Bauers HR In 8th Seals Mariners Win.
Twins 3 Mariners 4 W-Sewald (3-2) L-Robles (2-3) SV-Steckenrider (1)
The Minnesota Twins headed back out on the road after a rough homestand. Their first stop was in Seattle to face a middle of the road Mariners team. The Twins got cooking in the first inning as Jorge Polanco led-off with a single to center. Nelson Cruz singled to left with one out and Trevor Larnach followed with a run-scoring single to right. Marco Gonzales got out of the jam, but the Twins still led by a run after half an inning of play. The Mariners finally found a run in the third when JP Crawford led-off with a double to right. Jake Fraley singled him home to tie the game up at one apiece. Kenta Maeda continued to get out of jams and the Twins offense got back to work. Alex Kirilloff drilled a Marco Gonzales fastball out to center for a solo homer and the Twins took a 2-1 lead. Two batters later, Gilberto Celestino turned on a Marco Gonzales fastball and sent it out to left. It was his first Major League homer and the Twins had a two-run lead after four innings of play. The Mariners got into the Twins bullpen in the fifth and they took advantage. Jake Fraley drew a one-out walk and Ty France doubled him home to pull the Mariners within a run. With two outs, Dylan Moore delivered a run-scoring triple to center and the game was tied at three apiece. The bullpens took over and put up a few zeroes. Jake Bauers broke the tie when he belted a Hansel Robles change-up out to center for a solo homer. Drew Steckenrider threw a 1-2-3 ninth and the Mariners picked up the win tonight.
-Final Thoughts- Kenta Maeda got constantly in and out of trouble in his return. He went four innings and allowed a run on three hits with three walks and seven strikeouts. Luke Farrell gave up two runs in the fifth, Jorge Acala had a clean sixth, and Tyler Duffey had a scoreless seventh. Hansel Robles gave up the go-ahead homer in the eighth. Nelson Cruz led the way with three hits on the day. Trevor Larnach had two hits. Byron Buxton wont be activated for a day or two as he is sore from his rehab games. The Twins hit 1-for-7 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base. Tomorrow, JA Happ faces Chris Flexen in Game 2 from Seattle.

Prospect Profiles: Miami Marlins
MLB A look at the farm system of the Miami Marlins After finishing the season with a 79-82 record, the Miami Marlins entered the off-season with some questions. One of those questions arose when young and budding star Jose Fernandez was tragically killed in a boating accident in September. The loss of their ace prompted the Marlins to sign Edinson Volquez to a two-year deal this off-season. It is…

Mariners Edge Twins 2-1 On Opening Day.
Mariners 2 Twins 1 W-Ray (1-0) L-Ryan (0-1) SV-Steckenrider (1)
The Minnesota Twins opened up a highly anticipated 2022 season this afternoon against the Mariners at Target Field. The Mariners bats got cooking in the first inning as Ty France was hit in the arm with a pitch with one out. Two batters later, Mitch Haniger drilled a Joe Ryan fastball out to left for a two-run homer. This put Seattle up by a pair of runs before the Twins grabbed a bat. Joe Ryan settled down and Robbie Ray threw three shutout innings. The Twins got on the board in the fourth when Gio Urshela smoked a Robbie Ray curveball out to left for a solo homer. This cut the Twins deficit in half through four innings. The Twins bullpen was solid throwing five shutout innings, but Robbie Ray was sensational. He threw seven solid innings and allowed just three hits. Paul Sewald had a 1-2-3 eighth and Drew Steckenrider came on for the ninth. Luis Arraez led-off with a pinch-hit single to start the ninth. Steckenrider retired the next three batters as the Mariners took the opener from the Twins this afternoon in Minneapolis.
-Final Thoughts- Joe Ryan was good after the first inning. He went four innings and allowed two runs on two hits with four walks and four strikeouts. He threw 70 pitches in all. Jhoan Duran allowed hits to the first two batters he faced then a curveball for a strike got him back in the strikezone. He struck out the side in the fifth and had a scoreless sixth. Jorge Alcala got in and out of trouble in the seventh. Danny Coulombe threw two shutout innings with three strikeouts. The Twins scattered four hits and went 0-for-4 with runners in scoring position. The offense had a tough time against Robbie Ray. Tomorrow, Logan Gilbert faces Sonny Gray in Game 2.

