really the big problem with "bigots hate all of us equally" (aside from being demonstrably untrue) is that it posits that the majority of the problems faced by trans women (and trans people in general) come from a small-but-loud bigot class, rather than a widespread systemic failure to regard trans people (and women especially) as people.

This is obviously bad, because failing to understand how oppression works guarantees an inability to do something about it. I think the reason you end up seeing it so often anyways is because it allows one to excuse themself of engaging in this exact behavior, and convince themself that screaming at trans women on the internet is some kind of community-building action, rather than the exercise of power against a vulnerable class that it obviously is.
