Cirque du Soleil alumnus and TED speaker Martin Villeneuve is a Montreal-based screenwriter, director, actor and producer. With a strong background in advertising, he has directed numerous commercials for Cirque du Soleil, in addition to music videos, short films and series. His feature film debut, the pioneering sci-fi romance “Mars & April,” starring Caroline Dhavernas (“Hannibal”) and internationally renowned stage director Robert Lepage, cost only a stunning $2.3 million CAD to produce. The film received 10 nominations including one for “Best Adapted Screenplay” at the Canadian Screen Awards, and toured in 20 festivals worldwide, starting with a World Premiere in Karlovy Vary. “Mars & April” has been described by io9 as “one of the most beautiful, and immersive, sci-fi worlds ever put on film.” Also, it brought Martin to TED where he became the first (and so far, the only) speaker to come out of Quebec, and the third filmmaker to give a TED Talk after James Cameron and J.J. Abrams. His talk has been subtitled in 33 languages and viewed more than a million times. In 2014, he won an award for his performance in his short film “Imelda”, for which he shot two sequels released in 2020. His second feature film, “The 12 Tasks of Imelda” – starring Robert Lepage, Ginette Reno, Michel Barrette, Lynda Beaulieu, Antoine Bertrand, Marc-François Blondin, Anne-Marie Cadieux and Yves Jacques – had its world premiere at the QCFF, and hit theaters across Quebec on October 28th, 2022. C’EST LE CŒUR QUI MEURT EN DERNIER (bande-annonce)

Réalisé par Alexis Durand Brault, écrit par Gabriel Sabourin et produit par Richard Lalonde, C’est le coeur qui meurt en dernier est une adaptation du roman éponyme de Robert Lalonde. Le film met en vedette Denise Filiatrault, Gabriel Sabourin, Paul Doucet, Geneviève Rioux, Céline Bonnier et Sophie Lorain.

Synopsis

De job en job, à 47 ans, Julien vivote encore, éternel mésadapté. Mais voilà qu’il vient de publier un récit autobiographique relatant ses souvenirs et sa relation particulière avec sa mère. Révélations troublantes d’une vie familiale où ont pesé de lourds secrets. Et ce roman «C’est le cœur qui meurt en dernier» connait un grand succès.

Sa mère, avec qui il a, depuis des années, coupé les ponts, prisonnière d’une Villa Soleil, ignore encore que son fils ait pu oser raconter l’impensable dans son livre. Sans savoir, elle va chercher à le revoir, renouer contact, racheter le temps perdu, et lui demander de l’aider à «lever le flye», à «achever», ne se doutant pas qu’elle fera ainsi revivre les souvenirs enfouis.

1. Description des images et de la trame sonore

La vidéo commence avec le chiffre 1. Des nuages passent en arrière au même moment. Ensuite, le chiffre explose et d’autres images en noir et blanc apparaissent. Celles-ci sont des vitres brisées et des astres qui apparaissent en noir et blanc (probablement la lune et le soleil). La vidéo est presque entièrement composée d’élément contenant des teintes de gris et du noir et blanc. Le fond contient des nuages presque dans la totalité de la vidéo. Nous pouvons aussi voir la présence de petits appareils qui font des bruits d’horloge. Certains nuages passent devant ces appareils pendant un bref instant. Les nuages du début de la vidéo avaient l’air irréels (faites au dessin ou à l’ordinateur), alors que celles qui occupaient le fond de la deuxième partie de la vidéo avaient l’air réels ( filmés).

Pour ce qui est de la trame sonore, il n’y avait pas vraiment de musique de fond. La trame sonore était principalement composée de bruits et de sons quelconques, mais qui respectaient un certain thème que je décrirai plus tard dans mon texte. Tout commence avec un son qui ressemble à celui du vent qui souffle à l’extérieur, un son qui reste présent pendant toute la durée de la vidéo. Lorsque le chiffre 1 apparait, il y a un son qui ressemble à celui que nous associons à un décompte.  Ensuite, le vidéo dérapage enchaine avec le bruit d’horloge qui reste présent pendant le reste de la vidéo. La trame sonore n’est pas du tout complexe, puisqu’elle ne contient pas vraiment de musique, elle contient des sons et des bruits qui se rallient à un thème précis.

Quel est le concept?

Je crois que le concept était de faire une vidéo sur la météo, mais plus précisément sur le vent. Justement, puisque le son du vent est si présent dans la vidéo, il est bien évident qu’il en est le thème principal. Les petits appareils qui faisaient le bruit d’horloge bougeaient au rythme du vent, ce qui pourrait nous permettre de penser que ceux-ci sont en fait des appareils météorologiques, mais malheureusement, je ne suis pas familier à ces instruments. Nous pouvons faire un lien entre la vidéo et l’aspect environnemental, car nous voyons clairement que la nature y est très présente avec le vent et les nuages.

Appréciation

Même si la vidéo n’était pas vraiment complexe et qu’il n’y avait pas beaucoup d’éléments qui s’y retrouvaient, je l’apprécie tout de même puisque le concept du vent est intéressant. L’auteur fait vraiment allusion à ce concept pendant toute la durée de la vidéo et je trouvais cela particulièrement intrigant. Cependant, si cette vidéo durait plus longtemps, elle serait plus facile à apprécier.
