I keep searching through fics on AO3 by word count and half the time it’s just Kinktober fics and that is not what I want I want something that’s comparable fiction to novels that are considered literary works of art!1!1!1! In other words, I’m picky. If you are too this may just be the list for you. Enjoy 😛😛

1. Concorde, Anonymous, AO3 (must be a member to read), 176k words

What if Adam was removed from the Parrish household at age 10? And what if he became the ward of a certain dreamer?

This fic had me in a CHOKEHOLD genuinely killed me and revived me. If you enjoy novels that are time jumpy and show rather than tell than this fic is for you. It’s confusing in the fun literary type of way and it is so well crafted and well articulated. I am a huge huge fan.

2. Magnetic by MonsieurBlueSky, AO3 (must be a member to read), 231k words

“an AU in which Ronan never befriended Gansey and after the death of Niall Lynch, Gansey isn't there to pull Ronan back from the edge. Kavinsky is there instead, ready to push him over.”

ABSOLUTELY AMAZING NO NOTES GENUINELY PHENOMENALLY EXECUTED I adore this fic and everything about it. The way the author is able to examine ronans relationships and how magic impacted them is just so so so lovely. I read this in one sitting and I sobbed for hours after finishing. Please read the tags, there is graphic depictions of suicide, self harm, substance abuse, domestic violence, etc. it’s all very canon typical but elaborated on.

3. Violent Delights (Violent Ends) by sunmoontruth, AO3, 200k words

Oh. My. God. Holy. Fucking. Shit. HUNGER GAMES AU. Genuinely such captivating writing, the story pulls bits and pieces from the original Hunger Games, but there is so much that is original and fresh that this fic becomes less of an AU and more of a stand alone work. And with everything going on in the world now, in America where I live, this more graphic adult version of the hunger games truly hits where it hurts. Phenomenal characterization, such an amazing adaptation. I am floored beyond belief.

4. (The Time It Takes) To Believe in Fate by LydiaStJames, AO3, 100k words

“When he was 16, Adam walked into a forest in Henrietta, Virginia and exited in 1800s Ireland. The day he spent with the grumpy but attractive farmer lingered with Adam for years, but the forest didn't seem like it would appear again. That is, until Adam returned to Henrietta for his father's funeral and the forest calls him back once more.

To Ronan.”

GOD SO GOOD SO WELL WRITTEN. I have re read this one too many times to count. It is beautiful. It’s also such an intriguing concept and such a unique and original AU that it feels so disconnected from the original canon in a way that makes it much more enticing. Like the characterization is spot on and it’s so cool to see how these characters react to such an odd set of circumstances relative to their original canon.

5. Seek Ye The Living by charactershoes, AO3 (must be a member to read), 40k words

Adam is a priest. Declan and Ashley are getting married. Ronan is having a faith crisis. What’s new.

6. Divinity by Cazio on AO3, 67k words

Magic can’t heal everything, especially when Ronan lacks the knowledge to dream a fix all. In other words, during his first semester at Harvard Adam gets sick. In true Adam fashion, he completely ignores it. But eventually it becomes too much for him to evade.

This fic is emotionally devastating. But, for some weird reason, it’s a comfort fic for me as someone who is chronically ill. It is a different type of illness and a much different type of circumstance but to see Ronans characterization when faced with something so devastating, and to see Adam get taken care of with such love. It means a lot when that is something I’m so deeply afraid I’ll never find. Please please please be aware of the tags and archive warnings.

For now these are my favorite long fics that are pynch centric but also just beautiful examples of literature that is so well written it feels like a disservice to label it fan fiction. I’ll update more as I read more!!

They do in TTSBC! If you read carefully you'll notice that all three of them go by the surname 'Slab' which is from Etho, of course! Doc also took his surname when they got married, so they're the Slab family! Hypno even calls Grian 'Professor Slab' when he's around!

I'm not planning to do all of Febuwhump this year, sadly I've just got to much going on, but I might pick up a couple of the prompts if I see any that really inspire me and perhaps the Mad King AU will be one of them! I was really curious how you would describe an evil Aladdin? I certainly took inspiration from the show, when they showed us a cartoonishly evil clone of Aladdin. But I'm also interested in other visions.

Oh man, I am a sucker for evil/alternate doppelgangers or counterparts, in case that wasn't already obvious with my ranting. I could talk about them all day if anyone let me! Had to take a few days to think about this one. 

Like you said, we have a few more “official” examples of an evil Aladdin already. Chaos's Aladdin is an jerk who beats people up for fun, and Shadow Aladdin is just evil for the sake of it.

And going off of non-Disney stuff, there's Aladdin from Twisted: The Untold Story of a Royal Vizier, who... yeah, that guy has issues.

As for my take on an evil Aladdin, it would obviously change depending on what kind of environment Aladdin was raised in. I love Aladdin as a character because he very clearly has flaws that make things difficult for both him and the people around him. He's athletic, intelligent and kind, but he's very insecure about how other people see him. A villainous Aladdin would probably be someone who ups the insecurities and acts out because of it, likely deciding that he was going to make people think better of him whether or not it's for a good reason. What would decide on the rest would be what influences he had growing up in his life.

