It's done! The outline for—
Tumblr media
—is below the cut. The goal of this project is to explore the following phenomena with as much context and nuance as I can manage, tracing our history over the past 15 years:
What about us, and what about Dan and Phil, drew in and continues to draw in a very specific audience. If they are a ranch metaphor, we are a pizza metaphor 🥗🍕🫶🏻
Why we were Like That™, by which I mean so parasocially invested in them that we became, at times, the most annoying people on the internet. Much of that reputation is undeserved, and the videos on the phandom to date have been strongly negative. So, uh, I guess I'm going to put my face on camera and (mostly) defend us.
Reblog, share in your Discord servers, reply, or send me messages/anon asks with feedback or resources if you have any! Especially if your experience being in this fandom community has been dramatically different from mine. There are TIT spoilers near the end of the outline, but I'm not tagging because certain individuals seem to be lurking over there. Thank you!
Chapters:
Tumblr media
Full outline:
introduction
cold open
felt personally attacked by jonathan haidt's last press tour
showed up to the phrenaissance 11 months late
had an unexpectedly strong response to their new content, needed to find out why
what the hell are we doing here?
- phenomenology (academics are professionally insufferable) - research question 1: what drew the audience in? - research question 2: why were we Like That™?
what we're NOT doing here
- a strict content analysis or "wow we sucked" video - providing sources for things best left uncirculated, thank you
reflexivity (personal biases)
- american zillennial in public health - in the youtube audience by spring 2010 - lurking in the phandom on tumblr 2013-2015, back* since 2019 - fan behavior i did and did not engage in
(----): truly necessary background information, i swear
(pop) cultural trends, tech, and their intersection
- nerd/geek identity and the first online weirdos - broadcast tv & the music industry vs the internet - defining "emo" - blogging & vlogging - early internet comedy
broader social/economic trends
- so the U.S. economy collapsed in 2007 - a decade that sucked except for rom-coms and square enix games - the flip/slide phone + digital camera + mp3 player loadout
(05-8): early youtube and early phil
youtube: a great video uploader without a clear purpose
the content on the website
- crossposts, corporations, and creative/social outlets - omg guys it's amazing phil - contemporary youtube-to-legacy success: justin bieber
the audience of "early adopters"
contemporary social media sites and forums
(2009): origin story
a wild dan appears… in the comments
the global constant that is teenagers being messy online
daring my old school district to sue me
- "one town's war on gay teens" (literal rolling stone headline!) - epidemiology 101: rates of… ugh… "unaliving" oneself - ways kids cope when it seems no adults will help them
the earliest days of dan & phil
- hello internet + pinof - a chronically overexamined timeline - file deleted ---* so how big WAS the audience at the time? ---* acceptable funny/edgy language was just different
contemporary youtube-to-legacy success: lucas cruikshank
omg it's meeeeeee
- how amy & friends were using youtube - ways i was just destined to end up here - being in social environments with peers 3-6 years older
(2010): is it "twenty-ten" or "two thousand ten?"
youtube is a platform about to explode in popularity
- the algorithm before it was The Algorithm™, lost site features - let's take a trip through the wayback machine :3c - actual dan & phil content in 2010 - the green brothers found vidcon - contemporary youtube-to-legacy success: darren criss
social media: also about to explode in popularity
- facebook was cool at the time, believe it or not - law of equivalent exchange: 2010 amy cringe compilation - the birth of instagram and pinterest - youtube slash livejournal (the first phanfics… sort of) - shockfic and its place in the overton window
the beginning of "the great rewiring" as haidt calls it
- ways social media is about to dramatically change - third spaces become online spaces - confounding variable: changing expectations of teens
(2011): the end of an era, the start of an age
a very long tangent on fandom and pop culture
cultural exchange
counterculture and teenagers as concepts
the first british invasion: the 1960s
- beatlemania and its descendents - moral panic about the virtue of tween/teen girls - tv/film/fashion trends being imported from the uk - in parallel, star trek births the modern fandom
the second british invasion: the 1980s
- synth/new pop that came out of the punk movement (hi, emo?) - confined mainly to music and fashion - cool britannia
it's harry freakin' potter
- absolute titan of pop culture influence - the rise of online fandom: examining the horrors ---* what is "wank" ---* flaming, sockpuppeting, and general cyberbullying ---* censorship: ffnet purges, boldthrough, & strikethrough ---* other fandom shenanigans of the time (yaoi paddles, anyone?)

amy's 2011
(2012): why is anyone nostalgic for this
the transition from desktop to mobile
- massive growth in smartphone ownership 2011-2015 - things one might do on mobile one might not do on desktop - non-online ways smartphones changed being a youth™
what is tumblr and why is my child using it
- how the site is meant to work - fandom, memes, aesthetics, and SOME public figures - want to be anxious and depressed in peace? come to tumblr - this site seems a little……… gay ---* tumblr's very queer, very neurodiverse userbase ---* legacy media representation in 2012: bad! ---* actual academic research on tumblr users (yes, it exists) - the tumblr experience for non-native english speakers
amy becomes a vibrating mass of panic and paranoia

The Emergence of NFTs: Transforming Digital Ownership and Creativity
Tumblr media
Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs) have revolutionized the way we think about digital ownership, art, and collectibles. By leveraging blockchain technology, NFTs provide a way to create, buy, sell, and own unique digital assets with verifiable provenance and scarcity. This article explores the world of NFTs, their impact on various industries, key benefits and challenges, and notable projects, including a brief mention of Sexy Meme Coin.
What Are NFTs?
NFTs, or Non-Fungible Tokens, are unique digital assets that represent ownership of a specific item or piece of content, such as art, music, videos, virtual real estate, and more. Unlike cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin or Ethereum, which are fungible and can be exchanged on a one-to-one basis, NFTs are indivisible and unique. Each NFT is recorded on a blockchain, ensuring transparency, security, and verifiability of ownership.
