Annotating HOH rn, & on a 2nd read, holy shit the way rick has written the ground work up to the cupid stuff is so good! Like he shows how majority think abt nico, how nico is feeling and acting AND also telling us the stuff about Bob & percy in the chapter right before it!

Like, the amount of detail he had put down leading up to it is honestly really cool! We have frank who is trying to like him but still is scared & doesn't like him, leo who is just scared of him & doesn't like him, hazel who loves him cuz that's her brother & he did save her from the underworld and under all of his scaryness is one of the only ones who sees the real him, percy who didn't like for a little bit now feeling guilty that he didn't like him (+ the bob stuff), and now there's Jason, who up until this point was cautious of him.

He's a child of the underworld & he doesn't know him, ofc he's going to be cautious. Everyone else until this point isn't fond of the guy & we can see why, but we haven't seen what Nico thinks about that, how he feels being a ship where 90% of ppl are terrified of him.

Then we get a bit of the answer of why Nico acts the way he does even more in that chapter. It's because he hates himself for something he can't control, & when you feel that way + alr getting kinda picked on for who your dad is..... Its no wonder he's aggressive, moody, scary. He pushes people away so they don't get close, find out his secret, and hate him even more. Say that "I knew there was reason I didn't like you! You're weird! You're a f@g!"

Or smth like that. Everyones already uneasy around him, only keeping him around so they can finish the quest. In his mind, who's to say it won't get even worce once they do find out. That there assumptions will be rectified, and that they were correct.

It's safer just to stay silent.

I love how right before the Cupid scene, Jason has to just fucking decide whether he’d homophobic or not. Like he still has very little memory of his past, for all he knew he could’ve been a massive anti-gay activist growing up. He could’ve been a misogynistic, racist transphobe who boycotted drag brunches and protested pride marches. But, in that moment, he’s faced with a choice. He has no idea if he’s even met a gay person before, he has no reason to show them any respect or human decency- it really doesn’t affect him. But he’s faced with that choice, and he chooses kindness.

You see, queerness isn’t a choice. Homophobia is.

Be more like Jason Grace. Choose kindness.

The kiss sketch is pretty self explanatory lol, I dont know how to draw people kissing so I hope it came out alright at least hihi.

For the bathroom one I initially went with a completely different angle! But I felt like that didn't really convey the scene well so I settled on this one instead. :3

The straddle scene... This chapter was initially gonna have 2 drawings, one with the bear in the backseat and the one you're seeing here. We figured it would save some time since we could reuse the scene and only had to switch the characters around. But that made it kind of boring... So we settled with a more interesting perspective! A million thanks to Rory for making the initial sketch for it ♥ Although I cannot show that one, I *can* show the rough sketch of the final drawing!

I think it's kind of obvious that I winged it with the car stuff. I hope it doesn't break the immersion too much </3

Sometimes I forget exactly what outfit they're wearing and mess it up lol. Thank god for Rory for correcting me whenever I show the sketch. Here's Ian without the hoodie, ehe.

As we were planning the art for some of the chapters, we kind of wanted some to be close ups of things or things that are easier to draw to kind of lighten the workload. This being one of them, but I still like it! I loved adding little easter eggs to the little doodles that made. There are some references to friends & inside jokes. This drawing doesn't just show Ian & Mickey's journey, but ours as well :)

The sketch for the scene where Mickey grabs ian's waist was actually sketched by Rory! She has helped me sooo much with the art and I truly cannot thank her enough for it. Because I didn't create the sketch I cannot show it. However I kind of got a funny story. While I was drawing this some friends and I were watching Pitch Perfect and I was streaming it. But I had to open the sketch so I could copy it and Accidentally showed it on stream and I panicked so hard hahahaha. Soooo if some of y'all remember seeing it 👀 now u know what it was for, lol.
