cried. “It’s my fault he’s gone.”
“It is absolutely not your fault, (Y/N),” he whispered. “You did all you could. Sam told us how hard you fought to keep him alive. There was nothing else you could do, (Y/N). It was just his time.”
“No. I could have saved him,” she continued. “I should have saved him.”
“He was a man with pre-existing heart conditions that had the scare of a lifetime, (Y/N). There was no way he would have survived this. There was nothing more to do,” he said. “Unburden yourself of his death because it was not, and never will be your fault.”
With teary eyes, (Y/N) finally allowed herself to look up at her friend, feeling her chest lighten at his words. Even if the knot was still there, she could feel herself growing used to the feeling, and others started to come to the surface. “I thought you were mad at me,” she sniffled, sitting on the ground as her breathing steadied. “Why are you here comforting me?”
“Just because I’m mad at you doesn’t mean I’d walk past you when you’re crying,” he said, sitting next to her. “You’re still my best friend, (Y/N).”
“So, does that mean you’re still mad at me?”
“Not as much as before,” he teasingly shrugged, shoving her softly. “I will admit, in the time that we’ve been apart, I’ve had a chance to think about my actions, and I have to say I may have overreacted a little bit. I knew you didn’t feel the same way I did, but I still let myself think that we’d one day be more. Then I got mad at you when you didn’t act the way I thought you should. I got my feelings hurt and I took it out on you. I’m sorry for that, (Y/N).”
“Well, if we’re airing out our grievances, I should apologize for using you like I did,” she admitted. “I knew how you felt about me, and I still asked you to do something almost impossible. I should never have asked you to get involved with my moving on in the way I did. You didn’t deserve that, and I’m sorry.”
“I’m the one that said yes, (Y/N). I knew what I was getting into, and I still said yes,” he refuted. “I had every chance to say no, but I chose to stay. So, I’m sorry.”
“No, Paul. If I hadn’t…”
“Look, we’re not gonna spend the rest of the morning saying sorry back and forth, (Y/N),” he chuckled. “Let’s just agree we both fucked up and go back to being friends. I’ve missed you for far too long.”
“I’ve missed you too, Paul,” she sniffled once more. “I have so much to tell you.”
“Let’s get through this first, okay? Then we have all the time in the world to catch up.”
“Sounds like a plan.”
With Paul by her side, the funeral was easier to bear. Though the pitiful stares and the sorrys were getting to her, having her best friend helped appease her guilt and her sadness. She was able to face the heartbroken Clearwater family and offer them condolences, embracing a terrified Seth and a heartbroken and detached Leah. There were no words she could tell them that could make the moment better. No amount of condolences or blessings would assuage the pain of losing their father in such a tragic way. And telling them she felt guilty about his passing would never compare to the guilt she was sure his daughter already felt.
Leah’s face was stoic, plastered with anger and despair. But (Y/N) knew what she was hiding. She could sense the girl’s self-reproach; it was the same she was feeling. To her, it was unmistakable. That hidden darkness in her eyes, the staggering in her breath, the closed-off posture. The Uley girl knew the signs all too well. They had been etched into her skin like an infected tattoo for years, making her skin itch and swell, but nevertheless remaining, staining. A mark that she would carry for the rest of her life. And now, so would poor Leah.
(Y/N) wanted to show her support in any way she could, but she knew her words did not mean anything yet. The last thing the girl needed was to hear from the sister of the guy who had broken her heart. No. What she needed for the moment was space—time to grieve and process the trauma she had just gone through.
So, instead of badgering the girl with empty words and sentiments like most people were doing, she let her be.
“Hey, (Y/N),” Seth startled her as he sat down beside her on the front porch. “Sorry. I just wanted to thank you for what you did for my dad. Mom told us how hard you tried to save him.”
“You don’t have to thank me, Seth,” she smiled sadly. “I was simply doing my job.”
“I know it was more than that,” he chuckled softly. “He cared about you, you know? He always knew you’d be going far, and he was right. A doctor at only 19? I’d say that’s pretty far. I mean, I’m only fifteen and the most impressive thing I’ve done is become a wolf, and I didn’t even do it on purpose.”
“Well, I’m still a student,” she said, but noting his annoyance, she chuckled. “But I get what you’re saying. I cared about him a lot too. I just wish I hadn’t been so busy these few months and got to spend more time with him. He always treated Sam and me with so much love and kindness, I can’t help but regret not giving as much as I received from him.”
