I've been thinking about the class divide of the merchants vs the seam in district 12 and that's got me thinking about class division in other districts. Specifically I've been thinking about district 3, based on the real life circumstance of our technology parts being manufactured by scientists with high education and good wages vs them being assembled by people with terrible working conditions. I think that's something interesting to explore for district 3 in fics.

Johanna x reader who is Beetee and Wiress's daughter in 75th Hunger Games bc that shit would be so funny 😭 (if you're down to write for them as family members)
reader is constantly rattling off facts that they learnt from back home and johanna pretends to be listening despite the fact that she doesn't have a clue what half the words you're saying mean. at the beginning, she thinks you're a bit odd, mainly cause of the differences in how the two of you were raised. she finds it super endearing how easily you're able to work out things and she's constantly begging you to teach her how to do the same.

FINALLY SOMEONE WHO LOVES WIRESS TOO oh my god I feel so seen!! Also in response to your thingy: 🔥!!!
omg i LOVE wiress. she’s so interesting y’know?? but seriously as soon as i saw your blog i was like yes another wiress fan lol.
but anyway back to my opinions.
Wiress:
the thing with wiress is that, by three standards, she is not a genius. like she’s insanely smart, but it’s not like all encompassing?? if that makes sense???
but that’s just three standards. in terms of every other district (with the exception of MAYBE five. maybe.) she is off the charts smart. but wiress does not realize this so she’s like:
w: one time i got a 98 on my trigonometry test and that stuck with me because the rest of my classmates all got either 99 or 100 :(
the other victors: what the fuck is trigonometry.
Beetee:
he’s a bitch. that’s it. i’m being completely serious too; i love writing characters where they’re just assholes half of the time and i apparently decided beetee would be one of them.
half of the time it’s not even intentional either. like someone’s talking and he thinks of the best insult he’s ever thought of ever and he just says it without thinking at all. most of the victors have been insulted by him in some way or shape or form. whether he apologizes is completely up in the air - either he does it immediately or just stares at you with a blank expression until you drop it.
D3:
okay warning i have an insane amount of thoughts abt d3 so… this might take a minute.
*physically throws out the canon area for d3* being one of the first districts (and one of the most rebellious) i feel like they’re really close to the capitol, like how d1 is. so i put it at the very top of idaho, some of oregon and washington, and a little bit of montana. they border seven to the north/east and one to the south.
a good amount of the population is either in poverty or on the cusp (about 120k out of 190k). these people live in what are known as the Stills, an area off the main city of Three, where the wealthier citizens live. the Stills consists of five smaller towns/neighborhoods surrounding a square known as the Interface. this is where most of the shops in the Stills are, along with the main bar, which is called Harlow’s. Harlow’s sometimes has live music or local bands. they typically suck but everyone is usually too drunk to care lol.
the main town is where the wealthier residents live. they also have a square, which is surrounded by small shops and businesses. this is where the reapings take place. it can fit all of the children of reaping age, though it struggles with the rest of the family. they usually have to stand off to the side or in streets with screens to watch the reaping.
the main town is also where the victor’s village is, a short walk away from the square and up a short hill. as of the 75th hunger games, it had a total of five residents:
Attican (“Atlas”) Hoffman - victor of the 16th hunger games and the first victor from three. lived completely alone (except for all of his cats) in the village for twenty-four years. grew up in the main town, was born into a wealthy family. was 16 when he won, was 75 as of the 3QQ.
Beetee Latier - victor of the 40th hunger games and the second victor from three. his five siblings lived in his house with him until they all got jobs and houses in the main town. they visit for holidays and birthdays. grew up in the Stills. was 19 when he won, was 54 as of the 3QQ.
Wiress Lisiecki - victor of the 48th hunger games and the third victor from three. her older sister got a good job in the main town after she won and her mother already lived comfortably. she did bring her four cats (fleur, iris, leni, and luna) with her. grew up in the main town, into a wealthy family. was 18 when she won, was 45 as of the 3QQ.
Marie Teller - victor of the 55th hunger games and the fourth victor from three. her father had already succumbed to an illness and her mother was killed by peacekeepers after attempting to steal fruit from a stand. she moved in with beetee because he was a family friend when she was sixteen. grew up in the Stills. was 17 when she won, was 37 as of the 3QQ.
Haskell Nishimaru - victor of 68th hunger games and the fifth and final victor from three. he was brought up by his aunt and uncle. they lived with him until he was eighteen and then moved nearby. grew up in the Stills. was 16 when he won, was 23 as of the 3QQ.
okay all of those weren’t unpopular opinions and most of this was just me ranting but i hope you liked my word vomit lol!! <333 thank you for the ask 💕💕

