The world exists in such a baffling state of simultaneous sex-aversion and sex-hegemony. Every social platform on the internet is trying to banish sex workers to the shadow realm but I can't post a tweet without at least two bots replying P U S S Y I N B I O. People are self-censoring sex to seggs and $3× but every other ad you see is still filled with half-naked women. Rightwingers want queer people arrested for so much as existing in the same postal code as a child and are also drumming up a moral panic about how teenage boys aren't getting laid enough. I feel like I'm losing my mind.

Before a storm, there is calm. An eerie quiet: a collective agreement that this will be bad. A change in pressure before the wind violently takes over. Storms need warm, moist air as fuel, and they typically draw that air in from the surrounding environment (Toothman). Violent protests, riots, start after the lack of change from peaceful protests: the warm political climate, heating up from years of ignorance or lack of change, with the pressure of wanted change and the lack of it from those in power, cause a powerful push from those who want difference. But a storm is not only high pressure, it is the combination of highs and lows, warms and cools, yin and yang. Violent resistance only works when peace is what is shown by the media. In U.S. classrooms we learn about the peaceful protests done by African Americans, as well as thousands of Indigenous, Latin, and Asian persons to spark change in laws and public opinion of black and brown Americans. We learn about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and his “I Have a Dream” speech, we learn about Rosa Parks and the bus boycott, we learn about the sit-ins and marches that protested segregational architecture. These acts of civil disobedience caused much needed political change, and kept people protesting and fighting without painting an image of violence in the media. “The thunderstorm enters the mature stage when the updraft continues to feed the storm, but precipitation begins to fall out of the storm,” says the NOAA’s NSSL in a paper about the life cycle of a storm. The mature stage of resistance is when civil disobedience and riots begin and stand hold to resistance. This is the time of the most change, the updraft of media coverage and word of mouth continuing to feed the anger of everyday citizens. Two of the most well-known acts of violent resistance include the Boston Tea Party and the Stonewall Riots. The Boston Tea Party, an important part of U.S. history and well-known act of violent resistance, is taught in public schools across America. On December 16th, 1773, American patriots dressed as Mohawk Native Americans (Kanienʼkehá꞉ka) dumped 342 chests (worth $1.5 million) of tea owned by the East India Company into the Boston Harbor. Though this resulted in the Intolerable Acts of 1774, this ultimately led to the American Revolution. “Eventually, a large amount of precipitation is produced and the updraft is overcome by the downdraft beginning the dissipating stage … Rainfall decreases in intensity, but lightning remains a danger,” states the NSSL. Whenever the people are given what they want, whether that be equal rights, a liveable paycheck, or a change in policies, the resistance will dissipate. The ones who stood at the frontlines will fall back, taking those who fell behind them along; but that is not the end. If injustice starts again, or a reason to fight arises, there will be a push, the lighting strikes again, the storm has returned. This is an essay I wrote for a competition, but I kind of just gave up.

Learning to celebrate the little wins!

Bingqiu AU where Luo Binghe's the chosen village sacrifice to the evil deity who lives up the mountain.

Normally the village sends maidens, but they've more or less run out of expendable girls of the right age and, ahem, "virtues". So of course Luo Binghe's early life bad luck kicks in. In the wake of his mother's death there's no one to really care about what happens to him, he's fairly pretty, and the village leaders decide that if they dress him up like a girl the teenaged homeless kid should pass well enough. And hey, y'know, he's probably got a hard life ahead for him anyway -- dying in a brothel of some venereal disease or on the streets of exposure or starvation. At least as a sacrifice, everyone else gets to benefit from his loss! And the kid will get added to a shrine and be remembered as a hero! If anything, he should be happy about this!

Binghe is not happy about this.

But he's also a skinny underfed nobody who is easily overpowered, dressed up like a bride, and tied to a post. So. Not much he can do but wait for the evil deity to come and do whatever horrible thing he's gonna do to him.

Meanwhile, Shen Yuan is pretty sure he's been isekai'd into the over-powered hero of some kind of supernatural adventure story? He's not totally sure because he doesn't recognize the setting, but the signs are there. He's got a shrine-like base of operations (though it seems to have become corrupted/ruined, probably he has to restore it somehow), he has a very resilient and handsome new body with spiritual energy of some kind flowing through him, and a very clearly magical sword. Plus lots of neat starter powers! Though it feels like he has other abilities that have been blocked somehow? Probably he has to level up in order to access them.

When he treks out of his "base" and finds what seems to be a distressed maiden, he takes it for his beginner hero mission. The girl claims that she's been doomed to be sacrificed to an evil god. That sounds a little above Shen Yuan's pay grade for dealing with, so he unties her and decides that they had better just get out of the whole region altogether. He already packed up anything useful from his base, anticipating he might get caught up in an adventure once he left, so they follow the river away from the settlement until they reach another one.

While they travel, Luo Binghe tells Shen Yuan about the cursed deity, Shen Qingqiu, who was cast out of the heavens for slaughtering one of his brethren and has apparently being do-who-knows what to maidens from the local village in exchange for his "protection" ever since. Sounds like a real asshole! And also mid-level boss type bad guy at least. Shen Yuan hopes he doesn't have to fight him, but he probably will.

Thank goodness he found Binghe, though! Clearly the helpful little sister type! He's definitely going to require her assistance if he's going to figure out how to navigate this world and level up his skills enough to take on a god.

is anti-transfeminist dogwhistling.

the "radfems" they're talking about are transfems trying to define and use language about our own opression like "transmisogyny" and who is targeted by it.

"gender essentialism" is used to mean different things. for one it's meant to denounce tme/tma language, saying that everyone is targeted by transmisogyny the same, and depraving us of standpoint epistemology. a second meaning i often see is: it's "gender essentialism" to say "we live in a patriarchy that benefits men over women"

this tactic is used mainly to paint transfeminists as dangerous and transmasc-hating, for applying intersectionality and materialism to feminist theory. it's to shun us by calling us terfs (a hate group primarily centered against transfems) which will immediately mark us as unsafe for other transfems and trans people in general. this is done instead of calling us baeddels, because calling us medieval slurs has fallen out of fashion and has become too obviously transmisogynistic