The Rise of NFTs
NFTs gained mainstream attention in 2021 when digital artist Beeple sold an NFT artwork for $69 million at Christie's auction house. This landmark event highlighted the potential of NFTs to transform the art world by providing artists with new revenue streams and collectors with verifiable digital ownership.
Since then, NFTs have exploded in popularity, with various industries exploring their potential applications. From gaming and music to real estate and fashion, NFTs are creating new opportunities for creators, businesses, and investors.
Key Benefits of NFTs
Digital Ownership: NFTs provide a way to establish true digital ownership of assets. Each NFT is unique and can be traced back to its original creator, ensuring authenticity and provenance. This is particularly valuable in the art and collectibles market, where forgery and fraud are significant concerns.
Monetization for Creators: NFTs enable creators to monetize their digital content directly. Artists, musicians, and other content creators can sell their work as NFTs, earning revenue without relying on intermediaries. Additionally, smart contracts can be programmed to provide creators with royalties each time their NFT is resold, ensuring ongoing income.
Interoperability: NFTs can be used across different platforms and ecosystems, allowing for interoperability in the digital world. For example, NFTs representing in-game items can be traded or used across multiple games and virtual worlds, enhancing their utility and value.
Scarcity and Collectibility: NFTs introduce scarcity into the digital realm by creating limited editions or one-of-a-kind items. This scarcity drives the collectibility of NFTs, similar to physical collectibles like rare coins or trading cards.
Challenges Facing NFTs
Environmental Impact: The creation and trading of NFTs, especially on energy-intensive blockchains like Ethereum, have raised concerns about their environmental impact. Efforts are being made to develop more sustainable blockchain solutions, such as Ethereum's transition to a proof-of-stake consensus mechanism.
Market Volatility: The NFT market is highly speculative and can be volatile. Prices for NFTs can fluctuate significantly based on trends, demand, and market sentiment. This volatility poses risks for both creators and investors.
Intellectual Property Issues: NFTs can raise complex intellectual property issues, particularly when it comes to verifying the rightful owner or creator of the digital content. Ensuring that NFTs are legally compliant and respect intellectual property rights is crucial.
Access and Inclusivity: The high costs associated with minting and purchasing NFTs can limit accessibility for some creators and collectors. Reducing these barriers is essential for fostering a more inclusive NFT ecosystem.
Notable NFT Projects
CryptoPunks: CryptoPunks are one of the earliest and most iconic NFT projects. Created by Larva Labs, CryptoPunks are 10,000 unique 24x24 pixel art characters that have become highly sought-after collectibles.
Bored Ape Yacht Club: Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) is a popular NFT collection featuring 10,000 unique hand-drawn ape avatars. Owners of these NFTs gain access to exclusive events and benefits, creating a strong community around the project.
Decentraland: Decentraland is a virtual world where users can buy, sell, and develop virtual real estate as NFTs. This platform allows for the creation of virtual experiences, games, and social spaces, showcasing the potential of NFTs in the metaverse.
NBA Top Shot: NBA Top Shot is a platform that allows users to buy, sell, and trade officially licensed NBA collectible highlights. These video clips, known as "moments," are sold as NFTs and have become popular among sports fans and collectors.
Sexy Meme Coin (SXYM): Sexy Meme Coin integrates NFTs into its platform, offering a decentralized marketplace where users can buy, sell, and trade memes as NFTs. This unique approach combines humor and finance, adding a distinct flavor to the NFT landscape. Learn more about Sexy Meme Coin at Sexy Meme Coin.
The Future of NFTs
The future of NFTs is bright, with continuous innovation and expanding use cases. As technology advances and more industries explore the potential of NFTs, we can expect to see new applications and opportunities emerge. From virtual fashion and digital identities to decentralized finance (DeFi) and beyond, NFTs are poised to reshape various aspects of our digital lives.
Efforts to address environmental concerns, improve accessibility, and ensure legal compliance will be crucial for the sustainable growth of the NFT ecosystem. Collaboration between creators, platforms, and regulators will help build a more robust and inclusive market.
Conclusion
NFTs have ushered in a new era of digital ownership, creativity, and innovation. By providing verifiable ownership and provenance, NFTs are transforming industries ranging from art and entertainment to gaming and virtual real estate. While challenges remain, the potential benefits of NFTs and their ability to empower creators and engage communities make them a significant force in the digital economy.
For those interested in the playful and innovative side of the NFT market, Sexy Meme Coin offers a unique and entertaining platform. Visit Sexy Meme Coin to explore this exciting project and join the community.

One of the things enterprise storage and destruction company Iron Mountain does is handle the archiving of the media industry's vaults. What it has been seeing lately should be a wake-up call: Roughly one-fifth of the hard disk drives dating to the 1990s it was sent are entirely unreadable.
Music industry publication Mix spoke with the people in charge of backing up the entertainment industry. The resulting tale is part explainer on how music is so complicated to archive now, part warning about everyone's data stored on spinning disks.
"In our line of work, if we discover an inherent problem with a format, it makes sense to let everybody know," Robert Koszela, global director for studio growth and strategic initiatives at Iron Mountain, told Mix. "It may sound like a sales pitch, but it's not; it's a call for action."
Hard drives gained popularity over spooled magnetic tape as digital audio workstations, mixing and editing software, and the perceived downsides of tape, including deterioration from substrate separation and fire. But hard drives present their own archival problems. Standard hard drives were also not designed for long-term archival use. You can almost never decouple the magnetic disks from the reading hardware inside, so if either fails, the whole drive dies.
There are also general computer storage issues, including the separation of samples and finished tracks, or proprietary file formats requiring archival versions of software. Still, Iron Mountain tells Mix that “if the disk platters spin and aren’t damaged," it can access the content.
But "if it spins" is becoming a big question mark. Musicians and studios now digging into their archives to remaster tracks often find that drives, even when stored at industry-standard temperature and humidity, have failed in some way, with no partial recovery option available.