“Nah, he knew how much you loved him,” Seth shrugged. “Honestly, we almost made you a forbidden name in our house because of how much he talked about you. When Leah got angry and would bring up that you hadn’t been in the rez for years, he always shut her down and told us you were putting us on the map. The more time you spent away, the prouder he was. I’m sure he knows how hard you fought for him and how much you loved him.”
“You’re too smart, kid,” (Y/N) hid a sniffle with a chuckle as she messed with his hair. “But don’t worry about me. How are you?”
“Honestly, I think I’m still in shock,” he sighed. “I woke up today hoping to find him on his chair, reading the newspaper, just waiting to talk to us about being wolves. Instead, I woke up to people rearranging the living room to fit his casket for the showing. It’s weird and confusing, and I think it hasn’t hit me quite yet. But, honestly, it’s Leah that I’m most worried about. She’s taking it really hard.”
“That’s to be expected, unfortunately. It was no easy thing what she went through—what you both went through,” the girl said. “It’s gonna take some time for her to feel normal again. At least a new version of normal. She’s gonna need us all, even if she thinks she wants to push us away.”
“I just wish she knew it wasn’t her fault. That no one blames her for what happened.”
“It’s gonna take some time, kid,” (Y/N) said as she hugged his side. “But we’ll be here. Every step of the way.”
Three hours felt like an eternity as the veil of grief draped itself over the Clearwater house. Even as they celebrated the life of Harry, the sadness was inevitable in the moment. It clung to the walls, to the floor, the very air they breathed. It was everywhere they went, even if no one had invited it in. Three hours was far too long for (Y/N). Three hours had been enough for her.
With a final walk around of condolences and sad smiles, (Y/N) decided she had reached her grief limit. As much as she wanted to spend more time with the family, she needed to be able to breathe. If she stayed any longer in that house, she was afraid she’d never be okay again.
But her day did not end once she left the funeral. She had promised Bella she would see her right after, and a part of her regretted agreeing to go all the way to Forks. There was nothing she could think of that could warrant Bella’s insistence that she visit her. (Y/N) knew it couldn’t be about Victoria because Jacob wouldn’t have left the girl’s side for a second. It couldn’t have been about Harry since she hadn’t gone to the funeral. The only thing that she could imagine was impossible and downright infuriating.
And yet, as she rounded the corner to Bella’s street, a car made her breath hitch in her throat. The black Mercedes was unmistakable, and just the sight of it made the girl’s heart hammer against her chest. Not only was it surprising that it was there, but that it was the first time she had heard about it.
Mixed feelings rushed through (Y/N)’s body as she got closer to the house. Just the idea of seeing him unnerved her. But she couldn’t quiet the part of her that hoped it was him behind the door, waiting, expecting her. She couldn’t stop the thought that he had come back for her, to tell her that he had made the biggest mistake of his life by letting her go. Still, that wasn’t the part that was winning in her mind.
Anger quickly surged to the top as she made her way to the front door. Words of ire and disappointment rapidly formed on her tongue, ready to be spat the second she saw golden eyes staring back at her. Because he shouldn’t have been there. He had no right.
“Bells?” (Y/N) called out, finding the door unlocked. “I’m here.”
Suddenly, a face she had seen one too many times appeared, worry splattered across her face like a stain. It wasn’t the one she was expecting, but it was a surprise, nonetheless.
Before she could say anything, Alice Cullen had her arms around (Y/N) as though no time had passed. It was borderline the softest touch and a bone-crushing hug all at the same time. There was only love and happiness coming from the vampire. But it was something (Y/N) couldn’t reciprocate.
“Alice,” she found herself whispering. Her voice came out in a hush, a tone so low only the supernatural would be able to hear it. “W-what’s going on? Why are you here?”
“Well, I thought Bella had died,” she said. “I had this vision that after the whole cliff diving fiasco, she didn’t make it out of the water. It wasn’t until I got here that I found out a wolf had saved her.”
“And you couldn’t have called?” (Y/N) asked, sounding colder than she intended. “One phone call could have cleared everything up.”
“I wasn’t really thinking,” Alice continued. “And then Rose told Edward what happened before I could confirm anything, and now he’s about to commit the dumbest mistake of his life.”
“Again, a phone call would work.”
“Oh, you know Edward won’t believe me until he sets eyes on her,” the girl dismissed, pa omg as her head raced with thought, oblivious to (Y/N)’s coldness. “Regardless, he’s not picking up his phone. Goodness, first, Carlisle goes missing as soon as we’re out of Forks, and now Edward wants to get killed. What is happening to this family?”
(Y/N) couldn’t hear anything after the mention of Carlisle’s name. I’m her head, he was thriving in life being a big shot head doctor at some other hospital, he was with his family being the mysterious Cullens somewhere else. But Alice had said he had disappeared. Over half a year had passed, and none of them had heard from their father figure. Not even Alice’s visions had seemed to help the situation.
