CW! | mostly written; barely any smau content (because idk how to squeeze it in), in yn's perspective
The next morning, you find yourself standing near the station exit that you've agreed to meet Bokuto at, wearing a white puffed sleeve collared shirt and light khaki long skirt. You had a simple messy bun updo and a small black sling bag accompanying the fit. And in case the place you were visiting would get cold, you had a slightly darker shade of brown cardigan draped neatly across your arm. You hoped it wouldn't get cold though, wearing the cardigan might just ruin your fit. You couldn't find a cardigan that could perfectly fit your outfit anyway. As much as you hoped to reach on the dot today, so that your waiting time wouldn't last long, especially since you've picked out a pair of black short-heeled boots, which hit off well with your outfit but were uncomfortable to stand in. However, Yachi has rushed you out of the house before when she found out you were meeting Bokuto.
It was a Yachi thing. Always too worried about getting late, never too worried about getting overly early. After all, she always felt better early than late. Thankfully, it doesn't take long to find Bokuto walking towards you through the crowd later, waving his one arm at you as he spots you, a large small plastered across his face. "You're early yn!" He says, smiling slightly as he draws closer. Oh God, his happiness is so contagious that it makes you instinctively smile back at him, despite the discomfort you're slowly starting to feel on your foot from standing in this same position for quite a while. "Ah yeah...Better early than late right?" You respond, shooting out a quick response at the top of your head. Maybe it's time to start crafting ready-to-shoot responses towards the sentence 'you're early' so next time the response isn't as awkward. You note silently in your head. "That's true!" He exclaims, beaming slightly at you as he turns his attention towards you. "Akaashi says that often too." He seems to add after a while, cutting the momentary silence between the two of you. His words catches you off guard for a bit, making you stutter slightly as you respond with the next few words, "Uh..yeah? Akaashi?" "Oh yeah! I haven't really told you about my roommates right? Akaashi is one of my roommates! He's studying-" You cut him off abruptly, waving your arms slightly in the air as you reiterate your words. It seemed like he was about to give you a whole biography about Akaashi then...perhaps, even every single of his roommates afterwards. "No..no..You've mentioned Akaashi before in one of your texts. I was just not expecting that, you know." "Ah! My bad. Anyway, any guesses where we're going?" He asks, taking you by the wrist slightly as he leads you forward. His gentle yet firm grip catches you off guard for a bit, making you jolt slightly. However, in order to not make him feel guilty for grabbing your wrist without warning, you quickly mask your jolt into what seems like taking a sudden large step as though you're avoiding something you can't step on the pavement. "Uh...I am not sure?" You answer, a tone of uncertainty yet curiosity in your voice. You expect him to give you an proper answer for a moment, but instead he turns around and gives you a big smile while replying, "Well then I guess we're only finding out when we reach!"
You're not often that fond of surprises because it makes you unsure of how to react when you've arrived at it..but somehow the way Bokuto does it today, some part of you anticipates it partially. And you're completely convinced it's his enthusiasm and confidence.
"And here we are!" Bokuto exclaims, his words interrupting your thoughts as you stare at the bright yellow and blue building situated right in front of you. He brought me to an Ikea...
