Opinion: we need to stop making fun of sephora kids and instead acknowledge that literal nine-year-old kids are learning at such a young age that they already have to preserve their youth and fight signs of 'early aging' while not even being a TEENAGER. like that’s genuinely insane to me. at that age, the only skincare they should be using is water and sunscreen. the real problem here is that literal children are so terrified of aging that they have full-blown sobbing fits when you deny them a 100-dollar-drunk elephant retinol.

Drunk Mûmakil Cream: The Most Dreamy Cream in All of Middle Earth
by Marigold (Gamgee) Baggins
(probably edited for spelling and grammar by Frodo Baggins)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(image from sephora.com) (the premise)
Hello, everyone!
Mr. Frodo, Sam, and my sisters all thought that it would be a good idea for me to write an account of my favorite gift that I got for my wedding, so here we are!
We got so many wonderful things that it was difficult to pick just one, but in the end, I settled on the "Drunk Mûmakil" cream from Queen Arwen. Apparently, trade with Harad has resumed, and so the creams made with exotic oils from the South can be found in Gondor once again! Lady Arwen wrote a very kind letter saying that the cream was meant to preserve my youth, and that is no bad thing, I think, even if Mr. Frodo always tells me that he will love me even when I am old and wrinkled.
I don't know who came up with such a funny name, "Drunk Mûmakil," but that's the first wonderful thing about it! Mr. Frodo and Sam say that they saw a Mûmakil, or an Oliphaunt as we call it in the Shire, and they think that an Oliphaunt or a Mûmakil is a fearsome thing to behold at the best of times. I also reckon that a drunk mûmakil would wreak perfect havoc wherever it went, so I was a little worried at first. I certainly hoped that it was only a name meant to attract the eye, and no indication of the substance of the thing!
I was also a wee bit worried about trying it at first because it came from so far away, and from such noble givers, and I am not yet used to fine things at all. But in the end, I was not disappointed.
The lavender box is such a lovely color, but beneath the lid, there is a special pump, and all you have to do is press it, and it will dispense just as much as you need. No waste at all with this little box, and this alone would earn it top marks in my book. On top of that, though, the cream itself is the most wonderful, creamy, dreamy concoction! My skin immediately felt like the ground, thirsty and soaking up water from a summer rainstorm!
I must admit, I am always running here and there, taking care of my husband and other folks, and it's always either the sun or the cold or the steam that's putting my skin through the paces. I make my own creams with oil, tallow, and soothing herbs, but nothing I've ever made can hold a candle to this stuff.
Lady Arwen's letter said that there is a serum and an eye cream, too, that Drunk Mûmakil makes, and if I have a mind, there is a place I can write and they can be shipped to me. I have to own, I'd dearly love to have it, but I hardly wish to waste Mr. Frodo's money!

Cus why are 10-11 year olds storming into Sephora and Ulta for drunk elephant and making “skincare smoothies” which Drunk Elephant described as this
Tumblr media
Now, Imma just say this, but letting 10-11-year-olds mix products and then apply it to their face is probably not a good idea. There’s a reason many skincare products say to rinse your face afterward. Also, I doubt a tween in elementary school would know what their skin needs if its not said on tiktok. Moving on, the Sephora kids are also making a mess of the testers and just generally being barbaric and disrespectful to the employees and other customers in Sephora and Ulta.
These videos go into detail way more than I ever could:

Honestly, if the 10-12-year-olds are going to like animals and destroy everything they touch every time there’s a new skincare trend, then I am 100% in support of an age limit in Sephora and Ulta( I would suggest ages 16+ for alone shopping, and anyone under that has to be supervised by an adult).
I'm 18, a young adult, a technical teenager(and that only lasts for one more year. I'm turning 19 in exactly one month from today), and I'm scared to be living in a world where those tweens are gonna grow up to be teens and adults that I have to deal with in the workplace and daily life. The worst part is that they're going to act this way the next time there's a skincare trend(which is basically every other month).

So I'm in my mid 20s and never really cared about skin care but my sisters lately have been pushing me to take of my skin. Last christmas my older sister gave me a sephora sample bag, with about 20 different products each with a week's supply.
My favorite, and what I asked that sister for this year, was Drunk Elephant.
Now my tiktok is full of people saying their 10 year old relative is asking for it and I don't know how to feel.

So I went to Ulta today just to get some skincare, like moisturizer and makeup remover, and there were these two girls there. These girls seemed to be about 7 and 8 y/o, and the older one was walking around telling her mom how if they have Bubble she needs to get some. She couldn’t find any so she asked an employee who showed her were it was, it was near where she was standing! She just could fucking see it because she was to young and short to see the top part! The shelves aren’t even that tall maybe about 4”8 ft! And she grabbed the anti aging stuff brought it to her mom and said “I need this stuff I keep getting lines right here” and POINTED TO HER SMILE LINES! Babe you’re a little kid please keep smiling!!!! And the mother allowed it! Parents your children do not need intricate skin care, not until they are like 12!

Next in Skincare ...

I've been searching for a more gentle cleansing option for the morning. I feel like the current cleanser I use is too harsh on my skin. I came to this realization after skipping my morning face cleanse for a few days and realized how much clearer and less inflamed my skin was. I do wear a heavy night cream and I generally have oily skin, so I do want to still cleanse in the morning, just not as deep as a cleanse as before. I think using just a micellar water would be perfect! I remember I watched Cindy Bruna's Harper's Bazaar nighttime routine and she just cleansed with micellar water and her skin is great!
youtube
There are so many micellar water options on the market. Most popular is Garnier micellar water which I've used in the past, but I'm actually obsessed with the Thayer's milky toner! I love the consistency and hydration and I essentially use it like a toner/serum, so I want to try the Drunk Elephant micellar water because it has a similar milky texture.

I hope every single one of these pre-teens buying retinol and acid skincare products because an influencer told them to realizes that they're going to do longterm damage to their skin, because their skin is young and does not need retinol, or acid peels, or any of that shit. Especially since you know retinol makes you highly sensitive to the sun and those 9-year-olds aren't out there wearing adequate sunscreen.
Y'all gonna look like Yzma before you're 18 because you can't think for yourselves and your parents don't care enough about you to do 5 minutes of research into what their kid is slathering all over their skin.