“W-what do you mean Carlisle is missing?” (Y/N)’s voice broke Alice’s incessant rambling. “I thought he was with you.”
“Oh, no, (Y/N),” she brought her hands to her mouth. “I shouldn’t have said that. I didn’t…”
“How could he just disappear, Alice? Where could he have gone to that none of you know where he is?”
“I don’t…”
“Oh, (Y/N)!” Bella called out as she rushed down her stairs, a backpack hanging from her shoulder. “I’m sorry, but we have to cut this visit short. I don’t know if Alice told you…”
“No,” she spat. “Alice hasn’t said much of anything. At least not anything of much importance.”
“What do you mean?”
“Well, not only do I come here to find Alice after over six months of radio silence, but now I find out that no one in the family knows where Carlisle has gone.” His name rolling out of her tongue felt bittersweet. It made her heart flutter with the intensity of the bat of a million butterfly wings, but it made her stomach churn as though she’d been stuck at sea for too much time. It was refuge and terror all wrapped up in a beautiful word. “But I guess what interests you more is the fact that Edward thinks you’re dead.”
“I didn’t…,” Bella stammered before turning to the vampire. “You didn’t say Carlisle was missing. All you said was that it wasn’t him on the phone. Carlisle’s missing?”
“Look, I’m sorry. But he’s the least of my worries right now,” Alice exhaled. “Esme has been looking for him and has some good leads. Right now, I care about the fact that Edward is going to get himself killed by the Volturi in Italy. I wish this could have been a beautiful reunion, but it is what it is.”
“Bella, you know you don’t have to do this, right?” (Y/N) blurted. “You are not under the obligation of saving him after what he did to you.”
“I know,” the girl sighed. “But I couldn’t live with myself if I didn’t at least try to help him live. As much as he hurt me, the love I have for him is far greater than our past. Wouldn’t you do the same for Carlisle?”
It should have been an easy answer. Yes. If it meant that Carlisle was alive and well, of course, she would have jumped on a plane and traveled around the world to save him. Yes. Three letters. One confirmation. That should have been easy to say.
But a voice inside her yelled no. As much as she loved and yearned for him, (Y/N) couldn’t say yes. Not when he had ripped her heart to shreds purposefully. Not when he had said things he’d never be able to take back. She should have said no. Just no.
“I don’t know,” she said instead. “Maybe I’m not as strong as you.”
“No,” Bella smiled softly, taking (Y/N)’s hands in hers. “You’re stronger.”
“Just be careful out there, Bells. Even if they don’t return, come home.”
“I promise,” she said. “And I’m sure Carlisle is okay. Esme will find him soon enough.”
“He can take care of himself. I’m more worried about you,” (Y/N) said, squeezing Bella’s hands comfortingly before turning to Alice. “You better make sure nothing happens to her. Leaving us is one thing. But if anything else happens to Bella under your watch, that’s gonna be unforgivable.”
“She’ll be safe, I promise,” the vampire peeped, a shake in her voice that almost sounded like she was terrified. “I won’t let anything happen to her.”
Turning back around, (Y/N) continued. “Be safe, Bella,” she said as she took the girl in for a tight hug. “And I’ll make sure your dad is safe and doesn’t get too angry about your impromptu trip.”
“Thank you, (Y/N),” she chuckled softly. “Whatever happens, we’ll always have the Cullen Discard Club.”
“Best club to be in,” (Y/N) laughed. “Now, go. And be safe.”
(Y/N) wanted to stop Bella. Shake the girl until she finally saw reason. But she couldn’t lie, she understood. As she watched the black car disappear down the road, she couldn’t help the worry that overtook her body as she thought back to Carlisle. She couldn’t help but wonder where he had gone to hide, if he was safe, if he had fed.
It took everything in her to close the Swan door behind her and go back to her home. There was nothing she could do for him anymore, that much she knew. But there was an itch inside her that begged to find him, that called on her to make sure he was okay. It was the same voice she shared with Bella. The love you could only have for someone that had infected your soul.
When she got back, her house was quiet, and it was just what she needed—silence. It allowed her to just be, to just feel—no judgment or anger—just silence. It was so quiet that as she removed her coat, a piece of paper fell from the pocket and clattered softly against the ground.
With genuine interest, (Y/N) picked it up and wondered how it had gotten there until she read it.
This is Esme’s number. Just in case you wanted it.
I truly am sorry for everything.