[MAJOR SPOILERS FOR LIES OF P- KIND OF. ITS AN AU SO ITS MORE SPOILING THE PLOT AND CHARACTERS IN SAID PLOT]
Lies of P x Hunger Games ! au, District 3 Reaping, now with more Romeo!
Romeo proceeded to spend the rest of the train ride genuinely thinking he had gone insane.
This is a continuation of another post I did -with the district 12 reaping. To be completely honest, it's Romeo who makes this au interesting, it always is. I mean P is interesting, but Romeo is where most the plot is.
ANYWAY! Something important to know in this au is that Krat is not the capitol, but rather a part of district 3 that managed to push itself to an economic boom through it's own automation (puppets). The capitol didn't want Krat to have the power it gained, but it couldn't do anything about it, because the developers of the technology (namely Geppetto) refused to show how to make the puppets to anyone outside of Krat, while also establishing a monopoly of puppets. There was a massive desire of automation in the capitol, which led to more investment into Krat. There were attempts by the capitol to recreate it, but none succeeded, so they had no choice but to buy from Geppetto and/or Venigni.
This lead to Krat being seen as a "extended part of the capitol" as the people managed to raise their standard of living due to the reinvestments of the booming economy. The capitol knew they couldn't stop the city from growing, so they decided to block it off from the rest of district 3 and try to regain control socially. They moved in some people from the capitol -trying to establish an upper class, while also trying to get the people of the capitol to see Krat kinda like a vacation area. By cutting it off, they managed to make sure District 3 could not overthrow the capitol through Krat, even if many in Krat still despised the capitol.
However, the agreement was that all of Krat's population would be excluded from the Hunger Games, so there wasn't much fuss from the people.
But then the puppet frenzy happened. And Krat swiftly fell, with very few actually making it out, Romeo being one of them. All puppets became hostile, even ones in the capitol (although few). The capitol saw a scape-goat and they took it. Geppetto was vilified, blamed as the cause of all this destruction -but he disappeared before the capitol could get him. They assumed he had been killed.
Venigni was an unique case. Yes, he did make many puppets, however he focused much more on quality of life advancements, rather than complete automation. When the frenzy occurred, he was on the front lines trying to stop the disaster, as futile as it was. But he was also incredibly rich -even to capitol standards- so when the people of Krat could finally leave, Venigni managed to buy his way into the capitol, where he was warmly welcomed by many fans of his.
That year of the puppet frenzy, the Hunger Games were cancelled. They couldn't go ahead with the puppets at the capitol causing a (admittedly small) crisis. The next year they did go ahead like normal, but many of the survivors of Krat were still unaccounted for and lost, so were not legally obligated to attend.
It was two years after the puppet frenzy when Romeo could attend the reaping, and made his decision to partake in Carlo's stead. Little did he know of a certain mischievous puppet who wasn't doing as he was told.
(District 12 Reaping, with P!)