“It’s so sad to see a project come into the studio, a hard drive in a brand-new case with the wrapper and the tags from wherever they bought it still in there,” Koszela says. “Next to it is a case with the safety drive in it. Everything’s in order. And both of them are bricks.”
Entropy Wins
Mix's passing along of Iron Mountain's warning hit Hacker News earlier this week, which spurred other tales of faith in the wrong formats. The gist of it: You cannot trust any medium, so you copy important things over and over, into fresh storage. "Optical media rots, magnetic media rots and loses magnetic charge, bearings seize, flash storage loses charge, etc.," writes user abracadaniel. "Entropy wins, sometimes much faster than you’d expect."
There is discussion of how SSDs are not archival at all; how floppy disk quality varied greatly between the 1980s, 1990s, and 2000s; how Linear Tape-Open, a format specifically designed for long-term tape storage, loses compatibility over successive generations; how the binder sleeves we put our CD-Rs and DVD-Rs in have allowed them to bend too much and stop being readable.
Knowing that hard drives will eventually fail is nothing new. Ars wrote about the five stages of hard drive death, including denial, back in 2005. Last year, backup company Backblaze shared failure data on specific drives, showing that drives that fail tend to fail within three years, that no drive was totally exempt, and that time does, generally, wear down all drives. Google's server drive data showed in 2007 that HDD failure was mostly unpredictable, and that temperatures were not really the deciding factor.
So Iron Mountain's admonition to music companies is yet another warning about something we've already heard. But it's always good to get some new data about just how fragile a good archive really is.

After a stellar first year as a group, Venus hit 2019 swinging. They began their "Video Game Era," officially titled "VSCAPE," promoting their upcoming series of video games that would come with every comeback. VSCAPE would be a three-part series in which the girls would be put in three different genres of video games: fighting, action, and simulation.
People weren't exactly sure how seriously Angelico would take this project until their third mini album, "VSCAPE: BATTLE ROYALE," was released along with the accompanying video game under the same title. Of course, you had to buy the album and video game separately, but both came with photocards, so fans were more than happy to spend their money. Fans were even more shocked when the game was good, with stunning graphics that felt utterly out of Angelico's budget.

VENUS IN 2019 AT THEIR COMEBACK SHOWCASES: Bliss (21 via Battle Royale), Baebi (20 via PUNCHOUT), Chloe (19 via LOVE&LOSERS), Sena (17 via PUNCHOUT), and Jiah (16 via Battle Royale).
The game would be similar to Mortal Kombat but less violent. You could pick which Venus member you'd like to fight as and be paired with randomized villains or other Venus members, resulting in many hilarious reaction videos created by their fans, Constellations.
BATTLE ROUND, the title track, would win eight music show trophies and sell over 1 million copies, becoming the first Venus album to achieve this and the first group in Angelico history to have over a million sales.
They would release the second part of the VSCAPE project, another mini album and video game titled "VSCAPE: PUNCHOUT." Many fans expected the same type of gameplay from the first VSCAPE project but were shocked to be met with entirely different graphics and gameplay. This game follows the player through an apocalyptic world, trying to find the cure for the disease that's destroyed the country of South Korea. The graphics and gameplay are very similar to TellTale's The Walking Dead game, which is not shocking as they were the studio behind it. The game was praised for its interactive story elements, the girl's voice acting, and an overall storyline that had many constellations crying by the end of it.

VISION BOARDS FOR BATTLE ROYALE, PUNCHOUT, and LOVE&LOSERS.
PLAYER ONE would be the title track for PUNCHOUT, securing the girls' 12 music show wins as well as being certified platinum by the Korea Music Content Association (KMCA) for 100 million streams just three months after its release. This would mark the second Venus song to achieve this.
The final and most iconic part of the VSCAPE series is "VSCAPE: LOVE & LOSERS," with the title track "LOVE SIMULATOR." The game is just that: a dating simulator featuring all the girls. Though the game concept was quite controversial, as many fans saw it as pandering to a specific audience, the art used for the game was heavily praised for its cute and unique style.
Tumblr media
FAN FAVORITE OUTFITS FROM THE VSCAPE ERA!
Though the game was hit or miss by fans, the song took over South Korea. "Love Simulator" received positive reviews from music critics and appeared on many year-end rankings of the best songs in 2019. Rolling Stone placed "Love Simulator" at number 24 on their list of the top 100 songs in 2019. On the National Circle Digital Chart, the single peaked at number two. The Korea Music Content Association (KMCA) certified it double platinum for surpassing 200 million streams in South Korea. The song was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of Japan (RIAJ) for accumulating over 100 million streams in Japan.
Love Simulator would have 17 music show wins to its name, something virtually unheard of from Angelico. It is the 4th most-awarded song in music show history.
Venus would win their first Daesang this year, taking home Song Of The Year at MAMA for Love Simulator and Best Dance Performance—Female Group. They would also go on to win the Grand Prize at the Seoul Music Awards, marking another Daesang win for the girls.

today i had an idea. that recess therapy channel, but make it wangxian.
teacher lan wangji, who recently adopted a-yuan, carried out his son’s desires to create a youtube channel interviewing other kids. he’s totally inept at it in the beginning, but fortunately his brother helps. and who would've thought? his son ends up making friends and he really finds children’s minds fascinating.
until their channel gets quite big. like, two million subscribers kind of big. other people interviewing him kind of big. and soon enough, his brother says, “wangji, huaisang wants to be part of one of your videos! he said it looks fun!”
nie huaisang didn’t have a large fanbase without reason. he was a well-known digital influencer with over ten million followers and a good writer. though lan wangji finds him odd sometimes, he accepts it. it couldn't bring any harm.
famous last words.
after nie huaisang, a lot of celebrities wanted to join in. lan wangji imagined it was for that facade of selling a good-hearted image inside the industry, but as long as a-yuan seemed to be enjoying, he continued.