-Alice
(Y/N) didn’t know when the vampire had written the letter—not that, with her speed, she would have ever noticed—but a small part of her was grateful for it.
That night, she went to bed staring at the piece of paper, wondering what she would do with it. She could have picked it up and called Esme, gathered as much information as she could to help in her search, joined her in New York, and turned it upside down until they could find him. Then again, she could have done absolutely nothing at all.

Carlisle Vs. Lord
Warnings: None
Copyright: I do not own any Twilight characters or locations. I do own Davina Mikelson and Marcel. I also own the backstory for my OC. I do not condone any copying of this.
Davina P.O.V.
I was in Emily's kitchen when Jacob's motorcycle pulled up, carrying Bella on the back of it. I was slightly surprised as Edward never let Bella come down here, despite the fact that I was here all of the time.
The boys- realizing Bella was here- got up from the table, going out the doors to greet her and I followed slightly behind. Leah glared after them.
"Hey look who's back!" Embry called.
"What's up Bella?" Quil asked.
"Quil? You, too?" Bella asked in surprise.
"Yep." Quil said. "Finally made the pack."
He was built slightly different than the others who all had short, straight, cropped hair. His was just slightly longer, and curly.
"I'm glad you're here Bella." Embry said sincerely. "Maybe we can get a break from Jake's obsessive inner monologue."
"I wish Bella would call." Paul teased.
"I wish Bella wouldn't call." Jared said, eating a chicken leg.
"Maybe I should call Bella." Embry teased.
"Maybe I should call Bella and hang up." Quil added.
They all cackled like. . . well. . . wolves.
I snickered.
"All right, you can shut up now." Jacob said.
That's when Leah stepped out of the house, standing on the other side of Quil, giving Bella an unfriendly look. I shot her a warning one which she completely ignored.
Bella, upon seeing her, spoke to her first with sympathy, "Hey. I'm really sorry about your father."
I licked my lips uncertainly, moving past the boys and then past Jacob and Bella.
"If you're here to torture Jacob some more, feel free to leave." Leah said in a harsh voice.
I looked off to the side, tucking my bottom lip under, trying not to breathe in to deeply because that made my rib hurt.
Leah stormed past Jacob and Bella too.
I sighed, moving to follow her.
I heard Emily's voice behind me as I moved closer to Leah, "Lea-"
"Don't care, don't want to hear it." Leah said.
"I was just going to say you can leave if you don't want to stay." I murmured.
Leah stood there for a moment. "Why you?"
"What?" I questioned.
Leah gritted her jaw upon hearing Sam's voice. Both Leah and I looked over our shoulders and saw Sam was looking directly at Leah.
Leah huffed, turning back around and turned into a wolf.
"Leah." I whispered and then she was gone, bounding away.
I thought about letting her go, but I knew if this was Jared or Embry or Seth, I would go after my son. So I started to run after her. I couldn't keep up, of course, but I could follow her prints deep into the forest until I found her, sitting naked on one of the logs.
She looked up, "Didn't think you'd follow me."
"I always come after my kids." I whispered, shrugging off my oversized jacket, holding it out to her. "Whether or not they want me to. Especially when they're upset."
"Is that why you haven't changed?" Leah murmured, taking the jacket from me.
I looked patiently at her, sitting next to her, but leaving her some room too.
Leah sighed, shrugging on the jacket. "It's just. . . what's wrong with me?"
I was surprised, "What do you mean? There's nothing wrong with you."
Leah snorted, "I'm the only girl out of a group of boys who changes into wolves. You have the gene, and you even have one of the more powerful genes and you haven't turned! Which means there is something wrong with me! Is it because. . . because you're more feminine than me?"
I snorted, "Leah, I grew up a military brat with men around me constantly. I doubt I'm more feminine than you."
"But they look to you as a mom. You are their mom. They don't even look to Emily like that."
"Well, mostly because they see Sam as a brother which makes Emily a sister. You're their sister too, you know." I said, nudging her shoulder slightly.
"Do you think I can even imprint? Or is my gene a dead one?"
I shook my head. "Does it matter?"
"Yes. I want to have kids. I don't want to be a genetic dead end." Leah whispered.
Oh.
"I know what you mean." I whispered.
"Do you?" Leah asked, raising a skeptical eyebrow.
I was silent for a moment. "In a way, though not to the full extent. It's just that. . . my mate is a vampire. Which means whether I stay human or not, I will never be able to have children with him. I suppose I could surrogate or something, but I don't know. There's always adopting I suppose but neither option feels the same. I feel like it should be mine and Carlisle's child. . . and we can't. It's just not possible. And I can't love someone else Leah. It's like. . . werewolves have their imprinting and vampires have their soulmates. When Carlisle left, trying to protect me, I fell ill. I couldn't. . . I guess what I'm trying to say is I can understand your pain."
