Are You Afraid Of The Dark (Luke x FemReader)

Summary:  This isn’t how you imagined your Halloween night panning out.  You thought you would just have a little ‘fun’, while spooking the ever-living shit out of your poor scaredy cat.  Instead things have changed…in a ghoulishly delightful sort of way.

"Morning, sweetie," Taylor greets you as you enter the kitchen. She’s standing at the stove, flipping pancakes like a pro. "You sleep well?"

"Morning, Mom," you say, wrapping your arms around her in a warm hug. "I did, thanks. What’s on the agenda today?"

Taylor turns to you with a smile, her blue eyes twinkling with a mixture of love and excitement. "Well, I’ve got some work to do, but I thought you might like to spend the day with Blake and the kids. They’ve been asking about you."

Your heart skips a beat at the thought. Blake Lively had always been like a second mom to you. She was warm, funny, and had this way of making you feel like you were the most important person in the world whenever you were around her. Plus, spending time with her Jaymes, Inez, and Betty was always a blast.

"I’d love that!" you exclaim, grabbing a pancake off the stack Taylor had just finished. "Are they expecting me?"

"Blake’s excited to see you. She said Ryan’s been on his best behavior too—well, as best as he can manage," Taylor adds with a laugh.

You chuckle at the mention of Ryan. He was always the life of the party, with his sarcastic humor and endless jokes. The thought of spending the day with him and Blake was enough to get you bouncing on your toes with excitement.

Taylor smiled, happy to see you so eager. "Good. I’ll drop you off on my way to the studio. Go get ready."

You hurried back upstairs, quickly throwing on a comfortable outfit—something that could handle the inevitable roughhousing that came with spending time with the Reynolds kids. You glanced at yourself in the mirror, running a brush through your hair before giving yourself a nod of approval. Ready.

Back downstairs, Taylor was already by the door, car keys in hand. "Let’s go, kiddo."

The drive to Blake and Ryan’s place wasn’t long, and Taylor chatted about her plans for the day. Even though she was your mom and, to the outside world, this larger-than-life superstar, she never made you feel overshadowed. She was just your mom, and you were her kid. As you pulled up to the Reynolds’ house, Taylor gave you a smile that made you feel warm all over.

"Have fun today, okay? Call me if you need anything."

"I will, Mom. Love you."

"Love you too, sweetie."

You hopped out of the car, waving as Taylor drove off. The front door to the Reynolds’ house opened before you even reached it, and Blake stepped out, a big grin on her face.

"There’s my favorite honorary child!" she exclaimed, pulling you into a tight hug. Blake’s hugs were legendary—warm, strong, and filled with so much affection that you felt like you could stay wrapped up in them forever.

"Hi, Blake!" you said, squeezing her back. "I’ve missed you!"

"We’ve missed you too! The kids have been bouncing off the walls since they found out you were coming over." She released you from the hug but kept a comforting hand on your shoulder as she led you inside. The house smelled like home—something sweet baking in the oven, and the familiar scent of the Reynolds' family life.

As soon as you walked in, chaos ensued. James, the eldest of the Reynolds kids, barreled toward you with the energy of a freight train, nearly knocking you over as she threw her arms around you. Inez was right behind her, tugging on your hand, demanding your attention, while little Betty hung back shyly, her eyes wide with excitement.

"Y/N!" Jaymes shouted, pulling you toward the living room. "Come play with us! We were just about to start a game!"

You barely had time to say hello before being dragged into the whirlwind that was the Reynolds’ household. Blake laughed, shaking her head as she watched her kids swarm around you. "Looks like you’re going to be busy for a while."

You grinned at her, already feeling at home. "Wouldn’t have it any other way."

The next few hours flew by in a blur of laughter, games, and snacks. The kids were relentless, but you loved every second of it. You played hide and seek, built pillow forts, and even had a dance party in the living room. Jaymes was the self-proclaimed DJ, picking out Taylor’s songs to dance to, which made you feel even more at home.

Eventually, Blake joined in, dancing and laughing alongside you and the kids. Her energy was contagious, and it wasn’t long before you were all collapsed on the couch, out of breath but still smiling.

