[ad_1] GG News Bureau New Delhi, 21st Oct. The National Crisis Management Committee (NCMC), chaired by Cabinet Secretary Dr. T.V. Somanathan, convened today to assess the preparedness for a potential cyclone developing over the Bay of Bengal. The meeting aimed to coordinate efforts between central agencies and the state governments of Odisha and West Bengal as the cyclonic system is expected to intensify in the coming days. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) provided a detailed briefing on the current situation, indicating that the well-marked low-pressure area over the east-central Bay of Bengal is likely to evolve into a depression by October 22, followed by a cyclonic storm by October 23. The storm is predicted to move northwest, potentially making landfall along the coasts of Odisha and West Bengal, between Puri and Sagar Island, as a severe cyclonic storm on the night of October 24 or early morning October 25, with wind speeds of 100-110 kmph, gusting up to 120 kmph. State-Level Preparedness The Chief Secretaries of Odisha and West Bengal informed the NCMC about the precautionary measures being taken, including the advisories issued to fishermen to avoid venturing into the sea. Fishermen already at sea have been directed to return to safe harbors. Control rooms have been activated, and shelters, emergency services, and essential supplies are being readied. Evacuation plans are in place for people living in vulnerable coastal areas. Deployment of Emergency Teams The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has pre-positioned 14 teams in West Bengal and 11 in Odisha, prepared for immediate deployment. Additionally, the Army, Navy, and Coast Guard have stationed rescue and relief teams, alongside ships and aircraft, to aid in operations. Central ministries, including the Ministries of Power and Telecommunications, have deployed emergency teams for the rapid restoration of essential services post-cyclone. Central Coordination and Instructions Dr. Somanathan emphasized the importance of minimizing the loss of life and property, urging state governments to ensure timely evacuation of people from high-risk areas. He stressed that fishermen should be recalled from the sea without delay and that all safety measures should be in place ahead of the cyclone’s landfall. He assured the state administrations of the full support of central agencies, which remain on high alert. The Cabinet Secretary also advised the states of Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Jharkhand to be prepared for potential heavy rainfall and its effects. He underscored the need for careful water management from dam sites in affected regions to prevent flooding. Participants and Agencies Involved The meeting saw the participation of senior officials, including the Union Home Secretary, representatives from the Ministries of Petroleum & Natural Gas, Fisheries, Power, Ports, Shipping & Waterways, and Defence. Officials from Andhra Pradesh, along with the Director Generals of the IMD, NDRF, and Indian Coast Guard, also joined the discussions to ensure a unified approach to tackle the cyclone threat. With the cyclonic storm approaching, the central and state agencies are on high alert, working to ensure preparedness and minimize the impact on the coastal regions of eastern India. Arvind Kejriwal arrested, but can he run the government from jail? The recent arrest of Arvind Kejriwal, the prominent political figure and Chief Minister of Delhi, has sparked a flurry of speculation and debate. As news of his arrest spreads, one pressing question emerges: Can he continue to effectively govern from behind bars?
Arvind Kejriwal's arrest marks a significant moment in Indian politics, with implications that extend far beyond the confines of his individual circumstances. As the leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and a key player in the political landscape, Kejriwal's actions and decisions have considerable influence over the governance of Delhi, a populous and politically significant region in India. According to legal experts, there's no explicit law barring a Chief Minister from running the government while under arrest. Despite Kejriwal's detainment, he remains eligible to continue leading unless proven guilty in court, as per prevailing legal interpretations. This example was evident in cases like Lalu Prasad Yadav appointing his wife as Chief Minister during his arrest and Hemant Soren's resignation followed by his party colleague's rise in Jharkhand. However, the practicality of governing from jail raises significant challenges. While supporters maintain Kejriwal's determination to govern from confinement, logistical hurdles abound. Calling cabinet meetings or conducting administrative duties from a cell presents logistical impracticalities. Moreover, if Kejriwal remains arrested and is unable to discharge his duties effectively, the Lieutenant Governor could potentially invoke 'failure of constitutional machinery,' paving the way for presidential rule in Delhi. After this, what is your take? Can governance truly endure behind bars? Drop your comments and follow @jobaajstories for more such updates!

