Wool & lana
The word lana (wool) in languages such as Spanish is etymologically related to English wool. For words to be related, they don't have to look like each other. Instead, you have to be able to trace them back to the same ancestor through regular sound changes - and that's what linguists managed to do with wool and lana. The infographic shows the Germanic and Romance family trees of these words.

i'm curious now, what languages do you speak?
Ah, well, I can speak Romanian (since it’s my mother-tongue), English, German, learnt Scottish Gaelic as a hobby in college, and I’m currently studying Greek, for my mother was from Greece and I’d love to feel more connected to her.
Odd list, I know, but I think it’s helpful knowing some foreign languages, no matter how random.

Feuer & feu
The German word Feuer looks a bit like French feu and both mean 'fire'. That's a coincidence, because they're not etymologically related in any way. Feuer, like English fire, comes from West Germanic *fuir, while feu stems from the unrelated Latin word focus, 'hearth', which only later came to mean 'fire'. Focus was borrowed into English and many other languages as focus, its meaning 'focus (of a lens; of an ellipse)' created by Johannes Kepler. My new infographic tells you all about these words.

A small headcanon that I had in my mind is that that the current generation of Belmonts nationality are romanian (because my brain wouldn't leave me alone as latin version of Julius' name is Iulius). I also want to believe that Julius knows romanian and he talked with Alucard in that language before his amnesia.

hi!!! just got to talk to my dad about the books of you were still were curious about it :) he confirmed they usually send him 5-20 books when a book comes out plus one or two for reprintings (depends on the publishers) and i guess that goes for translations too!
btw the spanish cover for dans book physically hurt me because they separated a single word in two lines without hypen or anything!!! i get its to keep the desing even but ahhggg as a graphic designer and spanish speaker hurts sorry for the ramble haha!!!
omgggggg, your pain is so valid! i would be pissed if they did the same with my language as well. they could literally just make the text smaller, right? anyway.
thank you so much for sharing 🙌 i want them to show us all the copies they have, including tabinof and dapgo, lol