It was then that Ryan made his grand entrance, sauntering into the room with an exaggerated swagger. "Well, well, well, if it isn’t my favorite unpaid babysitter," he quipped, winking at you.

"Nice to see you too, Ryan," you shot back, rolling your eyes with a grin. Ryan was always full of jokes, but you loved his sense of humor.

He flopped down on the couch next to Blake, who was still catching her breath from the impromptu dance party. "So, what’s on the agenda for the rest of the day? Scaring off potential boyfriends? Pranking Blake? Or my personal favorite—getting the kids to gang up on you in a water balloon fight?"

"Hey!" Blake protested, giving Ryan a playful shove. "No water balloons in the house!"

Ryan feigned shock, putting a hand to his chest. "Who said anything about inside the house? That’s what the yard is for!"

You laughed, shaking your head at their banter. "I think I’m good with whatever you’ve got planned, as long as I get to hang out with you guys."

Ryan raised an eyebrow. "Careful what you wish for, kiddo."

The rest of the day was a perfect mix of chaos and calm. You spent hours playing with the kids, who adored you like an older sibling.

Later in the afternoon, Blake suggested making cookies, and you found yourself in the kitchen, surrounded by flour, chocolate chips, and three very eager little helpers. Ryan insisted on wearing an apron that read "Kiss the Cook," despite Blake’s eye roll, and took charge of taste-testing the cookie dough.

"Isn’t it supposed to go on the baking sheet?" you teased as Ryan popped another spoonful of dough into his mouth.

He gave you a mock serious look. "I’m just making sure it’s safe for the kids to eat. It’s a public service, really."

Blake snorted, shaking her head as she helped Betty measure out sugar. "Sure, and I’m the Queen of England."

"Your Majesty," Ryan said with a bow, earning a giggle from Betty and a playful smack from Blake.

Once the cookies were in the oven, you all gathered around the kitchen island, munching on the leftover dough and talking about everything and nothing. It was easy, being here with them. It felt like family.

Blake must have noticed the content look on your face because she reached over and squeezed your hand. "You know you’re always welcome here, right? You’re part of this crazy family too."

You smiled at her, warmth blossoming in your chest. "Thanks, Blake. That means a lot."

Ryan chimed in, a grin on his face. "Yeah, and if Taylor ever gets tired of you, you’ve got a spot here. Though fair warning, we’ll put you to work."

"Good thing I’m used to it," you joked, and everyone laughed.

As the afternoon turned into evening, the chaos of the day slowly wound down. After dinner, which was filled with more laughter and Ryan’s terrible dad jokes, the kids started to get sleepy. You helped Blake get them ready for bed, reading them stories and tucking them in.

When you finally made your way back downstairs, you found Ryan and Blake sitting together on the couch, looking relaxed and content. Ryan glanced up as you entered, patting the space next to him. "Come join us. We’re about to put on a movie that’s probably too old for the kids but perfect for us."

You settled in between them, feeling a sense of belonging that made your heart swell. As the movie played, you found yourself leaning against Blake, her arm draped around your shoulders. Ryan kept up his usual commentary, making snarky remarks about the movie that had you both in stitches.

It was late when the movie ended, but none of you seemed in a hurry to move. Blake sighed contentedly, giving you a gentle squeeze. "I’m so glad you came over today, Y/N. It’s been a while since we’ve all had a day like this."

"Me too," you agreed, stifling a yawn. "Thanks for letting me crash here."

"Crash anytime," Ryan said, his voice softening from its usual playful tone. "Seriously, kid, you’re always welcome."

You nodded, feeling your eyelids grow heavy. It wasn’t long before you were dozing off, nestled between Blake and Ryan, who exchanged a fond look over your head.

When you woke up the next morning, you found yourself tucked into the guest bed, the morning light streaming in through the window. You stretched, a smile tugging at your lips as you remembered the day before. It had been perfect—a day filled with love, laughter, and the comfort of knowing you had another family who cared about you just as much as your own.

