The Story So Far fine-tunes its new sound with "Letterman"

The Story So Far just released a brand new studio single titled Letterman, accompanied by a new version of the band's latest single release, Big Blind. Many people associate this band with the 2010s pop-punk scene, and for good reason. They became one of the forefront bands of the new wave of the genre at the time, keeping the scene alive at a time when some of the bigger groups were either not very active or doing something completely different.

As all bands grow and mature over time, The Story So Far also continually expands its scope in order to keep things fresh and interesting for themselves as musicians and, hopefully, for the audience.

The band's recent single, Letterman, is a great example. This is not your average on-the-nose pop-punk song. Instead, it offers a more subdued approach to the genre. The sound is focused on articulation, with prominent melodic guitar leads and jangly tones that create an amazing synergy with Parker Cannon's vocals, which are always distinctive, especially in the way he is able to build layered harmonies.

The reworking of the song Big Blind is also an indication of where the band is going. The previously released version had a much more unpolished intensity to it, whereas the newer mix has a clearer and tamed sound, but not in a negative way. You can actually appreciate the guitar work a lot more, especially with the leads being more focused and detailed. The song feels a lot more fluid this way and matches where the band is at right now.

While some of the group's old-school fans might long for a return to the early formula that made the band so successful, The Story So Far is actually moving into a very original and interesting direction, and they've been doing so ever since their album "What You Don't See," which was a pivotal moment in their career, signifying their willingness to move past the stereotypical pop-punk sound of the 2010s.

Something quite special happens when Shoegaze goes over the edge to dive into the hardest-hitting side of the genre. It’s a combination of mesmerizing soundscapes and angsty vocals that channel urgency and contemplation in equal parts! This is exactly what you can expect from the new song Gone Again by Muhnday.

The track's chorused and jangly intro guitar may remind listeners of bands like Slowdive, but the arrangement suddenly jumps into a more aggressive section, echoing the sound of bands such as Deftones.