in the two years he had the channel, he progressed to five million followers, hosted many top-tier artists along, interviewed hundred of kids — some more enthusiastic than others, that’s rather true — and received some proposals from famous entertainment companies to work with them, which annoyed lan wangji.
he continued being a teacher, a father and a host content creator for long, and one day, his son was checking his emails with him and jumped in excitement, “baba! look, look!”
lan wangji looked. it was a request from a certain wei wuxian’s agency, that, he later discovered, was one of the singer’s a-yuan and his close friends have been listening to lately. apparently, his rock band was very influential internationally, and when having a tour around china once more, he wanted to join for a video (why would his thirteen-year-old a-yuan be interested in rock music when humanity had the classical ones, he could never imagine).
lan wangji accepted, because again, it couldn’t do any harm.
well, maybe he should learn more about that expression, since wei wuxian was absolutely infuriating.
he was just a handsome, dauntless man in tight black pants and an oversized hoodie with the shiniest smile he has ever seen who got his son's favour in just minutes of conversation and could not, for the love of god, stop teasing lan wangji. lan wangji shouldn't be that affected by someone. he shouldn't be affected by the way he didn't care about social manners and plastered himself on lan wangji's side all the while he interviewed the kids as if they were intimate, but oh, what one shouldn't do truly wasn't how one acted or felt.
he found out that wei wuxian did have a good voice, although he secretly thought that he wasted it with those loud songs about rebelling against the government. he found out that he was exceptionally careful with children, withholding a balance of fun and wisdom; he had that carefree creativity and treated their worries with seriousness, struggling not to let them think he judged them childish. lan wangji was truly amazed at his character, and soon, they had recorded about four videos together.
and when it was all uploaded, the comments and views exploded. people focused more on them together than on the kids. it became the most viewed videos of his channels in no time.
"lan zhan, the numbers are growing each day! i'm so happy for that," wei wuxian said on the phone afterwards (when he proposed the idea of exchanging numbers, lan wangji was hesitant, but wei wuxian insisted that it was for them to share bunny videos, so he gave up on fighting the man, but weeks passed and they still talked more about their lives than just sharing said content). "but tell me, lan zhan, i think my amazing presence did bring some touch to your channel, won't you treat me to something as a sign of gratitude? you told me your family had a rule on being polite..."
they did have one. lan wangji told him once and it was enough to be engraved on wei wuxian's mind. he sighed and said, "mn. does wei ying want to have dinner with us tomorrow?"
wei wuxian laughed in apparent joy, and he shook his head slightly. it would be good to have someone over for dinner once in a while, beyond his brother. maybe he'd even buy some wine and meat for him, just as he said he liked.
lan wangji talked to wei wuxian some more, the other explaining about how his band would perform the upcoming sunday. they also talked about children, books and traveling. and on the other side of the room, a-yuan giggled in mischievousness.

Not to make this long winded but it is very obvious that Taylor is an artist others are scared of because of her longevity. Artists nowadays get an insanely fast come up and with a quick high comes a quick low. Longevity isn’t much of a thing artist can obtain nowadays in the age of short form content and the fast fashion of music. She’s been incredibly successful through so many eras of music consumption cds, vinyls , digital download, streaming, radio etc. and she’s STILL in her prime. That’s not something many artists nowadays can live up to. The stars aligned for her and she started at the right time. She also never really subjected herself to trends in the way artists do now which as a level of timelessness that’s lost for some. Omg this is too long I’m sorry💀
don’t be sorry, you’re right! she has always played the long game and evolved with the times. she also does not take shortcuts which most artists do and it backfires because they are then not able to sustain a real fanbase that’s organic and actually wants to invest in them. also, i keep coming back to the jack quote that “no one this good and works this hard.” a lot of people in the industry wanna seem nonchalant and cool, and taylor is one of the rares who loves the work

͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏͏ ͏ ͏ ͏*˚⁺‧͙˚◌ . . ࣪. EMBERS was a South Korean boy group consisting of the members Inseok, Moon, Hada, Elliot, June, and Kenji under Angelico Entertainment from 2018 to 2020. They originally started as a pre-debut group known as “angelboyz” in 2017, releasing two digital singles, “Wave” and “Illusions,” as well as a physical single, “Fun Timez,” before their official debut in which they would reveal their official name to be Embers. Their debut was highly emancipated due to the success of who was heavily marketed as their “sister” group, Venus.
Embers' debut in 2018 with the mini album “Win It All” featuring the title track “LIT” was a resounding success. It not only captured the attention of international audiences but also laid the foundation for a growing domestic fanbase. Their two other releases in 2018, digital singles “Undercover” and “Killing Me”, especially gained them traction within Korea, further solidifying their global recognition. Though seemingly on the rise, Embers’ promotions would begin to dwindle in 2019, only releasing two more singles “Beautiful” and “JikJin” before they would stop making music for the rest of the year only making public appearances and releasing sparse variety content.
In 2020, the group ceased all promotions when the eldest member, Inseok, was found dead at the bottom of the Angelico parking garage stairwell. His death would be deemed a tragic accident, and the group would disband in that same year.

TW // Mentions of Sexual Assault and Murder.
After their disbandment, the once visual of the group June would disappear from the public eye, allegedly going back to Australia to live a normal life with no signs of life from him since the group’s disbandment.
Moon would leave the idol industry for nearly five years, working as a dance teacher and choreographer until he’d redebut in Angelico’s newest boy group, Twilight, in 2024.
Hada would retire from the idol industry as well but in favor of becoming an actor. While he stayed with Angelico after Embers’ disbandment, he would eventually leave the label in 2022 when his contract expired and is now signed to Cathdrial Company as an actor and model.
Elliot would redebut the same year of the disbandment, debuting in the co-ed group Pushing Daisies who are still active to this day.
Finally, Kenji would also retire from the idol industry, going back to America and getting an education. He now lives a normal life and says he has no want or need to go back to music ever again.
