Help a Palestinian family of 10 after GFM deleted all their funds !!! - VETTED
@iyadsobhegaza 's fundraiser has been stagnating for a while now. They lost a total of 11k when GFM deleted their previous fundraiser with no warning. They haven't even reached 2% of their goal yet.
Iyad and his wife are both elderly and they need to evacuate with their 8 children. Iyad suffers from high blood pressure and diabetes, and often his blood pressure rises without any medication to help him. Food and clean water are also hard to come by, and they have been displaced many times over. They need this money both to evacuate and for accessing essentials like tents, food, and medicine. Iyad's health is deteriorating, they are in pain, exhausted, and need to get out ASAP.
As of 11th August 2024, no donations have been made for the past 2 days. Please donate and share:
Tumblr media
His previous GFM had been verified by nabulsi and it is no. 173 on the Google doc of Vetted Gaza Fundraisers organised by nabulsi and el-shab-hussein. We are currently waiting for the link to get updated on there. You can see Iyad's announcement of the switch to PP here. You can also read my previous post for this campaign here.
Iyad has been on tumblr for a while now and has had to switch accounts 3 times. As of writing this post, his current account @iyadsobhegaza has been shadowbanned. I urge you to follow it to follow his updates.
I cannot reiterate the urgency of their evacuation enough. This fundraiser has been stagnating for a month now and time is passing that they may not get back. They have to run from raids and bombs constantly and have been displaced more times than I can count. Please donate.

Suffering of my family ... please give us your attention
Tumblr media
All my family members are currently in Gaza: my brothers Ahmed, Osama, Moatasim, and Mohammed, along with their families, and my elderly parents. Ahmed's family includes three children: Qusay, Lyan, and Ayda. Osama's family also has three children: Yahya, Sewar, and Yamen. Moatasim’s family consists of two children: Maria and Aysha. Mohammed is 22 years old.
They once lived in safety and peace, each having their own home which provided them with happiness, warmth, and love. Ahmed and Osama worked as dental technicians, Moatasim was a delivery driver, and Mohammed was training to become a dental technician with the dream of opening his own practice.
Tumblr media
Before the war, they led normal lives—visiting one another, going on trips, and sharing laughs and smiles. But everything changed on October 7, 2023, when war broke out in Gaza. This horrific conflict destroyed their lives, taking away their homes, jobs, safety, and dreams, and tragically claiming many of our relatives.
Tumblr media
Two weeks into the war, my family was forced to flee their home in Tel Alhawa, escaping south to the Deir Albalah area to save their lives. Now, they live in tents with no access to water, electricity, sanitation, or food. These dire conditions have led to numerous health issues, especially for the children, including skin diseases and Hepatitis B infections.
Tumblr media
Every day, my family struggles to survive in these appalling conditions. This has become a nightmarish reality. The funds raised by this campaign will be used to:
Provide Medical Care and Treatment: My parents urgently need medical support. My father has undergone heart catheterization due to blocked arteries, while my mother suffers from high blood pressure and heart problems. They require both medical attention and nutritious food.
Offer Health Treatment for Qusay, four-year child, who recently had a difficult throat operation, needs ongoing healthcare and speech therapy. His condition has left him struggling with speech difficulties, and he requires urgent speech therapy, healthy nutrition and Phycological treatment.
Tumblr media
Supply Essential Living Needs: My family is without any means of income and is unable to afford basic necessities such as food, water, childhood needs, medicine, and cleaning products.
Rent a House Before Winter: Currently living in tents, my family faces the prospect of enduring harsh winter conditions without proper shelter. Renting a house before winter sets in is crucial to their survival and well-being.
Your donation and sharing my family campaign can make a significant difference during this devastating time. Thank you for your attention and generosity.

Which kind of tea, green tea or black tea, is better for lowering blood pressure?
Lowering blood pressure can be quite challenging, and many people with hypertension can relate to this. Every millimeter of mercury (mmHg) reduction in blood pressure is a long-term gift obtained through strict medication adherence, a healthy diet, and moderate exercise.
However, scientists have discovered a group of people who can easily lower their blood pressure with a simple and small habit. After just 12 weeks, they achieved significant blood pressure reduction.
Tumblr media
They found that long-term tea consumption reduced the average systolic and diastolic blood pressure by 1.8 mmHg and 1.4 mmHg, respectively.
So, which type of tea is best for lowering blood pressure?
Part 1: Although there are many types of tea in the market, such as green tea, black tea, oolong tea, white tea, yellow tea, and chrysanthemum tea, most studies on the relationship between tea consumption and blood pressure focus on green tea and black tea.
