My dad sent me this.... is it bad that I laughed a little?
Submitted by @goat-yells-at-everything
You're ok imho
This wasn't mentioned in the article attached to this headline
Aramark, which has contracted with the university since 1976, made national headlines last year for serving students a Black History Month meal of ribs, collard greens and Kool-Aid, among other food that plays into racist stereotypes, critics charged.
The university claims it sought contracts for a new cafeteria operator before the controversy, but the decision to go with Chartwells was made last month.
The former general manager for NYU’s dining hall, Tim Hoben, was fired in the wake of the meal mishap and sued NYU and Aramark — alleging the company made him the scapegoat to save its lucrative contract.
The university shifted blame to Aramark amid the backlash, with President Andrew Hamilton saying at the time the meal choices “were not discussed with NYU beforehand. We were shocked to learn of the drink and food choices that our food service provider — Aramark — offered at the Weinstein dining hall as part of Black History Month. It was inexcusably insensitive.”
Aramark did not respond to The Post’s questions. _______________
So not totally clear who did it last time, gonna be totally different people involved too so there is a chance folks that did this had no clue.
I really like to give people the benefit of the doubt on things like this, gonna get some well meaning but ignorant person that thinks this is a good idea and then underpaid people in the kitchens making the stuff don't make enough money to risk their jobs by saying something.
Happens again there's gonna be issues, after this time there is going to be internal memos going to every single office about not doing this shit.
Stuff is all southern food, only gets the black moniker when you move out of the areas where it was the staple for everyone who was poor, remember freaking a friend out in high school because I could pronounce chitterlings correctly.
Stuff ain't exclusive to much of anything but economic class

The Employer-Based Social Safety Is a Disaster. We Can End It.
Hamilton Nolan
Companies can do math … Classic defined benefit pensions are the single most costly benefit that employers traditionally provided, when you add up their total cost over the lifetime of workers. So, for more than 40 years, unionized companies have been absolutely cutthroat at the bargaining table in their determination to shift their workers into 401(k)s. Over the decades, in the private sector, pension after pension has fallen, each a lost battle in an economic war.
Even the man who invented the 401(k) now acknowledges that this process has been a financial catastrophe for workers.
.
I am not bringing this up just to bemoan the fact that companies are greedy. Yes, companies are greedy, but that is because they are in essence machines programmed to maximize profits, so cursing them for being greedy is like yelling at a beaver for making a dam. That is what they do.
What the fuck are we doing? This is all very dumb.
If America were a rational nation we would have sat down after WW2 and said, “Well, we rule the world and we are about to be so, so rich, we’d better just pass a sensible piece of legislation providing for health care and retirement and child care and other basic necessities for all, like a normal and reasonable country.” Of course we did not do that. Instead, deep in Cold War psychosis, we evolved our way into a system that provided health insurance for most people from the employers, which may be a crazy way to do it but is definitely NOT COMMUNIST. Then later we kind of grafted on Medicare to try to plug the hole for people left out of this system. The evolution of employer-provided benefits has continued for generations. But our original sin was allowing ourselves to be drawn into this plainly inferior system in the first place.
.
Not to get super technical here but, because private companies are constantly trying to maximize profits, they have an ENORMOUS and NEVER-ENDING incentive to chip away at the cost of employee benefits. So it is unsurprising that, over time, such benefits will be jettisoned by employers at the first possible opportunity. I know I am speaking in generalities here, but this pretty much captures the trap we have gotten into: 1) Tie necessary life-sustaining benefits to employment, rather than building a universal public government-funded safety net. 2) Erode the unions which are the only force that prevent companies from engaging in a race to the bottom on the quality of these benefits. 3) The benefits go away and people die. In a mature and serious country, “workplace benefits” would be things like, you know, “a variety of free bagels.” Not stuff like “your health insurance” or “your ability to avoid poverty in your old age.” Remarkably stupid system. Really idiotic.
.
The “gig economy” is, in aggregate, an attempt by capital to build a system of employment with no employees. Companies have realized that if you can turn every full-time employee into an independent contractor and every job into a gig, then you can escape the responsibility of paying benefits (and enjoy a work force that is legally unable to unionize). The gig economy is the arbitraging away of the employer-based social safety net. The savings go to the investment class. The model, as you can see, expands to the entire economy, sucking in not just Uber drivers but also adjunct professors. The root cause of this is that we have created an enormous financial incentive for companies to get out of playing the role of Real Employer, which comes with a host of demands for employee benefits. The people who designed this system should have seen this all coming. If they did, they didn’t care.
