New York is claiming that Trump has committed fraud, because his Mar-a-lago property in Florida is actually worth $70 million, and not $220 million. It might be in Palm Beach county's best interest to file a lawsuit against New York for making this claim.

Here's why: If NY is right, that means Palm Beach county has been massively overcharging Trump on his property taxes. Without getting into fluctuating tax rates, whether or not the property has been reappraised, or any applicable tax write offs, over the course of the 38 years that he's owned Mar-a-lago, Trump would've paid roughly $92,796,000.

If the property is actually worth $70 million like NY is claiming, that means he should've only been charged $29,526,000, and Palm Beach county owes him a $63,270,000 refund.

Ron Desantis is a dumbass full stop, he cares more about the culture war then actually doing things that improve the lives of people within Florida. The legislation would make it easier for financial crimes and trafficking to occur which is ironic given his staunch stance on drug crime. It's almost laughable how often Ron's legislation blows up in his face like when he cracked down of migrants causing the primary workers in agriculture to flee the state? The IRS is testing out a free on-line direct tax filing system meant to replace for low and medium tax payers commercial tax preparation software, like TurboTax.

TurboTax in particular has long lobbied against this, and helped kill it under the Trump administration. But in 2022 as part of the Inflation Reduction Act President Biden signed the IRS was tasked with developing this system which mirrors what many of America's peers, like Japan and Germany do for taxes.

2024 will park a pilot program to test the system in a few states before going nation wide hopefully in 2025, if you live in Florida, New Hampshire, Nevada, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Washington, Wyoming, Arizona, Massachusetts, California or New York you may qualify, so check!

Ok genuine thoughts on how free agency went today for the Canes:

Truthfully I'm not surprised by any of the players that left. Guentzel's end of season interviews were not indicative of a player liking the team he's on and wanting to stay (regardless of the hope I had), Teravainen's numbers were lacking, Pesce with his history of injuries + wanting too much, Noesen & Skjei also wanting too much, etc.

Necas is obviously still up in the air because he's not a UFA and could always go through arbitration, but I don't see that happening and think the Canes will find a way to trade him. Jarvis and Drury are guaranteed lock-ups, and I don't care what Coghlan does or doesn't do

Fact of the matter is that contracts are brutal and money will usually speak to a player far more than loyalty will. I'm obviously gonna miss the memories but I'll still support the Canes no matter what because they ARE my team and I'll love them forever ❤️❤️

For once, AOC is right: “They can’t afford to live here any more,” she said Monday of working-class Gothamites.

Thing is, it’s the policies that she and her progressive allies wants more of that have made the city so expensive.

Look at what occasioned the digital town hall where she spoke: recently announced cuts across city agencies.

Why are these needed?

To pay for the migrants AOC and her ilk demand we admit in infinite numbers, and house and feed forever at a cost of more than $12 billion through fiscal 2025 (and that’s a conservative estimate).

What about housing? A recent survey shows a third of New Yorkers are paying over half their income for rent.

Lefties used that fact to call for even more rent control — which in fact is a huge reason city housing is so limited.

Beyond that is the way progs have done so much to reduce the amount of housing, from blocking renewal of the 421a tax break for developers (responsible for the vast majority of new affordable housing in the past two decades) to 2019’s Tenant Protection Act, which has taken 43,000 units off-market because it doesn’t let landlords cover the costs of bringing old apartments up to code.

Now, the city’s on track to see only 11,000 new units built this year, half the number from 2022. 

And this is to say nothing of the state’s “Green New Deal” climate laws that are already sending power prices for New Yorkers skyward. 

Or the billions of dollars stolen by shoplifting thugs from retailers big and small thanks to the criminal justice “reforms” AOC and her compatriots back. 

AOC offered her usual prescription on this issue: tax the rich!

But they’re fleeing the state and city in droves, also thanks to our progressive overlords. 

AOC and her fellow leftists simply don’t care what their ideas actually mean for the people whose interests they claim to represent.

And if progressive ideology continues to rule New York, it’ll get ever more unaffordable — and the exodus accelerate.

New research found that poorest fifth pay a tax rate 60% higher, on average, than the top 1% of households

"A total of 44 of the 50 US states worsen inequality by making the wealthy pay a lesser share of their income in taxes than lower income people, a new analysis has found.

State and local tax regimes are “upside-down”, the new research finds, with weak or non-existent personal income taxes in many states allowing richer Americans to avoid tax. A reliance on sales and excise taxes, considered regressive because they disproportionately impact the poor, has helped fuel this inequality, according to the report.

“When you ask people what they think a fair tax code looks like, almost nobody says we should have the richest pay the least,” said Carl Davis, research director of the Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy (ITEP), which conducted the analysis.

“And yet when we look around the country, the vast majority of states have tax systems that do just that. There’s an alarming gap here between what the public wants and what state lawmakers have delivered.”

Only six states, plus the District of Columbia, have tax systems that reduce inequality rather than worsen it, with the poorest fifth of people paying a tax rate 60% higher, on average, than the top 1% of households.

The super-wealthy are treated particularly lightly by the tax system, with the top 1% paying less than every other income group across 42 states. In most states, 36 in all, the poorest residents are taxed at a higher rate than any other group.

The most regressive states in terms of taxation are, in order, Florida, Washington, Tennessee, Pennsylvania and Nevada. The least regressive jurisdictions are DC, Minnesota, Vermont, New York and California.

Various state-level policies, such as cutting taxes on the wealthy to supposedly drive economic activity, has worsened this situation, the report found. Inequality in recent decades has been far starker in the US than in other comparable countries and while some pandemic-era interventions, such as a child tax credit, lessened the burden on the poorest in society, many of those measures have now lapsed.

“But we know it doesn’t have to be like this,” said Aidan Davis, ITEP’s state policy director.

“There is a clear path forward for flipping upside-down tax systems and we’ve seen a handful of states come pretty close to pulling it off. The regressive state tax laws we see today are a policy choice, and it’s clear there are better choices available to lawmakers.”
