ok so….
ik im kinda late but i just watched the dnd:Hat movie and HOLY HELL. WHY ARENT MORE PEOPLE TALKING AVOUT THIS??????
like i get it, its targeted towards more of a niche group but come on. It’s dnd, found family, amazing comedy, tons of angst, and honestly a pretty sound plot.
ONTOP OF THAT, why is no one talking about Simon and doric???? Like thats a quality ship right there. Those two were actually the cutest and probably my favourite characters. And at the end when he asked to try their relationship again and got all excited when she said yes? AGEIFUWVROWOPRHWVQISGE
anyway I just wish more people would watch and talk about it. Feel free to forget this post now.

One of the little details I liked about Dungeons and Dragons: Honour amongst Thieves is this bit from the graveyard scene:
"What's your favourite food?"
Undead Barbarian Dude:
"Oats.No, barley!"
And not, you know roast boar or something.
Feels like someone who knows a bit about ancient cultures added that 😁 (also goes well with Holga's love for potatoes.)

Siobhan Reviews Movies : Dungeons and Dragons : Honour Amongst Theives
Tumblr media
Due to bad drivers, I missed the first few minutes of this movie. I'll have to watch it again. Because that was fun. And it was better than I had hoped for in a dnd movie.
8/10

I saw the D&D movie for the first time last night, and it was actually pretty good, would rate it a solid 9/10. Most jokes landed, the party dynamics are on point and it includes Owlbears. What more could a guy want?

David Durham played Gwen and Elyan's father, Tom the Blacksmith, in two episodes in Merlin season one.
Durham studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama as a violinist. He is also a singer and specializes in classical baritone, and has performed many times in the opera.
His most recent project was an acting role in Dungeons and Dragons: Honour Amongst Thieves.

Anyways good night all, I spent all night watching One Piece, no regrets here. Had a hell of a time and now it's being added to my list of media I would die for, along with Dungeons and Dragons: Honour Amongst Thieves, Across the Spiderverse and Mentopolis. They are my blorbos. I finally have blorbos now

I was tagged by @meeplanguage. Thank you! Sorry it took me a while to do lol.
Favourite colour: Blue. Specifically royal or sky blue.
Last song: Green Green Grass by George Ezra
Last movie: I think it was Christine (dir. John Carpenter.)
Currently watching: Critical Role
Other Stuff I Watched This Year: Good Omens, Ghosts (both the BBC and CBS versions. The BBC one is better imo.), Our Flag Means Death, Staged, His Dark Materials, Critical Role, The Fall of the House of Usher, the Barbie movie, Dungeons and Dragons (Honour Amongst Thieves), Nerdy Prudes Must Die, Nightmare Time, Hillywood, Renfield and my usual Youtube nonsense.
Shows I Dropped This Year: I'm slowly but surely falling out of love with the MCU. I haven't seen Loki Season 2 yet. (Though I probably will at some point.) Otherwise, there's a couple of youtubers I don't watch any more, I guess? And some streamers on Twitch too, mainly because they stream when I'm not available to watch and I can't be bothered keeping up with their VODs.
Currently reading: I have so many Audiobooks on the go all at once because unfortunately none are holding my interest for very long. I still want to finish them though. At the moment, I'm bouncing between The Amber Spyglass by Phillip Pullman, Kith and Kin (The CR novel) and a short novel about Richard Chase called Vampire.
Currently listening to: See the aforementioned Audiobooks. Included in that is Felicia Day's Audible original Third Eye. Also my usual podcasts - Last Podcast on the Left, Morbid, Necronomipod, Escape from Vault Disney and What Went Wrong. This week, I finished Re: Dracula.
Currently working on: I'd say my Good Omens Big Bang fic, but that's finished, so...
I'm currently GMing two games a week at the moment: VtM set in Adelaide, and Scion 1st edition. I've gotta keep on top of my notes for those games, because there's a lot going on in each!
I've also just applied for a new job so... yay?
Current obsession: Good Omens (in particular anything to do with Crowley and Aziraphale's wings). I'm getting back into VtM too because I'm running a game in it again, and with that comes my true crime interests. I'm also recently very interested in the Starkid Hatchetfied stuff, and the Lords in Black in particular. This year, my love for Dead by Daylight came back, and I'm trying to get achievements done in it.
I tag @cravatfiend, @gated, @bixbiboom, @laurenthemself, @mossy-skully @parahyaenabrunnea and @rosettyller

My friends and I watched Dungeons and Dragons; Honour amongst Thieves.
Me: wait is her makeup lopsided or is it just me? (About evil sorceress woman)
My friend: yeah but who's gonna say something? They are too terrified. Would you say something?
Me: yeah. Hihi. Yeah, I would say, madame, your eyeshadow, uuh..
Que both of us giggling
My other friend: omg we are in a cinema people are looking at us!
Anyway we really enjoyed it! Though I'm so jealous of Doric's hair and being. And I have such difficulty with remembering the names.

