Cait Sith's fortune came true: because throughout the entire game, Cloud was trying to find Sephiroth--which he did in the end--but at the cost of losing Aerith.
...
"Along the road ahead lies something you need. However--in order to claim it, you must lose something that is dear to you."
Final Fantasy VII came out before Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories, of course. And this Chain of Memories moment somewhat parallels the above FFVII one, with Sora getting a bizarre "prophecy," that somewhat comes true, about losing someone dear to you in some way.
However, Marluxia is lying when he tells Sora that there's something he needs in Castle Oblivion. He's assuming Sora will think Riku and King Mickey are there (the "something he needs") and fall into his trap--which he does--though, ironically, Riku and the King do eventually end up in the castle, but Sora never meets them there, actually. But he does have interactions with the Riku Replica that Vexen creates. But Marluxia had no idea that that would happen, either. But Marluxia did know that in stepping foot into the castle, Sora would lose memories of the person important to him--Kairi--which was part of the Organization's plan: and so Sora does forget Kairi for a time, as Naminé begins replacing her in his memories:(

Massive thank you writers of the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy project for pushing the "Cloud Strife was never cishet" agenda. You're doing amazing, and I greatly appreciate it!
#Cloud Strife#Final Fantasy VII Rebirth#Final Fantasy VII Remake Trilogy#I mean the dude dual wields so of course he's attracted to multiple genders#Considering the Honey Bee Inn sequence in “Remake” I'm cautiously optimistic about the game allowing Cloud to truly accept himself#It would be one of the gutsiest moves in the video game industry to make such an iconic character like Cloud Strife explicitly queer#And I'm 100% onboard with that

When I play RPGs, I'm always waiting for the bit where you're allowed to walk around to new settlements, do some side content, and backtrack to places you've already been to. And Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is being very stingy with those. I never got around to finishing the original, because it wasn't a good time for me brain-wise, but I don't think it blocked you off this much after Midgar. And not for such long periods of time.
I finally found a guide that explains what part of the world unlocks in which chapter, and I think the open parts will be getting a bit more frequent now that I'm onto chapter 9, but here's how it's been so far:
Opening: Parallel universe Midgar or something Prologue: Nibelheim 4 years ago Chapter 1: Trapped in Kalm Chapter 2: Grasslands region Chapter 3: Trapped (?) in Mythril Mines Chapter 4: Junon region Chapter 5: Trapped on the cruise ship Chapter 6: Trapped in Costa del Sol Chapter 7: Northeastern Corel region (But you can see the Ubisoft towers in the rest of the region on your map, and Chadley will still nag you about world intel you can't access yet) Chapter 8: Trapped in the Gold Saucer, and later Corel Prison Chapter 9: The rest of the Corel region, Gongaga region (Haven't reached Gongaga yet because I regained the ability to backtrack and immediately blacked out and tried some more to become the Squat Queen of Planet)
There's nothing wrong with the more linear sections; I just like being able to explore and backtrack. Makes the world feel more alive, I guess? And I wish the split had been clearer. Especially chapter 7 only unlocking part of Corel. That was confusing. And kind of frustrating after two and a half chapters of linearity.
I didn't play the previous game at all because I know what I like, but I did watch a 15-hour cutscene/gameplay movie, so I'm all caught up! Sephiroth possibly time-travelling, arbiters of canon killed, Zack back alive now... somewhere, Yuffie was in Midgar the whole time fighting bad guys from Dirge of Cerberus, got it!
Sort of.
#Final Fantasy VII#Final Fantasy VII remake trilogy#Final Fantasy VII Rebirth#Final Fantasy VII Remake#You spend about half of chapter 4 trapped in Junon city as well#And I kept restarting the parade sequence because I was bad at the minigame#I know doing well isn't required but I was going to get that extra commendation#The best thing to do while infiltrating a hostile army in the hopes of getting close to its leader is to draw attention to yourself#Everybody knows that#The trick with the timing minigames in this game is that they're a lot more forgiving of early button presses than late ones#So press early