"You want to have kids?" Leah asked quietly.
I laughed a little, "Don't get me wrong. I love you and I love my wolf boys and my vampire boys and daughters. But having a child of my own. . . having a child of my flesh and blood. . .that would be nice. And I always wanted a large family, the way that I feel with you guys or with the Cullens. . . large families are nice. Four kids, maybe even six. . . but it won't happen. Not without adopting and. . . well I don't want my kids to have to be subjugated to the vampire life if they don't want to be. And if they grow up vampires, the Volturi will find out and they'll be forced to. Like Bella and I. But even so. . . when the bombs went off, there was a lot of damage to my body. I was told I couldn't get pregnant anyways. And, well, if I do get pregnant, it'll apparently be very difficult and my body might not make it."
"Bella wants to be." Leah scoffed.
I nodded, "I do too. . . but not until I turned thirty. I wanted to be close to Carlisle's age."
"When will they make you?"
"Till I'm twenty-five of a few years after that."
Leah inhaled, "That's very. . . you're what? Twenty-one now?"
I nodded. "Yes. I turn twenty-two come this April 7th which is next week."
"You don't have long left." Leah pointed out sadly.
"Yeah, I know." I murmured.
"What do you think you'll miss most?" Leah asked.
"The Rez. You guys." I answered immediately. "I won't be able to see you guys for a long, long time. And even then. . . it'll be as acquaintances. I would never hurt any of you if the treaty was broken, if we had to fight. But it'll be your duty to kill me. And I would let you guys."
I stared deeply into her eyes with sincerity. "Though, I would try and get you guys to spare Carlisle and my other children. And my sister. But we'll leave. I think we're going to Alaska. Hunt Polar bears and penguins."
Leah snorted, "Penguins."
I chuckled, "Maybe I'll just stick with the polar bears."
"We'll miss you." Leah whispered and I was surprised to hear her say that and I looked at her with a small smile. Leah stared back at me and added, "Mom."
I full out grinned and then stood up, "I have to get home. I have a huge anatomy test I'm supposed to take and it's due tonight." I laughed lightly. "But I'll come back tomorrow and we can hang out."
Leah nodded, "Yeah, that sounds nice."
I smiled and then waved good-bye. Upon getting home, I did the anatomy test and then crawled into bed, collapsing with exhaustion.
Carlisle P.O.V.
Our family met in the living room of the house. Emmett and Jasper had just come in. "Who is it? Someone we know?" I asked quickly.
Edward had brought Bella to our house, alerting us that someone had broken into her house. It was a vampire, according to the scent. Rosalie and Esme sat to the side near the fireplace we never lit. I was standing in front of the couch. Edward stood across from me, Alice and Bella sitting next to each other on the couch. I certainly wished Davina was here so I could hold her.
"This stranger, I didn't recognize his scent." Edward said.
"A nomad passing through?" Esme asked curiously.
"A passerby wouldn't have left Bella's dad alive." Rosalie pointed out and out of the corner of my eye, I saw Bella shudder delicately.
"The scent disappeared about 5 miles south of Bella's house." Jasper said as he walked into the room.
"Someone's orchestrating this." I said with a sigh, my hands deep in my pockets.
"Victoria?" Bella asked.
Alice shook her head and said, "I would have seen her decide."
"Has to be the Volturi." Edward said.
"I don't think it's the Volturi either." Alice argued. "I've been watching Aro's decisions too."
"So we keep looking." I said. "We'll also take shifts guarding Bella's house."
"Another protection detail?" Rosalie asked in disgust.
"You'd do it for Mama's house." Jasper pointed out.
Edward stiffened, "Where is Mom?"
"Oh she was at La Push today." Bella said. "She was hanging out with Leah when I left with Jake to go back to his house."
I pulled out my phone, dialing Sam which I was only supposed to be dialing for emergencies.
"Dr. Cullen?" Sam asked in icy politeness.
"Is Davina there?" I asked.
Sam paused for a moment and then said, "No. She left hours ago. Said she had an anatomy test she need-"
I hung up on him, dashing from the house, full out sprinting towards Davina's house. As I got closer, I could smell the vampires' scent and I sped up. I leapt up towards the window to her bedroom, slipping through, and landing in the small, circular room.
The vampires' scent was heavy in here, and definitely male. It made Lord rage in a fit of anger. I sped to Davina's side, yanking the covers back. There were no bite marks, her heart rate was normal, her breathing was normal, everything was normal. Except for the overwhelming scent around her that wasn't mine.