As you made your way downstairs, you heard the familiar sounds of breakfast being made. Blake was at the stove, flipping pancakes much like Taylor had been yesterday morning, while Ryan was trying—and failing—to keep the kids from sneaking bites of bacon off the plate.

"Morning, sleepyhead," Blake greeted you with a warm smile. "How’d you sleep?"

"Like a rock," you admitted, grabbing a piece of bacon despite Ryan’s mock protest. "Thanks for letting me stay over."

"Anytime," Blake said, handing you a plate of pancakes. "Now, dig in. We’ve got a big day ahead."

You raised an eyebrow, intrigued. "What’s the plan?"

Ryan grinned, winking at you. "Let’s just say it involves a lot of fun and possibly a little bit of trouble."

You laughed, knowing that whatever they had planned, it was going to be another day to remember. As you sat down at the table, surrounded by the Reynolds family, you couldn’t help but feel incredibly lucky. You had a mom who loved you, and you had this amazing extended family who made you feel like you belonged.

And as you looked around the table,

you knew that no matter where life took you, you’d always have a home here—with Taylor, with Blake and Ryan, and with these wonderful, chaotic kids who adored you as much as you adored them.

You spent the rest of the day exactly as Ryan had promised—having fun and getting into just the right amount of trouble. There were more games, more laughter, and even a surprise trip to the park, where Ryan insisted on showing off his "superior" playground skills, only to be outdone by James in a race to the top of the monkey bars.

Blake captured it all on her phone, sending the videos to Taylor, who replied with laughing emojis and messages about how much she wished she could join in. You knew she was busy, but it still made you feel warm inside to know she was thinking about you.

As the day wound down, and it was time for you to head back home, Blake and Ryan walked you to the door, the kids trailing behind with reluctant goodbyes.

"Come back soon, okay?" Blake said, pulling you into one last hug.

"Promise," you replied, hugging her tightly. "Thanks for everything."

Ryan ruffled your hair as you turned to him. "Take care, kiddo. And remember, if you ever need to escape, our door’s always open."

You smiled, nodding. "I’ll remember."

With one last wave to the kids, you headed out the door and into the car where Taylor was waiting. As you drove away, you glanced back at the house, feeling a pang of bittersweet emotion. You’d miss them, but you knew you’d be back soon.

Taylor reached over and squeezed your hand, her eyes on the road ahead. "Have a good time?"

"The best," you said, leaning back in your seat. "Thanks for letting me go, Mom."

"Of course, sweetie. I’m glad you had fun."

You smiled, closing your eyes as the car hummed softly beneath you. You were lucky, you realized—not just for the amazing day you’d had, but for the people in your life who made every day special. As you drove away, you knew that no matter what, you were surrounded by love.

Bakugou Katsuki

I feel like Katsuki would be the type to be openly worried about you, one of the only times he'd show an emotion other than anger in public. He would know exactly what to do simply from observing what previously cheered you up in the past!

~ Katsuki returns home to the apartment you share, only to see you sat cuddled up on the couch crying. ~ Immediately worried something bad had happened, Katsuki begins looking around your home for intruders or something that was out of place. ~ When he finds nothing, he races over to you. ~ "Teddy Bear," He whispered, kneeling on the floor in front of you, "What happened, are you okay?" He was racing through his words, worried you were hurt. ~ Since UA, Katsuki had to get used to the idea of being more quiet around you, sometimes being too quiet so he doesn't upset you further. It was a difficult change, but one he was willing to make. ~ Still weeping, you held up your favourite book, mumbling through your words, something about a character dying, or was it about a couple finally being canon, or maybe just a character you thought was cute? ~ Sighing to himself, Katsuki made himself comfortable in the blankets next to you, holding you close as you cried, knowing to just let you do your own thing whilst cuddling you. ~ "This happens too often dumbass." He tells you fondly, as he picks up the phone to order food in, knowing you won't let him leave you for any reason.

Izuku Midoriya

If you were upset, Izuku would 100% go into overdrive, first, completely wracked with worry, but then his hero brain would take over, he would calm down, assess the situation and make sure that you're okay!

