Sulfur, salt, and other minerals color the crater of Dallol volcano, part of the Danakil Depression in Ethiopia. At 157 feet (48 meters) below sea level, Dallol is Earth's lowest land volcano.

Troops deployed to Akseum suffered incredibly harsh conditions. Temperatures reached 319⁰K in the heat of the day and fell rapidly to lows of 264⁰K at night and geothermal activity rendered most bodies of water into acidic, hyper-salinated solutions of various poisonous metals. Worse still, unpredictable desert winds carried acidic vapours from rivers, lakes and powerful geysers, degrading equipment and blistering exposed flesh.
To preserve their combat capabilities and maintain proper morale in the face of this acid-blasted, incredibly inhospitable environment, Departmento Munitorum assessors determined that the Zagrosi regiments should be issued with special gloves.
10 old & stubby guardsmen are surely way more exciting than 2, right? That's a 400% increase in guardsmen! Generic army guys & gals they may be, but I so enjoyed painting this lot. Barely an edge highlight to be found, just drybrushing and washing and glazing and stippling my way to victory.
The description of the planet Akseum was heavily inspired by the very real and very incredible Dallol hydrothermal system in Ethiopia, which really does have lakes of acid and probably smells terrible!

Ethiopia seems like an amazing place! Hope you all are well.

Boycott!
Tumblr media
Liberals and Zionists, the most annoying groups of people…
Now that I have your attention:
There's literally just a little bit left to the end here

The chance that I will be able to create my own cartoon one day is small, but that doesn't mean it's not possible… Or something like that
Tumblr media
Yes, that's all I can say…

We are Dr Rashad Dallol and Dr Alaa Matar from Gaza. We are taking this opportunity to share with you our story, mission and ambitions. We have such big dreams and hopes which cannot be accomplished without your help and support.
How we ended up in this messed up situation:
Before the conflict, we lived together with my beloved in-laws in a beautiful home. Our children were deeply attached to them, and our family was a tight-knit unit filled with love and happiness.
Due to the war, we have been separated.

Anfauglith Deep-dive
Exploring Anfauglith’s infertility, design, and Elven interaction with it.
The only plant life that grew was on Haudh-en-Nirnaeth. Volcanic planes are usually very fertile; in this case Thangorodrim’s lava must have been exceptionally acidic.
(‘Acidic’ geologically means ‘high in silica’). Likely it contained high levels of sulfur. Given Ard-Galen is a moisture rich plane, the sulfur would react to produce sulfuric acid, to such an extent that it rendered Anfauglith infertile.
The amount of bodies in Haudh-en-Nirnaeth was clearly enough to rebalance pH. As far as I am aware, this is a chemically possible scenario.
Thus Anfauglith is incredibly sulfurous. Two example environments are Brennisteinsfjoll, Iceland, and Dallol, Ethiopia. Both are volcanic.
Areas of Brennisteinsfjoll may be more fertile than Anfauglith, but the landscaping and mineral colours are similar to what we may expect (images at bottom).
Dallol is a more extreme environment, and interesting in its own right. (Extra resources here). High in carbon dioxide and Sulfur gas, the average yearly temperature is 35 Celsius (95 Fahrenheit). (Images at bottom).
Anfauglith was crossed unbroken by Rochallor and Huan, but likely cannot be by any lesser beast. Of more interest is the Nirnaeth Arnoediad and the fighting and camping of troops on Anfauglith. (The hostility of the battlefield should not be discounted when discussing the reasons for the battle’s loss).

‘Even Lucifer was using a fan’: Brazil bakes as mercilessly hot spring begins
Having just emerged from its warmest winter since 1961, the country is sweltering amid unforgiving and unseasonal temperatures
Tumblr media
A ferocious heatwave was sweeping South America, and samba composer Beto Gago (Stuttering Bob) saw only one thing to do: pop out for an ice-cold beer with his drinking buddy Joel Saideira – Last Order Joel.
“Damn, it was grim around here yesterday,” the 76-year-old musician grimaced as he stood outside his home in Irajá – reputedly Rio’s hottest neighbourhood – with a bohemian’s potbelly spilling out over his lilac shorts.
“It was bloody miserable. Even Lucifer was using a fan! He couldn’t bear the heat either!” chuckled Gago’s son, a 36-year-old sambista called Juninho Thybau.
Irajá – a No 3-shaped chunk of north Rio famed for its samba stars and oppressive heat – is far from the only corner of Brazil that has been baking under unforgiving and unseasonal temperatures. Having just emerged from its warmest winter since 1961, South America’s largest country is experiencing a mercilessly hot start to spring.
With temperatures soaring towards – and in some places over 40C (104F) – newspapers and weather forecasters have drawn comparisons with global hotspots including Iraq, Iran, Saudi Arabia and even Dallol, Ethiopia, which is reputedly the world’s hottest inhabited place.