Paul Sewald Shows Us Why Vertical Approach Angle Matters
Paul Sewald Shows Us Why Vertical Approach Angle Matters
One of the biggest reasons the Mariners have stuck around the fringes of the AL wild card race despite a -60 run differential has been the collective performance of their bullpen. Kendall Graveman had established himself as a bonafide relief ace before being traded to the Astros in late-July, and Drew Steckenrider has revived his career after falling apart in Miami two years ago. But equally…

Seattle Mariners-Minnesota Twins Series Preview
4.8.22-Robbie Ray LHP (1-0) 4.61 ERA Vs. Joe Ryan RHP (0-0) 0.00 ERA
4.9.22- Logan Gilbert RHP (0-1) 7.20 ERA Vs. Sonny Gray RHP (1-0) 0.00 ERA
4.10.22-Marco Gonzalez LHP (1-1) 4.08 ERA Vs. Bailey Ober RHP (2-0) 1.50 ERA
4.11.22-Chris Flexen RHP (0-0) 7.31 ERA Vs. Dylan Bundy RHP (0-0) 3.00 ERA
(2022 Spring Training Stats)
The Mariners At A Glance- The Mariners are an intriguing team in 2022. They have lots of young talent and some pitching. Seattle had a nice offseason acquiring Jesse Winker and Eugenio Suarez from the Reds. They picked up Adam Frazier from the Padres. Julio Rodriguez made the Opening Day roster and he is one of the best young prospects in the game. Jarred Kelenic is a good young outfielder as well. The M’s did lose Kyle Seager, who retired in the winter. Tyler Anderson is now a Dodger and the Twins picked up Joe Smith in free agency. The Mariners lineup will feature a good amount of power with Jesse Winker, Mitch Haniger, and Eugenio Suarez leading the way. Adam Frazier provides more contact at the top of the order. JP Crawford can pick it at shortstop. One of the underrated thing about Seattle is their starting rotation. Robbie Ray won the Cy Young Award last year with the Blue Jays and heads to the Pacific Northwest. Logan Gilbert showed some promised in his rooke year in 2021 with over a strikeout per inning. Marco Gonzales is a crafty lefty and Chris Flexen has figured out how to pitch. Paul Sewald and Drew Steckenrider will be at the back end of the bullpen. Sergio Romo and Diego Castillo will get some innings late as well. Ken Giles has a finger injury and Casey Sadler has a sore shoulder. Both will miss some time early in the season.
The Twins At A Glance- The Twins were one of the most active teams in the offseason. They added some big pieces to their lineup in Gary Sanchez, Carlos Correa, and Gio Urshela, Gary Sanchez and Ryan Jeffers will split duties behind the plate, but the Twins do not have much depth behind them at catcher. Miguel Sano and Alex Kirilloff will play a majority of first base. Jorge Polanco, Carlos Correa, and Gio Urshela round out the infield as Luis Arraez and Nick Gordon will be utility infielders. Alex Kirilloff is poised to break out in his first full year in the Majors. Byron Buxton and Max Kepler need to stay healthy and both look to have productive seasons. The team needed pitching and got that in Sonny Gray, Chris Paddack, Chris Archer, and Dylan Bundy. The starting staff should be better with young pitchers moving to the higher levels of the minor leagues. The Twins don’t have an apparent closer after Taylor Rogers was traded. Emilio Pagan has experience and Tyler Duffey was a closer in college at Rice. Joe Smith, Caleb Thielbar, and Jorge Alcala should get high leverage roles to start the year. It’ll be interesting to see how the roles emerge for Jhoan Duran and Josh Winder. Duran looked unhittable in Spring Training.
-What To Watch For- The Mariners went (4-2) against the Twins in 2021. This will be the third time in five years that the Mariners play the Twins for the home opener in Minneapolis. The weather at Target Field has historically been good for the home opener and this year marks the first time that Opening Day or the home opener was postponed in the history of the ballpark. The coldest home opener at Target Field was in 2013 when it was 36 degrees. Robbie Ray is (1-1) with a 6.91 ERA in four games against the Twins. Sonny Gray is (5-3) with a 2.84 ERA in twelve starts against the M’s. Marco Gonzales is (0-2) with a 9.42 ERA in three starts versus the Twins. Chris Flexen has a 3.46 ERA in two starts against the Twins. Dylan Bundy is (3-3) with a 2.70 ERA in nine games versus the Mariners. Carlos Correa has hit five homers and knocked in twenty runs in fifteen career games at Target Field. He also homered in Game 2 of the 2020 American League Wild-Card series at Target Field. These two teams made some bold moves this offseason. The Mariners picked up Robbie Ray and traded for Eugenio Suarez and Jesse Winker. The Twins added Carlos Correa, Sonny Gray, and Chris Paddack. This should be a good series against two teams that may surprise baseball this year.