I’m curious if Zack will form his own Team in his portions and who he will join up ? Would interesting if Dyne from Timeline actually joins up. Despite his hatered for all things Shinra and such.
Now that I think upon if... it would be interesting if Zack had his own "party" during his sections. Like I feel like Biggs being by his side would be nice, but that's now... unlikely.
As for the concept of Dyne joining up with him somehow, that would be interesting, but I doubt it'll happen. I honestly don't mind all to much because Dyne's good as he is, no need to dabble further unless the Remake Trilogy's team can pull it off in a nice way.
However there are a FEW characters I would see in Zack's party (If he's getting one), Aerith helping from the other side, Cissnei, Kyrie Cannan, Evan Townsend, Reeve/Cait Sith, Cid, maybe Vincent, and maybe Yuffie if she's still up and about in that time (I forgor). That would be everyone I have currently in mind.
It's not like I'm forgetting anyone who can possibly appear in Zack's sections somehow...
No one at all.

Alright FFVII fans (and other willing volunteers), enough dancing around it! With a month to go until Rebirth comes out, it's time to discuss the title of the third game in this trilogy!
We already have Remake and Rebirth of course, plus the Crisis Core Reunion prequel and the Retrograde DLC (or was it Remission? (EDIT: it's Intergrade and Intermission. I'm an idiot, of course)), so we all see the pattern, don't we? Thus, I shall wager that the final game in this saga shall be one of THESE WORDS:
I'm not exactly a prankster, so while I know I'm putting my life in the hands of the internet here, I am willing to accept suggestions on some kind of forfeit if the third game doesn't have one of these titles. Purely for fun, but why not? I figure my odds are pretty goo-OH, RECONFIGURE, DARN IT!
So yeah, place your bets, cast your votes and throw in your ideas! What do you think will be the name of the final game of the FFVII remake trilogy?

honestly still in shock that after the events of ff7 cloud strife canonically goes on to live with tifa and take care of orphans in a loosely-defined community structure that has no concrete labels other than "family"
#like MY GOD#i know the 'settle down and have kids' schtick is a popular ending trope but this one hits different#also i dunno just the fact that cloud having a lonely childhood is basically what started everything#so him getting to help make OTHER kids' childhoods LESS lonely is very........................... oofmgh#can anyone hear me#i LOVE denzel and what he represents if i see him in the remake trilogy i will cry#final fantasy vii spoilers#willow whispers

So: it turns out that – regardless of whether it was the original plan – what Homestuck: Beyond Canon's third writing team in five years is going with seems to be a cosmic battle between a godlike asshole who thinks transformative fiction has a moral obligation to engage in thematic and structural fidelity with its source material, and a godlike asshole who thinks transformative fiction shouldn't exist at all. It's an interesting direction, if an obvious one. In fact, it's so obvious that the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy is treading the exact same ground at the exact same time; it's going to be pretty fucking bizarre watching to see which of them – if either! – manages to stick the landing.