I'm thinking about entertainment in panem again , like it can't be that the hunger games are the only form of entertainment this takes place in the future are district 1 and 3 responsible for things like movies and video games? Ik it might seem a stretch for district 1 but do district 3 don't do like video games on top of the programming?
And where the media from the old world ever recovered I'm curious about that obviously it won't be accessible to the poorer districts but how is it for the other districts?
If anyone has any thoughts please share it tell me I'm not the only one who fell down that rabbit hole

Do you have specific locations in mind when you write about Panem? For example, is 12 in a particular part of Appalachia for you, etc? I can't tell from Katharsis (which, don't worry about that, because trust me, it says way more about my geography skills than your writing skills lol) so I was curious!
Ahoy, sweet reader!!! Thank you so much for asking this, because it touches on something I have been thinking about more this year. And bear with me, I'm gonna go off a minute, and it will veer more towards Four.
First, let's look at the movie!official map.

Something that has always bothered me about this is the size and proximity of the Districts. There are some, particularly Nine, Ten, and Eleven, that we can infer or were described as taking up more land. For their industries, they must. However, it is noted that most Districts' populations and economic centers are concentrated in singular towns. In those geographically larger Districts, workers may be shuttled between home and work sites, but there is a limit to how far that can stretch. Two is noted to be the odd one out with its multiple villages. So, given that we know the Districts do not actually take up this kind of space, that there are miles and miles of wilds between their borders, it is really just a display of potential ranges.
I always imagined Twelve in the northern Appalachians, a little east of this map, since I wasn't accounting for as much sea level rise. I like having Thirteen further north, nearer old Canada, to incorporate a wider range of North America, and a Twelve in the northern part of the mountains lets us have that without them being too far for the commutes in Mockingjay. In Ch. 16, I said Buttercup "trekked hundreds of miles," and to get that, I mapped West Virginia to New York. Not super precise. When she gathers herbs in Ch. 9, I did double check their current ranges and preferred growing habitats to try to be accurate. Northern creep explained by climate change. Coming up, they will eat some wild boar. Feral swine are a big nuisance in the south, and they can get up to the range depicted for Twelve. May even spread further with such a decrease in urban environments, but I'm not a terrestrial biologist. Here, the range for Twelve is smaller than the other Districts, and I don't have a more specific headcanon aside from being biased for the bit closer to Pennsylvania.
Now, being a Chicago gal, I do appreciate its inclusion at the tip of District 6. It's where the transcontinental railroad connected and has historically been the intersection of many a terrestrial trade route--and big about trains--thanks to the Great Lakes! To me, Six is there, and they still use old railway paths and the lakes for moving things, even if there isn't much in the direction the lakes lead anymore. No idea why Three would be there; I used to headcanon that as somewhere in California like Silicon Valley or wherever those people moved after it was eaten by the sea. Three should be closer to Five, which is very appropriately placed where solar panels will get a lot of action.
So, about District 4. When I first read the books, if I thought about seafood in the US, I thought about Bubba from Forrest Gump and all the glorious ways he enjoyed shrimp. This led my first thought about District 4 to the Gulf of Mexico. Later, the West coast grew on me, but Southern Four will always have a place in my heart. And that connects to my next point. Let's talk about Aquaculture!

This figure represents world-wide industry and our current environment, so we must take it with a grain of salt to extrapolate to Panem. That said, I do believe that Four does a combination of wild capture and aquaculture. Wild fisheries could be completely depleted for all we know! Aquaculture is the way of sustainability, and I can go on about that for hours. BUT do you know what the top-cultured aquatic species in the US is today? Catfish!

This map is shows the profit of catfish and other freshwater species like bass and tilapia in the South. If we roll with Four being on the West coast, then I will always put it in the northern part of that. Note the shade of Washington. That's salmon and trout! Salmonids and other prized seafood species are cold water animals! They also do a fair amount of salmonid aquaculture in Idaho. I do not buy a Californian District 4. Not with the way the waters are warming. There is so much salmonid aquaculture up that coast into Canada, too! And the "Yellow Death" that Four's trout hatchery scientists make a new vaccine for in Katharsis Ch. 11 is a Flavobacterium sp.
Anyway, thanks for asking!!!