Embers are very rarely ever mentioned when Angelico groups are in discussion. This is chalked up to them not making much impact during their short activity period, but Angelico often tries to pretend they never happened. Most official Embers content can only be accessed through archives, as all their official accounts were deleted in 2021. The only official remaining Embers content is their playlist on the official Angelico channel, where a majority of their variety and behind-the-scenes content has been private. The only watchable videos on the playlist are their music videos and dance practices.
Additionally, the members don’t talk about Embers. The most open member is Hada, but only after he officially left Angelico. When asked about his past as an idol, Hada revealed many of the horrors that went on during Embers.
Embers was a mess not only on the outside but also internally. Bullying was rampant in the group, the primary bullies being June and Inseok, who would target Moon and Kenji. It was revealed that Elliot didn’t really live in the dorms and only showed up when he had to, as he didn’t like most of the members. June and Inseok would physically, psychologically, and verbally abuse both Moon and Kenji up until the group’s disbandment.
Unknown to the public, Inseok did not die in a tragic accident but was instead murdered. He was killed by Angelico CEO Son Jinhwa and Rejects members Reid Kim and Aiden Yoon when his involvement in the assault of their groupmate Kubo Miyu was discovered. Though Inseok did not directly assault Miyu, he would facilitate the assault by drugging her drink. It would be revealed during the confrontation with Inseok that Miyu was not their only victim and there was a whole operation between him, June, soloist Hyunwon, and former Rejects member Sunhee.
The murder of June would take place three days later in an Angelico practice room. Son Jinhwa, Reid Kim, and Aiden Yoon would be involved yet again though Reid would be the one to deliver the final blow that killed June. They would later get rid of his body in the wooded area behind the Angelico dorms.
Embers are often not remembered, which is exactly what Jinhwa wanted. Everything always goes according to plan.

𝐻𝒾𝓈 𝒫𝑒𝓇𝒻𝑒𝒸𝓉 𝒫𝑒𝓇𝒻𝑜𝓇𝓂𝑒𝓇
A commision I wrote for the lovely @hurthermore in which Alastor films himself fucking her OC Pastelle >:3
Tumblr media
Alastor had always viewed himself as the master manipulator, never one to be coerced or controlled. He was the master of his own fate, always five steps ahead of the rest, and yet from the very first day he had met her, Pastelle had him wrapped around her little finger.
Perhaps it was her reluctance that had ensnared him to begin with, how she had not simply fawned over him the way so many others had. Rather, it had seemed like she was disinterested in his advances. He attended every one of her shows—even if had to torture himself to listen to the abysmal opening acts—and listened to every ridiculous interview she forced herself to attend—watching Vox stumble over himself for the popstar was as amusing as it was infuriating.
He used his power and status as an overlord—something he rarely did—to get invited to one of her aftershow parties. He could hardly say it was enjoyable; he did not enjoy being trapped in a room full of loud music, loud outfits, and loud people. He did not expect her to notice him; as irritating as it was, she rarely did. He had no plans even to approach her, quite content to watch her from afar for now, but some men just couldn’t keep their hands to themselves. He had watched for a moment too long as she batted a man away, clearly telling him she wasn’t interested, but he just wouldn’t listen.
Alastor should’ve let it be; she had all sorts of security detail for that, but he moved in a blind fury. Static echoed around him, his antlers elongating as he appeared out of the shadows in front of her. He tilted his head, a broad grin across his features, before sharp claws slashed across the throat of the offending demon. Fresh crimson splashed across his face and the top of his shirt as the sinner staggered back, choking on its own blood and Alastor laughed.
It was dreadfully amusing, as the foul beast struggled to survive—clinging onto the last shreds of its miserable life—before Alastor turned around, ignoring the shouts and screams of those around him—who invited The Radio Demon, indeed?
She was the only one not running or shouting—in fear or outrage—as she stared at him with beautiful, wide eyes. She was a beacon of light, calling him to his demise like a moth to the flame. She lifted one finger, wiping some blood off his cheek before she placed it in between her lips, sucking the digit clean. He blinked in shock as she pulled it away with a pop, before he grabbed her jaw and pressed a harsh kiss to her lips.
He hadn’t expected her to lean into the kiss; truth be told, he wasn’t sure what he had been expecting; he just knew that he needed to feel her lips on his.
It was fitting, he supposed, that The Radio Demon started his first-ever relationship with a murder. From that day on, he was Pastelle’s, and she made it quite clear that he belonged to her. Often, he found himself defenceless to her bouts of whimsy, summoning him for the most ridiculous tasks. No matter the fact that he would never perform such acts for anyone else—such as posing for one of her album covers in an absurd fishnet outfit—he found he rather enjoyed doing it for Pastelle, if only to make her smile.
It was how he ended up in the situation he currently found himself in. He had never attempted to hide his disdain for the porn industry and all it entailed, and had never held any interest in starring in such a film himself, and yet when Pastelle had suggested they film one in which she was the star, he couldn’t help how entertaining the idea was.
Pastelle was a born performer, designed to do so just for him, and he rather liked the idea of having her naked, desperate form preserved for him alone. He had agreed, on one condition: that she let him have his way with her. He would have her however he wanted, and she would watch the film while warming his cock on his lap afterwards.
He looked down at her beautiful naked body, sprawled out just for him. He had her tied up on a large pink bed, her ankles and wrists tied to the posts, leaving nothing to the imagination. He tied a blindfold around her eyes and pressed a gag into her mouth, rendering her without vision and unable to speak—she could do nothing but wait for him to play with her.
He ran a slow hand down the length of her naked back, enjoying the way she shivered for him. “Is this what you wanted, Starlight? You wanted to be filmed, so all your devoted fans could see what a filthy slut you are for The Radio Demon?” He whispered, and she nodded her head, a muffled moan trying to escape her lips.