Since I asked you about Sephiroth, I also wanted to ask about what you think of Aerith’s character and her characterization throughout the franchise.
Hhh oh god. Yeah.
So, again, Aerith begins in Final Fantasy VII as a seemingly intentional semi-subversion of the Princess Holy Maiden White Mage JRPG trope.
Mechanically she is absolutely a classic white mage, but she's also a street kid with way more life experience than Cloud, who both connects instantly with him due to his similarities with Zack, her dead ex (because, of course, Cloud is directly copying Zack's entire personality), but she also notably pushes back against him, and repeatedly refuses to let him treat her like a damsel in distress, and takes direct agency over where the story is going and what's going to happen.
As she becomes more and more conscious of her Magic Special Lineage, she changes, of course, and... arguably falls a bit more into a straight rendition of the Holy Maiden trope. Albeit I have always quite loved the reveal that Aerith isn't killed by Sephiroth just as a big tragic fridging to advance the story through Cloud's pain, but as an intentional gambit on her part to ultimately defeat the villain. The translation of the game is famously a bit wonky, but my reading of the story is that she
realizes that Sephiroth is manipulating Cloud as his primary agent in the world and that she needs to get away from him
realizes that in order to cast Holy and defeat Meteor she needs to enter the Lifestream, so
she manipulates Jenova/Sephiroth into killing her in the one place on the Planet that has the strongest connection with the Ancients so she can take advantage of their knowledge to figure out how to make Holy work.
It also kinda seems to me like she realizes that Cloud is the best chance the planet has of a champion who can defeat Sephiroth and unblock the Lifestream for the Holy spell, and maybe she sacrifices herself in part in the hopes of breaking Cloud out of Sephiroth's influence. which, yeah, that is definitely some fridging-trope nonsense.
The original game absolutely isn't perfect on how it handles it, but Aerith is (especially for the late 90s) a remarkably active player in the story, with a lot of agency entirely separate from the male protagonist, who comes into a role that requires her to separate herself from the main party and go off to set her own plans into motion.
I am overall less fond of how she got portrayed in media after the original FF7, where she really did seem to get boxed into an entirely unironic Holy Maiden trope - especially by Advent Children which casts her as a literal lover/mother to Cloud, whose especially pure and holy influence heals the blight of Geostigma once her darling Cloud overcomes his personal conflict. And certainly, a lot of portrayals of Aerith I've seen tend to focus way more on her mystical, divine Cetra Chosen One-ness than on her actual upbringing as a scrappy sassy street kid.
The Remake games... have generally walked the line okay, I think? Aerith with the steel chair might genuinely be my favourite gif from any videogame ever,
(she's just so happy to be beating the shit out of this man)
although I do feel like her portrayal in those games make her a bit too much of a Love Interest To The Protagonist character. I feel the balance in the original focused a lot more on her coming into an understanding of her role in the story separate from her attachment to Cloud, but I also have massive nostalgia glasses on my face about Final Fantasy VII, so I recognize that I am biased here.
I'm curious how the Remake trilogy, which is a wild metacommentary on the legacy of its own original, will ultimately handle her, and I really do hope it doesn't confuse the idea of a "good ending" for Aerith with the idea of being romantically paired up to a male character, or with the idea of literal or metaphorical motherhood or some other bioessentialist nonsense.

It caught my attention that one of the later First Soldier chapters not so subtly shows Stamp. The Beagle variation, which we see throughout the Final Fantasy VII Remake. Now, I'm basing my speculation on a widely held belief that any Stamp represents a splinter timeline, a branching reality that, while sharing similarities with the original game, is NOT 100% true to the original. So, Stamp represents a deviation from the original track. FFVII Rebirth exposes it by bringing to light several branching realities that Aerith, Zack, and Cloud appear to travel through. All of these highlight a different breed of Stamp. As a result, while the first part of the trilogy (FFVII Remake) appears to closely follow the original plotbeats, it's still not exactly true to the OG.
Now, First Soldier also features Beagle Stamp during a helicopter ride, which suggests its course of events differs from the original game's outcome. Something or someone affected the chain of events at some point, and the ripple effect seems to reach far into the past. The nature of this event and how Beagle Stamp reality differs from the original for Sephiroth specifically remains a mystery. Perhaps it involves some knowledge of Lucrecia. In the original game, it's heavily hinted that Sephiroth only hears his mother's name, while Beagle Stamp First Soldier gives him a photograph of his actual mother. Or it could be something else entirely.
There's something else to consider: the number of stars on each Stamp breed. According to u/nzivvo's brilliant Reddit post, the number of stars may correspond to the order of timeline creation, e.g., 2 stars = second world to be born, 3 stars = third, and so on. According to this theory, something or someone is constantly attempting to change OG time, with the party from the FFVII Remake and Sephiroth from FS being the result of the fifth attempt, as the Beagle Stamp mascot bears 5 stars.
Nzivvo writes:
If this is ends up being true then I would suggest it means the following:
1* timeline would end up being OG/Fate.
This means that to find out what's caused this entire trilogy we'd need to go backwards and learn more about the 3* timeline and more importantly the 2* timeline.
Rebirth strongly suggests the 3* timeline is one created by Omni-Aerith, which is very likely in response to Sephiroth messing with time.
Which means that 2* timeline is the big one (from a causality perspective of 'where this all began') and is very likely Sephiroth's first time-fuckery timeline creation - probably around 20-30 years prior to remake.
Which actually works very well from a story-telling perspective and also could line up with the way Ever Crisis has seemingly linked Edge of Creation Omni-Sephiroth to an event about 20+ years in his past.
As nzivvo points out, there is a direct link between First Soldier events and what we see in the FFVII Remake (EoC Sephiroth). That means that a lot of reality do-overs have already occurred.
It certainly explains why young Sephiroth from Ever Crisis appears to be experiencing glitches in the same way that Cloud does when past realities bleed into the present.
It's literally not their first time living through all of it.