You think silently, your eyes still fixed on the building's exterior, the bright colours nearly blinding your eyes as it basks under the afternoon sun rays. "An Ikea?" You ask in small disbelief and amusement as you turn to face Bokuto slightly, meeting his bright and genuine smile. "Yeah! I wanted to bring you to an exhibition, but I wasn't sure how to architecture exhibitions worked so I figured we could go into a furniture shop instead!" He exclaims excitedly, making you smile instinctively. As much as you questioned yourself internally on how useful visiting Ikea would get you brain storming, the way he's smiling at you and excitedly chattering with you while pushing you forward into the Ikea building, makes you feel like throwing away that thought. Who knows? Ikea is known for displaying their products in a homely showroom arrangement, it might be helpful. The optimistic side of your brain chides in as your footsteps fall in line with Bokuto's to enter the building. A light cool breeze of the air conditioner tickles your cheek as soon as you take your first step through the auto sliding glass doors. It's the weekend and of course, unsurprisingly, it was bustling with crowds of people. Some of them were families, parents pushing baby strollers as they strolled side by side, or even parents who were busy chasing after their children who raced ahead of them. Though, mostly, they were couples. Couples who were interested in finding and looking at furniture. Perhaps, couples who were trying to figure out how to decorate their new apartment together. As if on instinct, you feel your gaze fall on Bokuto as soon as you realise the common main audience Ikea seemed to serve, yet the male seemed u particularly disturbed. In fact, he was bouncing with excitement. His eyes almost seemingly shooting sparks as he gazed around the place. A main part of you, or at least what you insisted, felt relieved that he didn't seem to care much about it. Yet, a small part of you felt annoyed that he didn't notice at all. Though, those feelings were almost unexplainable. "Yn, do you have a particular part of the apartment you're planning to focus on?" Bokuto's words suddenly cut through your train of thought, making you turn your head sharply towards him as you paused to ponder about his question for a while. "Well...I guess we could take a look at bedrooms mainly..." You respond finally after a short pause, your eyes scanning for the directory as you continue softly, "After all, people who live in tiny loft apartments tend to be people who spend more time outside and only come back for rest-" But before you could even finish your sentence, you feel Bokuto's warm hand wrap around yours gently, pulling you along with him as he walks ahead. "What are you waiting for then? Let's go!" He exclaims, turning around to give you a small smile as he pulls your feet that was rooted to the ground off. You quicken up your pace as you follow along with him mindlessly through the sea of people. Usually you hate crowds, it makes you overly nervous and self conscious. It was the usual practice for you to look for a directory before you started walking around a place you weren't as familiar with so that you could avoid looking like a lost tourist in your own country. Yet, just today, you feel yourself loosen up, expecting a fun time with Bokuto. Even if you could tell the both of you had no idea where y'all were headed to in this huge Ikea.
You've never seen this many bedrooms in one place before, each filled with different decorations or furniture that brought out a different aesthetic from the other. "That bed sheet style looks really funky." You point out to Bokuto as you gesture towards the bed in front of the both of you in one of the bedroom themed display rooms. It had a design which made it look like streaks of light blue paint was lathered onto the white bed sheet in a messy fashion. He simply laughs slightly at your comment, nodding slightly as he looks at the bed sheet of the bed you pointed out. For a moment, you felt odd. Not because of the way Bokuto reacted, but because of the way you reacted. You would have been annoyed at the lack of response, especially when you preferred knowing others' opinions when it came to things related to design. Yet for once, nothing like annoyance showed on your face, other than the small silly smile you had as you watched him laugh. "The shark plush is really cute though." You respond after a short pause, gazing at the simple dark blue shark plush that sat near the top of the bed. It's comfort on the bed was short lived though, as soon enough you lifted it off from the bed, holding it in your hands gently. "What