Researchers from the Fuwai Hospital of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences published a meta-analysis in the British Journal of Nutrition, which included 25 relevant studies and 1,476 participants. They found that people who drank green tea had a significant reduction in systolic blood pressure by 2.1 mmHg and diastolic blood pressure by 1.7 mmHg. In contrast, those who drank black tea had a reduction of 1.4 mmHg in systolic blood pressure and 1.1 mmHg in diastolic blood pressure. Therefore, long-term consumption of green tea seems to be more effective in controlling blood pressure.
Another meta-analysis by foreign scholars also found that green tea had a more significant blood pressure-lowering effect than black tea.
Frequent consumption is key
Although many studies suggest that tea consumption can help lower blood pressure, this does not mean that people with hypertension who do not have a tea-drinking habit can immediately lower their blood pressure by drinking a cup of tea. After all, tea is not medicine.
Researchers from the Fuwai Hospital found that acute tea intake had no effect on systolic and diastolic blood pressure. Blood pressure reduction only became significant after drinking tea for more than 12 weeks, with systolic blood pressure decreasing by 2.6 mmHg and diastolic blood pressure decreasing by 2.2 mmHg.
In addition to "long-term," some scholars suggest that the frequency of tea consumption is also related to blood pressure reduction. Hodgson et al. evaluated the effect of long-term regular tea consumption on blood pressure in older women. A total of 218 women over 70 years old were included in the study. The results showed that tea intake was related to a significant reduction in systolic and diastolic blood pressure. An increase of 250 ml/day (one cup) of tea intake was associated with a 2.2 mmHg reduction in systolic blood pressure and a 0.9 mmHg reduction in diastolic blood pressure.
This suggests that frequent tea consumption may have a beneficial effect on blood pressure in older women.
Furthermore, a study on blood pressure and tea consumption in the elderly population in Jiangsu, China, involving 4,579 participants, found a significant negative correlation between tea consumption frequency and systolic and diastolic blood pressure after adjusting for age, sex, lifestyle, and other factors.
In conclusion, although many studies have shown that tea consumption can help lower blood pressure, it is important not to make the tea too strong.

Hi everyone. I've just been informed by Ahmed Al-Nabih (@ahmedalnabeeh11) that his mother's health condition is very serious right now. His elderly mother suffers from chronic diseases, heart disease, blood pressure, and diabetes, and her health condition is getting worse due to the lack of medical treatment. I'm sure you all know how bad that situation in Gaza is right now, and how medical resources are scarce. I hope you would share/reblog Ahmed's campaign and donate if you are able to!
Ahmed and his twin brother Abedelrahman have been displaced, along with their younger brother Karam and their mother Tahani, due to the ongoing genocide in Gaza. Their father has already passed away, and they are trying to evacuate to Egypt.
Ahmed's campaign is verified and is # 218 on vetted fundraiser list vetted by el-shab-hussein and nabulsi.
Currently €23,590 raised of €30,000 target.

cigarettes out the window

Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The hunt for Gold Star had left little room for relaxation. With both of you working overtime, your shared apartment with Emily currently housed two members of the FBI with heightened blood pressure and an elderly black cat who pestered you for food every chance he got.
Your jaw ached from the clenching of your teeth you can seldom seem to stop and you stared at the ceiling while Emily caught a few hours of sleep. You slipped out from beneath the duvet without her stirring, holding your breath until you were sure you’d reached the doorway without her waking.
With a quick glance in her direction, you made your way to the hidden packet of cigarettes you were sure she would’ve found by now, balancing the unlit stick between your lips as you poured a hefty glass of merlot. You kept the padding of your feet as quiet as possible as you tipped a handful of kibble into Sergio’s bowl, scratching him behind the ear as he purred before you stepped out onto the balcony.
Every movement you made was calculated, keeping yourself as silent as possible before the hiss of gas filled the quiet of the night air; the spark of your lighter accompanied the distant hum of car engines and with your first inhale you could finally ease some of the tension built up in your shoulders. It was a vice you wish you didn’t have but in times like these you find yourself in dire need of a crutch to hold you up.
Your arms rested on the metal fencing as you peered over the edge, watching the gentle breeze knock at the branches and the empty streets below. The bitter swig of wine burned your throat, and you made a mental note to buy a different brand the next time you went grocery shopping. You let your mind drift to nothing in particular, letting yourself sink into the silence until you heard the telltale creak of the sliding door behind you - you didn’t think twice before you flicked the half-finished cigarette to the ground below, blowing out the mouthful of smoke before you turned around.
“Shit, I thought I hadn’t woken you,” you spoke, quickly spinning to face your only half-awake girlfriend. She’d lazily pulled her robe around her underwear-clad body and brushed a strand of her mussed-up hair behind her ear.