While I can't remember it being made canon anywhere apart from the Broadway show and the original demos of the film, I personally headcanon that a lot of Aladdin's morality stems from his desire to make his mother happy. Whether she's alive or not, she seems to have been a major source of stability in Al's early life, so taking that away from him would have certainly twisted him in another direction.

Even then, while we see that young Aladdin still argues against Amal stealing jewels, Al does temporarily turn to stealing money as a teen/young adult when he's hired as a pickpocket by the traveling circus. He immediately relents against this, though, once he sees the grief caused by leaving people in the same state that he's in.

I think an Aladdin who grew up on the streets without a caring figure in his early life would probably be much more selfish and inconsiderate, taking without thinking to give anything in return. He may have be someone who wouldn't argue against stealing jewels and wouldn't care if his actions left people on the streets. ...Maybe it'd take a bit more to get him there, but I think it's a possibility for a villainous Aladdin.

And then there's concepts where he's had a very different upbringing, like if he were raised by his father and brought into the Forty Thieves. Cassim isn't an entirely villainous figure, but he's shown to not be the most considerate when it comes to the wellbeing of others. Perhaps a "Prince of Thieves" Aladdin would be more like his father, where he cares more his own wellbeing than for others but still heavily values the life of his family.

Your version and the version of @somethingstrangeisherehehe with the necromancer Aladdin could come out in a lot of ways, most likely from Aladdin being raised by Destane as Mozenrath was implied to have been. Considering how rough Destane was implied to have been and how Mozenrath turned out, that kind of Aladdin would not be anywhere near as kind as the Aladdin we know. That, and I imagine using the bodies of the dead as your tools probably takes a lot of compassion out of people.

I love thinking about all of this stuff. It's fascinating! I'm excited to see what else you guys do with your versions, if you decide to keep going with it!

List of headcanons (Aladdin fandom)

I want to make it clear right away that these headcanons should not be considered all together, they are not small parts of the big picture. Yes, some of them are related or derive from each other, but some contradict the rest, so it is better to consider each one separately.

Clarification: the list is not final, it will be constantly supplemented and expanded.

An important note: headcanons will be understandable to those who watched all three parts of the cartoon Aladdin, as well as the series, and also read articles in fandom wiki.

1. The favorite headcanon - is Aladdin, Mozenrath, Cassim - members of the same family. Mosenrath and Aladdin are brothers (completely or only on the line of one parent - no matter, I allow almost any variation).

2. Mozenrath has Asian roots.

3. Aladdin has whip scars on his arms and back from his time as a street thief.

4. In Agrabah about 20 years ago, there was an epidemic or post-war famine or economic decline and currency collapse. During that time period, many people lost relatives, including Aladdin lost his mother and Cassim was forced to leave Agrabah to earn some money.

5. Aladdin cannot write or read, and now he is learning how to do so. Until Aladdin is literate enough, he will not be allowed to be sultan.

6. Both Mozenrath and Cassim have mental trauma. Mozenrath from his childhood and adolescence, Cassim from the first time he killed a man and from the time he returned to Agrabah to his family but found neither his wife nor his son alive (or rather, he thought that no one had survived).

7. Cassim is a Tuareg (settled in Agrabah), or at least has Tuareg roots. A bunch of others follow from this headcanon, such as:

•Cassim knows the Tuareg language, Arabic is his second language.

•Cassim speaks with an accent, and sometimes mixes Arabic with his native language.

• Cassim’s marriage was not approved by his wife’s relatives.

• Cassim’s favorite color is blue, and he mostly wears blue clothes, he observes some Tuareg traditions, and abandoned some completely or partially to please the circumstances.

That's it, only 7 items so far, I'll be adding to it gradually

8. Mozenrath respects Jasmine deep down for her character and status.

9. Mozenrath has pierced ears and sometimes wears earrings.

10. Mozenrath tried to regain his hand with various spells... His bones were scratched with the texts of spells and conspiracies, which at least somehow slow down the process of further rotting of the remaining flesh.

11. Cassim has dissociative identity disorder. One of his personalities is psychopathic and truly enjoys criminal activities.

12. Cassim loves beautiful clothes, jewelry and various trinkets, but wears them extremely rarely in order to avoid laughter and jokes from the other people.

13. Cassim is very fond of horses (you remember he didn't want to fly on the carpet with Aladdin and he was also talked into going to Agrabah on horseback ). He has also participated in horse races several many times and still does. He also likes to do trick ringing.

Just a small update today

14. The oracle was brought to Aladdin's wedding by Mozenrath.

15. Mozenrath's skeletal hand has no feeling, which is why he became left-handed after wearing the glove.

it's time to remember about Iago:

16. Iago and Cassim became not just good adventure companions, but true friends. Iago feels much more comfortable in Cassim's campaign, since now no one shuts him up, condemns him, or turns him into anything, heh.

17. Iago doesn't particularly like to work, but he does a favor for his friend: after Cassim leaves Agrabah, Iago helps him exchange letters with his son.

18. Iago loves casinos and every time he persuades Cassim to go there. Every time they gamble, they cheat according to their usual pattern: Iago pretends that he is an ordinary and stupid parrot that a man brought with him for some reason, and at this time helps Cassim rig the cards or recognize his opponent's cards.

19. Mozenrath has long hair, but he braids it so that the length does not peek out from under his turban.