As the cold air hit her skin, she muttered, rolling over, sending a fresh wave of the scent towards me. I couldn't smell her, I couldn't smell the werewolves, I couldn't even smell me and it made me angry to say the least.
Davina blinked open her eyes, jumping back slightly at my close appearance, and then tilted her head, "Lord?"
Davina P.O.V.
I stared up into the pitch black eyes of Lord. I sat up slowly, trying to figure out if I'm awake or sleeping. I wasn't entirely sure. "Lord? Are you. . . alright?"
"No." Lord growled, reaching out and taking my face in his cold hands. He was seething angry and I racked my brain, trying to figure out what I had done.
"Umm, I'm sorry? I don't-"
Lord pressed his lips hard against mine, wrapping his arms around me tightly. "You're mine."
The words, in that tone, with these heightened emotions, made my blood light on fire.
"Oh!" I gasped softly as he pushed me back harshly- yet carefully- into my bed. I suddenly wished, as he climbed over me, that the bed was larger.
He pressed his lips to my jaw, kissing and sucking at my skin, sure to leave bruises. I clenched his hair tightly in my hands, keeping him close. He moved his mouth down my neck, sucking, biting, and licking and when he found my sweet spot I moaned out loud and then flushed in embarrassment. We hadn't even gotten to the good part yet and I was already moaning.
I felt Lord's mouth curve into a smirk against the warmth of my neck. He then continued to lick, bite, and abuse the particular spot, making me a moaning, writhing mess on the bed. Also an embarrassed one. My sexual romantic occurrences were very limited to kisses- that was it. I had no idea you could feel this aroused just by someone biting and sucking your neck.
"L-Lord th-"
Lord brought his mouth back up to mine, cutting off my words before pulling away, his fingers trailing down my body to the hem of my shirt, "May I?"
I looked up at him, dazed, "Um- C-Carlisle wanted to w-wait."
Lord rolled his eyes, "Carlisle always wants to wait. I don't. Do you?"
I hesitated, thinking about what Carlisle wanted, what I wanted, and what Lord wanted.
"Maybe a little further." I admitted, pulling Lord back down for a kiss.
Lord lifted the shirt over my head, eyeing the bra like it was his enemy. And then, the bedroom door slammed open.
Lord jumped from the bed, looking like he was flying through the air while I sat up quickly, blood rushing to my head, wrapping the comforter around me.
"S-Sam?" I choked out in surprise, "What are you doing here?"
"There's an intruder vampire scent all around your house Davina." Sam gasped, "It's heavily condensed in this room, although. . ." He looked at Lord whose eyes were flickering quickly between black and gold. He was fighting without himself. ". . . Carlisle's scent has become a little more prominent. You don't smell like yourself anymore though."
"Wait! The intruder vampire touched me!" I freaked, looking between Carlisle and Sam. Carlisle groaned, having completely recovered from Lord's take over.
"Yes." He groaned, rubbing his temples. I wondered if Vampires could get headaches. "That's why Lord-"
"Whose Lord?" Sam asked.
"Carlisle's alter ego." I said, reaching over the side of the bed to grab my T-shirt, putting it back on and getting out of bed, stretching. "When he gets possessive or jealous or protective Lord usually comes out."
Sam raised an eyebrow, looking around the room. "I see."
"Where did this intruder vampire come from?" I questioned, hugging my arms around my body tightly.
Carlisle shook his head, leaning against the windowsill, trying to give Sam room. "We aren't sure. Edward thinks maybe the Volturi sent someone to see if you and Bella were still human. Emmett thinks Victoria sent someone. Alice says its' neither because she didn't see Aro or Victoria in any of her visions."
I sighed, rubbing my own temples before a headache could form. "Wonderful. Alright then. I'm going to lean more towards Victoria. I blatantly told Aro I wasn't turning until I was twenty-five and unless they think four years has passed since the last time I saw them- then they know I'm not one yet."
"Yet." Sam scoffed angrily.
I sighed. "Although, if it was Victoria, I don't know why they didn't just take me to wherever she is. It's not like there was anyone in the house to stop them and I was fast asleep."
"I don't know and I don't like it." Carlisle muttered, "Whoever this was marked their scent all over you which means they could come back for you."
"You could move in to Harry's house again." Sam said. "Sue, Leah, and Seth all know about the vampires now so it would be much easier to tell them the truth about it this time."
"Or you could just move in with us." Carlisle said, shooting daggers at Sam, his eyes flickering from gold to black and then back to gold again.
