Thinking about how often Jean quotes Neil to himself to feel safe. Thinking about Jean saying to Jeremy you don’t have to trust him because I do. Thinking of how Nora said if Neil had been a raven when he was supposed to be he could have never left Jean alone even after Kevin did. Thinking about Neil and his ‘one of us has to survive this, and it’s going to be him’ mentality taking root and growing into everyone he cares about. Including Jean. Thinking about misplaced forever partners. Thinking about two kids who had no one but each other in every version of the story except for the one we got, so we see this fractured longing version instead and they’re so much better off, but there’s something missing too.

Buck keeping his head up and smiling at the funeral reception, speaking politely to everyone and making sure the team is okay.

Tommy eying him every few seconds, taking note of every time his eye twitches or the smile drops for a split second.

Buck avoiding Tommy at all costs. Walking away every time Tommy gets close. Never making eye contact and making sure they’re never alone with each other.

Tommy knocking on Buck’s door, standing at the entrance when he’s not invited inside. Telling Buck he doesn’t have to do this. Doesn’t have to fake being okay when he’s not.

Buck insisting that he’s fine. Really, he is. He doesn’t need to be treated like a child. Doesn’t need to be coddled. Doesn’t need anyone there for him. Wants to be left alone.

Tommy nodding, solemn. Respects Buck’s wishes. Tells him that, no matter what, he’s still here. And when, not if, but when he needs someone, he’ll be waiting.

A knock on Tommy’s door thirty minutes after he gets home. He opens it to Buck there, tears pouring down his face. One simple word, “Evan,” and arms open wide, and Buck is holding onto him for dear life.

Buck, who is not okay. Tommy, who isn’t either. Both of them choosing to be there. Both of them choosing to stay.

I’ve started watching Mumbo’s season ten from the beginning, and - can I just say - it’s very nice to see his mentality. I know he’s mentioned in past recent seasons about feeling uninspired or burnt out (which does make sense, mustache man has done some pretty crazy things over the years). But I know that’s often what former hermits have said before they decided to leave Hermitcraft and I was starting to get a little sad that Mumbo might leave.

But! Instead, he’s completely flipped some of his expectations for himself and his methods and seems to be extremely happy and excited about his season. I’m so happy for him and excited to see what he’s got planned.

Thinking of the damian "blood son" rhetoric in fandom and I think people don't like to admit they yeah he does think he's better than other people but many times it is bc his training or his feats, he constantly makes allusions to his training, bc then they can't just say "oh he's a spoiled kid who just got everything handed to him for being bruces/ras son/grandson " but like... he clearly worked hard for what he has (including a place in the batfam)

I've been thinking about the class divide of the merchants vs the seam in district 12 and that's got me thinking about class division in other districts. Specifically I've been thinking about district 3, based on the real life circumstance of our technology parts being manufactured by scientists with high education and good wages vs them being assembled by people with terrible working conditions. I think that's something interesting to explore for district 3 in fics.

Something about birds being one of the most free animals and Adrien being allergic to them. Something about cats being notorious for never listening, and Adrien being a follower.

Something about how Marinette constantly thinks outside the box, but due to past experiences and trauma is faced with rules, rules, and more rules (self imposed and not so self imposed). Something about how Marinette is so trusting but is told over and over again that she shouldn't be.

Something about Alya, a journalist, being given the miraculous of illusion. Something about Alya, "bad guys only win if good guys do nothing" struggling between a reporter and a hero. A bystander and a doer.

Something about Nino being a dj and/or director, always behind the scenes, but being put in positions where he has to be the one taking action. Something about Nino wanting to shield his friends, but never knowing the danger targeting them.

Something about how akumas do things the original person would never do, all because the person couldn't see a way out. They couldn't see anyone who would help them get out.

Something about how Adrien's friends pushed him to be more free. Something about how his friends wanted him to choose what he wanted.(Not consistently, but y'know, teens.)

Something about how Marinette's friends encourage her to think about whether the rules are fair. Something about Marinette's friends encouraging her to trust again.

Something about Alya's friends encouraging her to find the truth when she's lost her way. Something about Alya's friends encouraging her to learn when to act and when to act as eyes for the blind.

Something about Nino's friends helping him learn to take action. Something about how he was given the strength to protect by his friend.

Something about Marinette not being akumatized because someone (Tikki) was there. Something about how when she felt alone she was almost akumatized (Princess Justice incident)

Something about being stretched and pushed into something different than who we were. Something about how when we don't rely on those we love, we're pushed too far.

Something about kids growing up and being handed the problems of their parents or grandparents or great-great-grandparents. Something about kids being expected to solve problems they have no experience with.

Something about kids having to learn to choose love and honesty and bravery and freedom to live when they've been taught hate and lies and cowardice and shackles to survive.