would you name it as?" Bokuto asked as he looks at you for a moment, his eyes seeming to sparkle with curiosity. His gaze makes your head blank out, though you silently insist its how you weren't expecting such a question. "Um..I don't really know.." You mumble softly as you stare at the shark plush that sat in your hands for a bit, looking into its black beady eyes which reflected your small reflection. "I would name it Blahaj." Bokuto declares proudly as you gaze at him. His small proud smile doesn't slip for a bit on his lips as you tilt your head slightly, your eyes looking amused. "Where do you get that from? That sounds like a foreign language name." "I take swedish lessons." He responds back, his voice not at all hesitating as he looks at you. You wonder whether your eyes are playing tricks on you as his gaze seemed to sparkle in a way which seemed to call out to you to praise him for it. But instead of praising him immediately, your hands flip for the tag attached to the plush shark, reading the name that was on the tag. As soon as you do, a small bubble of laughter bursts from your lips as you point out softly to him, "I suppose not. It's copyrighted." He pouts slightly at your words, his facial expression looking disappointed as you point out that he had simply copied the name from the name tag of the plush. Instantly, you find yourself quickly adding on to your words, silently determined to cheer him up again and bring that bright smile back to his lips. "Though, it's still a great name! I think Blahaj loves it." With your hands, you make Blahaj nod slightly towards your words, a small smile forming on your lips as you watch Bokuto brighten up as well. "Really?" He asks, taking Blahaj out of your hands, smiling brightly as he nuzzles foreheads with it. "You're called Blahaj from now on, then." He says softly to the shark, before taking your hand gently in his again, bringing you out of the display room as you widen your eyes slightly at him. "Are you sure we can take this out of the room like this?" You ask softly as you catch up to his small excited steps, your eyes gazing at Blahaj which he keeps onto with a tight, yet seemingly gentle hold. "Why not?" He simply responds as he turns to face you, an innocent and adamant gaze in his eyes. "He's our son now. He should follow us on this small trip." His soft words echo in your ears as you look at him, only to meet with that small bright smile. You feel your cheeks warm slightly at his words, the corners of your lips lifting up slightly. You can't help but wonder whether he was joking. If his words held no weight and no meaning, only a simple remark you were overthinking about.
Looking at Bokuto, you feel your head nag at your heart to take it lightly. After all, someone like Bokuto probably never placed too much thought into what he said. He probably meant it as nothing more than a joke. Thinking of it as something more than that seemed wrong.
extra side smau parts!
how is blahaj pronounced? (ft. the big brains & victims of the arts)
✎ fyi!
I went to check out an actual Ikea (in my country unfortunately) for ref, that's why this took longer :') the nostalgia was crazy ngl (I used to love going there when I was so so much younger)
im sorry if this chapter ended disappointing or what not (admitably I don't think I cooked this up well I'm sorry)
yes Bokuto bought yn blahaj (mainly because she looked incredibly reluctant to part with blahaj and he knew how it felt to not be able to get something he couldn't have)
yn wasn't that reluctant (if she was being honest) she was actually still wondering whether Bokuto meant "our son" as a joke
she didn't have any time to refuse Bokuto's request to buy her Blahaj (he did it behind her back)
Bokuto meant to say "our pet" btw but he forgot the word "pet" for a while and said "our son" instead (he wasn't intending on making yn this confused :'))

CW! | mentions of death and blood
"seeing snow on the beach isn't the same without you,
Tiny speckles of snowflakes hit the ground gently, seemingly swallowing the blades of green grass and soft sand into a plain canvas of snow. The usual waves of lukewarm salt water which would lick up the front of your toes as you stood close to the shore seemed to contain tiny snow crystals. Standing in awe of the sight before you, you part open your lips to puff a small breath of air out, forming a small mist cloud into the air before it disappears quickly. Hearing a small chuckle behind you, you turn around to face Daichi's warm and bright smile. There he was, standing before you, both hands in his front pockets despite how they were already kept warm by the winter gloves worn over them.