“You didn’t, don’t worry,” she smiled. “I woke up for a glass of water and saw you’d gone,” she added - you almost missed her lie.
“I couldn’t sleep,” you returned through a sigh. “I guess neither of us can at the moment.”
She hummed in agreement, but the way she eyed you let you know she wasn’t oblivious to what you’d been doing.
“I thought you’d quit.”
“I have; I just needed fresh air,” you shoddily fibbed, only earning a raised eyebrow in response. “I thought you’d quit,” you added teasingly.
“I have.”
“So, what’s that in your hand?”
“What? Oh- these are yours,” she mumbled with a glance at the box in her grasp. “I found them in the dresser.”
“Emily Prentiss, are you telling lies?” you teased her with a laugh.
“Wha- no. No, I’m not.” She shook her head so profusely that even without any knowledge of profiling, a person could read her from a mile away.
“We both know that’s not my brand, Em,” you pointed out. “And, hiding them in the dresser? I thought you’d give me a little more credit than that.”
“Okay, fine,” she laughed with a playful roll of her eyes, finally coming to stand beside you with the small of her back pressed against the railings. “I guess we’ve both got filthy habits.”
She peered at you through her lashes as she spoke, bending her head with the last of her words uttered around the butt of a cigarette; your hands sheltered it from the whisper of wind as the flame licked the end with a crackle at her first inhale only so audible because of the palpable quiet passing between you.
You took a sip from your glass as she let smoke pass from the corner of her lips.
“It’s nice to have a quiet moment with you,” she breathed, pushing the end of the cigarette between your lips. “It’s been a long week.” You hummed with an agreeing nod.
“And it’s only the beginning,” you sighed.
“It’s made me think,” Emily began, plucking the glass from your hand to take a sip for herself. “That we should make the most of any moment alone we have at the moment.”
Her free hand didn’t shy away from tracing a finger along your thigh, nudging the t-shirt you were wearing upwards to brush her touch against your hip. She took in the view of your face, cheeks blanketed by the yellowed glow of the moon, a small plume of smoke passing from your lips into the twilight sky and she couldn’t help but lean in closer.
Your head tilted backwards as her lips ghosted the skin of your neck, giving ample access for the kiss she aches to place there. She could practically feel the thrumming of your pulse beneath her tongue, revelling in the salty-sweet taste of your skin with a gentle scrape of her teeth.
She felt the movement of your neck as you took a drag of the cigarette, hearing you exhale shakily above her. She was nothing less than ravenous in her assault, nipping at the skin beneath your ear to lay her claim, taking hold of your waist just as harshly. She only pulled away to catch her breath, observing you with plump red lips and pupils blown to match.
“Don’t hog that,” you teasingly pouted as she took another swig from the glass, only tutting when she took another with a smirk. Wordlessly, she nudged at your chin, hovering over you with her mouth full of wine and her eyes of something just as fruitful. With just a pointed crook of her brow, you knew to slacken your jaw to allow the earthy merlot to pass from her lips to yours, swallowing it down obediently.
The smile of satisfaction did nothing to quell the needy ache you pooled with; your body practically hummed with need beneath her unwavering gaze. She's sure she could take in the sight for eternity. She placed the glass aside to take what was left of the cigarette between her fingers, balancing the filtered end between her lips while the palms of her hands set your hips on fire.
Your own touch crept beneath her robe, soft and pliable skin warm and peppered with goosebumps. You couldn’t keep your kiss away from her chest, scattering pecks along her collarbone with your hands desperately kneading her breasts through the lace bra that got in your way. She hummed in pleasure, pulling you hopelessly nearer with her nails scraping the flesh of your thighs, grabbing and groping with her mind settled on taking any hold of you she could.
Emily’s fingertips nudged at the waistband of your underwear, and though your hands tangled themselves within the salt and pepper tresses of her hair and your face nestled in the crook of her neck, she heard the desperate mewl and felt the twitch of your hips to urge on her movements.
When she slid a finger through your folds, you finally pulled away to breathe - to take in the sight of your lover with the end of a cigarette lazily hanging from her lips and her hair mussed from your touch. Her free hand pulled it from her mouth with a final exhale of smoke, flicking the butt over the balcony without taking her focus from the digits she pushed into you.
And, though your lips melded together with the bitter tastes of smoke and wine, it couldn’t be any sweeter. Her tongue fought against yours and her thumb drew circles over your clit, fingers curling within you whilst your hips chased the feeling with aimless rutting against her hand.
“God, I needed this,” Emily breathed. “I needed you - just feeling you like this is all I ever need.”
