Did you know research from the American Psychological Association has found psychological stress to be as damaging to the body as physical stress?! ____ Researchers in the field of psychoneuroimmunology (PNI) have found that the immune system, nervous system and hormone system are directly impacted by people’s mental and emotional health _____ PNI Research suggests that chronic stress can lead to mood disorders, depression, anxiety, autoimmune diseases and decreased cognitive functioning ____ Byproducts of stress hormones can act as sedatives in the body, which when produced in large amounts can contribute to feelings of low energy and fatigue —— Emotional stress, pro inflammatory people and energy vampires can literally drain your energy and be detrimental to your overall health ____ High levels of stress hormones have been found to damage critical parts of the brain, such as the hippocampus, which are responsible for memory ____ Setting emotional and energetic boundaries is something that is as important to your health as setting up good sleep hygiene, reducing your toxic load and reducing overall levels of stress ____ Time and energy are your most valuable currency... spend, invest and withdraw accordingly ____ #fuckbudget #brainhealth #briannapproved #functionalmedicine #HPAaxis #holistichealth (at Costa Mesa, California) https://www.instagram.com/p/BsTM9DxHLwX/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1f819bgiqibih

Medical Intuitive Healer Catherine Carrigan Demonstrates How to Adjust Your Pituitary Gland https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qTRLD8oz73I&feature=youtu.be Your pituitary is the master gland in your body. It is a pea-sized gland attached to the base of your brain that regulates and monitors many body functions through the hormones it produces. Your pituitary regulates your thyroid, adrenal glands, gonads, kidneys, uterus and breasts. Some of the latest research about depression shows that you may feel depressed as a result of dysregulation of what is known as your HPA axis - your hypothalamic pituitary adrenal axis. When you are caught in chronic stress, your pituitary gland may not work optimally. This technique from Total Body Modification allows you to re-set your pituitary gland. For more information about how you can set up a medical intuitive reading or healing work, please visit www.catherinecarrigan.com or email catherine@catherinecarrigan.com. #medicalintuitive #medicalintuitivehealer #pituitary #HPAaxis #pituitarygland #naturalhealing #healing #naturalhealth #TBM #TotalBodyModification #energyhealing #healingthemind #brainhealing #brain #mastergland https://www.instagram.com/p/CG7_LgynuJ4/?igshid=j7x5ja261ymz

HPA axis dysfunction is inflammation due to a variety of stressors, including emotional stress (at home or work), undiagnosed infections, exposure to environmental toxins (such as toxic mold) and pollutants, and food sensitivities or poor diet. Early stressful life events and alterations of hypothalamic pituitary adrenal (HPA) axis function seem to have a significant role in the onset of anxiety. Existing data appear to support the mediating effect of the HPA axis between childhood traumata and posttraumatic stress disorder. #hpa #hpaaxis #stress #ptsd #inflammation #infections #toxins #pollutants #foodsensitivities #adrenalfatigue #pitutarygland #hypothalamic #healthyliving #healthandwellness #milsteinwellness https://www.instagram.com/p/CEeM6Ragiqh/?igshid=1ei8pgzs57mq9

My approach to treatment.
At Functional Medicine Center, when I begin working with someone, the first thing we do is start at the foundation of the problem.
For example, if you’re renovating a house, would you do any of the below if the foundation was crumbling?.
Paint the walls
Buy & install new furniture
Install a new roof
Build a deck.
No! It would all crumble down sooner than later and all the efforts to “spruce” up the house would have been in vain..
This is the same thing when it comes to your health. Before simply treating symptoms, you must first address your foundation which is the HPA axis. The main function of this system is the regulation of stress in the body.
When working with patients, this is often the first thing we at Functional Medicine Center address, because then the other pieces fall into place easier...Do you have questions about the HPA-axis, stress, or anything to deal with adrenals? Let me know in the comments below!

Do you have too much cortisol pumping at the wrong times of the day?! Don’t be fooled by the concept of “adrenal fatigue”, you need to understand you likely have dysregulated cortisol patterns, which can be causing you to feel “fatigued”, wired and tired and straight up #merp ——— Here are a few signs that you actually have TOO much cortisol ——— 1- You aren’t sleeping great—our cortisol levels should be lowest at nighttime, but if you find yourself tired all day, but getting your second wind at night and then feel tired again the next day, you likely have cortisol levels that are too high ——— 2- Even after a full night of sleep you still feel like you could pour an entire pot of coffee on your head- over time having high amounts of cortisol can cause our body to switch a flip and take our active cortisol and have our kidneys turn it into inactive cortisone, which can make us feel tired ——— 3- Body pains level 1000—too much cortisol can increase levels of prolactin, which can hyper-sensitize the brain to pain ——— 4- Sex drive is crap- consider excess cortisol to be the anti-Viagra ——— 5- Your gut is acting a fool- your GI tract is sensitive to stress hormones, which can cause an increase in gut issues such as bloating, diarrhea, constipation and heartburn ——— 6- You feel generally blasé - high levels of cortisol can suppress the production of serotonin and deplete B and C vitamins, Zinc and Magnesium, which are required for producing our feel good neurotransmitters and hormones _____ #briannaapproved #cortisol #adrenal #adrenalfatigue #hpaaxis #hormonehealth #energy #recoveringsuperspaz #functionalmedicine #adaptogens #inflammation @dutchtest (at Coffee Dose at East Eighteenth)
