Florida!!! by Florence + the Machine and Taylor Swift, Daytona Sand by Orville Peck, Spanish Moss by Against Me!, White Crosses by Against Me! //Pictures: map, surfers, post card, fountain of youth; plus my own photography // The Truman Show (1998) // Sunny Side Up by Jennifer L. Holm and Matthew Holm // Wikipedia
#don’t actually know what to tag this post but um. please reblog it <3#actually I made this mostly for myself anyways but I did spend a bit of time on it#web weaving#parallels#idk I was thinking about heartbreak and aging and youth and ghosts and haunting and nature and beauty. florida!!#I think it’s ironic in a really intriguing way how the state now has a reputation for being where old folks come to retire#whereas the Spanish colonizers arrived in florida looking for the Fountain of Youth#in your quest to cheat death you brought violence and destruction but in the end you can’t conquer your way out of the inevitable#you can’t conquer age and you can’t conquer time and you can’t conquer death and you can’t conquer the ghosts that haunt the peninsula#aging is nature death is nature and that will always overpower you in florida#from hurricanes to alligators to Spanish moss to the brilliant shades of green all around#accept nature + accept death + accept aging + accept heartbreak. in florida.#I only have this many thoughts/feelings about it bc I grew up here#& when you grow up in florida your whole life it’s very easy to fall in love with the Spanish moss and alligators and oranges#and the way everything is in shades of Green much prettier than you’ve seen anywhere else#photography can’t do it Justice the landscape here can really take your breath away#Bandit.txt

i think my ideal and most favorite habitat/climate to live in would be somewhere thats old growth forested and within reasonable travel distance to an ocean beach and it receives An Amount of snow in winter. i think i would really thrive if i lived in both walking distance of woods (HUGE bonus if we live right by a trail) and casual daytrip driving distance of ocean. like an hour or two at most
#so like. the olympic peninsula i guess.#living on the ocean side of the mountains sounds intimidating though. both in natural disaster + distance from family aspects#no reason for this post btw. sentimentality and envisioning my distant future with latimer i suppose#i would also like to visit the desert but i dont think i could live there permanently#i grew up in tropical florida so while i know dry heat is different than humid heat i just still dont think i could live in a Hot location#i think even if we ever moved like Drastically far like even to another place in the world i would still aim for somewhere with this climate

Pelican Landing - June 2024 Over the years I have taken a lot of pictures of pelicans, but this is the first time that I have captured one landing on the water. In the first image he is just above the water and in the second image he has landed but had not yet brought in his wings. MWM

Stealing an extremely low quality dev image off the creator's twitter bc um. Palm trees 👍👍👍👍👍👍 loooove the look of this hope they actually get added to the foreground of this level. Admittedly didn't realize Boiler City was based off Miami until it was talked about explicitly so I think it would be fun to be more in ur face about it. And I love fun level decorations in general.
#roz posts#♡: 🔨🎰🥃#I did piece together (back)burner peninusla -> florida just bc I couldn't really think of another major peninsula in the us#plus the studio is based in florida#but I wasn't SURE

My American cringe trait is if the map is too zoomed in I usually can't tell the difference between Florida and Italy during international news
#Creepy chatter#The news just zooms into a peninsula and waits for 3 seconds to confirm if I'm looking at Italy or Florida

ive always wondered what the rest of the world thinks about Panem. do they know anything about the Hunger Games? do they willingly sit by and allow it or are they helpless? just watching on in horror?
#what are their immigration and refugee policies like? how many people cross the borders seeking asylum in Canada and Mexico?#(potentially even jamaica and the caribbean islands for the floridian peninsula. saw a map on the wiki that shows a higher sea level#and isolated islands in florida (dist 11)#they would HAVE to go by boat to leave the states.#the hunger games#edit DOES CANADA EVEN EXIST???? it's just called 'the wilds' on the maps but idk if i buy that as it just being unclaimed or if they jsut#refuse to accept another country there#like how china does that with hong kong and taiwan

top left is the florida redbelly, aka the Pseudemys nelsoni, and are a mainly herbivorous species native to Florida and parts of Georgia in the united states!
top right is the diamondback terrapin, aka the Malaclemys terrapin, which are omnivores which eat largely fish, crustaceans and marsh grasses. they have a native range from the Florida keys all the way to Cape Cod, Massachusetts, and has one of the largest ranges of any North American turtle. theres also a subspecies found in Bermuda which was not introduced there by humans! they’re a vulnerable species on the endangered species list due to overhunting in the early 20th century and accidental capture in crab traps.
bottom left is the peninsula cooter, aka the Pseudemys peninsularis, are a freshwater species native to florida. they’re closely related to florida redbellies, but are distinguished by the lack of red plastron! theyre also omnivores!
and finally, bottom right is the wood turtle, aka the Glyptemys insculpta. they live in Nova Scotia in the north and extend westwards to Minnesota and southward to Virginia, although skeletal remains have been found as far south as Georgia! they are omnivorous and have similar shells to diamondback terrapins. unfortunately they are endangered due to habitat destruction and illegal capturing for the pet trade.
just some fun guys for yall because i love turtles and theyre my latest hyperfixation animal (from elephants to foxes to llamas to raccoons and now to turtles. i blame TMNT)