Alonso hits first career homer in Mets' win over Marlins
Pete Alonso clubbed his maiden MLB home run as the New York Mets defeated the Miami Marlins 7-3.
Mets first baseman Alonso crushed a 444-foot homer – the last of New York's runs – in Monday's victory against the Marlins.
The two teams traded scores until the seventh inning. The Marlins were the first on the board with a Starlin Castro two-run home run in the opening frame.
New York answered in the second and fourth innings, and Miami plated another in the sixth to take a 3-2 lead. But, that would stop the Marlins scoring and the Mets took over from there.
Before Alonso's final blast, Juan Lagares hit a game-tying home run and Amed Rosario added an RBI in the ninth.
Jeurys Familia was awarded the win and Drew Steckenrider took the loss, with Castro the only player to score for Miami.
Kiermaier key to Rays win
Kevin Kiermaier went two for three with a run scored and four RBIs in the Tampa Bay Rays' 7-1 win over the Colorado Rockies.
The Atlanta Braves bullpen threw five innings of scoreless relief in their 8-0 shutout of the Chicago Cubs. It was Atlanta's first win of the season.
Rockies struggle at the plate
The Rockies strung together six hits and only one run against the Rays. Three batters were 0 for four at the plate — Trevor Story, Ryan McMahon and Ian Desmond — and three more were 0 for three.
Pittsburgh Pirates reliever Richard Rodriguez allowed two hits and three runs (two earned) without recording an out in his team's 6-5 extra-innings loss to the St Louis Cardinals.
Springer with the lead-off homer
Houston Astros outfielder George Springer accomplished a career first after sending a lead-off home run over the left-field wall. Springer started Houston's scoring in the first and they went on to beat the Texas Rangers 2-1.
Aaron Judge stretched out for this impressive catch during the New York Yankees' 3-1 victory against the Detroit Tigers.
Monday's results
St Louis Cardinals 6-5 Pittsburgh Pirates Cleveland Indians 5-3 Chicago White Sox New York Yankees 3-1 Detroit Tigers Milwaukee Brewers 4-3 Cincinnati Reds Baltimore Orioles 6-5 Toronto Blue Jays Atlanta Braves 8-0 Chicago Cubs Tampa Bay Rays 7-1 Colorado Rockies New York Mets 7-3 Miami Marlins Houston Astros 2-1 Texas Rangers Oakland Athletics 7-0 Boston Red Sox San Francisco Giants 4-2 Los Angeles Dodgers Arizona Diamondbacks 10-3 San Diego Padres Seattle Mariners 6-3 Los Angeles Angels
Phillies at Nationals
Tuesday will mark the first of 19 matchups between the Philadelphia Phillies and Washington Nationals. It also marks the first time Bryce Harper will return to Washington after he signed with Philadelphia as a free agent this offseason. There are a lot of storylines in this game. How will the fans react? Will Harper help the Phillies keep their perfect record intact? How will Nationals ace Max Scherzer do against his former team-mate?