He continued his hand’s exploration of her body, trailing down the rest of her back before he landed on her fat posterior. He gripped both the round cheeks, squeezing them in his hands before he pulled them apart, causing her to gasp. He ran a clawed finger down past her unprepped hole just to watch her shiver, just to watch her arch her back for him. She wasn’t a fan of that, but she’d give it to him because he wanted it, and that pleased him more than the act ever could.
He slowly trailed that clawed finger down her glistening folds, her muffled moan filling the room around them, and he grinned.
“Say please.” He commanded, and her muffled begging amused him greatly.
He slapped her ass, enjoying the way she jumped in shock before he suddenly thrust a finger inside her. She let out a moan at finally feeling something filling her even if it wasn’t enough—his starlight was never full, never satiated. He went at a torturously slow pace, dragging his finger in and out of her while she whined around him, pulling at her restraints as she tried to rock her hips into his finger, but was unable to do so.
He added a second, scissoring them inside her to stretch her wide, and she let out a frustrated cry. He knew what she wanted, what she always wanted, but he preferred her like this. He preferred when she whimpered and whined, when her body desperately rocked into his, chasing a release only he could provide. She arched her back in the way she knew he liked, trying to present herself to him in a way that would make him give in, and he rewarded her by suddenly picking up the pace. She threw her head back as he began to quickly fuck her with his fingers, curling them at just the right spot that had her screaming around the gag.
“My silly little slut, so desperate for me; just how I like you.” He praised, pressing the thumb of his bad against her sensitive clit as he began to draw slow circles around it.
Her entire body was shaking for him, her holes tightening around his fingers as she came close to the edge, and he grinned. He forced a third finger inside of her, forcing her to accept everything he had to offer even as she tightened on him like a vice, before she collapsed into the bed below. She was gasping for air as he slowly pulled his fingers out; he noisily licked his fingers clean so she could hear, but couldn't see, and she let out a displeased whine at his antics.
He walked around her to stand in front of her, untying her gag so he could free it, pushing his lips against hers for a kiss. She moaned into it because she was his—his Starlight—and smiled against her lips. “Naughty girl, I didn’t say you could cum, now did I?”
“Alastor.” She whined, pouting as he pulled away from the kiss.
“You wanted to fuck the deal maker; so let’s make a deal, shall we? I’m going to spank you, and you’re going to count. If you lose track, we start again. If you don’t, I’m going to fuck you harder than you’ve ever been fucked in your life—you’ll be the one seeing stars.” He purred, grinning widely as a cheeky grin fell over her face.
“Deal.” She agreed, and he kissed her again in reward—silly girl, he never said he’d play fair.
He stood back up, walking behind her before summoning his cane. He spun it between his fingers, watching as she shivered with anticipation, before he hit it once against her ass. He gave her a moment as she let out a cry in pain, tapping his fingers along the top of it.
“One.” She finally said, as if she had remembered there were conditions to his little game.
“What a clever girl.” He praised before he hit down again, and again, and again.
She cried out every time, panting, but she kept count, and he felt pride swell in his chest from her obedience—she was such a good girl for him. He placed his staff against the bed, crouching in front of her; her scent was intoxicating.
“Good girls get treats.” He purred before spreading her pussy lips and diving his tongue deep inside of her.
He growled at the taste of her slick, his claws digging into her pliant flesh to spread her wider while she moaned loudly.
“Fuck, yes.” She hissed in pleasure and he purred, sending vibrations across her wet cunt.
He pulled his tongue out, running it down her quivering pussy to lap at her clit while she moaned wantonly.
“Don’t lose count.” He growled, low and menacing, before he started to hit her again.
She cried out in a mixture of pain and pleasure, her poor little brain confused by the pain of his harsh slaps and the pleasure of his long tongue flicking at her clit. He had to admit, she did quite well. She got to fifteen before she gave up.
“I don’t know. I don’t know. Fuck.” She cried, rutting her hips against his face—she was lucky he loved her so much.
He snapped his fingers and the ropes tying her down disappeared into mists of shadow. She wasted no time getting on her hands and knees, crawling backwards to push herself further onto his face. He held her hips to steady her, allowing her to ride his face with reckless abandon, chasing her beautiful high that always left him speechless.
“Don’t stop; don’t you dare fucking stop.” She hissed at him as he lapped at her clit, moaning low at the taste of her—it wasn’t enough; it would never be enough.
He felt her begin to convulse around him, her slick dripping down his face, but he refused to let up. He continued to lap at her clit before he was pushing three fingers back inside her, stretching her wide for him—she’d be grateful for that soon. She screamed out, rocking her hips backwards passionately and he let her use him for her release. He was hers, and she was his, and now he had proof.
He finally pulled away, licking his lips lewdly and ripping off her blindfold.
“My beautiful Starlight.” He sighed; she truly was the most splendid creature he had ever seen in his life.
He slowly stripped himself down in front of her—careful to never show too much in front of the camera. He climbed onto the bed, on top of her, cupping her face in both his hands. “I did not know it was possible to love one as much as I love you, my darling. I ache to carve a hole within myself where you can take residence; I crave to feel you a part of me always; you are mine.”
He kissed her, slow and sensual, as he slowly thrusted inside of her. She wrapped her legs around his waist, gently rocking her hips into him, still feeling the aftermath of her second orgasm.
“Yours.” She agreed.
He released her face to drop her gently on the bed, pressing both hands to the sides of her head as he thrusted inside her. She was so tight and so wet, and so fucking good. He needed more; he deserved more, and he’d take it. He began to push himself deeper inside her, watching as those eyes fluttered closed, and her mouth slowly fell open, delicious moans and whines falling from her plump lips.
“You are mine. You are going to be my wife, Pastelle. The Radio Demon’s slutty bride, and everyone in Pentagram City is going to watch you devote yourself to me for the rest of your life. No one will ever touch you again; no one will ever please you the way I do. You belong on the end of my cock, and you’ll spend the rest of eternity—” He growled before he stopped thrusting.
