A new program announced by the Government of Nova Scotia Thursday will help create more licensed not-for-profit child-care spaces across the province.
The Early Learning and Child Care Major Infrastructure Program will spend $20 million on new construction or major renovations.
A news release(opens in a new tab) from the province says priority will be given to projects that serve diverse or vulnerable communities, communities with low child-care coverage rates and projects in publicly owned facilities.
“Child-care spaces are in high demand across the province, and we need to be innovative in how we make child care more accessible,” said Becky Druhan, Minister of Education and Early Childhood Development, in Thursday's release.
“This program, combined with the minor infrastructure and family home start-up programs, support the expansion and transformation of child care in Nova Scotia.” [...]

The world is broken.
That much is stating the obvious, whether that is on a personal level focusing purely on the everyday relationships we maintain or not. Whether that is on the slightly broader spectrum of your surroundings/your place of living, your province/state, your country, the continent or even the world, problems are staring us in the eye at almost every turn with no obvious solution in sight.
The world is broken, and honestly, I'm struggling to believe it can be fixed. I'm struggling to keep my hope for my future, for the future of my generation, for the future of the communities I am a part of and the ones I'm not, and for the future of our species.
However, I refuse to believe the world is fucked.
I don't have some groundbreaking way to solve all the world's problems (sorry 'bout that ).
It's pretty easy to point out the wrongs of the world.I have no struggle recognising the so-called "flaws" in the "system."
It's easy to realise something is wrong; all you really have to do is listen to the people suffering from those flaws.
However, I struggle to find a solution.
How do you fix systemic problems in a way that pleases everyone?
I'd like to say that I believe all we can do to fix the world is make our environment a kinder place, but what do you do when that doesn't feel like enough?
How do you speak in a way that offers hope when you yourself are steadily losing what little you had to begin with?
How do you live without feeling an insurmountable guilt for not doing more? How do you live aware of a problem when you have nothing you can do to help?
That being said.
The most important thing a human can do is survive. That has to be something we as a species can agree on.
From there on, it's unique. Our idea of survival is unique, and many people are more informed than I am about particular subjects. And I'm glad about that.
Personally, my idea of surviving and thriving even lies in learning. There is little that brings me more joy than learning.
This is kind of my way of saying please survive. Begging even. If what makes life worth living is commonly viewed as silly, dumb, a waste of space, freaky, or cringeworthy, it is not. Unless it actively harms someone, it is not any of that. It is important purely because it keeps you alive.
I understand looking at the mountains of problems this world throws at us and feeling overwhelmed by it.
So this is me extending my hand towards the world. This is me sitting on my proverbial porch with a beverage made explicitly for you, saying, "I see you. And I'm here for whatever it might be you need" Feel free to contact me.
Now, you might wonder why I'm doing this? Because I genuinely care about the state of the world and the well-being of my fellow humans. And this is the only way I can see myself able to help the world, broken as it might be.

AN OPEN LETTER to THE U.S. CONGRESS
Fund the Affordable Connectivity Program NOW!
130 so far! Help us get to 250 signers!
I’m a concerned constituent writing to urge you to fund the Affordable Connectivity Program or ACP. Digital connectivity is a basic necessity in our modern world and the internet must be treated as a public utility. We use the internet to apply for jobs, perform our jobs, receive telehealth medical treatment, and pay bills, and students use it to complete homework assignments. But for millions of people in rural and urban areas, and Tribal communities, the internet is a luxury they cannot afford. Failure by Congress to fund this program will force millions of households already on tight budgets to choose between being able to stay online or potentially losing access to this essential service. If Congress doesn’t act fast, funding for the Affordable Connectivity Program will run out and more than 22 million Americans -- 1 in 6 households -- will lose this vital service. The implications of this will be devastating. In 2019, 18% of Native people living on Tribal land had no internet access; 33% relied on cell phone service for the internet; and 39% had spotty or no connection to the internet at home on their smart phone. The ACP has enrolled 320,000 households on Tribal lands -- important progress. The largest percentage gains in broadband access are in rural areas. Nearly half of military families are enrolled in ACP, as are one in four African American and Latino households. Losing access and training on using computers and the internet will have devastating impacts on all these communities as technology becomes increasingly integral to work, education, health, and our everyday lives. Without moves to address tech inequality, low-income communities and communities of color are heading towards an “unemployment abyss.” The Affordable Connectivity Program has broad bipartisan support because it is working. As your constituent, I am urging you to push for renewed funding for the ACP before it runs out in the coming weeks.

