Slavs and Vikings Festival in Wolin, Poland
The Slavs and Vikings Festival is one of the largest early-medieval events in the world. There are archery and spear-throwing competitions, games and contests for kids, craft-making presentations demonstrating how jewelry, coins, horns, and amber were created, live music, readings, and much more.
Wolin is a town located on Poland’s largest island (of the same name) on the coast of the Baltic Sea. It's a City of History, whose glory days date back to 1000 years ago. In the early Middle Ages, it was one of the largest and most powerful cities in this part of Europe, and ranked among the most important ports of the Baltic Sea. Wolin is considered to have been the gateway through which Scandinavians traveled southwards from the Baltic Sea to inland Piast state.

First screenshots from Gloria!, first upcoming fiilm co–written and directed by Margherita Vicario. It will premiere on February 2024 and is pending for the Golden Bear of the 74th Berlin International Film Festival.
It is late 18th century in Venice, and in a convent school for girls Teresa, a girl with prophetic gifts, joins forces with some amazing music-makers. They create a new kind of music that is pop, bright and bold, and challenge the ancient and rigid system.

Los Zancos (The Stilts)
Artist: Francisco Goya y Lucientes (Spanish, 1746–1828)
Date: 1791-1792
Medium: Oil on canvas
Collection: Museo del Prado, Madrid, Spain
Description
Two young men on high stilts head toward a window out of which a young woman leans. They are accompanied by two other young men on foot, playing the dulzaina. Groups of men wrapped in their capes and with broad-brimmed hats completely covering their faces, as well as women and children, contemplate the festive scene. As in many other works from this period, a simple, everyday subject contrasts with a deeper theme. Here, the stiltwalkers' effort to avoid falling and their gallantry with the lady in the window are a means of denouncing the struggle to survive that period's difficult social conditions. This cartoon was for one of the tapestries intended for Carlos IV's office at El Escorial .

Festive Baking
Today is Saint-Nicholas Day, celebrated across Europe, from Germany to France, Belgium to Switzerland and the Netherlands (on the 5th December for our Dutch friends), and thus I reckon it's a good day to start indulging in Festive Baking! My Christmas Pudding is maturing in the dark and won't be revealed until Christmas Eve or Day, but whilst we wait, there is plenty of time for spiced biscuits, crisp meringues, soft saffron brioches or mouth-watering custard tartlets! And you can even bake a batch of vanilla, chocolate or gingerbread bikkies to decorate your tree --we are getting ours this weekend! It's cold outside, and it is a season for being nice to yourselves, your friends and loved-ones, and nothing says "I love you" like a plate of freshly baked little pies filled with the right amount of sultanas and flaky pastry (especially when your girlfriend designed a recipe specially to cater to your moderate appreciation of aforementioned sultanas!) Have fun baking, friends, and even more fun eating these beauties!