“—Just—Like—This.” He said, punctuating every word with a deep thrust and she cried out, feeling him hit that wall that made her see stars.
“Oh fuck, Alastor, fuck!” She cried out.
He needed more; it wasn’t enough; he needed more. He buried his hands in her long, thick, pink hair to pull her head up so he could kiss her again, entwining their tongues together as her tight heat wrapped around him. He felt a shiver run down his back, a deep pleasure coil in his abdomen, as she moaned into the kiss. She was his, perfectly his, and he was going to tie her to him for the rest of their lives.
He pulled away from the kiss, grabbing her waist so he could piston deeper inside her, always needing to be deeper.
“Say it. Say you’ll be my wife.” He demanded, panting with a flushed face and a manic grin. “Say it. Say it. Say it.”
“Fuck, I’m your wife! I’m your little wife desperate for your cock!” She cried out and he felt high. He pressed kisses down her neck, running his tongue along her flesh as he did so. He needed to taste all of her; there could be no scent or taste belonging to her that he did not know intimately.
“Yes, you are, all mine.” He agreed, pressing kisses down her large breasts. “My beautiful wife.”
He’d propose properly later; it was enough for her to know, to understand for now. She was his.
He thrust deep inside her, wrapping his lips around a hard nipple to swirl his tongue around it while he pinched the other one. He looked up at her, the way she looked into his eyes driving him with an intense need to please her. She looked up at him like he hung the moon, and the stars, and the sun itself. She looked at him like she loved him, and it was enough to drive any man mad—madder, that is.
He pulled her impossibly further down on his cock, pushing himself as deep inside her as he could go, before he felt that coil finally let loose. He released her tit from his mouth, throwing his head back to let out a cry.
“Pastelle!” He shouted before he felt his knot expand deep inside her, tying her to him for hours—he wished it were longer.
She giggled around him, wrapping her arms around the back of his neck and he let himself collapse on top of her. He turned them around, twisting his body so she was on top, and she sat up on him, pushing his knot deeper inside of her—where it fucking belonged.
“Well my dear, I hope that was to your satisfaction.” He chuckled, and she nodded her head, giving him a blissful smile.
He turned his head to see all the cameras he had positioned around them, wanting to make sure he got every beautiful angle of her perfect face.
“Perhaps we should leak the footage, let all of your darling fans see just how much their favourite popstar really belongs to The Radio Demon.”
She pressed a finger to his nose, booping it, and were it anyone else but her, he’d have bitten it clean off. “Ah, but then they’d see you too!”
“For you, I would allow it. For you, I would allow anything, my love.”
They sat in a comfortable quiet as she rocked herself on his knot, before she began to hum one of her songs, and he relaxed into the bed, crossing his arms behind his head as he watched her.
She truly was the perfect performer—just for him.

Can i get more passage of time/music development yapping ☹️☹️☹️??? I give you official permission to yap the most you can im so interested
YES YES YES YES YES I LOVE THIS ASK
warning beneath the cut SCARY WALL OF TEXT WARNING 😱
decided to divide it into colored parts if you dont gaf about certain elements 😭
second warning all of this is unedited rambling so some points might contradict each other or just plain not make sense.
okay so for CONTEXTTTTT
i have diagnosed OCD, and like, roughly since the end of last year and the beginning of this one, the 'obsession' part of OCD that was negatively affecting me, was the concept of time. how fleeting it was. how it's basically unescapable ALL THINGS MUST PASS (get out of my head george harrison) that shit proper cold dead SCARED ME MAN. sleepless & haunting me in my dreams type shi. sometimes it still does. i try not to think about it too much
to cope, i found great comfort in the 70s-80s since at the time i was and still am hyperfixated on david bowie and that was sort of his prime (love his 90s-00s work tho.) i was also starting to think of how much parallels and similar experiences i have to previous generations and how it's not ALL that bad after all so far. i can still walk to a record store and roller skate if i really wanted to, or go to a diner.
okey here's where the life changing stuff happens. i decided i'd listen to pink floyd's the dark side of the moon. then TIME CAME ON. ohhhh god oh gosh golly god i was bawling and everything the whole song spoke to me on a molecular level. then i found out about DB's song also called time, and i ALSO crode to that. i was like. wow. i'm not alone on this feeling of utter desperation and helplessness as eventually all things Must Pass. (GEORGE HARRSION GTFO)
i used to be bitchy on how i whined i was part of the 'wrong generation.' i thought i was alone, but virtually everyone of almost every era has thought this. somebody who lived my dream life wished they had what i have now.
that's when i started to lowkey realize the parallels and oneness of human experience. i could go to a club in the 70s, and (granted the infrastructure and music remains similar) i could today. nothing would change on how i perceive events. there is no color filter on the past. unless you got huge TVs and stuff all over your house, you could walk around, and think it's the 80s. AND IT'S BASICALLY THE 80s. the way your parents or any other gen Xer saw the world with their *eyes* (not counting the changes in buildings and stuff) is the same as you today pretty much.
i already really enjoy subcultures, and particularly how they evolve and adapt. the indomitable human spirit prevails no matter how gentrified or 'banned' things become. nowadays i feel like there is No Youth Subcultures. at least, none that will pass the test of time and be memorable enough to be remembered in the books. nobody's gonna go to their child and proudly say: "when i was your age, i was a chav" or something. and i credit this to the lack of creativity allowed in the wider music industry.