"Do you think I can catch the snow crystals in the sea?" You ask him softly as you glance back at him before looking towards the sea again, admiring the way they sparkle slightly, standing out before the heaps of white snow patches. The sea, before the snowy ground, brought life to its surroundings. Like blush applied to one's cheeks after a layer of foundation, it brought colour and dimension to the beach on the first day of snowfall. Before he even answers, you squat down before the sea, which washes up before the shore slightly, each time taking a bit of the snow with it. Removing one knitted glove, you let your hand run along the sea water slightly, the cold water sending chills down your spine as it laps at your fingers. You hear Daichi's footsteps behind you, inching closer before you feel his warm touch comb through your hair. The fabric of his glove grazes the tip of your ear as he scoops up a handful of your hair with his hand. "You should tie back your hair, you might have better luck." He responds softly. His simple but comforting gesture makes you turn back, giving him a warm smile as your eyes meet the sight of him holding a handful of your hair back for you. "How about you do it?" You ask, poking his arm gently, letting him feel your cold fingertips which you had just pulled out from the cold sea surface. At your comment, he beams back at you slightly, the smile warm and endearing. For a moment, he seemed to accept your request, squatting down next to you and removing one of his knitted gloves. But instead, he hands the glove to you, placing it in the palm of your hand as he stares into your eyes and responds, his voice low and comforting, "I'm sorry yn. I couldn't see the first snow with you on the beach." His words make you purse your lips slightly, your eyebrows creasing as you stare at him in confusion. "Wha...What do you mean?" But he doesn't respond back, only giving you the same warm smile that he has been showing you all this while. Splat. The sound of something dripping on the ground echoes into your ear as your eyes instantly drop down to the ground before you. Red. It's so red. The colour of red almost blinds your eyes as more dripping sounds began to follow along, staining the white snow like an impurity. "I'm dead remember?" His voice finally sounds out again, echoing into your ear as you quickly lift your eyes back up towards him, your lips quivering. "N..no.." You stammer as you quickly reach to grab his hand, the hand that was flowing endlessly with blood, staining the white carpet of snow. "You're not dead, Daichi. You're here...here with me..." You repeat softly, almost to yourself as you reach for his hand. You feel your fingers shaking ever so slightly as you reach for him, not because of the cold, but because of...fear. You don't want to lose him. But before you could even grasp his hand properly, his figure disappears before you, only leaving trails of blood on your hands as you stare down at it in horror. "I'm sorry...I couldn't enjoy the first snow with you at the beach." His words echo in your ear again as tears fill your eyes. Your mouth gapes open, trying to scream but nothing comes out. The surroundings seem to still for a moment and the sound of waves crashing becoming more muffled in your ears.
The familiar sound of your alarm greets your ears next as your eyes flutter open immediately, greeting the bright yellow patterns of your room wall, an attempt in making your bedroom less dull. It was just a dream. You realise as you immediately flip your body to rest on your right side, hoping to see a familiar figure, resting comfortably next to you. "Daichi?" You call out as you turn around, only to come face to face with an empty and almost spotless side of your own bed. It was a dream. A dream that reminded you of his death and the promise you asked him to make with you. Nothing has changed about your reality. "Let's go and see the beach together today, okay?" You continue anyway, despite knowing how you're just talking to yourself right now. There isn't anyone beside you and that's the truth you've known for three years. It's just you, lying alone on the large queen size bed. Slipping out from under the thick down duvet that have kept you warm during your sleep, you rub your eyes gently as your feet met the cold floor. Oh. I forgot to turn on the bedroom's heater yesterday. You think silently to yourself as you reach for your phone on the bedside table, your fingers moving automatically to your voicemail inbox, playing the first recorded voicemail as if its a natural habit. And perhaps it is. Three years of doing the same exact thing, even if it's only during a particular period of time is enough repetition to be considered a habit. "Yn, good morning. Is it too early to be calling you right now?" His familiar voice fills your ears as your fingers press onto the play button. Instantly, it feels like a heavy weight is being lifted from your heart as soon as his voice is met by your ears. A heavy weight that you carry way too often that sometimes you don't even notice it until it is lifted. "I hope you're still not crying over Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind from last night." At that sentence, you can't help but laugh softly, remembering how you cried so much over that bizarre movie. A movie that Daichi said was too quirky to get as emotional as