i genuinely have so many thoughts about wiress and beetee’s relationship with katniss because it interests me to think about how much of the relationship was genuine interest and how much was the knowledge of what was needed for the rebellion. because wiress and katniss would totally be at least acquaintances in another universe but katniss would NOT like beetee if she met him in any other situation and i stand by that.

Oh the way fandom just erases them from the Quell alliance is wiiiiild and so transparently just because they aren't young and traditionally attractive. Because they're KEY to everything. First of all, in the books D3 is one of the first districts to start rebelling even before the Quell which also implies Beetee and Wiress were already "problem" victors. Then you've got them being literally Katniss's deal breaker, she's like "I will not go along with this shit unless I get them as allies". Then, oh yeah, Wiress is the only one to figure out the arena gimmick and Beetee is Central to the plan to break out of the arena. Everyone is toast without them. And finally, Katniss straight up likes Wiress, she spends an exorbitant amount of time in the arena on looking out for Wiress and just being with her, when Wiress is killed Katniss takes precious time to close her eyes and tell her goodbye.
this!! exactly this anon you get it. they are so important to the overall plot of catching fire and the entire series as a whole. like look me dead in the eye and tell me that if beetee wasn’t there the rebellion would have still succeeded. like you can’t. it doesn’t even make logical sense to say that. in mockingjay it is mentioned multiple times that the only reason the broadcasting of the propos even work is because of beetee. he redesigned the entire broadcasting system himself. the rebellion literally would have failed without him.
and wiress. she’s literally there to show how the hunger games affects even the strongest people, a former victor. to show the extent of the trauma and imprint the hunger games leaves on everyone. and yet she’s completely pushed aside and it’s so infuriating. katniss everdeen would not stand for this shit.

beetee and coriolanus parallels consuming my every waking thought so coming on here to make it everyone else’s problem too because consider: they both grew up in poverty, their family’s struggling to make ends meet enough to pay for food. they both had something that distinguished themselves from their peers, coriolanus’ charm and beetee’s genius, that became something of a currency to them, something that they had that others didn’t when they were surrounded by people rich in everything else. they both had people they needed to protect, their families. they both rose above others to win something, the games, at the risk of losing themselves, even subconsciously, in order to save their families. they both met the “love of their life”, their songbird, through the games, while in a position of power above them as their mentors. they both risked the threat of death hanging above them in order to win the games, beetee in a bloody fight with another exhausted tribute just to be forgotten mere minutes later by the capitol and coriolanus slowly of starvation on the streets of the city he loved so much.
but the differences between them are what make them so similar and yet so vastly different as well. beetee and coriolanus both lost their innocence along the way to their victory in the games for beetee and the presidency for coriolanus, but beetee was forced into prostitution and to give up his brains for the very country he already killed for the entertainment of at the hands of a man who once watched his own cousin leave for the shadier districts of the capitol in the dead of night only to come back with food and a haunted look in her eyes. beetee was forced to come back every year to train kids to either become killers like him or die like the previous children that came last year and the year before that and the year before that, all to appease their president, a man who watched as some of his fellow mentors of the tenth slowly lost their light as the years go by, as more children die just like the ones they mentored all those years ago, as coriolanus snow himself climbs the political ladder, leaving a pile of bodies behind him. beetee and coriolanus both fell in love with their victors, wiress and lucy gray respectively, but coriolanus never saw lucy gray as a human being. she was district, below him, and besides, she was his, his tribute, his victor, his lucy gray. as soon as she realized who exactly snow was, a controlling, manipulative man who had already killed three people, one that he wouldn’t even admit to, she ran for her life, whereas wiress and beetee have never once strayed from the defining principle of any relationship: trust. wiress trusted beetee to help her win the hunger games, and he did. beetee trusted wiress to understand the meanings behind his sponsor gifts, the reasoning behind them or the lack of them, and she did. wiress trusted beetee with the rebellion even when he was indecisive on it, and he eventually helped the rebels when she couldn’t be there to do it herself. most importantly, beetee acknowledges that wiress is not his; she’s her own person with her own beliefs and opinions and characteristics that are vastly different from his own, but while that’s one of the most important aspects of beetee and wiress’ relationship, it’s something that coriolanus could never accept about his and lucy gray’s.