Anyone else find it funny that all of the initial previews for the FFVII Remake Trilogy so far can be summed up as “Cloud Strife goes for a stroll with his work colleagues (alongside a collection of visuals that don’t make sense out of context)” or is that just me?

Beyond the Walls of Fate
In this standalone adventure for fans and newcomers, Cloud and his comrades venture across the planet, their fates unwritten, making each step outside the dystopian city of Midgar fresh and mysterious.
■ Story
For years now, the Shinra Electric Power Company has been providing the world with energy at the expense of the lifestream, the “river” whence all life flows and whither it returns.
After storming the company’s headquarters and engaging in a series of battles for the ages, Cloud and his companions leave Midgar behind and set out for the wider world. Once in the grasslands, they hop aboard chocobos and embark on a journey with an unknown destination.
Meanwhile, Zack—beaten and battered from his fight against an army of troopers—hobbles across the wastelands into Midgar with a mako-poisoned Cloud on his shoulder. Though he has managed to escape death for now, the ominous rift in the sky gives him little reason to rejoice.
That is hardly the only threat facing the world, however. The Shinra Resistance Committee, backed by Wutai’s interim government, declares war on the company; figures shrouded in black robes carry with them the corpse of Jenova, a veritable calamity from another world; and the Weapons—fierce and monstrous guardians of the planet—have recently awakened.
Amid this chaos, Sephiroth has set his plan in motion, thus ensuring myriad fates intertwine and are birthed anew.
■ Characters
Cloud Strife (voiced by Cody Christian in English, Takahiro Sakurai in Japanese)
“There’s no point in wasting our time worrying about fate if we can’t change it.”
An ex-SOLDIER: first class, Cloud came to Midgar to start a new chapter of his life as a mercenary. At the invitation of his childhood friend, Tifa, he accepts a job with Avalanche. Together, they confront Shinra, ultimately leaving Midgar behind in pursuit of Sephiroth and the truth─a quest which will lead them to defy destiny itself.
—Weapon: Sword
He fights by switching between modes specializing in mobility and offense. A single swipe of his huge sword can knock several foes off their feet at once. Some of his abilities also allow him to take the fight to the air.
Barret Wallace (voiced by John Eric Bentley in English, Masato Funaki in Japanese)
“This is the planet we’re talkin’ about! Y’all know she’s gonna pour her heart and soul into this fight!”
The leader of an independent Avalanche cell, Barret spearheads an operation to take down Shinra’s mako reactors. He pays a hefty price for this, however, when the company retaliates, and his comrades die in the crossfire. Armed with the memories of his lost friends and the newfound knowledge of Sephiroth’s plans, he departs Midgar in hope of saving the planet and safeguarding a future for his daughter Marlene.
—Weapon: Gunarm
What he lacks in speed, he makes up for in both sturdiness and strength, converting his anger toward Shinra into raw firepower. He employs a variety of ranged attacks, from rapid-fire salvos to powerful explosions, which allow him to strike foes high in the air or across the battlefield.
Tifa Lockhart (voiced by Britt Baron in English, Ayumi Ito in Japanese)
“Ever wish you could just snap your fingers and forget the worst stuff?”
Though a loyal member of Avalanche—an underground organization that opposes Shinra—Tifa nevertheless questions the group’s extremist tactics, struggling to reconcile her cause with her conscience. This internal conflict reaches a fever pitch when her group’s actions effectively lead to the fall of the Sector 7 plate. Racked with guilt, she leaves Midgar in search of a new path to tread.
—Weapon: Gloves