Something about kids standing against a hopeless world with hope because they're standing with someone they love.

Something about the power of platonic love being a missed opportunity when we take it for granted.

Ok so like. RIP Bobby and yes of course I hope it's a fake out and the writing was all over the place etc etc 😭 I'm side eyeing the whole thing. HOWEVER... I definitely don't see why the Buddies are dooming right now

One of the only things we know about the next episode is that Eddie, Buck and Tommy will all be at the same place and all grieving to some extent. I am confident that Tommy was in 8x15 for the purpose of it making sense for him to be in 8x16 too.

I personally think that the way he watched Buck break down, clearly sympathizing but also choosing not to go to him, will lead to him trying to find some way to help Buck. He still cares for him but the conversation from 8x11, as well as the several interactions that he must have had with Buddie to see Eddie as competition throughout their relationship, will still be in his mind. I have seen some spec that Tommy could be the one to call Eddie, idk how I feel about it but I wouldn't be surprised. IMHO there is NO way Tommy will see Buddie interact in 8x16 and think "you know maybe I SHOULD give it another shot". I think it will serve more as a way for the audience to be confronted directly with the differences between the relationships and what they can each offer Buck. Now, I won't say it's impossible for it to go the love triangle route or even another Bucktommy relationship, but if it does, it makes no sense for Tommy to initiate it based on 8x11 and even 8x6. What does that leave? A grieving Buck who is not in a state to make the most sound relationship decision, probably, and is likely to scramble for whatever connection he can find. It's possible, though, that we might see Buck acting more stable in an attempt to help everyone else grieve - in which case it makes sense for him to lean more into someone who he feels completely safe and vulnerable with, which is established over and over to be Eddie. I just don't see how this situation could ever lead to long-term Bucktommy.

Whatever happens, I am not sure s8 Buddie is a good idea if the death turns out to be real but that's no reason to doom (but I hope for some confirmation of feelings from either of them). I know it's hard to be patient and very hard to trust these wacky writers, but I've actually been pleased with their pacing of the Buddie storyline so far. I'm sad Eddie wasn't in this arc but I think that will serve a purpose of some kind. Guess we'll see but no dooming here 🙅‍♀️🙅‍♀️🙅‍♀️

I think I finally cracked the code for why raw meat is so prevalent in weirdcore

So weirdcore is often seen as a twisting of nostalgic things. Making them odd and creepy. And what better fits this theme of twisted nostalgia then the universal childhood experience of realising where meat really comes from?(ie dead animals. Flesh)

So anyway I just imagined the first Olympian family dinner after Zeus and Hera got their respective shits together enough to let Athena and Hephaestus move to Olympus (okay Athena wasn't really a choice Zeus just killed her foster sister)

Like. Hephaestus just standing there in his work clothes and trying not to think what nice stuff he could build if he didn't have to be here.

And then young Athena steps up beside him, her shield just ever so slightly too big for her still, her armor still the one she was born with (the one Metis made, probably has oceanid symbols on it rather than her own and definitely not fitting that shield that Zeus gave her)

He offers her to make her armor fit for her domain and she trades it with a proper wardrobe bc she's the goddess of crafts after all.

And then they are called for dinner, the exiled children, the eldest siblings even though they aren't related. Meeting their parents who have already failed them in their first century.

I know it's easy to assume Lumon caused or faked Gemma's car accident but to me there's something really compelling about the possibility that they didn't. If they're truly doing medical research to save gravely injured people (and at what cost? Their freedom? Their entire personality?) that makes it so much harder to grapple with their cruelty

anyway the main difference between "statements" in tma and tmagp is that in tma the people were scared, even those who later became avatars or were serving the fears. that was the theme - fear. but in protocol so far we only had people somewhat embracing those fears. and idk if it's because the fears are so different here maybe they're not even truly fears maybe they don't feast on terror. or maybe we're just seeing people we never got to see in tma, especially in episode 2. we wouldn't get a statement from Daria but rather those that came in contact with her.

Lol I wonder if Kusuo lost that final little bit of self worth once he stopped the volcano. Like that was his whole life goal all those years. He didn’t even give himself time to think of a future beyond that. And once he stopped it, what was there left for him to do? He’d served his purpose.

I genuinely think losing his powers at his young age wasn’t really a good idea. All of his worth is conflated with his powers, both in his own mind and in others. Think of how excited Toritsuka and Kusuke were that he was getting them back, regardless of how anxious it made Kusuo. Accepting them as part of himself was a good step in the right direction, but he needs to learn how to acknowledge that he is a person who has value beyond what his powers can do. It’s something I think that can only come with age for him. He needs time to unlearn everything he’s grown up believing.