~ Snuggled up on the couch with Izuku was one of the greatest gifts that you had been given. ~ Even though he got flustered relatively easily, there was one thing he was perfectly comfortable with, something he had sought out since high school, even now that he was a pro hero. ~ Cuddles. ~ Whether he was the big spoon or the little spoon, you know just how much he loves cuddling with you, he tells you so as he whines as you stand up to cook the two of you dinner. ~ Smiling and humming to yourself as you cook, you hardly notice just how hot the stove was getting until you grabbed the metal handle of the pan and flinched, pulling away and letting out a small yelp of pain. ~ Izuku, hearing your voice, shot from his seat on the couch and into the kitchen faster than a freight train. ~ Seeing you holding your hand to your chest, small tears in the corners of your eyes, he began running the cold water, gently grabbing your wrist. ~ After keeping your hand under the water for ten minutes or so and noticing there was no redness or blisters, he held your hand in both of his larger ones, kissing each of your fingers. ~ "You need to be more careful Puppy."

Shoto Todoroki

Shoto was always stoic, but I feel like when you're upset or need the comfort, he'd be even more so. He knows you need a rock, someone to lean on, he could absolutely be that person, even if he wasn't all that good at noticing social cues, he knew when his partner was upset.

~ When it came to you, Shoto was more serious than ever. ~ Especially when you were hurt or upset. ~ It just so happens, that today was one of those days, you had gotten a call from the hospital that a close relative of yours had been in an accident. ~ When you had called Shoto in tears, he knew something was wrong and was already leaving his agency when you told him what had happened. ~ Whilst he was thankful that you weren't the one that was hurt or in any danger, he knew you weren't okay and rushed home to take care of you. ~ Shoto wasn't much for PDA, but when the two of you were behind closed doors, he usually couldn't get enough, loving your fingers running through his bi-coloured hair, or resting his head on your chest and listening to your heartbeat. ~ But he knew that you needed to be loved more than himself right now, he held you close, stroking your hair and keeping your head close to his chest as he tried to calm you down. ~ "It's alright my love, I'll always be here."

Eijiro Kirishima

I feel like depending on the situation, Eiji would have to choose between being there for you and just joining in the sob fest! He's an emotional baby and sometimes, the best comfort is knowing that you're not going through it alone!

~ We all know that Eijiro is just the most cheerful and sweetest shark boy that has ever lived. ~ Which means that when you're upset, he'll probably get upset too. ~ When he came home and saw you watching one of your favourite shows (a show that you had watched to completion a dozen times) and eating ice cream from the carton, he knew what he was in for. ~ Even though he may not know the show, or might not be into it, he will still grab a spoon from the kitchen and join you on the couch. ~ When Katsuki called him an hour later, asking where he had gotten to, all he heard was the muffled tears of Eijiro and his partner. ~ "That was so manly!" He cried, watching the main character save his lover. ~ "I promise you Gumdrop, I will save you like that someday." ~ Realising that that would make you in danger, he quickly revoked that sentence and came up with something to cheer you up. ~ "From the dreaded housework that you hate so much!" He cheered, wiping his tears, picking you up bridal style and dancing around the room.

Denki Kaminari

Denki was an absolute mess when you were upset, he had no idea what he was doing! But usually you found it cute! He would definitely try the things that would make him cheer up before asking Mina what to do...

~ Denki would have worked quickly in the relationship, you were no longer just a couple living together, you were engaged. ~ And Denki STILL didn't know how to comfort you without making it worse. ~ Whether you hurt yourself, were too worried about him or just upset for the sake of being upset, (many people are, it's okay!) Denki would tip-toe around you, trying to make it better. ~ Eventually he would make it up to you, but until then, just picture the blonde dunce trying to hug you or stroke your hair, only to back down when you moved slightly or sniffed. [Bonus: I can also see him accidentally hurting you trying to fix something. Like, he tries to dry your tears, only to poke you in the eye.] ~ You think it's adorable that he is trying not to make it worse but is failing spectacularly, this usually cheers you up. ~ And when he finally gets the dumb idea to buy you the biggest teddy bear he could find, a grin lifts onto your face and in turn, his as well. ~ The amount of stuffed animals you now have in your shared apartment is ridiculous, as every time you get upset, he dances on eggshells around you until he caves and buys you a giant cuddly toy. ~ "Sorry I'm a bit bad at this darlin', I'm sure I'll get better… Eventually!"