I Spy Biscayne National Park from My Airplane Window View! by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: An aerial perspective of southern Florida around the Miami area, captured from an airplane window during a flight from Austin to Miami. The view is to the south at Biscayne Bay with its waters and island/keys in the namesake national park. The sight just filled me with a sense of wonder and imagination for the days ahead that were only to grow! I was needless to say eager with anticipation for my upcoming visit, where I would take a boat tour conducted by the national park institute there. In the interim, I was fortunate to have this breathtaking view to savor.

pack anatomy 🌲
packs can consist of 6-20 members though the average is thought to be around 10
there is usually 2 main wolves, sometimes known as alphas but that terms outdated, these are usually the main parents and give birth to most of the pack
a litter usually consists of 4-6 pups and they are all born blind and vulnerable and they usually stay in the den and with their mother for about 2 years
older siblings have been known to look after younger siblings if needed
the packs social bond is very strong and have fierce devotion to their pack. they have been known to mourn loss, which is what a lone howl usually is, they have also been seen to sacrifice themselves for their pack
(WIP) 🚧
communication 🦴
vocalisation:
every pack as its own unique howl to distinguish different packs and if they are on someone else's territory
a defensive howl is to keep the pack together and keep predators out of their territory
a social howl is to locate one another
barking, though rare, is used as a warning for example a mother wolf may bark of she senses danger around her pups
whimpering and whining can indicate a "i give up/in"
growling is also used as a warning but for more dominance like protecting their territory
body language and posture:
a wolf interacting with it pack can say lots about the status of the wolf and the pack
less dominant wolves usually crouch to make themselves look more smaller
they also lick the muzzles of more dominant wolves
slinking is another "i give in" and is a more submissive behaviour and is show in fights and disagreements with the pack
dominant wolves usually have a more confident upright posture to show said dominance
they also rest their head on submissive wolves neck or back
facial expressions:
when angry their ears stick upright and they bear their teeth for example when two wolves have a disagreement they will show this and growl
when suspicious they squint their eyes and put their ears back
when in fear they flatten their ears
when they want to play they display the play bow and dance around
as a warning they will curl the end of their lips displaying a bit of teeth
when relaxed their eyes are just on their sides
tail position:
tail tucking is a sign of being in fear and submission
a more dominant tail position is sticking it out and slightly upward
a neutral tail position is wagging
scent marking
they mark their territory with pheromones
these pheromones come out from glands on the toes, tail, eyes, skin and genitalia
they mark territory with urine and scat (i will not be doing this)
they have also been known to mark food
submission:
there are 2 types of submission: active and passive
active submission: is where a wolf shows signs of inferiority like tail tucking, muzzle licking and crouching (pups do this with adults)
passive submission: passive submissions is when a wolf lays on its back or side displaying the stomach or chest which is a vulnerable part of the body because it contains vital organs it is show to more dominant wolves when they get into a disagreement the less dominant one usually gives up and shows passive submission to show the others authority
playing:
they are known to get zoomies like how domestic dogs do
some games they play include: chase, tug of war or jaw sparring
jaw sparring is when two wolves will rear up on their hind legs and use their front paws and jaws
a range of vocals come out when playing this this fortifies bonds and status and shows physical skills
a more casual version of this is then laying down
facts + misconceptions 🌕
they have 42 teeth
they have 4 toes with claws and run on their toes not their pads
despite running on their toes they can run at 16-38 miles per hour
they can swim up to 8 miles
they have 200 million scent cells
they can eat 20 pounds of meat in one meal
they don't howl at the moon that was a myth people thought because of werewolves their howls are actually just more clear at night because there is usually less wind and other sound
alpha, beta, omega ect roles don't actually exist there is just more dominant wolves and less dominant wolves the alpha is usually just the parent but there is a social hierarchy in packs
wolves don't hibernate at all so they can be seen all year around
the biggest pack ever consisted of 400 wolves which was found in the outskirts of the woods in russia (i made a post abt then when i got 400 followers)
wolves have their own unique personality
northern rocky mountain wolves are one of the biggest subspecies

this is my pack so far :3 ✨ idk why im adding this i rlly like wolps at the minute and im going to get more ^^

Pelican in Flight - June 2024 This pelican was flying low over a calm sea just off Rish Redreation Area on Saint Joe Peninsula in Florida. I captured this image just as he completed the down flap of his wings. It wasn’t until I prepared this image for posting that I realized what this image reminded me of. The second image, for the non-nerds who view this, is Darth Vader’s Imperial Shuttle. MWM