She strings together swift combos while utilizing a variety of martial art techniques. Her ATB fills quickly, allowing for the use of multiple abilities in rapid succession. She also boasts several skills that deal more damage to airborne or staggered foes.
Aerith Gainsborough (voiced by Briana White in English, Maaya Sakamoto in Japanese)
“Just look at it all… A living, breathing planet. Even after everything we’ve done to it, it’s still going strong.”
A flower seller who lives in the Sector 5 undercity and the last remaining descendant of the Cetra, a people known for communing with the planet. Shinra takes her prisoner in their efforts to reach the Cetra’s foretold “promised land,” but Cloud and company come to her rescue. She escapes Midgar and embarks on a journey into the outside world of which she has long dreamed.
—Weapon: Staff
Utilizing the power of magic, she casts spells from a safe distance and launches attacks that home in on her foes. She can also conjure beneficial wards and warp between them, as well as restore the party’s HP with her limit break.
Red XIII (voiced by Max Mittelman in English, Kappei Yamaguchi in Japanese)
“I may be clad in fur…but that doesn’t mean I’ll purr.”
Red XIII is a beast with a flaming tail, crimson fur, deadly claws, and the ability to speak. Cloud and company help him escape Professor Hojo’s clutches, and he decides to join them on their journey. His species is known for their long life spans, and he is no exception. As this Cosmo Canyon native is the eldest member of the party, he offers its members words of wisdom from time to time.
—Weapon: Collar
He sets upon foes with an unrelenting assault, laying into them with a beastly ferocity. Guarding against incoming attacks will feed his Vengeance gauge. Once it is full, he can unleash his inner beast, but sufficient skill is required to maximize its potential.
Yuffie Kisaragi (voiced by Suzie Yeung in English, Yumi Kakazu in Japanese)
“If I win, you get the honor of serving yours truly!”
A member of Wutai’s elite corps of ninja operatives, Yuffie infiltrates Midgar on a mission to steal the “ultimate materia” from Shinra. Her plan ends in disaster, as she fails to claim the materia and loses her partner Sonon in the struggle. Just as working alone begins to take its toll on her, however, Cloud’s group comes into the picture.
—Weapon: Throwing Star
Using her throwing star and ninja skills, she excels at both long- and close-range combat. Elemental ninjutsu allows her to exploit enemies’ weaknesses without relying on spells. She also keeps opponents on their toes with a variety of aerial attacks and tricky techniques.
Cait Sith (voiced by Paul Tinto in English, Hideo Ishikawa in Japanese)
“Alright, everyone! By popular request: a fortune or two to steer you true!”
A wisecracking, feline-shaped robot often seen poised atop his big moogle pal. One of the Gold Saucer’s most popular mascots, he is well loved for his fortune telling—a service he also offers to Cloud and friends. His adorable appearance also belies access to a surprising amount of insider intel on Shinra.
Sephiroth (voiced by Tyler Hoechlin in English, Toshiyuki Morikawa in Japanese)
“Don’t be afraid. It’s not death—it’s a homecoming.”
A former SOLDIER: 1st class of legendary renown, he is said to have died in the line of duty in Nibelheim five years ago. This is proven untrue when he appears at the Shinra Building and absconds with a research specimen known as “Jenova.” He now toys with Cloud at every opportunity, seeking to change the course of destiny and rule the planet.
Zack Fair (voiced by Caleb Piece in English, Kenichi Suzumura in Japanese)
“I dunno—hopes? Dreams, maybe? Something like that! So long as we’ve got those—and hold on tight and never let go.”
Zack may have worked with Sephiroth as a SOLDIER: 1st class, but he trained under a different operator, and it is from this man that he both learned to take pride in his work and received his iconic buster sword. After a grueling battle in which he overcomes the odds and cheats death, Zack returns to Midgar—where he hopes to see his love Aerith—with a mako-poisoned Cloud in tow.

