The House of Mugs in Collettsville, North Carolina is located in Caldwell County. The House of Mugs (AKA the Collettsville Cup House) is a true labor of love created one nail and mug at a time.
At the very end of an unpaved country road stands a cozy home, completely covered in coffee mugs. The owners, Avery and Doris Sisk, created their quirky attraction almost by accident. It started over 15 years ago with a box-lot of 15 mugs picked up at a flea market. It seemed like a good décor decision at the time, so they hung them up.
More and more have been added over the years, and now – at least 20,000 mugs later – Avery and Doris have created a destination. Their cabin in the woods is dripping in cups and mugs of all kinds, the gates and fencing too.
The Sisks are both artists as well as collectors, welcoming and happy to show off their home. If you catch them on the porch you’ll likely be invited inside to see their other collections of dolls and police memorabilia too, but it’s the cups and mugs are what draw people in. Most have been collected by the Sisks themselves, but some have been added by the tourists who stop, something the Sisks encouraged. If you can find an empty nail, you’re welcome to leave one too.
Know Before You Go:
There's no charge to see the Sisk's collection, but donations are welcome. To see the Cup House, follow NC Route 90 north/west out of Collettsville for about half a mile and turn left onto Old Johns River Road. Follow for about 2 & 1/2 miles to a gravel road turn-off on the right. Bear right onto the gravel road and follow all the way to the end. No GPS out there, but locals will generally know where the Cup House is, in case you need to ask for directions.

your words are motivational, i request more to consume
My hometown has a famous rich man named Gary, and he likes to buy up all the property and then let it rot rather than actually doing anything with it. He supposedly cares about the town but the townspeople don't really like him because he is actively contributing to the fact that it's dying. The thing is this town has less than 900 people. It's not really much to write home about, and most of them are probably somewhere below the poverty line. It's rough living out there with a lot of loose dogs and rusty crap riding in people's yards and generally just sort of run down. You can imagine that the disparity between his income and the rest of the town and his actions leading to the buildings rotting on Main Street would piss me off a little bit right?
"Well Ivy," you might be asking me, "how did Gary make his money? Why does he own all this shit and what does this matter?"
Well, part of how he keeps his money is he moves around a lot to avoid taxes, but he charges people $3,000 a pop to come down to his run-down bed and breakfast in a shitty dying mill town off highway 73 to do spiritual retreats. For you see, this man is a self-proclaimed psychic medium and healer. He's going on TV and been interviewed by celebrities and all manner of crap like that. The thing is though, he looks like this:

How anyone has ever taken this man seriously for his entire career is beyond me. I have met him before and he's pretty nice but there's a degree of strangeness to it. Supposedly he really hates being compared to q-tips. To be honest, I don't really know why he finds that offensive considering he chose to look like this. He does also insist that's his real hair, or at least a weave that's been woven into it, but I'm fairly sure he keeps a spare in a drawer.
Anyways I'm the second most famous person from my hometown, this guy is the first. Jod help us all.
