I know I've reblogged it before but I cannot recommend F.D. Signifier's video on the Kendrick/Drake beef highly enough. This is extremely good analysis of a subculture from an expert and enthusiast that's accessible to a layperson, with the necessary historical context.

Also he dunks on Drake fans in a hilarious but mean way and I respect that. But he also has enough critical distance to step back and acknowledge some of the kinda shitty ways Drake's been treated, while keeping in mind that Drake just fucking sucks.

It's well worth your time and I'll be checking out his other stuff.

Watching F.D. Signifier's new video on black cops and started feeling weirdly...grieved, I guess is the word. My dad's a cop. He is black. My brother is in the military. He's black. I'm black.

The ways in which I diverge from them in politics are one of the things I've had to reconcile with. Like... knowing that they're cogs in this evil, putrid machine absolutely nauseates me. And yet? All I can do is love them and hope they realize what they're doing.

Fiq dropped this 2 days ago and it already has well over a million views. Which is pretty good for a 3 and 1/2 hour video.

This is going to serve as the definitive analysis of the Drake / Kendrick beef, and that's good, because this is basically half a semester of lectures from a 200-level course on the last two decades of mainstream rap. By a guy who knows exactly why he's mentioning what he is, and what he isn't.

History and cultural context are everything here. Sure, fights between celebrities are fun on their own. But when you know how we got here...oh man. This makes the great Kendrick tracks even better.

This whole thing was two galaxies colliding. Before you listen to "Not Like Us" for the 32nd time, take a third of the daylight and learn about everything funky and heavy that is going on just under the surface.

You'll only appreciate it more.

What do you think abolishing the police and prisons looks like and what are your thought/ideas for other means of handling actually serious crimes (assualt, murder, rape, ect.)

i got this ask last week and honestly, it's way too big and complex of a topic for me to address

so it's convenient that a man i respect tremendously, FD Signifier, released a video 2 days ago about Police & Prison Abolition.

it is close to 2 hours long. it is also the best explanation or breakdown i have seen of police and prison abolition in several years. FD is incredible and deserves your views if you have the time to spend. i'll defer to him to best represent my feelings on the matter.