FINALLY SOMEONE WHO LOVES WIRESS TOO oh my god I feel so seen!! Also in response to your thingy: 🔥!!!
omg i LOVE wiress. she’s so interesting y’know?? but seriously as soon as i saw your blog i was like yes another wiress fan lol.
but anyway back to my opinions.
Wiress:
the thing with wiress is that, by three standards, she is not a genius. like she’s insanely smart, but it’s not like all encompassing?? if that makes sense???
but that’s just three standards. in terms of every other district (with the exception of MAYBE five. maybe.) she is off the charts smart. but wiress does not realize this so she’s like:
w: one time i got a 98 on my trigonometry test and that stuck with me because the rest of my classmates all got either 99 or 100 :(
the other victors: what the fuck is trigonometry.
Beetee:
he’s a bitch. that’s it. i’m being completely serious too; i love writing characters where they’re just assholes half of the time and i apparently decided beetee would be one of them.
half of the time it’s not even intentional either. like someone’s talking and he thinks of the best insult he’s ever thought of ever and he just says it without thinking at all. most of the victors have been insulted by him in some way or shape or form. whether he apologizes is completely up in the air - either he does it immediately or just stares at you with a blank expression until you drop it.
D3:
okay warning i have an insane amount of thoughts abt d3 so… this might take a minute.
*physically throws out the canon area for d3* being one of the first districts (and one of the most rebellious) i feel like they’re really close to the capitol, like how d1 is. so i put it at the very top of idaho, some of oregon and washington, and a little bit of montana. they border seven to the north/east and one to the south.
a good amount of the population is either in poverty or on the cusp (about 120k out of 190k). these people live in what are known as the Stills, an area off the main city of Three, where the wealthier citizens live. the Stills consists of five smaller towns/neighborhoods surrounding a square known as the Interface. this is where most of the shops in the Stills are, along with the main bar, which is called Harlow’s. Harlow’s sometimes has live music or local bands. they typically suck but everyone is usually too drunk to care lol.
the main town is where the wealthier residents live. they also have a square, which is surrounded by small shops and businesses. this is where the reapings take place. it can fit all of the children of reaping age, though it struggles with the rest of the family. they usually have to stand off to the side or in streets with screens to watch the reaping.
the main town is also where the victor’s village is, a short walk away from the square and up a short hill. as of the 75th hunger games, it had a total of five residents:
Attican (“Atlas”) Hoffman - victor of the 16th hunger games and the first victor from three. lived completely alone (except for all of his cats) in the village for twenty-four years. grew up in the main town, was born into a wealthy family. was 16 when he won, was 75 as of the 3QQ.
Beetee Latier - victor of the 40th hunger games and the second victor from three. his five siblings lived in his house with him until they all got jobs and houses in the main town. they visit for holidays and birthdays. grew up in the Stills. was 19 when he won, was 54 as of the 3QQ.
Wiress Lisiecki - victor of the 48th hunger games and the third victor from three. her older sister got a good job in the main town after she won and her mother already lived comfortably. she did bring her four cats (fleur, iris, leni, and luna) with her. grew up in the main town, into a wealthy family. was 18 when she won, was 45 as of the 3QQ.
Marie Teller - victor of the 55th hunger games and the fourth victor from three. her father had already succumbed to an illness and her mother was killed by peacekeepers after attempting to steal fruit from a stand. she moved in with beetee because he was a family friend when she was sixteen. grew up in the Stills. was 17 when she won, was 37 as of the 3QQ.
Haskell Nishimaru - victor of 68th hunger games and the fifth and final victor from three. he was brought up by his aunt and uncle. they lived with him until he was eighteen and then moved nearby. grew up in the Stills. was 16 when he won, was 23 as of the 3QQ.
okay all of those weren’t unpopular opinions and most of this was just me ranting but i hope you liked my word vomit lol!! <333 thank you for the ask 💕💕

I try to be all let people do fandom how they want but oh boy. The bad takes everywhere about beetee and wiress. Stumbled on a reddit thread saying beetee's a mary sue whose only trait is being smart like.... get away from my man actually! People who think wiress has to be brain damaged and is unable to have any "normal" social interaction?? Literally how is it possible to misunderstand them so badly its not even like there's a million words of layered complexity to sift through a lot of it is explicitly stated/shown in the tiny amount of time the narrative gives to both of them. (And the way they're both commonly erased from the Quell alliance ugh.)
THIS!!! oh my god i will never not be mad about the common misinterpretations in this fandom. like of course wiress was having trouble communicating, she was literally going through possibly the worst thing that ever happened to her AGAIN. yes beetee is mainly characterized as being smart but that’s because he’s a side character with not much information on him, not because he’s a mary sue. like are we idiots. have we learned nothing in english class.