.
You can write books on this topic, of course, and many people have. (One I read recently is “Over Work” by Brigid Schulte, an interesting exploration of various often stymied attempts to make workplace benefits more humane.)
.
Today, all I want to do is point out the fact that there is an escape route from all of this. This is an issue that presents the opportunity to create a natural alliance of convenience between business and workers. Not because business “cares” about human quality of life, but because business cares about itself.
.
If you open an ice cream shop, you want to sell ice cream. Do you want to be a health insurance provider? No. Do you want to be a life insurance provider? No. Do you want to be a retirement investment account provider? No. You want to be an ice cream provider. The absurd burden of making businesses into benefit providers weighs most heavily on small businesses, which are forced to pay to outsource this stuff to large firms. The system is predatory and confusing for employers and employees alike. Unfortunately, the logic of capitalism is simply for employers to try to escape their obligations to provide benefits, which leaves employees with nothing.
.
What needs to change is simply the calculation that employers make about what the path of least resistance is for their own operations. The rise of the gig economy is what happens when employers believe that their best option is just to pretend like none of this is their problem. Yet it is—in the long run, employers need a stable society that creates healthy working people who can survive and are not so desperate that they steal from their employer and also chop up the CEO and throw him in a river.
.
Employer-based health insurance, a system hated by everyone that benefits nobody except health insurance companies, is probably the single most obvious issue upon which the AFL-CIO and the Chamber of Commerce should be on the same side. Business should be demanding Medicare For All as loudly as Bernie Sanders is! They don’t want to deal with this shit either! All of this is, by definition, a distraction from an employer’s core business, and a financial burden. The same goes for providing retirement benefits to workers. Adequate public health care and adequate Social Security that obviates the need for private health insurance and private retirement plans would be great for American business. It would leave them to just do the thing that they are in business to do.
.
I don’t want to sound like a naive moron here. In order for the business world writ large to come to this conclusion, the first thing we must do is to close off the easier possibility they now prefer, which is to escape their responsibilities altogether through subcontracting and pushing full time jobs off their books, or whittling down benefit costs to the smallest possible number by eradicating union power. That means that we need to regulate the gig economy out of existence, at least in the sense of requiring gig economy companies to treat their workers like employees rather than independent contractors.
.
Building a public safety net would mean more taxes for businesses.
But a government system would be more efficient, meaning the long term cost would be lower, and
employers would also get the invaluable gift of never having to think about this shit again.
Providing a necessary social safety net to all citizens is properly the role of the state, not of private business. The very idea of outsourcing this role to private employers is plainly ludicrous.

Land Preparation in Hamilton and Guelph
Understanding the importance of land preparation in Guelph
The proper site preparation stage needs to be finished before any further construction-related activities can start. The success of the construction project hinges on the quality of this step, hence a contractor and land preparation in Hamilton experts who specializes in site preparation should be involved in this activity.
Determining if the chosen land is appropriate for the planned purpose is a crucial part of site preparation.
Are there adequate setbacks and enough space on the property for the construction you have in mind?
Will there be any impact on the current utility lines?
Will the planned site have an impact on the needs for property traffic now?
Is it possible to develop and build access roads on this land?
Is there a chance that the newly constructed structure may interfere with any existing easements?
An overview of the steps needed to prepare a building site for a project is shown below.
Step 1 – Surveying the Site
The main duties of Steel bird construction surveyors in the course of their work are site surveys and precise mapping of the area to be created. As most towns desire this information, the site survey should include the precise location of the new project, its proximity to any existing buildings, and the property lines.
Step 2 - Soil Testing and Examination
Soil testing and evaluation should be done prior to completing the purchase of newly acquired land. It is still required to test the soil even if you are the property's existing owner. The primary objectives of the test are to determine the ground's capability to absorb water and its ability to support the proposed project.
Step 3 - Clearing the Site and Probable Destruction
Currently, the place is being thoroughly cleaned. A preliminary grade will be constructed throughout the site by Steel bird construction contractor in charge of site preparation. This includes tearing down old structures, uprooting trees and their roots, and excavating any subsurface construction elements.