Using their mighty talons, these chocobos can climb up and down steep slopes that bear special markings. Even if a destination seems inaccessible by foot, you might be able to get there on chocoback.
Sky Chocobos
These chocobos can take flight from gliding ranges and soar across peaks and valleys. Take to the skies and nothing will stand in your way.
■ World: New Forms of Transportation
In addition to chocobos, this game features many ways to get from one place to another. Take your friends on a buggy ride through the wastelands or do some seaside sightseeing aboard a wheelie… Put these various vehicles to use as you explore the world!
Buggy
The buggy, which can be ridden across sandy terrain, can also drive through shallow water and travel faster than chocobos. Buckle up and take the party on a wild ride through the vast desert.
Wheelie
In the seaside resort of Costa del Sol, you can ride around on a wheelie, a two-wheeled self-balancing vehicle. Tour the town at your own pace, all while taking in the beautiful scenery of this land of eternal summer.
■ World: Minigames
Not only stories and battles, but all kinds of unique elements of fun await players.
Enjoy the numerous minigames available across the game’s world.
G-Bike
The “Spinning Slash,” which uses a large sword to reap enemies, and the super-accelerating “Nitrous Boost” are just a few of the many things you can do in this bike game. Fight off the relentless gun-shooting participants and win the battle that goes beyond just speed.
Chocobo Races
A fierce race to test your chocobo riding skills. Break the balloons that appear along the way to use various techniques. Deepen the bond with your chocobo and aim for first place.
3D Brawler
Manipulate 3D polygons and take on your opponent in a one-on-one match. Avoid your opponent’s attacks and deliver a powerful punch. If you have powerful limit moves that you can unleash by continuing to land hits, victory will surely be yours.
■ Messages from the Development Staff
Yoshinori Kitase, Producer
“Final Fantasy VII Rebirth has been set for release on February 29, 2024. This second installment of the Final Fantasy VII remake project will feature elements from the previous game, as well as greatly enhanced features such as the vast world map to explore and synergy abilities with party members. The story will unfold more dramatically than ever before, with a rapid pace of major twists and turns. We know fans are dying to see one scene in particular…
“Final Fantasy VII Rebirth can be enjoyed on its own as a standalone adventure, with the party leaving Midgar to explore the wide world beyond. But for those wishing to deepen their understanding of the story, a recap of the previous game will also be provided.
“We hope that both fans and those who have never played Final Fantasy before will enjoy this game.”
Naoki Hamaguchi, Director
“We are finally able to announce the release date to all of you! We have been working tirelessly on Final Fantasy VII Rebirth since the release of Final Fantasy VII Remake, and we can’t wait for you to experience our labor of love. In this title, Cloud and his friends, who have fled Midgar, will be setting out on an adventure across an expansive world of untold adventure in pursuit of Sephiroth.
“While the main storyline is bigger and more ambitious than the previous game’s narrative, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth also embraces the concept of ‘free exploration,’ with compelling stories, fun mini-games, powerful monsters and so much more to find throughout the world map. We hope you will explore this world in great detail, as nearly 100 hours of adventure awaits.
“We hope you will take this new Final Fantasy game experience in your own hands to enjoy.”
Tetsuya Nomura, Creative Director
“This is the second title of a trilogy, and covers between the start of the journey outside Midgar to the midpoint of the original Final Fantasy VII. If Final Fantasy VII Remake was an introduction to the world and a preparation for this journey, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth serves as an illustration of the incidents that started the journey, an exploration of the people tied to it, and the journey itself, heading toward its climax. Many elements were carefully selected for this title and because this is a series, we have the unique opportunity to review and incorporate feedback from the previous title, such as by increasing the number of characters. I am sure that the bar for the next work will be raised even higher now that we have included so many spectacular elements in this work, but even so, the entire team continues to work diligently and without compromise on its development.
“There is also the looming question of what fate awaits. Whether you have experienced the original title or will embark on this adventure with fresh eyes, we hope you will face the ending of this work on your own terms.”

Note
It seems that in no matter what universe there's a Sephiroth, he always turns evil.
-Og final fantasy vii? Was once a named hero, but turns against the world after discovering his true origin.
-Remake trilogy? Pretty much the same thing as the og.
-Kingdom hearts? Was once a nice person, but turned to the darkness when Xehanort took over Hollow Bastion.
Poor guy, always gotta be evil no matter what.
He's very much doomed by the narrative. Maybe there exists a Sephiroth that is still untainted by tragedy and Jenova's influence. After all, there are apparently now infinite timelines and possibilities. That's all we can hope for when it comes to Seph.