Welcome to the Bitcoin Revolution
Tumblr media
Introduction: Welcome to “Bitcoin Revolution,” a blog dedicated to exploring the seismic shifts set to transform our world through Bitcoin and blockchain technology. As we stand on the cusp of a digital financial frontier, our discussions here will delve into the past, present, and future of money, technology, and societal change. This blog aims to equip you with knowledge and insights about the ongoing revolution in the financial sector and beyond.
The Evolution of Money: Money has evolved from simple barter systems to precious metals, then to banknotes and digital transactions. Each stage in this evolution has been revolutionary in its time, setting the foundations for the next leap. Today, Bitcoin represents the latest transformative phase, promising a future where money is not just digital but decentralized. My Youtube video on Evolution of money.
Technology’s Role in Evolution: The relentless march of technology has continuously reshaped our world. The advent of the internet democratized information; now, blockchain technology is poised to democratize money. Blockchain offers a secure, transparent way to record transactions without the need for centralized authority, paving the way for technologies like Bitcoin to flourish.
The Impact of Bitcoin: Bitcoin isn’t just a currency; it’s a radical new approach to the concept of money. With its decentralized nature, Bitcoin offers freedom from traditional banking systems, introduces privacy and security, and gives back financial control to the individual. As we adopt Bitcoin, we challenge and potentially redesign the global financial landscape.
Predictions for the Future: The potential of Bitcoin and blockchain is immense. We are likely to see impacts on everything from individual transactions to global economic structures. Challenges such as regulatory acceptance and technological scalability are significant, yet the opportunities—for unbanked populations to access financial services, for instance—are transformative.
Call to Action: Stay tuned as we dive deeper into each of these topics in future posts. Subscribe to our blog to not miss any updates, and share your thoughts and questions in the comments below. Let’s discuss and navigate this revolutionary journey together.
Closing: The revolution is not just coming; it’s already here. Through this blog, I invite you to explore, understand, and be part of the movement that might just redefine what money means in our lives. Join me in witnessing and shaping this incredible journey.

The government of Premier Doug Ford is looking to change some of the rules governing long-term care homes, including slapping higher fines on facilities that don't have air conditioning in place by this summer, CBC News has learned.
Homes that are not complying with the province's requirements for air conditioning in all resident rooms could face fines of up to $25,000 starting in mid-May, according to proposed new regulations from the Ministry of Long-Term Care.
Until now, the biggest fine handed out against a non-compliant home has been $1,100. Two homes were fined that amount last August: McCormick Home in London and Vision Nursing Home in Sarnia.
Other proposed changes would remove or loosen the educational or training requirements for certain staff. [...]
The posting says the proposed changes respond to recommendations from "a range of stakeholders, including the voices of residents and families."
The posting says changing the job qualification rules would give homes more flexibility in hiring without compromising residents' safety or quality of life.
For instance, the current regulations require cooks and other food service workers to hold minimum levels of education and training. The changes would allow homes to hire food service staff who don't have those qualifications but have relevant work experience. [...]

this might be a dumb and highly specific pet peeve but i really hate the (very common) career advice given to stem majors in Canada (especially IT/CompSci and nursing students) that we should all get TN-1 status and live/work in the US for the higher salaries, lower cost of living and lower taxes (which does objectively make it easier to build wealth)
idk i just feel like this kind of career advice really only applies to/helps if you are a (preferably rich) cishet neurotypical ablebodied white man
like yeah sure I, an openly queer woman with adhd should TOTALLY move to the borderline theocracy with a shortage on my meds right next door great idea