you were over. You had spent the whole later half of the movie making Daichi throw your tear-soaked tissues into the bin which was conveniently placed near the couch. Not that he ever complained about it, he had always embraced all your ugly cries over emotional films like any other parent would to a crying baby. Glancing into the mirror as you place your toothbrush into your mouth, pausing slightly after as you meet your reflection. For a moment you seemed to meet your teary-eyed past self after watching the movie as Daichi places on a headband, which held back the strands falling over your eyes so you could wash up better for bed. He used to tease you relentlessly about your puffy eyes while you brushed your teeth reluctantly, not ready to set aside the heavy emotional baggage those bittersweet movies gave you, trying to get you to stop overwatering your eyes. "Do you remember what you told me before you slept?" His voice cuts back into the monotonous sound of your toothbrush bristles grinding against your teeth, breaking the thoughts in your head. The reflection you thought you've seen of you and Daichi vanishes from the bathroom mirror as well, snapping you back to reality. "You wanted to see snowy beaches like those in the movie as well." Ah right. That's where the promise came from. The realisation pops into your head as you pull your toothbrush out of your mouth, placing it under the running tap water as you daze out for a moment. The promise that you would both visit the beach on the first snow day together. "I told you that's silly because that scene was a heartbreaking scene and you would cry again if I brought you to see the beach on a snowy day and I'd rather not do that." His words make you laugh dryly for a moment, the toothbrush nearly slipping out of your grasp under the running tap water as your nose turns stuffy, thinking back about that day. "I'm sorry you got pouty over that. You know I didn't mean that, right?"
"I would gladly bring you to the beach on a snowy day if you desperately wanted to." His words make you choke on your breath for a moment before you force water into your mouth with both hands, trying to bury your soft whimpers with the sound of gurgling. You can't cry right now. At least not now. You repeat to yourself in your mind as you bring your fingers to press the pause button on the voicemail recording, taking soft shaky breaths as your knees sink to the ground. If you cry right now, the sounds wouldn't allow you to hear Daichi's voicemail properly. Regaining your breath slowly, you bring yourself back onto your two legs, your hands clutching onto the edge of the sink desperately for support. It is as though the moment you let go your legs would fall back onto the cold bathroom tiles.
Lifting one hand slowly from gripping the edge of the sink slowly, you lift a finger to press play again on your phone screen, letting the recording run again. "So yn, if you allow me, let me make a promise to you to make up for the words I said last night." For a moment, you let your head drop to a form a small nod, as though he was speaking right in front of you as you hear his words. "Let's go to the beach on the first day of snowfall." A small weak smile forms on your lips as a tear slips down from your eyes. The promise sounded as sweetly familiar as you remembered it to be. Back then, you had held that promise so close to your heart. You would have reminded him every day as soon as winter seemed to close in. Everything romantic and anything special with Daichi, you loved those moments the most. This promise meant more than just a simple promise that was meant to cheer you up. It was like Daichi telling you he would embrace whatever you said was valuable to you. "We can wish something together while lying down on the heaps of snow gathering along the coastlines." "We can watch the sunset together although the most we will probably see is snowflakes falling and the winter fog." "Except, unlike Joel and Clementine, that day we won't mark the end of our relationship. It will be the start of our forever." Forever is no longer a concept you can promise you will have with Daichi anymore. The bitter truth reminds you softly, the noise almost irritating to hear as you swallow slowly and unwillingly. You're wrong Daichi. You think silently as you throw on a winter coat onto your shoulders, slipping your phone into the pocket as the recording comes to an end. Our love story isn't any much different from Joel and Clementine. I will struggle trying to forget everything about what I can no longer have. While you won't even pause a moment to think that those happy memories could ever become something heart wrenching. Yet, I can't bring myself to ever regret anything about you. And it sounds controversial to what I said before, but if I had one wish...
I wish I don't ever have to forget you.
a/n: I researched on movies that seemed to have snowy beach scenes for this chapter and honestly I was so shocked to realise how the movie, Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind, to be so ironically similar. I'll link the plot so y'all could understand the film reference drops better! Personally, not a huge fan of this show because of how confusing it can get but it has a really meaningful message behind it. taglist: @sahrii @keijiskisser (for new additions/removals pls use this form, thank you!!)