the grand master post of all things D3
made by a person who definitely thinks about a district that was never actually canonically described a little too much
so. let’s get into the fun stuff!
District Three consists of two main “areas” or zones: the Stills and the city of Stepanov, which is the main city in Three, named after the first mayor of Three, who’s full name was Hewlett Stepanov. It is still a popular name in Three, especially with the wealthy, and the Stepanov family are respected highly by citizens.
if you’ve read my other posts about d3 and everything related to it, some of this is just restating but some of it is new so make sure to find that stuff! here are all of the posts: Beetee + Wiress headcanons | District Three Lore + List of Victors + even more Beetee + Wiress headcanons | Wiress did not grow up poor - opinion | Wiress with Cats | The Latier Family Tree [extended version] | even MORE Beetee + Wiress headcanons | Beetee headcanons pertaining to his childhood | Wiress headcanons pertaining to music + music that is most prevalent in Three | really random hcs about Beetee’s great grandparents | Beetee’s dynamic with the other victors + a little of Wiress and Beetee’s relationship | Beetee’s love language | Beetress headcanons | Beetee’s parents and home life headcanons | Beetee and religion | Beetee and Brutus friendship | Beetress first meeting | Beetee and English (plus beetress) | How beetress fell in love + Beetee’s realization | Beetee post-rebellion | Axel Latier (Beetee’s nephew) and Barbara Lisiecki (Wiress’ sister) headcanons | D3 Tributes headcanons | Is D3 an underdog district? | Wiress’ family and their feelings about her Games | Beetee and forced prostitution [cw: graphic description/depictions of forced prostitution] | Beetee and Coriolanus Parallels |
tags: dayne’s beetee tag | dayne’s wiress thoughts (TM) | the latier family | everything beetee/wiress is under beetress
fics: even here as we are standing now (i can see the fear in your eyes) [aka The Beetee Fic]
this will be separated into sections because i have a lot of thoughts lol
General Info:
District Three consists of the majority of Idaho/the Idaho Panhandle, some of west Washington, and east Montana. There also a tiny, tiny little bit of modern Oregon. D3 borders One to the south and east and Seven to the north and west.
The area that is considered “District Three” is not all used for living and the majority of it is forested land. Due to this, lumberyard workers from Seven travel the short distance from the two districts to harvest many of these trees. This is also true for miners from One in terms of gems.
Three makes and produces the vast majority of all technology used in Panem, cars, glass, and various drugs.
Child labor is a major issue, as children from the Stills begin working at factories as early as age four/five. Much of the time, there is an encompassing building attached to the factory that your parents work at for children who work.
Stepanov:
Saint Stepanov (typically shortened simply to Stepanov during the ADD¹/DHG²/BSR³ era) is the main city of Three where wealthier citizens live, or there version of Twelve’s “merchant class”. Adults who live here work as software developers and engineers, factory owners or managers, analysts, programmers, etc. These citizens typically live good lives with fulfilling jobs and nine times out of ten, no one will ever have to worry about where the food on the table comes from.
Only one year in Hunger Games existence were both children reaped were from the wealthier families of Three. The 48th Annual Hunger Games came as a shock to everyone, when both Wiress Lisiecki and Fortran Stepanov were reaped.
The square in Stepanov is where the Reapings take place. All children of reaping age can fit, but families usually have to stand in accompanying streets or are pushed to the back.
¹—After Dark Days | ²—During Hunger Games | ³—Before Second Rebellion |
The Stills:
The majority of Three’s population lives in poverty or on the cusp (about 120k out of 190k), in the area called the Stills, which consists of five separate neighborhoods/towns joined together by a square in the middle called The Interface. The Interface is where the main marketplace for the Stills is, including a popular bar called Harlow’s.
The majority of the Stills inhabitants work as factory workers/laborers. Almost always, these workers work in these jobs for their entire lives. They are not given the same opportunities as the citizens from Stepanov are. Due to this, a lot of animosity from both sides of the divide is very prevalent in everyday life.
Citizens from the Stills are taught from a young age about doing whatever it takes to survive. Because of this, tributes from the Stills typically do better in the Hunger Game than their wealthier counterparts.
— Midtown:
Midtown is the in between area to the Stills and Stepanov. Only around 10k of the overall population live here. Inhabitants of Midtown have jobs that include factory manager, training jobs, and about half of the jobs not pertaining to Three’s industry. People from Midtown are teachers, business/shop owners, and various other occupations.
Midtown is on the other side of Stepanov to the Stills, a short walk down a small hill. Due to the small population, few tributes in the Hunger Games are from Midtown, but there are exceptions. Examples of this include Circ Bauer, male tribute of the 10th Annual Hunger Games, and Matilyne Sanchez, female tribute of the 47th Annual Hunger Games. The 45th Games was the only year where both tributes from Three were from Midtown, with Coball Alves-Torres and Maple Adomaitytė.
Victors Village:
As of the Third Quarter Quell, there were five residents of Three’s Victors Village.
Address — Game — Name — Age at Victory

