1700s WOMEN - PART 2
Lace as a luxury was carried over from the 17th century, used as a status simple for the wealthy to flaunt. From the mid-century on it migrated to the neck in the form of delicate chokers, which were a fashionable alternative to traditional jewelled necklaces. As hairstyles became larger hat styles became smaller until they were discarded altogether for a time, followed by extremely large hats that accommodated the curls, plaits and frizzed hair beneath. My Fairy Lady: Sophia & Augusta 1790's mini set
Tumblr media
Sophia & Augusta, a mid-1790s dress, hair, and ribbon (hat) overlay for your sims in celebration of me reaching 500 Tumblr followers last week, which is very shocking considering I had around 110 in the middle of January, so thank you :)
There are scarcely any 1790s items in the sims, especially mid to late, so here you go! I also think I'm the first person to make a 1790s hair.
I used mesh pieces from @the-melancholy-maiden @buzzardly28 @javitrulovesims @cringeborg and @vintagesimstress to make all of this.
Augusta 1790s Dress works from about 1794-1799.
Sophia 1790s hair works from about 1791-1798 (and is 14k poly, sorry). Hair isn't really that compatible with other hats aside from this ribbon overlay.
BGC, hair has all natural swatches, ribbon overlay, and dress both have 30 swatches. Everything is found towards the bottom due to my display index (you should see my thumbnail)
With the dress, all the patterns are historically accurate for the time and most are striped as stripes were very popular for the latter half of the 18th century.
Here are some different angles of everything

Now, here are some actual 1790s portraits and fashion plates

You know what absolutely fucks about Austen? Being some little old ladies companion. I just can imagine me and my grandmother waltzing the countryside, chatting shit, I read to her due to her bad eye sight and play the harpsichord or something. People ask when I will marry and my grandmother beats them off with a stick because I'm Her Companion and will not leave her for some Man.

The Artist and His Muse
I used to find looking at historical painted portraits to be a rather tiresome exercise. So many interchangeable faces in stuffy suits, uniforms and frilly dresses. But having the good fortune of living in the UK, where most museum entrances are free, I have had the opportunity to re-evaluate my initial misgivings. I began to appreciate the subtle hints of personality and genius brought to life…

Cream silk gauze wedding dress from 1822
"The bride was Lady Jane Lennox and the dress was worn at her wedding to Laurence Peel on 20 July 1822. 1700s WOMEN - PART 1
The commencement of the 1700s saw women's hair styles stay fairly demure, but it wouldn't take long for them to become much more elaborate. The popularity for wigs in men's styles crossed over to women, and as such hair styling opened up to wider experimentation. The development of heated curling tongs - paired with wool pads and wire supports - helped achieve the voluminous dos synonymous with the era. CC links and reference images under the cut.