prologue: three winters ago,
back to masterlist | next
CW! | mentions of death and blood, light mentions of suicide
"If I could choose the memories I wanted to keep, it would be anything but what happened then.
You still remember the day clearly in your head. The crisp sound of fresh snow crunching beneath your snow boots, the cool icy wind biting the tip of your nose and the edges of your earlobe as you snuggle deeper into your scarf for warmth. On the first day of snow, 22 November 2022. The cold was more bitter than before, nearly steeling the soft heart of yours. Tears slipped past your eyelids uncontrollably, quicker than the time taken for the atmospheric temperature to freeze them into snow crystals once they hit the ground. The sight of blood which stained the fresh white snow, the mark leaving a sense of distaste within you as you fall to your knees, sinking into the cold snow as you sob loudly into your thick warm scarf. The one he gave to you a few days ago.
It isn't anything special, really. You had multiple scarves in your possession before this silly hand knitted one he had given to you, certain patches of the stitches being a little out of order. Yet, he insisted you kept this scarf he had given to you, stating that the material of thread he had chosen was one that could keep you warm eternally over the winter season. Better than the other scarves you had. He had claimed as he shoved it into your hands. Back then, you could tell him confidently that you would be warm forever even without the scarf he had given you. Because you knew that his presence was the only source of warmth you needed. But now, with your head spinning. Your breath caught in your throat, coming out choked and suffocated. The words, "I'll be forever warm even without this scarf feels like a heavy weight you can't even spit out from the depths of your throat. He's gone. Daichi's dead. The man who steered you from making irrational decisions. The man who lent you his shoulders every time you needed comfort. The man who made sure you kept a balanced diet in every single meal you took. And also the man who you knew spent dedicated and committed amounts of time crocheted a scarf, even if he barely knew the basics of crocheting, to keep you warm and comfortable. Who knew that this scarf would have been the last gift you would receive of him? You wish you knew sooner. Maybe you would have thanked him more. Told him to not leave for work just yet. Stay a little longer. But you knew you wouldn't have then. In fact, you couldn't. You could've cried, begged and pleaded him to stay but he would've told you firmly, "For the safety of all residents, I would never let a killer suspect run loose for long. I need to go." And you would've let him. For who couldn't say 'no' to actions who brought back world peace and justice? Even if it meant knowing he would've died three winters ago. Three winters ago, you remember seeing the news report about the double murder of Daichi and the infamous serial killer. After that news report, you had to rush yourself to the toilet and retch into the toilet bowl, the queasy feeling in your stomach unable to bear the burden of the news even when you've seen the crime scene in person. Three winters ago, you remembered refusing to hold a funeral for Daichi, knowing you weren't ready to accept his death and send him off to the afterlife. Then, many of your close friends had questioned your decision, asking you to rethink it multiple times as it seemed rude to refuse holding a funeral for the dead. Still, your answer remained the same. Three winters ago, you remember standing limply before the mirror, your hands clutching onto Daichi's police gun firmly as you shakily point it to your own head. The only thoughts running through your mind after seeing the thin white fabric laid over his body as he was wheeled away from the crime scene was thinking everything had been stripped away from yourself then. Your source of joy, peace and comfort. All gone within that one moment. For a moment, being alive without Daichi's presence felt disgusting. It made you feel unworthy of living. But three winters ago, you didn't do it. You didn't pull the trigger. Instead, you had dropped the gun and swore to yourself that until you had found a reason to live, this decision will fall back into your mind. It's been three winters. Three winters without Daichi. It's time to let what happened three winters back go.
a/n: im sorry if my descriptions of first snow was so bad; I don't live in a country which snows (also tried a new format style, could you tell? teehee >< also if any of the words become large, pls ignore it...I tried to change it but it keeps glitching)

“Babe, have you - oh no.”