Hitoshi Shinso

Primarily, the only things that Hitoshi would have to comfort you for, are things that he's done... Something that he knew you'd get mad at him for, but would do anyway...

~ You and Hitoshi are the perfect couple in everyone's eyes. ~ But it isn't always easy. ~ Whether its a stupid argument about who left the the lights on, or maybe you're worried about him and his job and when you shout about it he rolls his eyes at your 'needless worry'. ~ If you're wondering why that second example was so specific, it's because that's exactly what happened. ~ Hitoshi had gotten himself hurt whilst he was out fighting a villain on patrol, he didn't have any back up but went ahead with the fight anyway. ~ When he came home, he knew there would be a fight from you. And he was right. ~ You were furious that he had intentionally put himself in harm's way. Even if he was a hero, there was a difference between being a hero and being an idiot, even if he didn't see it. ~ After the shouting would stop, you would stop talking to him entirely, realising it was all going over his head and he wasn't listening. You stormed off to the bedroom to lie down and cry. ~ Hitoshi would give you some time to calm down, which killed him. ~ Knowing you were upset and that he had caused it hurt him deeply and as much as he wanted to run to you, he knew there was no point until you had calmed down. ~ After ten minutes or so, he couldn't stand it anymore and jogged to the bedroom, he lay down behind you and wrapped his arms around you, pulling you close to his chest and squeezing slightly. ~ "I'm so sorry Kitten, I promise I won't do it again."

And Touya laughing when the Pros look to him, "You volunteered for this, they found me, I was stuck with them. You dumbasses picked them up with a fucking bear trap, what did you expect?" fully ignoring the fact that he's the only one they listen to and that he has (and will continue to) risk prison for all of them.

Trains Suck in the USA

So, in America, our inter-city/interstate train service SUCKS. I’m sure individual cities run well enough, but I am not talking about those. I am talking about the trains that go from sea to shining sea.

Let’s start with the first issue:

Amtrak.

They are, and always have been, a notoriously awful. They either need to be dissolved (which is my preference) or overhauled by breaking them into regional pieces. E.G. Amtrak East, Amtrak West etc. I suggest breaking them to bitty bits because maybe if it were smaller, those in charge would be able to get something done. They’d all still answer to a centralized office and tickets would be good cross sectors but the trains themselves would be under the purview of each segmented office. It could also promote friendly competition by seeing which section can ACTUALLY MAKE SURE THEIR DAMN TRAINS ARRIVE ON TIME.

Issue 2: Rails to Trails.

We need to stop that shit NOW. “Why don’t we have rail service to XYZ?” because we ripped up our train tracks for walking trails. You want trains to be a good contender for public transit, that initiative (should it still be in existence) needs to go. I’m not saying walking trails also need to go. Far from it. Make more of those WITHOUT ripping up the train tracks.

Issue 3: The Freight Companies OWN the rails.

 In my trip across the US from Eastern Seaboard to the South West, the train I was on had to stop because the freight trains have right-of-way, because the freight companies own the damn rails.

The only solution I see here is going back to what we used to do: It was all ONE train. No Passenger or Freight only. MIX THEM. Have passenger cars mixed in with non-volatile freight.

Your chemical and oil trains can stay on their own, thank you very much. The only liquids that should be mixed in with people are ones we can safely drink (as all liquids are drinkable at least once).

Issue 4: The USA is DAMN big

I often see it brought up by pro-train proponents that about how some countries, like France or Japan, have good rail service.

Yeah and France is around the size of Texas and Japan is similar in area to West Virginia. It’s easy to have good rail service when your country DOESN’T span across a major landmass and you can put a country’s worth of effort for rails in that smaller space. Hence when in my Amtrak section, I suggested breaking it into bits.

It wasn’t just because Amtrak is awful, it was the fact we have a rather large landmass here in the USA.