You met her eyes with yours with words on the tip of your tongue, sentiments to match hers that fell short with the way she made you feel, digits moving with precise choreography - she only smirked at the way she can make you fall apart so easily. She had you trapped between her own body and the railing behind you, but the pain of metal against your back was washed away by the pleasure of impending release.
You kept your mouth against her jaw, sinking your teeth into her neck to quell the sounds she pulled from you. Though Emily may want to hear how she affects you, you would rather not wake up the entire street with the gasps and moans that threatened to spill into the quiet night. She kept up the rhythmic pace of her fingers pumping into your cunt, feeling the slick of your arousal against her skin and the way you clenched around her with the pleasure pulsing through you.
“C’mon, baby, let go,” she rasped, feeling you teeter on the edge of climax before she pulled you to topple over. She hissed at the way you muffled your moan with a bite to her neck, but with your release, the both of you felt the stress of the week begin to melt away.
She slipped her digits away from you once she’d ridden you through the high, sucking them clean of every drop as though it were her lifeline. Your heart thumped against your chest and you held your body up with your arms looped over her shoulders; you could hardly trust your legs to keep you upright.
“Fuck, Emily,” you breathed through a laugh, one that she mirrored with her lust-blown eyes focused on you.
“I’m that good, huh?” she cockily teased, chuckling at the playful shove you planted against her chest.
“Come on,” you grinned, taking her by the hand to pull her behind you back into the apartment.
“Where’re you taking me?”
“To bed,” you stated, turning to face her with your hands on her waist as you let her guide you backwards. You couldn’t keep away from her - you never can - but right now she’s all you could ever need. “I want you. But don’t expect us to get much sleep.”

The story of Ahmed Al-Saidi
My name is Ahmed AlSaidi, I currently live in Gaza Strip under this horrifying war with my wife, 3 children, my elderly parents and my brothers Osama, Moatasim, and Mohammed with their families.
We once lived in safety and peace, each having their own home which provided us with happiness, warmth, and love. I was working as a dental technician and supporting my family.
But after the war started on the 7th of October, we were under bombing, dead bodies were every where, so we were forced to leave our house a night before it was under bombing, it was a miracle that we remained alive. We were forced to be displaced many times and now we live in tents in Deir al-Balah. Our conditions now are miserable and unhuman without any income and thus we are unable to provide life essentials to our families such as medicine, clothing, cleaning products and food for our children. Every thing becomes more expensive. The lack of hygiene, water and living in tents with sand and insects caused a lot of diseases, like skin rash, hepatitis b, fever, and cold.
This horrific war destroyed our lives, taking away our homes, jobs, safety, and tragically claiming many of our relatives. So we created this campaign to:
1_Provide medical care for my eldery parents who are suffering from many chronic diseases, high blood pressure, and heart problems.
2. Provide urgent health treatment to Qusay, a 4 years old child who has speech problem and need psychological and speech therapy.
3. Provide essential living needs to survive, like food, clothes, water to drink, and medicine.
4. Winter is coming and we urgently need to move from the tents and rent a house to protect our children from cold.

Help Save Ahmed Family From Gaza
☪︎ ִ ֶ֢࣪⋆ by @ahmedomer9 [ Verification Source ]
☪︎ ִ ֶ֢࣪⋆ Description
My name is Ahmed Al-Habil, a father of a family of six, and I lost almost everything in the war on Gaza, but I did not lose my faith and hope for a better tomorrow. I used to work as a fisherman in the Gaza sea, I lived a simple but dignified life, the sea was my only refuge and source of livelihood to feed my family, but in a moment, my dreams were shattered on the rocks of war, when the bombing destroyed everything I owned in the Gaza port, I lost my job and my boat, and became homeless, and hopeless.
After October 7, my family and I found ourselves in a cycle of continuous displacement, and we were displaced more than five times, fleeing the death that was chasing us. From our destroyed home in Gaza, to Nuseirat, then to a tent in Khan Younis, then to a shelter school, and even to Rafah, where we were also attacked. Now, we live in a tent in Deir al-Balah, where no human being can bear this harsh situation.
My young children, Omar 10 year old / Khadija 9 year old / Ali 6 year old and little Zain 3 year old, live in very poor conditions, as they have been deprived of their childhood, which was supposed to be full of innocence and play, and has become distorted by fear and deprivation. In addition to my responsibilities as a father and a son, I take care of my elderly parents, my 72-year-old father suffers from chronic diseases and osteoporosis, and my 70-year-old mother suffers from diabetes and high blood pressure, in addition to spinal problems.