Important Characters:
— Parents of Victors:
The Stills —
Ada Latier (née Brownstone) — mother of Beetee Latier. Lost her older sister, Cora Brownstone, to the sixteenth Games.
Linus Latier — father of Beetee Latier. Lost his younger brother, Hermes Latier, to the fourteenth Games. Linus and Ada found each other as the only person who understood the pain of losing a sibling to the Games.
Annabeth Teller (née White) — mother of Marie Teller. Family friend of the Latiers. Grew up in the Stills.
Fox Teller — father of Marie Teller. Grew up alongside Linus Latier and were childhood friends. Fox and Anna were the reason Ada and Linus met.
Stepanov —
Aurora Lisiecki — mother of Wiress Lisiecki. She runs a circus/theater group to entertain Threes and visiting Capitol citizens.
— Siblings of Victors:
Adeline Latier — younger sister of Beetee Latier. She’s younger than him by six years. She was thirteen when he was reaped.
Roent Latier — younger brother of Beetee Latier. He’s eight years younger than Beetee. He was eleven when he was reaped.
Tera Latier — younger sister of Beetee Latier. She’s ten years younger than Beetee. She was nine when he was reaped.
Ruther Latier — younger brother of Beetee Latier. He’s ten years younger than Beetee. He was nine when he was reaped. Tera and him are twins.
Dayta Latier — younger sister of Beetee Latier. She’s thirteen years younger than Beetee. She was six years old when he was reaped.
Barbara Lisiecki — older sister of Wiress Lisiecki. She’s four years older than Wiress and was twenty-two when she was reaped. Grew up in Stepanov but moved out to live in the Stills after she was expected to join the family business (the circus/theater group).
Various —
Amalia Remizova — female tribute of the 40th Hunger Games, age 13. Grew up in Stepanov.
Fortran Stepanov — male tribute of the 48th Hunger Games, age 18. Grew up in Stepanov.
Stefan Stepanov — older brother of Fortran Stepanov, Wiress’ district partner for the 48th Hunger Games. He was also in the same kindergarten class as Beetee. Grew up in Stepanov.
Additional Information:
Three is not an “Anyone But A Career” district. They have never been one.
Every single time a Three wins the Hunger Games, a victor from One precedes them. Every. Single. Time. Atlas was preceded by Harrison Sanford, Beetee by Paris Sanford, Wiress by Zircon (“Connor”) Lewis, Marie by Emerald Reeves, and Haskell by Augustus Braun.
Three’s victors are sometimes seen as a buffer between the careers and the outlying districts. Most of the citizens of Three don’t have a problem with the Careers, except for some people from Stepanov.
In Stepanov, residents celebrate what children refer to as “Tree Time” during December—families use left over trees from the workers from Seven and display them in their homes with generational ornaments. Every year, at least one new ornament is added to the tree. Some families use breakable plastic to put new year’s resolutions inside of the ornaments and then break them on New Year’s to read them with family and friends at midnight.
Every Saturday, business owners in Midtown set up a marketplace for citizens, primarily ones from Stepanov.
In the Stills, names are very important. Due to the extreme poverty many are trapped in, a common phrase is, “I have nothing but my first and last”, meaning their first and last name.