As for fixing that issue (aside from breaking up Amtrak) I think that there’s the sticking point. We can’t shrink North America (even if some days it’s fun to joke about slicing off Florida or just waiting for the Big One to knock California into the sea).

It would take a large investment to do this and it would have to be a proper investment not some political garbage of “I’m going to give this place in the middle of nowhere a brand new monorail to....this rock!”

No. It has to be actual, focused on the train service between the states and cities and nothing else. Maybe a train refresh. Maybe a renegotiation with the Freight companies.

Make the rails a proper alternative to the roads.

This will mean that it can’t necessarily be a “green” revitalization. It just needs to be done, without gimmicks.

That’s why this won’t happen.

Politicians love to talk a big game but they lack the capacity of getting their heads out of their collective asses to care about what we on the ground need. They can never just get things done.

Can it be made environmentally friendly? I’m sure it could but that can’t be the end-all-be-all if you’re trying to get the trains more efficient in the here and now. Just focus on making interstate travel by train not suck first and worry about the planet later. Earth could kill us any time she likes. Remember that.

Besides, efficient train service would still be a major eco win. Less cars going coast to coast (and with trains going more frequently, it might also help with shipping too and getting big rigs off the roads) and all that.

So, Tl;Dr—Trains suck because Amtrak sucks, we ripped up our rails, freight companies own what’s left, and the USA is damn big.

The way to fix this would be to focus on making trains viable alternatives first and worrying about the planet later.

I’m writing this on Sunday afternoon. I went to Mass this morning. I had a nice chat with God. He says “hello” to all of you.

After a while, our conversation turned to Trump. God reads this blog.

Ever since July 13th, Trump has been claiming that God intervened to save his life during the assassination attempt in Pennsylvania. I asked God about the alleged intervention. God giggled. I couldn’t discern the message behind the giggle. Was God laughing about the absurdity of Trump’s claim, or was God amused by the fact that Trump was forced to acknowledge the power of God? Only God knows the meaning of that giggle.

Anyway, Trump was thrilled with the failed assassination attempt. He got up off the ground to pose for the iconic picture of blood streaming down his face as he pumped his fist in the air. Trump’s supporters rallied around their martyr. Trump jumped in the polls. Right after the failed assassination (which was shortly after Biden’s horrible debate), all of the political pundits said that the election was over. From July 15th to 18th, Trump was hailed at the Republican Convention. The enthusiasm surrounding Trump was high, and he seemed to be a “shoo-in” for a second term. It looked like he would smoothly sail to victory.

Three days after the Republican Convention, on July 21st, everything changed. Biden dropped out of the race, and he endorsed Kamala Harris. She took off like a wildfire. She has energized both the pro-freedom movement and the anti-Trump movement. In only 7 days, she has raised over $200 million (67% of it from new donors) and she has attracted more than 150,000 new volunteers. She’s barrelling towards Election Day like a runaway freight train. Instead of facing an old man, Trump is now facing a young Black Baptist who knows how to preach. She’s been preaching about freedom, justice, equality for all, feeding the poor, caring for the homeless, educating everyone, providing health care to all, protecting the weak, healing our divisions, and bringing love back to America. Nobody is talking about Trump anymore. All of the talk is about Kamala. Folks are saying that she has the stuff to beat Trump. We’ll see.

I asked God if he threw this curveball at Trump. I asked if He had a hand in these extremely unusual events that have changed the presidential race overnight and launched Kamala like a moonshot. God responded with a big belly laugh. This time the message was clear. God was messing with Trump. Maybe God doesn’t like that Trump keeps claiming that he was saved by the hand of God. Maybe God is annoyed that Trump and his supporters regularly claim that Trump is the candidate who was sent by God. Maybe it has something to do with “the first shall be last and the last shall be first.” Once again, only God knows. All I know is that God thinks the whole Kamala thing is very, very funny.

I’m confident that God doesn’t give a hoot about who wins the election. God is happy to let his children make their choice. I’m also confident that God has a sense of humor, and that he enjoys some mischievousness. It’s 100 days until Election Day. It should be interesting. Are there more unusual events to come?