My life has become an endless nightmare, but despite all this, I have not abandoned my family, so today I need your support to rebuild a new life for my family, a life worthy of my children, my father and my mother, this family deserves a new chance, a chance to live in dignity and peace. Your donation today may be the light that illuminates my path and my family's path in this darkness

His mother in particular has a herniated disc and osteoporosis. Her health has deteriorated greatly due to lack of medical care
The children are 8, 6, and 4 years old. They are emaciated and feel hopeless
Aug 18 GFM update: The children contacted scabies, which is highly contagious and causes severe discomfort and pain.
Note: I do not often make posts for campaigns I am not focusing on, and I won't be updating this. I encourage others to adopt this campaign (because I can't right now) and make sure it gets the traction it needs.

In desperate need of escaping the academic and social pressure of a top university, Akaashi convinced his parents that it would not be the end of the world if he went to one a little outside of Tokyo instead. It was far less prestigious, of course, and few people had ever heard of it. But in the end, his air-tight argumentation had won them over and he had moved into his dorm in a neighboring prefecture. The university he chose had a surprisingly good literary program with shockingly bad libraries. For months now the main library on campus was under construction with no indication of anyone ever working on it and so the students were forced to fan out to the smaller libraries in the surrounding neighborhoods to find the volumes necessary for their field.
Akaashi stretched his neck and winced when it popped. He would have loved to take the stack of books next to him to the dorms but the small town library he had chosen was so miserably equipped that they couldn‘t afford to let the few academic publications they carried leave the premises. The essay he was pondering over was a lot trickier than he had anticipated and if he didn‘t hand it in by tomorrow he‘d get a failing grade by default. And so, resigning himself to his fate, he shuffled to the lobby to get a paper cup of watery coffee from the old vending machine, ready to make the most of it until closing time.
When he returned to his spot at the long, somehow always mysteriously sticky table he frowned. He could have sworn there was a book missing. Confused and thinking his exhausted mind must be playing tricks on him he looked around but besides the elderly woman at the reception, deeply engrossed in a well-read paperback with a questionable title, there was no one else around. Akaashi bent down to look through his bag, considering he might have absently put it away, and shot back up a moment later when a pair of chubby legs in very familiar, frayed sneakers walked past on the other side, heading towards the opposite end of the table and he heard the unmistakable sound of books being somewhat carelessly dropped onto the surface.
His mood darkened. Pretending you couldn‘t see him, you placed your backpack on the chair next to you and withdrew a tattered notepad, pencil case, and water bottle, reaching for the first book. Once you opened it, he noticed the cover.
You didn‘t even have the decency to look ashamed when he came over. “What do you think you‘re doing?“, he asked.
“What does it look like?“, you replied, your tone pointedly bored as you flipped through the pages.
“I was working with this book.“
“Really? Looked to me like you were done with it.“
“I only went to get a coffee.“, he pressed out through his teeth, “And it lay open next to my paper. How much more in use could it have been?“
“Listen, you have a whooole stack next to you. Why don‘t you use those until I‘m done, hm?“
You had the audacity to give him a very fake bright smile.
He hated that he didn’t immediately have another comeback. Biting the inside of his cheek he thought but ultimately knew there was no point in arguing with you. Any wall would be more susceptible.
“20 minutes.“, he said coldly, “Then you‘ll give it back.“
“Sure thing, pretty boy.“, you said sarcastically, placed the book demonstratively in front of you, and began taking notes. As he walked away you added lazily, “You misspelled “embarrassing“ in your second paragraph. - Ironically.“
As he sat back down, feeling his blood pressure steadily rising in your presence, he felt a pang of annoyance when he saw you were right.
“Time‘s up.“ Exactly 20 minutes later, Akaashi stepped next to you once again. He reached out for the book but you held it tightly, scribbling away. “Just take a picture and work with that.“, he suggested irritably.
“Battery died.“, you only replied without taking your eyes off the paragraph or stopping to write.
For a couple of moments he just stood next to you, hoping to bring you out of context for one, but also maybe come up with a solution for your problems. There was a lot of cross-referencing involved in his paper. Taking pictures would most likely take longer than just looking it all through in his case.
“Maybe we can share it.“, he said eventually.
You looked up and raised a highly doubtful brow.
“I know,“, he suppressed the urge to roll his eyes, “but if we both need it right now that feels like the only way.“
After a moment‘s thought you moved your backpack from the chair to make space for him and continued your work.
He scoffed inwardly. Obviously, you expected him to move to you, but not wanting to risk another argument he gave in and went to collect his things.
It was by no means a perfect solution but at least there was minimal fighting. You were even considerate enough to only hold the page open at a 90 degree angle so he could continue reading on the page he was on, which he conceded was rather civil of you.
The late summer sun was ready to turn in and through the windows offered little support with grayish golden light.