General headcannon for wiress and beetee :p
-🪥
wiress was definitely excluded a lot as a kid, so she learnt to enjoy her own company. she used to read lots of books in the corner until she met beetee. he asked if he could join her one day so they made it a kind of tradition to spend their lunch breaks reading in silence together.
wiress had a pet cat called socks.
wiress has nervous vocal tics. her main ones are humming and clicking her tongue.
wiress used to have really long hair, but during her games, it got fire damaged and they couldn't repair it. she tried to wear a wig but she just hated the feeling of it, so she just cut her normal hair short and left it that way.
beetee sleeps with stuffed animals and he's not ashamed to admit it.
beetee tried wearing contacts but it just did not work well, so he went back to glasses.
beetee's favourite animals are flying squirrels.

the grand master post of all things D3
made by a person who definitely thinks about a district that was never actually canonically described a little too much
so. let’s get into the fun stuff!
District Three consists of two main “areas” or zones: the Stills and the city of Stepanov, which is the main city in Three, named after the first mayor of Three, who’s full name was Hewlett Stepanov. It is still a popular name in Three, especially with the wealthy, and the Stepanov family are respected highly by citizens.
if you’ve read my other posts about d3 and everything related to it, some of this is just restating but some of it is new so make sure to find that stuff! here are all of the posts: Beetee + Wiress headcanons | District Three Lore + List of Victors + even more Beetee + Wiress headcanons | Wiress did not grow up poor - opinion | Wiress with Cats | The Latier Family Tree [extended version] | even MORE Beetee + Wiress headcanons | Beetee headcanons pertaining to his childhood | Wiress headcanons pertaining to music + music that is most prevalent in Three | really random hcs about Beetee’s great grandparents | Beetee’s dynamic with the other victors + a little of Wiress and Beetee’s relationship | Beetee’s love language | Beetress headcanons | Beetee’s parents and home life headcanons | Beetee and religion | Beetee and Brutus friendship | Beetress first meeting | Beetee and English (plus beetress) | How beetress fell in love + Beetee’s realization | Beetee post-rebellion | Axel Latier (Beetee’s nephew) and Barbara Lisiecki (Wiress’ sister) headcanons | D3 Tributes headcanons | Is D3 an underdog district? | Wiress’ family and their feelings about her Games | Beetee and forced prostitution [cw: graphic description/depictions of forced prostitution] | Beetee and Coriolanus Parallels |
tags: dayne’s beetee tag | dayne’s wiress thoughts (TM) | the latier family | everything beetee/wiress is under beetress
fics: even here as we are standing now (i can see the fear in your eyes) [aka The Beetee Fic]
this will be separated into sections because i have a lot of thoughts lol
General Info:
District Three consists of the majority of Idaho/the Idaho Panhandle, some of west Washington, and east Montana. There also a tiny, tiny little bit of modern Oregon. D3 borders One to the south and east and Seven to the north and west.
The area that is considered “District Three” is not all used for living and the majority of it is forested land. Due to this, lumberyard workers from Seven travel the short distance from the two districts to harvest many of these trees. This is also true for miners from One in terms of gems.
Three makes and produces the vast majority of all technology used in Panem, cars, glass, and various drugs.
Child labor is a major issue, as children from the Stills begin working at factories as early as age four/five. Much of the time, there is an encompassing building attached to the factory that your parents work at for children who work.
Stepanov:
Saint Stepanov (typically shortened simply to Stepanov during the ADD¹/DHG²/BSR³ era) is the main city of Three where wealthier citizens live, or there version of Twelve’s “merchant class”. Adults who live here work as software developers and engineers, factory owners or managers, analysts, programmers, etc. These citizens typically live good lives with fulfilling jobs and nine times out of ten, no one will ever have to worry about where the food on the table comes from.
Only one year in Hunger Games existence were both children reaped were from the wealthier families of Three. The 48th Annual Hunger Games came as a shock to everyone, when both Wiress Lisiecki and Fortran Stepanov were reaped.
The square in Stepanov is where the Reapings take place. All children of reaping age can fit, but families usually have to stand in accompanying streets or are pushed to the back.
¹—After Dark Days | ²—During Hunger Games | ³—Before Second Rebellion |
The Stills:
The majority of Three’s population lives in poverty or on the cusp (about 120k out of 190k), in the area called the Stills, which consists of five separate neighborhoods/towns joined together by a square in the middle called The Interface. The Interface is where the main marketplace for the Stills is, including a popular bar called Harlow’s.
The majority of the Stills inhabitants work as factory workers/laborers. Almost always, these workers work in these jobs for their entire lives. They are not given the same opportunities as the citizens from Stepanov are. Due to this, a lot of animosity from both sides of the divide is very prevalent in everyday life.
Citizens from the Stills are taught from a young age about doing whatever it takes to survive. Because of this, tributes from the Stills typically do better in the Hunger Game than their wealthier counterparts.
— Midtown:
Midtown is the in between area to the Stills and Stepanov. Only around 10k of the overall population live here. Inhabitants of Midtown have jobs that include factory manager, training jobs, and about half of the jobs not pertaining to Three’s industry. People from Midtown are teachers, business/shop owners, and various other occupations.
Midtown is on the other side of Stepanov to the Stills, a short walk down a small hill. Due to the small population, few tributes in the Hunger Games are from Midtown, but there are exceptions. Examples of this include Circ Bauer, male tribute of the 10th Annual Hunger Games, and Matilyne Sanchez, female tribute of the 47th Annual Hunger Games. The 45th Games was the only year where both tributes from Three were from Midtown, with Coball Alves-Torres and Maple Adomaitytė.
Victors Village:
As of the Third Quarter Quell, there were five residents of Three’s Victors Village.