[ad_1] GG News Bureau Chandigarh, 17th Oct. Nayab Singh Saini, the unexpected star of the BJP’s victory in the Haryana assembly elections, was sworn in as the state’s Chief Minister on Thursday. The ceremony, held at Dussehra Ground, was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and a host of leaders from the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). The event saw thousands gathered as Haryana Governor Bandaru Dattatreya administered the oath to Saini, a low-profile leader from the OBC community, and 13 other ministers. The BJP’s power-packed presence on stage featured chief ministers, ministers, and allies, symbolizing a strong message of unity. The choice of Valmiki Jayanti for the swearing-in further underscored the party’s strategic outreach to Dalits, as Valmiki is a revered figure for his contribution to Hindu literature through the epic Ramayana. Prime Minister Modi congratulated Saini and his cabinet, highlighting the team’s potential for delivering effective governance. “This government will realize the dreams of people and take the state’s development to a new high,” he posted on X (formerly Twitter). He emphasized the commitment of the “double engine government” to serving various sections of society, including the poor, farmers, youth, and women. Expressing gratitude, Saini thanked the 2.8 crore people of Haryana for their support and acknowledged the prime minister’s leadership. “For the third time with full majority, the BJP government will work with full energy for good governance, equality, and welfare of the poor,” he stated on X after his second swearing-in as Chief Minister. The 54-year-old Saini, who replaced M.L. Khattar as the party’s choice for chief minister, silenced critics by leading the BJP to a crucial win in the assembly elections, which many believed might favor the Congress. This victory marks the BJP’s third consecutive government in Haryana—a strategic boost for the party ahead of upcoming assembly elections in Maharashtra and Jharkhand. The BJP secured 48 seats in the 90-member Haryana assembly, with support from three Independents, including Hisar MLA Savitri Jindal. The new 13-member council of ministers includes notable leaders like Anil Vij, a seven-time MLA, and representatives from various castes and regions, ensuring balanced representation. Among the ministers are two women, former Congress leader Shruti Choudhary and first-time MLA Arti Singh, who took their oaths in English and Hindi, respectively. The Saini cabinet includes a diverse array of leaders, including five OBC members, two Dalits, two Jats, and two Brahmins, aiming for inclusive governance. The ministry also reflects regional diversity, with leaders from the Ahirwal belt, the GT Road belt, and the Faridabad-Palwal region. Following the ceremony, Saini paid respects at Valmiki Bhawan, a gurdwara, and the Mansa Devi temple in Panchkula, emphasizing his connection to cultural and religious roots. He reiterated his commitment to implementing the BJP’s ‘Sankalp Patra’ (election manifesto). The swearing-in ceremony witnessed the presence of top BJP leaders, including Union Ministers Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, Nitin Gadkari, and BJP President J.P. Nadda, alongside chief ministers from BJP-ruled states such as Yogi Adityanath (Uttar Pradesh), Himanta Biswa Sarma (Assam), and Bhupendra Patel (Gujarat). NDA partner N. Chandrababu Naidu, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, also attended, celebrating the party’s achievement. “This is the confidence people are having in PM Modi. That’s why it is a big victory. The mood of the nation is very clear,” Naidu told reporters. LJP leader and Union Minister Chirag Paswan lauded the win, attributing the success to PM Modi’s leadership, Home Minister Amit Shah’s policies, and the organizational strength of BJP President J.P. Nadda. As the BJP and its allies gear up for crucial elections in Maharashtra and Jharkhand, Saini’s appointment and the show of strength in Haryana are expected to galvanize party supporters and maintain momentum in the upcoming polls.
Following the oath-taking, NDA leaders convened for a chief minister’s council meeting, strategizing for the political battles ahead.