2023 Retrospective: TV Shows, Movies and other Music
This is not being ranked. I’m just gonna talk about TV Shows and Movies I watched this year, as well as one artist that released a banger album, which I could not fit in anywhere else. So, let’s start out with:
Other Music
Måneskin
Yeah, the RUSH! Album is really fantastic. I don’t really know what to tell you. GOSSIP was randomly recommended to me, and I couldn’t stop listening to the entire album afterwards. My favourite song of it right now is probably either OWN MY MIND of GASOLINE, but it is a great all round package. If you like rock music, I really recommend you check this out.
TV Shows and Movies
Kamen Rider Geats
Technically this show started in 2022, but it finished in 2023, so I’ll count it regardless. This was the first Kamen Rider Season I watched while airing and honestly? I don’t regret it. It’s probably not my favourite Kamen Rider Season, that title will most likely remain with Build for a while, but God damn, is Ace just a fun main rider to watch. Because I can’t deny it: I love it when a character is an asshole with a heart of gold. He also gives me gender envy. I also really like the design of the rider forms (particularly Geats Mach 2 and Nago Fantasy) and the fact that there are multiple female riders that get a lot of screen time throughout the entire season. The fandom got really weird for a while though, which was not enjoyable. But hey, I guess that’s just normal with Toku shows.
Oppenheimer
Yeah, this might be one of the best directed movies I have ever seen. It’s 3 Hours of talking, but it never drags, and it never feels like anything should have been left on the cutting room floor. Cillian Murphy is also really fantastic as Oppenheimer, and I really hope he finally wins an Oscar for this movie. He would absolutely deserve it.
Barbie
It only feels right to put this one after Oppenheimer. I didn’t like it as much, but it certainly was one of the most movies to ever movie. I wish it had been a bit campier and actually stuck with the commentary they were doing, because it does backpedal at the end, when it gets to Mattel. It’s still their product after all, so you can’t portray them as irredeemable villains, but they really got of way too easy. Just saying. The set and costume design is off the charts though and Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling are fantastic in their respective roles.
Nimona
This movie is just a delight to watch. It’ll make you laugh, but it’ll also emotionally destroy you and leave you weeping in a puddle by the end. According to fans of the graphic novel, it deviates a lot from the actual ending, but I really loved the conclusion, so I can’t complain too much about that. All of the voice actors did a fantastic job and the chemistry between the characters is perfect.
Bokura no Shokutaku/Our Dining Table
The Toku to BL pipeline is going strong with two main riders starring in this show. Both Iijima Hiroki and Inukai Atsuhiro are absolutely fantastic in this show and at this point I don’t know why I’m still surprised with Inukai’s performances. He always gives 200%. This show is really wholesome, but also sad. It explores how trauma can stem from the seemingly smallest thing, which is something that really needs to be explored more in media. It’s probably one of my favourite shows this year.
Heartstopper Season 2
The second season diverges a lot from the Webtoon, but in a good way. It expands the universe, so to say. It also starts to deal with more serious themes yet keeps you in this bubble of queer warmth which is beautiful. There is also a canon asexual character, so that’s also a win. My favourite character this season was Tao. Mostly because every time he opens his mouth I think: “He’s just like me for real.” William Gao really does a great job.
Dungeons and Dragons: Honour Amongst Thieves
This is just a really good fantasy movie, regardless of if you play DnD. I watched this one together with my DnD party though, which was really hilarious, because our DM constantly went: “You are just as stupid as them”. Aside from that, the technical aspects of this movie are also really great. The practical effects are really stunning and the VFX look just as good. Chris Pine is also the best Hollywood Chris.
The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes
I watched this movie together with my colleagues because the company I work for contributed the COVID tests for the filming done in Germany. So, whenever we recognised a set, we would immediately point it out. Some shots from District 12 and the Capitol were filmed in Duisburg and Berlin respectively, in case anyone is interested. But yeah, I wouldn’t have watched this movie, if it wasn’t for that. To be fair, the performances were really good, and I liked the songs, but it does kind off feel… weird. Like, some of the plot advancements seem contrived.
Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny
My father is a big fan of the franchise and Harrison Ford, so he dragged me and my mother to see this movie. It was not the worst, but god, was it a drag at times. The entire opening scene, where they de-aged Harrison Ford was so badly lit, that I almost couldn’t see any of the action. The main villain’s plan doesn’t make any sense. The ending seems purposefully left open, even though we don’t want or need a new movie. I can’t believe I’d say this, but just let Indy die.

Ngl gotg 3 did what love and thunder failed to do because it waa TOO silly
I haven't seen it and don't really want to. I never liked the Guardians movies for the most part. I'll take your word for that.
BUT what I will say is that after Disney fired James Gunn, then realised they'd fucked up and scrambled to rehire him, he got his own universe to run and, well, the Mouse can't touch him. He could do whatever he wanted. They probably weren't going to interfere with Guardians 3 too much.
Just my conjecture.
But you're right about TLAT being frustrating in how silly it was when it really didn't need to be. I had so much faith that Taika could make the balance work, I remember assuring so many people that he knew what he was doing, but lol I didn't factor in that Disney as a studio breathes down your neck and doesn't really understand what made people like Ragnarok*. They are good at running perfectly good things into the ground though. Sigh.
I'm so frustrated at how badly my favourite comic was adapted, how badly the point of Jane's story was missed and how much potential was squandered.
But it's funny- there WERE other things released around TLAT that did the stuff I wanted from TLAT better. Stranger Things season 4 was an amazing balance of humour with intense action. It had a KICK ASS soundtrack, an amazing homage to my favourite sci-fi and fantasy heavy metal imagery from the 80s, and emotional payoff that I'm still reeling from over a year later.
Dungeons and dragons: Honour Amongst Thieves did high fantasy in a way I always wanted from the terrible sword and sorcery movies I love from the early 80s as well- with charm and incredible practical effects that echo things like Hawk the Slayer or The Sword and the Sorcerer but like... In a good way.
Ditto Willow (FUCK YOU DISNEY).
And yeah, the comics are still there. If you want to see a good Thor story, you just read the source material.
But... I don't know. I'm so done with this franchise. Being away from it and it's fandom has been a boon to my mental health. I miss the excitement and the anticipation, but I cannot face the hype cycle again.
Sod that.
*I don't either tbf but I'm not in charge of a multimillion dollar franchise so 🤷‍♀️
