Bryan Cranston will literally always be the dad from Malcolm in the Middle to me first and foremost, like Dennis wasn’t lying, Malcolm in the Middle changed the game, especially as a template for an anti sitcom about imperfect, messy, at times unlikable but still empathetic characters who don’t always have things work out for them in the end, and you can definitely see how it may have influenced the direction of Sunny itself in that regard. Hal is a fantastic, iconic character, and comedy is not a lesser form than drama, comedy is not a lesser form than drama!

i just wrote a poem about my dad 😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫 anyway tell me some of your thoughts <3333

HIIIII ❣️💝🌷💞💕 i hope that poem was cathartic to write, i know exactly how you feel i think. my thoughts… where to even START!!!!! for the sake of this not getting incredibly long, i’m going to focus on a specific like paragraph or two.

so like. the seduction motif in cassius’s getting brutus to join the conspiracy is soooo. it’s crazy there are like a million ways to think about it. is it cassius deliberately manipulating him through this romantic language to make it more appealing? is it cassius just feeling that way for brutus and this is his sort of love confession and ALSO trying to get him in on the conspiracy? does brutus know about it and is actively leading cassius into telling him with his OWN romantic language? there are like a thousand ways of interpreting it and i could go on about each of them specifically but again. trying to not say a thousand things.

in this essay, dove and gamble (the authors) in their own little sort of not saying it outright are saying they think that this is cassius genuinely expressing some grief over his and brutus’s relationship not being what it used to be (don’t listen to them it is literally still about caesar’s giving brutus the better position even if shakespeare doesn’t mention it specifically. it’s about brutus being more in the pocket of caesar than he is intimate with cassius. that’s just what it is sorry.)

OKAY NOW THEE LINE TO ME. impugn cassius’s honor, to suspect his motives, to see in him a man shallow, fickle, irresponsible….. cassius wants him to come to the realization that he’s conspiring without him explicitly saying it. this is not cassius…. liek cassius is NOT fickle, shallow, or irresponsible, he just wants to appear that way. reasons for this are. dubious to me. perhaps it’s in a sort of jealous “if you’re going to avoid me you might as well hate me and think i’m a terrible person too, just dig the knife in further” et cetera way. since his subconscious motivation FOR killing caesar is like. a weird jealousy think (again. needs a post of its own i don’t have the time!!!) BUT i think i’d like to take a specific moment to talk about “impugn cassius’s honor” to call it into question, to say “you aren’t a respectable person, you’re some sort of depraved malcontent.” later on dove and gamble say that cassius specifically says “if i was in brutus’s shoes, i wouldn’t associate with someone as low minded as myself, i wouldn’t fall for my own seductions.” AND LIKE. AOJDJWDJ… he genuinely believes that he is so ignominious that brutus as noble as he is, shouldn’t associate with him….. also as a little addendum before i close off this section, i’d like to say that honor is something specifically tied into sex when you are talking about ancient rome. it just comes off as extremely i don’t even know. homoerotic i suppose to say “impugn someone’s honor” like why are you calling it into question? what would you know about that? ANYWAYS that’s ahgain. whole nother ball game. THATS IT. i could and WOULD elaborate on any of this btw i have a lot of thoughts all the time and would love love love someone to talk to about it <33333 anyways MWAH thank you for asking ❣️💖🌷💕