I sighed, running a hand through my messy curls. "I- I'll think about it."
My phone rang and I saw that it was Marcel. "I need to take this in private. Both of you- scat."
They both grumbled. Carlisle exited out the window, Sam went out through the front door. I waited a moment or two before I picked up the phone. "Marcel- did you get what I needed?"

oh bill, i love you so...
Billy Black and Sarah Wilde get engaged. on ao3 here.
1984.
La Push, Washington.
The trip had been shit, the entire last three months of fishing had been shit. Not a single catch was worth the amount he spent on diesel. This time Billy would be lucky to get two hundred bucks for a week worth of work. He was halfway to Mexico — off the recommendation of Harry Clearwater who had caught enough bluefin to pay his rent for the rest of the year — when the engine started to click…again. Last time that had cost him almost a grand in parts and almost a month in a dry dock.
At this point he would be better off sinking the thing, taking the insurance payout, and working at the gas station for the rest of his life. He had missed last month’s insurance payment. It was between that and the slip fee. There went another one of his plans.
The boat pulled into its slip, the clicking louder and louder, like a time bomb, until he cut the engine. Then it was hauntingly silent.
Anxious to get to shore before the entire thing exploded, Sarah wouldn’t get his life insurance anymore, he tied the knots quickly, looser than he should have. Maybe he’d get lucky and it would drift out to sea, he’d have no other option than to work at the quick fill or maybe he’d get a job at the bait shop telling hobbyists what lure to use when he couldn’t manage to catch anything himself.
He threw the nearly empty cooler onto the dock, a week of exhaustion meant the cooler flew right over the dock and into the harbor, his spoils spilling into the sea. The gulls which had followed him in from a mile out, anxious to get spoiled bait descended on the gourmet feast. He cursed under his breath, watching two pelicans fight over a halibut larger than both of them combined. He threw his laundry bag onto the dock, which landed perfectly dry, because of course it did.
After he locked the boat up, although there was nothing to steal he didn’t need to find a sea lion in his bed, he jumped onto the dock himself. He landed wrong, not in the water, but his ankle rolled under him. Another expletive as he analyzed the sprained ankle.
He needed a drink. He needed a stiff drink. Hell, he’d take the bottle.
Sarah hated alcohol, so he rarely drank, but she wasn’t here. She was almost four hours away, ignoring his proposal.
When she got the almost full ride to the University of Washington there was no question she had to take it. She had offered to stay, to go to Pensiula instead, they would be able to see each other more often. He wouldn’t hear it. At that point, they had been dating for almost five years. They had started as two dumb middle schoolers who didn’t know a thing about love and then in the blink of an eye his grandmother was giving him the family ring and Mr. Wilde was asking when he was going to get serious.
He let her go without asking, he figured it would be easier that way, and it was until it wasn’t.
She had less than a year left, it might as well have been a death sentence for him. They hadn’t seen each other in months.
He couldn’t pinpoint the exact moment he decided to send her the ring, instead of waiting until they saw each other next. All he knew was two weeks ago he had driven down to the post office in Forks, wrapped the ring box in three dollars worth of bubble wrap, stuffed the package in a far too expensive cardboard box, tucked a simple note inside, and paid for overnight shipping for the first and only time in his life.
He waited by the harbormaster’s phone for three days, waiting for an answer to a question he had asked in a hundred unspoken ways. His boat bore her name, a deteriorating friendship bracelet that had never left his wrist since she had made it many summers ago, he spent every Saturday evening eating dinner with her family. It was a question he had waited to ask until he couldn’t anymore.
It was a question she had yet to answer. They had spoken on the phone twice since he sent the ring. On the first call, she hadn’t gotten the box yet, on the second call she had just picked up her mail but had yet to open the box but she promised she would as soon as she could.
They hadn’t spoken since. She had left a voicemail that she had gotten full credit on all her finals and she was excited to finally have a weekend off, she was doing something he didn’t quite catch with her friends. No mention of the ring.
He slung his laundry bag over his shoulder and fished his cooler out of the empty slip next door. A gull lunged at his hand, a half-eaten mackerel still hanging out of its mouth. He averted the attack and started to wheel his cooler down the gangway.
Someone in the parking lot was blaring their radio, some kids who should have been in school. He was barely twenty. Two years removed from being one of those rowdy teenagers ditching last period to linger around the harbor and he was already a cynic. They had warned him the sea would turn him cold, would take everything he ever loved until it swallowed him too, but he hadn’t listened.
A car horn honked. He didn’t look up. The kid probably bumped it, clamoring into the backseat doing something they shouldn’t. Billy had found himself in that situation before. Never in broad daylight, he’d been smarter than that. Well, Sarah had been smarter than that.