Step 4- Site Plan Designing
A site plan, also known as a plot plan, is a two-dimensional map that shows the intended constructions on a piece of land. Designing the blueprint is the responsibility of a Steel bird construction licensed surveyor. The design will encompass every road, walkway, landscape element, water supply line connected to your building, as well as its exact location and orientation on the ground.
When looking at a plan design of the construction site provided by land preparation in Guelph professionals, the first thing that one observes are the wellmarked property lines. Determining the precise separations between landmarks and landscape elements is the next step. Anything encompassed inside the boundaries of the property is taken into account.
Step 5 - Classifying and Soil Preparation
After the engineering design and site plan have been approved and all necessary permits have been obtained, digging can begin. The engineering plan will be provided by your land preparation in Guelph experts from Steel bird construction. It is generally against the law to begin clearing land for a new construction project before obtaining a building permit. Grading involves a lot more than just leveling the land; it also involves starting the foundation excavation process. The land is frequently cleaned during the site clearance stage, but it is not brought to the final grade. This may have been completed during the site clearance phase.
Steel bird construction makes it easier to locate reputable manufacturers of prefabricated metal buildings by allowing you to select the supplier that best suits your requirements and price range.

ADVICE ON HIRING A CONTRACTOR FOR ASPHALT SEAL COATING
Whether you are a home or business owner, you need to make sure that your parking lots are kept up properly. Your maintenance requirements could be anything from little fixes to complete blowouts. Finding the best asphalt contractors in Hamilton who can offer you timely, effective services at a reasonable price will help you make sure that your needs are sufficiently addressed. It is imperative that you conduct adequate research before to selecting a specific company. You can find recommendations online or by speaking with friends and family. The following nine pointers will help you choose an asphalt seal coating contractor:
Find out about the company's experience: Experienced businesses are typically better suited to handle any problems you may encounter. Additionally, these businesses most likely have experience with both residential and commercial projects, saving you from having to contact several for related issues.
Request a free estimate: Reputable businesses are happy to provide cost estimates for the services they will be performing. Included in this estimate should be a list of all the products and tools that will be used, along with their respective costs.
Clarify Scheduling: Get a preliminary timetable from the company that includes a clear timescale, even though weather-related delays will generate schedule-related problems.
Coverage by Insurance: There is very little possibility of an accident occurring on site. However, it's better to be safe than sorry. Make sure the business you choose to work with is insured. Choose a different company if it doesn't.
Locate a company nearby: Hiring a nearby firm is mostly advised because they possess the essential expertise of the local weather conditions. This will enable them to apply the seal coating at the appropriate moment and make the proper mixture.
Request references: You can request recommendations from prior customers from the business. Reputable businesses won't object to this request, but you should take it seriously if they decline to provide you the names of their clients.
Examine the credentials of the staff: reputable companies should hire only competent people, although this isn't always the case. Make sure you request documentation of their training in the methods to be applied and their proficiency with the necessary instruments.
Certification and Licensing: Verifying a company's certification and licensing status with the relevant authorities is crucial before working with them. This kind of information is typically easily accessible on the business website. If it isn't, though, you can request the relevant information from the business.
Examine the material's quality: You want your driveways and parking lots to last once they are paved. In order for this to occur, you must make sure that the asphalt being paved is of the highest caliber. In the long run, this will be worth it even if it turns out to be more expensive.

The Incredible Durability of Carhartt Apparel
When Hamilton Carhartt founded his workwear company in 1889, his goal was simple - create extremely durable clothing that could withstand the toughest jobs and working conditions. Over 130 years later, Carhartt has not only lived up to that promise but has set an unparalleled standard for ruggedness; evident in every single Carhartt wholesale offering.
Built To Last
Thousands of people love the brand for its durability, so much so that they believe some Carhartt garments can be passed down to the next generation in pristine condition, with enough care.
The key to this legendary durability lies in their meticulous construction techniques and premium materials. Take their signature duck cotton canvas fabric for example. This tightly woven, firm cotton twill is practically indestructible. It resists rips, tears, abrasions, and even fire, offering unmatched protection for workers in demanding industries like construction, manufacturing, and farming.