Your boyfriend Daichi stopped in his tracks when he saw you sobbing into a tissue on the couch, wrapped practically airtight in a thick fluffy blanket with only the cable from your heating pad sticking out.
On the TV a chubby seal pup was calling its mother that apparently fell prey to an orca just a few seconds earlier.
He sighed and came to stand in front of you, hands on his hips to block the screen.
“What did we say?”
You shrunk into your blanket, looking up at him with big tear-filled eyes.
“No nature documentaries when I’m on my period?”
“Then why are you doing this to yourself? This is gonna be the seahorse thing from last month all over again.”
At the mention of your previous trauma, a new wave of tears rolled down your cheeks.
“It got carried too far in the current! It was all alone!”
“And what did you make me do?”
“Hold my hand in the supermarket so you wouldn’t lose me?”
“And why was that not a good idea?”
You took a deep breath and tried to recount the gentle scolding you received afterward, “Because to safely push a cart you need two hands.”
“And?”
“And I made you swerve into a display of tomato sauce.”
“So in conclusion?”, he raised an expectant brow.
You picked up the remote and turned on a different movie.
“Thank you.”, he said and leaned down to kiss the top of your head, “I ordered take-out for dinner. Now, move over.”
You scooted a bit to the left so he could sit down next to you and pull you into his arms for comfort, large warm hand slipping into the blanket cocoon gently rubbing your soft aching tummy.
a/n: this might be the silliest one yet
#okay but why is this so cute#yn is so mood for nearly crying over nature documentaries during period#and daichi is so canon in this#like bro would definitely get so logical over this that his first instinct is to not comfort you but get you to shut the documentary#not the cart swerving into the tomato sauce display#need to know what happened to that mess frfr

⌧ | TEXTS FROM THE DUMPSTER
07: NBD (no big deal) ⌦
← previous | back to masterlist | next →
CW! | slight brainrot terms used, (not clarified well but) written part in yn's perspective, possibly lengthy chapter ahead, kind of slight angst(?)
Rubbing your temples gently in a circular motion with your fingers, you stare at your lecturer blankly, hearing his voice drone on and on about the upcoming midterm assignment.
"This is very important, it consists of 60% of your total marks within this whole year." He says as you cup a hand over your right cheek, your eyes lazily drifting about the classroom as his words continue to act as background noise.
Perhaps I should be listening to this. After all, it's something I would be graded for. You thought silently as you attempted to seem more attentive, bringing your drooping shoulders upright, straightening up slightly, no longer slumping against your chair.
"This is no easy task I have to admit. But I think that a challenge is what really sets y'all apart from the average and the top."
He continues as your eyes followed the transition to the next slide on his PowerPoint presentation. And there the assignment details are written onto the slide, cramped across the centre of the slide.
Compact Loft Apartments. The screen reads and instantly almost everyone in the room sounds out a collective groan.
With the rise of minimalistic apartments hosting singles, tiny apartments which can barely fit a bathroom and bedroom in neat separate spaces have been trending. More people have turned to be fascinated about the idea of how people work out such tiny spaces in day to day living. Which might also explain why Little John's videos on how to expand small spaces with galvanized square steel has been going viral as well.
And of course, your course module teacher is not an exception. In fact, he is so obsessed with the idea of minimalism that he watches YouTube videos on people exploring Tiny Japanese Apartments. Often fascinated by the different possible designs brought about, he has showed you all various videos on them as well as part of his "teaching".
The idea is quite bizzare for you to comprehend. Tiny apartments could barely host spaces for toilet bowls and showers to be installed in private corners. For instance, you remembered watching on the Japanese man who spent most of his day doing everything in his bathtub from one of those videos shared by her module teacher. If anything, you found living in a tiny apartment almost unfeasible, even for a single person.
"However, I am sure most of you are very familiarised with the concept of tiny loft apartments, hence I will not explain further. That's all for today's lesson, guys."
