I hope today you remember that the sky is not humiliated by its vastness, and the mountains remain unashamed of their height. Mother Earth and her oceans are not afraid of their size, and the sun is not concerned if someone has to squint their eyes— it will shine. And it will not apologize for its light. And like the trees teach us that it’s okay to lose our leaves as seasons change and then come back to life, I hope that nature teaches us to look at ourselves and be kind. I hope that we don’t dim or shrink or fold into spaces far too tight. Yes, today I hope you look at yourself and you are kind. BE KIND TO YOURSELF from Sophie Diener’s Someone Somewhere Maybe (St. Martin’s Press/Griffin, 2023)

people in this thread are rightly citing moments like “a little priest” with angela lansbury and len cariou but my first thought, with absolutely no hesitation, was $6.99 to see mike faist do the “did you fall? or did you let go?” scene in DEH, because i am down indescribably bad

“Westkaai Towers 1+2″, Antwerp, Belgium [2009] _ Architects: Diener & Diener _ “Westkaai Towers  3+4″, Antwerp, Belgium [2016] _ Architects: David Chipperfield Architects _ Photos by Spyros Kaprinis [08.05.2023].
“As part of restructuring the Kattendijkdok, Antwerp is experiencing an expansion of its northern city limits. New residential buildings, business and leisure centers as well as new park areas are emerging between the former dock facilities lining the harbor basin. The two apartment towers, both 56m high, are visible from the city center; they are joined by four new apartment blocks that were built subsequently. As set out in the guidelines, the two buildings differ slightly from each other. Both towers have office and retail spaces on the first floor and 40 respectively 44 apartments on the floors above grouped around the central core.
There are eleven different types of apartments (the smallest 70m2, the largest 360 m2) and each floor has one of seven distinct layouts, repeated respectively two to four times consecutively. There are more larger apartments located on the higher floors and more smaller ones on lower floors. The apartments open out onto loggias. The towers are not perfectly aligned, but stand slightly displaced. The outer surface of the rectangular buildings shines with tremulous or flickering light that changes with the time of day and the weather situation, sometimes contrasting, sometimes complementing its surroundings. Windows with different sizes and shapes are grouped together and cut from the building’s outer skin made of ripple glass and aluminum sheet metal. The arrangement of the rooms inside the building is made apparent outside by the grouping of the windows.
The façade’s seemingly random appearance is the result of the systematic combination of the different types of apartments. Aluminum frames enclose the five different kinds of windows. The opaque elements of the façade between the windows consist of three layers: thermal insulation, sheet metal panels, and rippled glass; the rippled glass is mounted in front of the panels, separated by a small gap. The elements are fastened using a profile clamping system, with the window elements being held together by an aluminum frame.”

“David Chipperfield Architects Berlin was appointed to design the two central towers, Tower 3 and 4. Both have a structural presence and uniform materiality, though each tower differs in articulation. Tower 3 to the south is given a horizontal emphasis by stacked projecting floor plates, while Tower 4 is more regular in appearance with straight façades on all sides. The stretched proportions of the ground and uppermost floors establish a hierarchy of base, shaft and crown for each tower.
At ground level, the footprints of the buildings step back to create porticos along the eastern and southern edges respectively. These porticos lead to entrance lobbies clad in walnut. The projecting floor slabs of Tower 3 create balconies on all sides, extending the living areas, while the Tower 4 apartments have loggias situated at the corners of the building. All the apartments have views across the city, the harbour and the River Schelde.”

My Creative Place
My creative sanctuary is in an unexpected urban setting, more lively and riskier than my neighborhood. The Museum of Art and History (MAH), is our downtown anchor; this museum fuels my inspiration. The MAH acts like a creative powerhouse, offering diverse exhibitions, events, and experiences that keep my creative spirits alive. The events and exhibitions often spill onto the streets, creating engaging, artful experiences that inspire joy and connection. As a creative individual, I strive to craft similar enriching experiences for others, so I'm immensely thankful to have a place that nurtures my much-needed creativity.
Being a creative community member, I believe it is vital to create and share moments that astonish and bring joy and inspiration to people's busy lives. Not everyone has the skill or privilege of being a creative, so I think it is my civic responsibility to contribute in this way and uplift others through art and design.

May your heart and your brain take time to listen to each other. May your beautiful mind remain a kind place to be. May your smile arrive at it's own pace on its own terms. May your eyes rain as often as they need. May your body feel nourished. May your soul feel well rested. Wherever your feet are planted, there in that space may you be present. May all your decisions be guided by love and light instead of fear. And may you know that wherever the wind blows you, I am right here. ~ Sophie Diener

"We were brought up by a generation who have generally stayed in their houses and careers for half a lifetime but personally we like movement and revitalisation. We moved into this apartment as an experience to live with the altitude and view, the architecture and design,” says Belgian architect @brunospaas about his apartment in the harbour area of Antwerp, designed by Swiss architectural firm, Diener & Diener Architekten.

DIE PRÜFUNG - Franz Kafka
Tumblr media
Setz dich her und trink!

Real life Mata Haris - over @ShinyNewBooks!
I’m pleased to be taking part today in a blog tour on Shiny New Books for a new title which explores fascinating territory. The book is called “Parallel Lives” by Maryam Diener, and it’s set in the early part of the 20th century. The protagonists are two women, Edith Tudor-Hart and Ursula Kuczynski, who do indeed lead the parallel lives of the title. Both spy for the East out of an ideological…