Even the seemingly normal wholesale Carhartt hoodies boast this durability. The toughness of the Carhartt’s garments goes well beyond just the fabric. The brand prioritizes reinforcing every potential stress point and failure area on its garments. Triple-stitched seams, riveted stress points, double-layered knees and elbows, and thick hardware ensure these clothes can endure years of intense use and abuse without falling apart.
Stringent Quality Control
The pride in craftsmanship is evident in Carhartt's manufacturing facilities as well. Genuine quality control is enforced, with numerous inspection points along the production line. Skilled sewers and workers carefully assemble each garment, ensuring perfection in every stitch. You won't find any hurried, sloppy piecework here.
Their casualwear like hoodies, flannel shirts, and jeans are built like tanks with uncompromised quality, compared to much of what's available in department stores. This commitment to premium construction has earned Carhartt immense loyalty from everyone - from oil riggers to streetwear aficionados.
The People Have Been Speaking
Just look at any veteran contractor, farmer or tradesman's well-worn Carhartt apparel. Faded from years in the sun, patched from heavy use, stained with the marks of a hectic day's work - yet still going strong with no signs of quitting. Each frayed edge and scuffed fabric panel are testaments to how the garments can withstand abuse.
So if you are looking into Carhartt blank apparel, you can count on Carhartt's workmanship and quality. Their apparel is quite simply designed to work as hard as you do, no matter what you throw at it. Explore the wholesale Carhartt apparel catalog in ShirtsBargain to get the finest from the brand at incredible value and volume discounts, along with optional, professional-grade decoration services.

Booz Allen to Pay $377.45M to Settle False Claims Allegations
Booz Allen Agrees to Pay $377.45 Million to Settle False Claims Act Allegations. McLean, VA (STL.News) Booz Allen Hamilton Holding Corporation has agreed to pay the United States $377,453,150 to resolve allegations that it violated the False Claims Act by improperly billing commercial and international costs to its government contracts. Booz Allen, which is headquartered in McLean, Virginia, provides a range of management, consulting, and engineering services to the government, as well as commercial and international customers. Under government contracting rules, there must be a nexus between the costs charged to a government contract and the objective of the contract. Thus, a contractor may charge government contract costs directly related to that contract, as well as indirect costs that benefit multiple contracts, including the government contract. A contractor may not charge costs to a government contract, however, that have no relationship to that contract. This prohibition prevents government contractors from using taxpayer funds to subsidize non-government-related work. The settlement announced today resolves allegations that from approximately 2011 to 2021, Booz Allen improperly charged costs to its government contracts and subcontracts that instead should have been billed to its commercial and international contracts. In particular, the government alleged that Booz Allen improperly allocated indirect costs associated with its commercial and international business to its government contracts and subcontracts that either had no relationship to those contracts and subcontracts or were allocated to those contracts and subcontracts in disproportionate amounts. The government further alleged that Booz Allen failed to disclose to the government the methods by which it accounted for costs supporting its commercial and international businesses. As a result, Booz Allen obtained reimbursement from the government for the costs of commercial activities that provided no benefit to the United States. “Government contractors must turn square corners when billing the government for costs under government contracts,” said Principal Deputy Assistant Attorney General Brian M. Boynton, head of the Justice Department’s Civil Division. “Today’s settlement demonstrates our commitment to hold accountable contractors that knowingly overcharge the government and enrich themselves at the expense of the American taxpayers.” “This settlement, which is one of the largest procurement fraud settlements in history, demonstrates that the United States will pursue even the largest companies and the most complex matters where taxpayer funds are alleged to have been pilfered,” said US Attorney Matthew M. Graves for the District of Columbia. “The Justice Department is committed to ferreting out all fraud, waste, and abuse in government programs — small or large, simple or complex.” "The Defense Contract Audit Agency (DCAA) appreciates the opportunity to support the Justice Department and our law enforcement partners by providing expert financial assistance regarding enforcement of the False Claims Act," said Director Terri Dilly of the DCAA. "This interagency cooperation provides a strong safeguard for appropriate use of taxpayer dollars." The settlement resolved a lawsuit filed under the qui tam or whistleblower provision of the False Claims Act, which permits private parties to file suit on behalf of the United States for false