“Okay, you two. It‘s time to pack up for today.“, the elderly woman announced. Instinctively, Akaashi checked his phone for the time. It made sense that the small library closed at 6 but he was so used to the convenience of the business hours of Tokyo’s city center that it caught him off guard nonetheless.
“Just another hour?”, you pleaded from the seat next to him, your voice sweet and genuine. He never heard it like that before.
The elderly woman pursed her lips apologetically, “I’m sorry, dearie. But we open tomorrow at 9, you can come straight back then.”
Akaashi looked down at his unfinished paper. 9 a.m. was his deadline. And judging by your barely legible notes, you were also in a hurry to finish up an assignment. You began putting your things away and looked confused when he grabbed your wrist to stop you.
“Gimme a moment.”, he said and got up.
You watched with rising curiosity how he rounded the corner of the table and began talking with the woman. They were too far away to hear clearly but she laughed and playfully waved him off. He kept on talking for about another thirty seconds before she laughed - no, not laughed. Giggled. Then she rummaged in her purse, produced a set of very jangly keys, and, unclipping one of them, handed it to him. Your jaw dropped when she waved Goodbye to you past his shoulder. With a small satisfied grin, he returned to you and plopped down on the chair, going back to the book as if nothing happened. Evidently, you weren’t gonna let it slide and stared at him until he talked.
“Don’t look at me like that. I just got us VIP access.”, he held up the key, “We can stay as long as we want. Just have to lock up after and leave the key under that clay owl at the entrance.”
“How did you even…?”, you asked, impressed.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about. I just asked nicely, that’s all.”
“Uh huh.”
“You have your ways,”, he pointed to the book you previously swiped from him, “and I have mine.”
“Whatever you say, pretty boy.”
As a child, Akaashi would have done anything to spend a night alone in a manga café. He would have practically glowed at the prospect of squinting for hours at the text bubbles and admiring the details in the panels. Now that he got glasses, the squinting was gone, but his love of reading was still as strong as ever and even though it wasn’t an exciting manga in front of him or a café that kept him fed with ramen and other junk food he still felt a deep sense of joy to spend time alone in a library. Well, almost alone. A loud growling of your tummy ripped him from his nostalgia.
He had completely forgotten about the time. “Maybe we should order some food.”, he said, reaching into his pocket and taking out his wallet to check how much cash he had. He doubted the delivery services this far out all came equipped with card readers. Scrolling through the handful of delivery services in the area, he asked, “What are you in the mood for?”
He was about to lay out your options when you shook your head. From somewhere in your backpack you produced a slightly squished onigiri. It was from a convenience store with a bright red sticker announcing that it had been on sale due to the close expiration date. His eyes fell onto your notepad once again, densely covered in scribbles, not wasting a single centimeter of space. The scratches and dents in your metal pencil case suggested that it had been with you for a long time. He tried to remember ever seeing you during the many social events the university offered. But whenever the class suggested going out for dinner you made excuses of studying or having to part-time. He knew you were a scholarship student but he just figured it was because of your excellent grades since you two usually fought for the top score of the year, not for a lack of money.
Akaashi looked down at his wallet again.
“I can just pay for both of us, no problem.”, he offered and was shocked when that earned him a dagger-filled glare.
“No thank you.”, you said sharply and bit into the rice ball.
He shrugged. “Fine. Suit yourself.” After ordering a large pizza for himself, he put his phone away again, going back to working silently by your side. The book that had started the alliance was pushed out of the way at this point and you were each going through separate materials.
About half an hour passed before his phone buzzed, letting him know the pizza was waiting out front and when he returned the tempting smell of cheese and freshly baked bread filled the air. With a slice, heavily laden with different toppings, in one hand, Akaashi went back to checking the notes he had taken since his arrival, sifting out the truly important and highlighting the ones he wanted to add to his paper. Your stomach grumbled again and your hand automatically went to cover it. He pretended not to notice it, but a grin slowly formed on his lips with each new noise coming from you. He heard you swallow quietly and caught you glancing at the pizza every so often. He took his second piece, adding a little hum of culinary delight to the mix.
Once a third of the pizza was gone and you still hadn‘t said anything he was beginning to worry his idea hadn‘t worked, so he swerved to plan B. Leaning back in his chair he patted his stomach, a small bump indicating he was stuffed. “Hey, can you do me a favor?“
“When have I ever been known to do that?“
Akaashi ignored your comment.
“I think I was being too greedy. There is no way I can finish this thing on my own.“
With a sidelong look at him, you raised a brow. “I‘m not a child. I know what you‘re doing.“
“And what is it that I‘m doing?“, he asked, innocently but with a definite challenge to his voice.