HEAR ME OUT this is because 90% of youth subcultures had everything to do with music. and now, everything must be palatable. to be clear there's nothing inherently wrong with that type of music, but to me it speaks no soul. it has no risks. contemporary pop music is very much formulaic and this is because now more than ever entertainment (this also applies to movies btw) is more of an investment than passion. I WILL SPECIFY.
music production is so vastly different genre to genre, and we're not letting it flourish because of how much short form content is valued nowadays. LET ME COOK.
tiktoks are formulaic. algorithms are formulaic. WE'RE GETTING SOMEWHERE. there must be an instant hook or rift in music if you want to 'go viral' as a musician. digitized fame doesn't mean SHIT (to me), since clearly monthly listeners don't equate real world fans. album sales are being replaced with streams, and because of how ASS spotify treats its artists, newer, less established acts need to GET ON THE GRIND INSTANTLY to earn Coin. that means that to be smart and work with the exploitative system they're given, they have to make albums filled with 1 minute 30 second songs. so you can technically give them the most amount of streams possible. i feel with this formulaic approach, you can't get 6 minute long gutwrenching guitar pieces. no more 4 minute drum solos, hell avant garde experimental works were 2 people shout their names out at each other for 20 minutes. THERE ARE NO MORE FRANK ZAPPAS.
i'm not going to be one of those sad assholes who claim there's 'no more good rock music' and how it'll never be the same. as corny as this is, the next beatles or nirvana could be right under our noses and we'll NEVER know because of how fame is distributed. it sucks to see a small band beg on tiktok for streams to kickstart their career. but this is what we gotta work with. if we want subcultures to be created and thrive, we gotta go looking underground again, except unlike in the past it's a kajillion times easier now AND everything gets gentrified in 2 tiktok weeks. but this is evolution. MUSIC EVOLUTION
the end honk shoo honk shoo (it's midnight)

era notes.
♡ ⠀⸻⠀ the promotions for this album were the longest the group ever had. MANIAC was promoted for four weeks before the album dropped out while MELTING LOVE for five weeks. SMART originally wasn't going to be promoted on music shows, but because of its popularity, they decided to extend promotions for another two weeks. a special music video was also released a week before the promotions for the title track finished. ♡ ⠀⸻⠀ by the end of the promotions, STUPID CUPID received thirteen awards in total — four during MANIAC, five for MELTING LOVE and four during SMART. ♡ ⠀⸻⠀ the music video for MELTING LOVE received a whopping 80 million views in the first 24 hours! SMART also reached similar numbers after its official release. ♡ ⠀⸻⠀ a lot of fans were thrown back during this era, mainly because the group is known for their cute and artsy music style, so watching the MELTING LOVE music video changed their views drastically. what confused them more was up to the music video release, their teasers have consistently been shown in a softer way. ♡ ⠀⸻⠀ their tiktok was ACTIVE! the girls posted dance challenges non-stop, either with other idols or with their staff! you could not scroll through the fyp without seeing at least three different videos from this era. ♡ ⠀⸻⠀ the group released a lot of content, both on their youtube channel and various other ones. they teased an interview with WIRED, as well as a possible world tour, that may or may not happen soon.

Without a doubt, and by far, the most marginalizing development I've seen within media analysis over the past decade is a shift towards the production of long, flashy videos which tend to require the same for a dialogue to occur. Literally nothing which has been written about Elden Ring, for example, since its release has enjoyed even a fraction of the visibility as a one-hour-and-forty-minutes video by Joseph Smith, or another of similar length by NeverKnowsBest. I don't know when exactly the shift started to happen most obviously -- maybe 2016 or 2017 -- but, today, circumstances are such that pretty much the only way to get real discursive traction on your thoughts about a piece of media is to make a colossus of a video.
Although worried and worrying discourse has complemented the unveiling of newer public A.I. technologies, we've already done a perfectly fine job of out-dating other forms of media communication by way of the aforementioned analytic format; just as, of course, earlier methods of industrial production rendered a whole variety of professions or emphases as outmoded. If you don't have the relevant editing tools at your disposal and/or don't want to spend hundreds of hours cropping footage and making it fit with music and your own narration, well -- too bad! And even then, of course, there's no guarantee that your video will reach your desired scale of an audience. I've found dozens of such videos on YT channels with only a few thousand views, if that; and on each channel it's clear that the people finally gave up after the monumental task of assembling these videos had no equivalent payoff.
Personally, I do still believe in the primacy of the text (or the spoken word, with no competing stimuli); in text as the primary form of critical engagement. More than that -- if I'm going to read a non-fiction work, I want the paged book, and not a digital version. Now, this preference is just that: a preference. And it surely is a preference a good number of people share. I find that a paged book lends itself better to my own retention of the material; and I really enjoy making my notes on the book's paper with a pen. But I don't believe that the construction of multimedia behemoths should be a baseline requirement for discourse.
I wonder if we will, in the near future, start to see some resurgence of the valuation of unembellished textual analysis complementing a more general fatigue with Internet-derived overstimulation. I've already run across numerous channels with fairly sizable communities where there is an appreciation for the "simplicity" of the formats: a person in a room just talking to the camera. I think a lot of people like engaging analysis where the only barrier of significance is devising a good script. To be sure, this is a formidable barrier in itself. I find writing long-form pieces to be the most difficult of any of my creative practices (which include drawing, painting, and music composition). But if writing on media were my main passion or goal in life, I'd feel fairly crushed to know that these projects now required me to put in perhaps quadruple the amount of time to make a blip on the radar of engagement.
EDIT: Thinking on this -- I wonder if there's a parallel to be found in the realm of supplementing one's work with excess-entertainment via social media engagement; e.g., daily Instagram videos. "Excess-entertainment" refers to material that's being made not because everyone who's making it wants to make it, but because each person is now beholden to an abstractly instituted algorithm of engagement -- an algorithm reinforced by audiences who, also under algorithmic influence, will wonder what's going on if a week goes by without something from a Content Creator.
Most artists who I've talked to regarding their Instagram videos say they would be only too happy if they never had to do another upload showing them adding paint or linework to a work-in-progress with lo-fi beats. Similarly, I wonder how many people making these mega-videos actually want to make them, and if we're not rather seeing the production of this material under a mutual, and mutually untrue, assumption of necessity, and the demands of a largely imaginary audience; and how long they'll be able to keep the act up, given the certainly enormous time investments they require (while noting that I am sure the more successful people hire others to do most of the editing for them).
