My favorite thing in the whole Grishaverse is pre-Six of Crows Kanej. Just thinking about the two of them forming a partnership, gradually becoming best friends, going on jobs together, training together, fighting together, spying together, lying on their bellies next to each other, scheming together in Kaz's office, gossiping about Ketterdam and the latest murder mysteries in town, solving and sussing out secrets, stealing stuff, buying stuff to eat occasionally, eating it together, sometimes sharing it with a bottle of whiskey or what not, killing together, killing for each other, watching over each other, seeing sunrises and sunsets together, bickering with each other, sometimes having coffee in the morning, a tired Inej falling asleep in Kaz's bed, a tired Kaz falling asleep at his desk and Inej putting a blanket on him, sometimes one cleaning and bandaging wounds that the other can't reach, and over the course of this, gradually building trust and emotional intimacy, and, as a result, ultimately falling in love with each other.

Do you guys ever think about the fact that Wylan had precious few memories of his mother?? Even though he lost her at a similar age to Jesper, who remembers his mother clearly?? To Kaz losing his Da, who he’s implied to remember well?? (I have more thoughts on Kaz’s active choice to bury those memories and his freaking constant parallels to Matthias but that’s no relevant right this second)

Do you ever think about that in conjunction to Wylan being taken abroad and “everywhere” with his father all the time?? Bc sometimes I imagine Marya standing up to Van Eck in attempts to defend Wylan and I don’t imagine that was the only time she stood up to him (her defending Wylan is probably part of why he sent her away) and I wonder whether since we know she was probably not safe in her marriage (and probably didn’t chose it based on what we know of Alys and how the Kerch patriarchal system works) and I wonder whether to some degree Van Eck separated her from Wylan as some kind of effed up punishment for standing up to him because Wylan had very clear memories of going away w his father and is implied to have some kind of photographic/eidetic memory like Kaz in the whole card counting thingy so why would he have so few memories of his mother if not because he was actively kept away from her during those periods that he still has clear memories of?? Idk but ultimately van eck is a skiv and I wouldn’t put it past him to punish Marya by separating her from Wylan and like he wouldn’t out rightly state it but they both knew that was what he was doing yk??? Anyway that’s just a theory I have

Kerch History Museum (Section 2F, Misc. Artifact Archives)

Inscription on the inside of a captain's notebook, one of the only pages that has not been ripped out. The book was found on a boat belonging to the Wraith fleet, a collection of ships led by captain Inej Ghafa which succeeded in taken down slaver boats and quelling the stream of indentures sold to Kerch pleasure and labour houses. The book is suspected to have belonged to Ghafa, and the crow stamp suggests it was a gift from a member of the Dregs, an infamous Barrel gang often tied to Ghafa and her work on land. Thinking about how, as a child, Kaz was so obsessed with magic tricks that he would practice them over and over again late into the night until he figured it out and mastered it. And then Inej snuck up on him, and disappeared, and then appeared again, and then disappeared again, like a magician's coin. Suddenly, she was the new trick that intrigued him, suddenly she was the magic, reminding him of when he was a boy. And so he put his mind to the task and flipped through the trick that was Inej over and over again until he just knew whenever she was there or near, until he could keep seeing her, until he could learn about her and what she likes and doesn't like.