The horn blared again, longer much more intentionally this time.
“William Black Junior!” His head shot up. No one used his full name…except one person.
Sarah Wilde was leaning against the hood of her car, doors open, radio blaring. Much too far away for his liking.
“What are yo-”
“Listen to the song,” she shouted across the harbor.
He stopped, dropping the cooler by his feet. It was an old song, he’d heard it before, years ago, probably on one of his mother’s cleaning records. He didn’t know the song well enough to understand why Sarah had shown up unannounced simply to play him the song.
“ I was on your side Bill when you were losin'
When you were losin’”
He was certainly losin’ at the moment. He opened his mouth to speak again, and Sarah simply held out her hand to quiet him.
‘I'd never scheme or lie Bill there's been no fooling
There's been no fooling
But kisses and love won't carry me.’
Sarah was now holding a small box in her hand. Was it the same box he had spent a small fortune shipping to her? No. It couldn’t —
“'Til you marry me, Bill
I love you so I always will.”
Waves were crashing against the jetty behind him, threatening to drown out the song.
She opened the lid of his grandmother’s ring box, picked out the small heirloom ring, and slipped it on her left ring finger. The whole time singing along to the woman on the radio lamenting about her own Bill.
“Yes?” Billy stammered.
“You thought I’d say no?” She yelled over the gulls and radio.
“It took you two weeks to respond!” He shouted back.
“You sent me a ring in the mail. Who does that?”
“How else was I supposed to get it to you?”
“Just kiss her already!” An old man shouted from the dock across the way.
Sarah laughed, leaning into her car to turn down the radio as the song ended. Billy smiled to himself, picking up his empty cooler and full laundry bag and starting down the creaky gangway.
The short walk felt like a marathon.
He unlocked the harbor gate and was promptly greeted by arms latching around his neck. He dropped his cooler again but caught something, someone, much better.
The two broke the kiss when they were interrupted by cheering. From the docks, the nosy fishermen who had pestered him about settling down clapped, he could hear a few jokes about the big mistake Sarah had just made. He was too happy to care. From the small fish and chip stand by the shore came a roar of applause, from some of their best friends: Harry Clearwater, the head cook of said fish and chip shop, Sue Uley, and Billy’s best friend since third grade, Charlie Swan, who had been the first person Sarah called and the only person’s blessing she asked or cared for.
“You reek,” Sarah smiled, hands clutched on the lapels of Billy’s jacket.
“That’s me?” Billy asked, feigning innocence. He smelled like a bait box.
She laughed, a laugh he had missed more than land.
“You’re not quitting school,” he said, thumb brushing over her hand, settling atop the diamond.
“Can you stop worrying for one minute?” She grinned, leaning closer for another kiss. He happily obliged.
“Hey,” Harry shouted. “I have world-famous fish fry in here, come on!”
Billy looked up.
“It’s on the house,” Harry laughed.
“Alright then,” Billy smiled, slinging his arm around Sarah’s shoulders as they made their way across the parking lot.
They ate dinner happy as could be, and for the first time in his life, without a worry in the world.
----
2000.
Somewhere in the Olympic Peninsula, Washington.
The Clearwaters had the children for the night. Sue had insisted he needed a night to himself. The last thing he wanted was to be alone. But, the one thing he wanted more than anything a month after he had received the call which stopped his heart was to break down. He refused to do this in front of anyone, let alone his children and so he found himself driving down the 101 at three in the morning.
That’s how he found himself driving down the 101 at three in the morning, sobbing. He had refused to get in a car for a week after the accident. But La Push was too small. Every single inch a reminder of her. Every street one she had been on. Every person, someone she had known, who looked at him with pity.
He needed out. He drove all the way to Astoria, without truly realizing it. He needed to make it back before school drop-off. He was in Quinualt, less than an hour from hom– the house, when the song came on the radio.
The truck swerved off the road and into the ditch as The 5th Dimension sang, ‘ I look at you and see the passion eyes of May .’
At some point, he managed to get out of the truck, hike down to the roadside phone, and call Charlie Swan. It was blurry.
An hour later a police cruiser, lights on, came to a screeching halt on the side of the highway.
It took Harry and Charlie till sunrise to pull the truck out of the ditch. Billy sat on the side of the road as they worked, working through a six-pack of Ballantines Charlie had brought. His first drink in fourteen years.
Charlie drove him home, without a question, Harry following in the now dented truck. They made it home in time for Billy to walk his kids to school when nothing else Billy Black was a man of his word.
