some golden guards + caleb

i wanted to take a break and do some character design of a few golden guards based off of some of the ones seen briefly in canon. i also drew hunter and caleb as references for faces and stuff. i tried to make them as similar as possible, but also looking very individual to one another. since belos claimed that hunter looks the most like caleb, i tried to stay true to that while keeping the other three looking similar but not quite as identical. anyways i love them <3 they’re like the most mentally ill family ever to me

these weren’t supposed to be real ocs or anything but then i ended up giving them names and backstories and so i wrote a little about them aaaand now im obsessed. i will try to make a full body ref for them, especially alistair and/or constance, if i have time

Hello!! Hope you're having a great day/noon/evening! I just want to ask if there are photos of how The Golden Kingdom's knights looked like? Like the armor they wear!

We don't really have any images of guards or knights from The Golden Kingdom I don't think. But we can assume their armor looked something like the living armors (or maybe exactly), since the kensuke monster tidbits might mean they mimic real armor (the bit about the wandering spirit of the king)

Plus the fact the big one has a Winged Lion motif, that would make sense for the golden kingdom. They might both be for "display" tho and not actually worn (especially the big one cause it's so ornated) and the knights probably didn't wear full-plate regularly

I asked @room-surprise about it and they had some insight I think could be useful for you oc creation (thank uu!)

"The maid saw Kensuke and because of that assumed Laios was a guard but that's historically accurate - usually there wasn't a 'uniform''. Uniforms didn't start to exist until MUCH Much later"

"Individuals would just wear small signals or colored cloth bits to identify which side they were on. Dungeon Meshi is in a weird transitional time period though - but point is, wouldn't be unusual for guards to all have somewhat unique outfits"

"Basically the Roman Empire had uniforms, and then nobody had uniforms again until around 1600-1700, and the Roman "uniform" had a lot of variation - similar to the Canary uniform where individual soldiers wore their clothes the way they liked, but you could still tell they were mass produced"

"For an OC I would suggest they give them some colorful cloth on top of whatever armor or chain mail they are wearing! like even just a red scarf or a tabard with a symbol on it would be historically accurate that's how you would identify who you work for"

Imagine one day this tailor kills 7 flies with one swat and decides thats such an awesome feat that now he tells everyone "i killed 7 at once" and everyone thinks hes an actually a skilled fighter who killed 7 people so he keeps getting roped into doing extremely dangerous stuff. Hes going up against giants, a big boar and even a unicorn and always wins with his witts.

Cool guy, i always liked the part where he goes up against a giant in a copetition of strength and the giant is like "i am going to milk rocks" and starts pressing those rocks so hard that water drips out. And this guy is just like ah yes imma do the same and takes out the soft cheese he had in his pocket for lunch, acting as if its just a weird looking rock and pressing moisture out of it