hi dayne, i hope you've been well!! totally would like to hear your faults about wiress & beetee's relationship with katniss and any other ideas you have!
this took me a second to get to but hi!! i’ve been okay, life has been a little hectic on my end but it’s alright now. how have things been with you?
now onto my ideas on katniss and beetee and wiress’ relationship because there are so many thoughts…
expanding on this post of mine!
i think that katniss genuinely liking wiress was real, and not just something they needed for the rebellion. wiress is much more amiable that beetee is, and i think katniss would like her in any other situation too.
beetee on the other hand… i do not think katniss would enjoy being in that man’s presence for more than five minutes if he was actually acting like himself. i see a lot of people saying how sad it is that katniss will probably not interact with bee that much post-rebellion due to the bomb because she genuinely liked him and it always makes me giggle because i just can’t imagine her ever actually liking him when he was himself lol.
in any world/universe that wiress and katniss meet before the quarter quell (katniss winning the 74th alone, katniss and peeta winning the 73rd instead, etc etc), i think that the first victor haymitch introduces katniss to is wiress. this is primarily because wiress and haymitch are good friends (they have close games, 48 and 50, and the guy who won the 49th is a little bit of a jackass sooo…) but also because wiress is able to “click” with a lot of new victors very easily. similarly, katniss really likes her immediately and wiress helps her to adjust to life as a victor along with haymitch.
of course, this means that when she meets beetee, she has a preexisting expectation for Three victors, but beetee has a tendency to completely shatter expectations and he does the same here. katniss immediately dislikes him, like on sight. it did not help that wiress talked about beetee so much and haymitch went off of that, talking about how great a guy he was. basically, bee’s reputation preceded him and it did not match up with how he actually acts on a day to day basis.
beetee catches onto this quicker than wiress and haymitch does (he’s very accustomed to people hating him) and he finds it incredibly funny, specifically because they haven’t had any actual interactions at this point.
haymitch is the next to realize, followed by wiress soon after because katniss now goes completely silent when they talk about beetee and this obviously confuses them. haymitch is more calm about it then wiress is, simply because wiress knows beetee way better and she can’t understand why someone who barely knows him would hate him while haymitch knows how beetee seems from an outsider perspective (post for another day i think because i kind of have a lot of thoughts about that too lol).
wiress and katniss are more casual friends after that, wiress is very used to people hating her husband (lol) but she doesn’t typically have very close relationships with the victors who do for obvious reasons. katniss learns not to mention her random hatred for beetee in front of her and though it does ebb away as she learns more about him, it never completely goes away.
i really can’t ever see beetee and katniss being friends. like actual friends. it just doesn’t work in my head like at all. they’re very different people with different personalities and interests and very different opinions. they also have different experiences (like seriously, very different), and don’t have much in common really, except for maybe their love for their siblings. i can see them being allies, maybe acquaintances, but never friends. beetee is, frankly, crazy, and katniss doesn’t have the mental capacity or energy to deal with all that is beetee (but honestly who does besides wiress).
i hope you enjoyed reading all of this word vomit and thoughts on what the relationship between wiress and beetee and katniss would be in another universe 💗
@favoritefandomsfavoritefandom also commented they would like me to explain further on my post about this so i hope you don’t mind me tagging you!!

The state of fandom makes me glad that Jeffrey and Amanda had good takes on Beetee and Wiress. Actually I find it very funny that Amanda said less than five sentenced about Wiress publicly ever but still nailed it when she did. And I wish Jeffrey got to talk more about the politics of Beetee and the canon because he clearly had a lot of incisive things to say but was relegated to soundbites for most of it. (Also, it is very, very sweet that they became friends. Jeffrey described Amanda as "just like a poem, you know? She's like a walking poem. She's just made of dreams")
awww 🥹 i never knew that about jeffrey and amanda, thank for telling me! that’s unbelievably sweet.
also yes i so wish that jeffrey was able to talk more about beetee. i would love to hear about what he would have to say about him. i also just like when anyone even mentions him so lol. maybe i’m a little biased.

relating to your reblog.. no one actually gets beetee i fear. minus you mostly. but the consensus of him being a chill tech guy and not in part a mass murderer both in the arena and in the rebellion & also pretty morally grey in a sense? yknwwww. yknw!
yes yes yes. all do this yes. he’s morally gray. it is so obvious he is morally gray it is practically written on his forehead. his morals are definitely questionable. that is so obvious and yet…
at this point i think i need a therapy session simply so i can rant about other people’s interpretations of beetee. because. do you even understand him. did you even read the trilogy. like i don’t even know what to tell some of you at this point except that you just don’t get him like i do.