claims and share in a portion of the Government’s recovery. The qui tam lawsuit was filed by Sarah Feinberg, a former Booz Allen employee, and is captioned United States ex rel. Feinberg, v. Booz Allen Hamilton, Inc., Civ. A. No. 16-1911 (DDC). Ms. Feinberg will receive $69,828,832 in connection with the settlement. The resolution obtained in this matter was the result of a coordinated effort between the Civil Division’s Commercial Litigation Branch, Fraud Section, the US Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia, the Defense Contract Management Agency’s Contract Integrity Center, and the DCAA’s Operations Investigative Support Division, with assistance by agents from the Defense Criminal Investigative Service and FBI, and Inspector Generals from the Central Intelligence Agency, National Security Agency, U.S. Postal Service, US Army, US Air Force, National Reconnaissance Office, Department of Homeland Security, and National Geospatial Intelligence Agency. This matter was handled by attorneys Dan Schiffer and Chris Reimer of the Civil Division and Assistant US Attorney Brian Hudak for the District of Columbia, with assistance from DCAA's Operations Investigative Support Division, in particular DCAA Auditors Igor Yegoroff, Myron Antoniw, and Tim Chase. The claims resolved by this settlement are allegations only. There has been no determination of liability. SOUCE: U.S. Departent of Justice Read the full article

“WANTS BOARD TO SPEED UP PLANS TO GIVE RELIEF,” Hamilton Spectator. December 15, 1930. Page 7 & 22. --- Joint Deputation Urges Immediate Action ---- Aid is Sought For Building Trades Here --- Equipment Tenders Will Cause Some Delay ---- In the hope of speeding a start on civic projects under contemplation, representatives of the Canadian Construction association, local branch, the Building Trades association and the Hamilton Architects' association waited on the board of control this morning.
Through Ernest.Kent. secretary: W. P. Yates and Herbert Frid, members of the first mentioned organization, it was explained that there was a general desire on the part of all concerned to promote activities along building lines. In order to alleviate unemployment conditions. Support of their contention was offered by George T. Evans, representing the Ontario Architects’ association, and by Reginald Jackson, representing the building trades.
One of the suggestions offered was that architects be appointed immediately to prepare the plans for the new Mountain hospital building, the incinerator plant, and the filtration plant. With reference to the first job, it was stated that a greater distribution of the work would result by calling for separate contracts on each of the five buildings which are to be added. By adopting such a plan architects and their staff world benefit, and with the possibility of several different contractors getting a slice of the work. greater body of tradesmen could be employed. What was stressed more than anything was the need to get the jobs under way with minimum of delay.
Rotary System The discussion brought up the question of introduction of a rotary system of employing tradesmen. When Mayor Peebles asked as to the feasibility of such a scheme, the contractors at first demurred, but, eventually, they agreed it might be worked on an alternate week plan, providing they were allowed to keep 15 per cent of their regular staffs or key men, steadily employed. Mr. Yates said that an experiment tried out at Toronto proved a decided failure. but the arrangement there was for three-day shifts. Mr. Kent intimated that the contracters were prepared to employ double the number of men who ordinarily would be on the payrolls.
Mr. Evans said the architects of the city were prepared to assist each other in getting out plans, and he could guarantee that plans for either the incinerator plant or the filtration plant could be prepared within 30 days.
Mr. Jackson, strongly supported the idea of distributing the contracts for the buildings. but Mr. Yates had contrary views, his contention being that there would be considerable additional overhead to be figured on and that with the contract going to to one general contractor, all buildings could be proceeded with at the same time.
Called on to explain the sittuation with respect to the filtraties and incinerator plants, City Engineer McFaul stated that neither of these buildings can be proceeded with before the contract is left for the mechanical equipment. It was around the equipment the plans of the two buildings had to figured. Tenders for the equipment would be called for in two weeks, he said. and by the time the contracts were awarded it would be January 21, after which, contracts for the buildings would be called. It would be the middle of February or March 1 before actual work on the buildings could be started.
From the trend of Mr. McFaul’s remarks, it appeared that it is the intention of his department to prepare the plans for the two plants. Mayor Peebles, as a matter of fact, advised the deputation that considerable effort had already been devoted to the filtration plant plans and that these were dropped tempararity in order to hurry along the relief work.
Later, W. P. Witton was officially named by the board an architect on the hospital buildings. He will confer with the board on Thursday for instructions.