Additional Information:
Three is not an “Anyone But A Career” district. They have never been one.
Every single time a Three wins the Hunger Games, a victor from One precedes them. Every. Single. Time. Atlas was preceded by Harrison Sanford, Beetee by Paris Sanford, Wiress by Zircon (“Connor”) Lewis, Marie by Emerald Reeves, and Haskell by Augustus Braun.
Three’s victors are sometimes seen as a buffer between the careers and the outlying districts. Most of the citizens of Three don’t have a problem with the Careers, except for some people from Stepanov.
In Stepanov, residents celebrate what children refer to as “Tree Time” during December—families use left over trees from the workers from Seven and display them in their homes with generational ornaments. Every year, at least one new ornament is added to the tree. Some families use breakable plastic to put new year’s resolutions inside of the ornaments and then break them on New Year’s to read them with family and friends at midnight.
Every Saturday, business owners in Midtown set up a marketplace for citizens, primarily ones from Stepanov.
In the Stills, names are very important. Due to the extreme poverty many are trapped in, a common phrase is, “I have nothing but my first and last”, meaning their first and last name.

Just out of interest if you were to assign every district a probability of having their tribute be victor what would it be?
I'm leaning towards-
District 1 (Luxury Goods): 25%
District 2 (Masonry and Defence): 30%
District 3 (General Electronics): 3%
District 4 (Fishing): 10%
District 5 (Power/Electricity): 4%
District 6 (Transportation): 4%
District 7 (Lumber): 5%
District 8 (Textiles): 3%
District 9 (Grain): 3%
District 10 (Livestock): 5%
District 11 (Agriculture): 5%
District 12 (Mining): 3%
I reckon in earlier games we'd see more of a lean towards Districts with either physical strength or proclivities towards weapons, namely Districts 2, 4, 7, 10 and 11, but once the Career Academies get set in place and Districts 1 and 2 become the powerful tributes they are in the original trilogy this would be the overall outcome.