You were about to call out his obvious scheme when you wondered if it wouldn‘t sound too egotistical to say that he wanted to share from the beginning. What if he really only miscalculated his hunger? And letting a fresh (and free) pizza go to waste was basically a crime.
Wordlessly, you reached past him and pulled the box over so it was sitting between you. The first bite was heaven and you chewed carefully to savor the taste. Very satisfied with himself, Akaashi began adding his notes to his paper. Whilst nibbling at the crust you slid a book to him.
You tapped a paragraph near the bottom of the page. “Here, this is your topic, right?“
He quickly skimmed it and nodded. The title of the book didn‘t suggest that it had anything to do with his research.
“It seemed promising, maybe it can give your paper that last little bit of extra.”
He wanted to thank you out of reflex but instead said with a teasing tone, "What, you like me now?"
“I tolerate you.“, you said loftily, taking a second slice.
Akaashi mimicked you under his breath, of course still loud enough for you to hear, “I tolerate you.“
You both laughed.
“Can I ask you something?“
You nodded and took another bite.
“Why do you hate me?“
“I don‘t hate you.“, you said without wasting a single breath.
“Huh, you sure about that?“, he chuckled.
“Kinda. Like… 80% sure, I‘d say.“
“And what are the other 20%?“
Choosing to focus on the pizza, you shrugged.
“I‘d dislike anyone who is smart, handsome and kind.“
“You think I‘m handsome?“, he asked immediately, making you clear your throat and look away. He was having a great time.
“Oh, don‘t pretend you don‘t know you‘re dreamy.“, you said with playful annoyance, “Why do you think I call you pretty boy?“
“Is that so?“
With your cheeks turning very red very quickly you took a new book from your stack and opened it to a random page. Picking up your pen, you began taking notes again.
He watched you for a bit, impressed by your dedication, then asked, “Interesting book?“
“Uh huh.“
Akaashi reached for it and turned it around.
“Then I bet it‘s gonna be even better now that it‘s right side up.“

WE NEED TO GET @iyadsobhegaza TO 10K
Iyad's daughter is very sick. There are cases of polio, chicken pox, monkey pox, and several other diseases spreading throughout Gaza right now. Young children and elderly people are the ones most at risk but with starvation and lack of clean drinking water and the general unsanitary situation, anyone can become sick very easily. And with a family of 10 including 2 elderly people and several small children, Iyad has a lot to worry about.
Tumblr media
They NEED this money both to save up for evacuation and for daily expenses like for food, water, shelter, and medicine (especially after they lost 11k due to GFM deleting their previous fundraiser which you can read about here). Everything is currently very expensive in Gaza and they were displaced yet again recently. Iyad often can't even aquire medicine for his blood pressure which tends to spike unpredictably. I CANNOT EMPHASIZE HOW URGENT THIS IS.
Iyad's previous fundraiser is #177/173 on the Vetted Gaza Fundraisers Spreadsheet and was vetted by nabulsi here. We are still waiting for it to get updated to his current P*yP*l.

Donations have been majorly slowing down as of late and it's incredibly concerning. It's getting at most 2 donations per day now and that's unacceptable. They haven't even reached 3% of their goal yet. Please donate if you are able to and if you are not, please share. Perhaps queue this a few times in advance.
$1,711/$60,000
PLEASE DONATE I CANNOT EMPHASIZE MORE HOW DIRE THE SITUATION IS

Wound Care
Ok so, take this with a BIG grain of salt, because I may be a medical doctor BUT you need to know how much wound care training we get in medical school: none. Zip. Zilch. There may be medical schools where you do, but mine wasn't a bozo factory and there was NO wound care training. Everything I know I learned from one of several sources: an intensive 2-day wound care course I did in residency (highly recommend), the local Home Health wound care nurse (highly recommend), a completely batshit insane old white male doctor who started our learning sessions by yelling Vietnam War stories at me (do not recommend), a hospital wound care nurse (highly recommend), and experience (oh god do not recommend).
The first thing you need to know is that wound healing varies dramatically across the course of a lifespan. Kids? Kids will heal. If they don't, get their ass to a pediatrician because there's something genetic going on. Young adults will heal. Middle-aged adults will heal. You know who doesn't heal for shit? The elderly, and people with severe illnesses, and people with uncontrolled type II diabetes.
Your body needs several things in order to heal. It needs macronutrients, so you need to be able to EAT protein, fat, and carbs. If you are on total parenteral nutrition, aka TPN, aka IV nutrition, you are going to be worse at healing. If you are starving yourself, you are going to be worse at healing. If your body is desperately funneling all the calories you take in to surviving your COPD or cancer, you are going to be worse at healing.