The teacher's voice snaps you out of your thoughts as you gaze at the screen once again, which has now exited the PowerPoint slideshow. Students are already gathering into groups and discussing about the assignment while packing up.
You heaved a small sigh, your hands scrambling to pack up your items, shoving them into your tote bag hastily. You're thinking about grabbing a ready-to-eat chicken breast from the campus' grocers for a quick bite while you start brain storming for the assignment, when you suddenly feel a vibration coming from your phone.
Who could it be? You wonder silently as you take it out of your pocket, pausing your pack up to check the notifications.
After navigating your route to the yakinku place Bokuto suggested grabbing lunch at, you set down your phone on the table and sit yourself down back into your seat for a bit.
Making mental notes in your head, you stare at the blank projector screen mindlessly for a moment.
The assignment slideshow that was there before had long disappeared, yet the title words ‘Compact Loft Apartments’ still seemed to be there haunting you.
Guess my lunch plans will need a bit of change then. Hopefully I will have time later to brainstorm for the assignment.
As much as you hated the thought of disrupting your brief plans that you made earlier to work on your assignments, you couldn't bear to turn down Bokuto.
Especially not when you have had the feeling of eating lunch all alone without your roommates before… It's a terrible and lonely feeling.
And it would be even more terrible for Bokuto. You think silently to yourself before finally picking yourself back up from your seat and walking out of the classroom.
It's hard to not think about anything else other than the assignment on your way there.
For the first time, you don't feel like pretending the lines on the floor are lava and you can't step on them.
For the first time, you're not admiring the falling tree leaves when the wind blows.
For the first time, you don't stop at a newly bloomed flower and hesitate about whether to take a picture of it.
And for the first time, you nearly miss the front door of a food place, walking past the doorstep just by three steps only to realise you've reached.
Which is weird because you never miss a step when it comes to finding the place you're gonna eat at. Especially when food is almost everything to you.
“Yn!" You hear Bokuto's voice call out to you as you swing open the door to the Yakiniku place.
It doesn't take more than a second to locate where Bokuto is sitted, because there he is waving enthusiastically at you behind the grill, which already has a platter or more pieces of meat lying on it.
You try to form a small smile on your face when you meet Bokuto's, which grins back at you so brightly, that it could compete with the afternoon's sun in terms of which would give off more energy and stand a 50℅ of winning.
“Hey, sorry did you wait long?”You ask finally after settling down on the seat opposite him, which he responds back immediately with a shake of the head.
“Nope! Not at all!”He says while moving his tongs to grab the pieces of meat off the grill, placing them onto your plate.
“These are for you by the way!" Bokuto says gleefully while doing so, making your eyes gaze back and forth, from the look on his face to the slices of grilled meat he places on your plate.
For the next hour or so, you don't remember exactly what happened. Even what you even placed into your own mouth. All you can remember is Bokuto grilling all the meat for you and serving them onto your plate, while your head juggling between reality and the assignment.
And you can't help but hate how distracted you were. You wished you could have solely focused on conversing with Bokuto earlier.
✎ fyi!
The video I mentioned in the post is this one (and I actually love watching them cos i genuinely find them interesting)
Bokuto genuinely worried his head off that he got too annoying for yn to handle when she didnt use emojis (so when she used two crying face emojis in 'you noticed' he was instantly relieved)
He was still very cheery to yn tho (because he felt that yn was feeling down & wanted to cheer her up)
He considered going to the guys group chat and crying a bit about how awkward the yakiniku lunch was (but decided afterwards to man up because they were all busy with projects/assignments & he shouldnt disturb them)
The yakiniku lunch was actually really awkward; I would cry if I was there (half the time yn gave dry responses and dazed out in her surroundings (because she was stressed)
Brainstorming for projects/assignments are no joke; it gets really tiring especially when your mind starts blanking but you need more ideas (I hate it so much)