It also needs micronutrients. If your diet sucks, you won't heal. Take a multivitamin once in a while.
There are two CRITICAL skin components to healing: collagen and elastin. Guess what we stop making as we age. Promoting collagen isn't just good for "anti-aging," it's good for NOT ripping your skin apart. Taking oral collagen is probably bullshit because your body is going to have to disassemble it to get it across the intestinal membranes to absorb, but it's also harmless, and if your diet REALLY sucks, who knows. Give it a try. Collagen is made of amino acids; think protein.
Another absolutely crucial component is blood flow. As people age, they start to develop cholesterol plaques lining arteries that eventually pick up calcium deposits. This makes blood vessels less elastic, which is a problem, but eventually also blocks them off, which is a much bigger problem. If someone has the major blood flow to their feet decreased by 90% by arterial stenosis, they are not going to heal for shit AND their foot's gonna hurt.
One component of blood flow I hadn't thought about before going into medicine is fluid retention. The way your body works, blood exits the heart at a very high velocity, but slows to a crawl by the time it gets into capillaries, the smallest blood vessels in the body. Water is a very small molecule and can leave the blood vessel, especially if there aren't big, negatively-charged molecules like proteins like albumin in the blood vessels to hold the water there. And we're built for this--some water is supposed to leak out of our blood vessels when it gets to real little vessels. It gets taken back up by the lymphatic system and eventually dumped back into the bloodstream at the inferior vena cava. But if you aren't making albumin--for instance, in liver failure--you may leak a LOT of fluid into the tissue, so much that your legs get swollen, tight, the skin feeling woody and strange. This isn't fixable by drainage because the fluid is everywhere, not in a single pocket we can drain. And because it puts so much pressure on the tissues of the skin, it often results in ulcers. Congestive heart failure, liver failure, kidney failure--these are all common causes of severe edema, aka swelling due to fluid in the tissues. And they're a real bitch when it comes to wound care, because we have such limited resources for getting the fluid back out, which is a necessary first step to healing.
Pressure is another common cause of wounds. Pressure forces blood out of those little capillaries, so you starve the cells normally fed by those capillaries, and they die. It's called pressure necrosis. Very sick people who can't turn themselves over--people in the ICU, people in nursing homes--are especially prone to these wounds, as are people with limited sensation; pressure wounds are common in wheelchair users who have lost some feeling in the parts of their bodies that rub against those surfaces, or diabetics who don't notice a rock in their shoe.
So, if you're trying to treat wounds, the questions to ask are these:
Why did this wound happen?
-Was it pressure? If it's pressure, you have to offload the source of the pressure or else that wound will not heal. End of story. You can put the tears of a unicorn on that thing, if you don't offload the pressure it won't heal.
-Was it fluid? If it's fluid, you have get the fluid out of the issues or else it won't heal. You can sometimes do that with diuretics, medications that cause the body to dump water through the kidneys, but that's always threading a needle because you have to get someone to a state where they still have juuuuust enough fluid inside their blood vessels to keep their organs happy, while maintaining a very slight state of dehydration so the blood vessels suck water back in from the tissues. You can use compression stockings to squeeze fluid back into the vessels, but if they have arterial insufficiency and not just venous insufficiency, you can accidentally then cause pressure injury. The safest option is using gravity: prop the feet up above the level of the heart, wherever the heart is at, at that moment, and gravity will pull fluid back down out of the legs. Super boring though. Patients hate it. Not as much as they hate compression stockings.
-Was it a skin tear because the skin is very fragile? This is extremely common in the elderly, because they're not making collagen and elastin, necessary to repairing skin. If this is the case, make sure they're actually getting enough nutrition--as people get into their 80s and 90s, their appetites often change and diminish, especially if they're struggling with dementia. And think about just wrapping them in bubble wrap. Remove things with sharp edges from their environments. I have seen the WORST skin tears from solid wood or metal furniture with sharp edges. Get rid of throw rugs and other tripping hazards. I had somebody last week who tried to a clear a baby gate and damn near destroyed their artificial hip.
The next critical question: why isn't it healing?
-Are you getting enough nutrients? Both macro and micro?
-Are you elderly?
-Are you ill?
-Do you have a genetic disorder of collagen formation?
Fix why it's not healing and almost anything will heal. If you're diabetic, find a medication regimen that improves your sugars and stick to it. If you're anorexic, get treatment for your eating disorder. If you have congestive heart failure, work with your doctor on your fluid balance. Wear the damn pressure stockings. Prop up your feet.
If, after those two unskippable questions are done, you want to do something to the wound--apply a dressing, do a treatment--that's a whole other kettle of fish. I'll write that later. The dryer just sang me its little song and I need to put away the laundry.
