Fish fry @ Miku's house
I was a lazy w/ this but I wanted to contribute to the regional Miku trend bc I rarely see ANYTHING representing cajuns, and it's rare I have the motivation to pick up a pen in the first place nowadays
#ig there isn't anything really specific to cajun culture#but i still feel it as casually representative#shit man if we ever get a cajun character who just likes fishin#well that would still be a step up#hatune miku#cajun#louisiana creole

Since Hazbin Hotel popped off, I've seen a few times people asserting that there is something racist about Alastor's backstory, given that he is canonically a Creole from New Orleans, but his demon form does not have any overt indicators of his being a person of color
So here's a gentle reminder and clarification, as a Louisiana Creole myself;
"Louisiana Creoles (French: Créoles de la Louisiane, Louisiana Creole: Moun Kréyòl la Lwizyàn, Spanish: Criollos de Luisiana) are a Louisiana French ethnic group descended from the inhabitants of colonial Louisiana before it became a part of the United States during the period of both French and Spanish rule. They share cultural ties such as the traditional use of the French, Spanish, and Creole languages and predominant practice of Catholicism. Some mistakenly think the term is a racial designation, while in fact people of European, of African, and of mixed ancestry have all been termed "Creole" since the 18th century." (x, emphasis mine)
Please pay special attention to the last sentence. While many, probably most, Louisiana Creoles are of mixed-race ancestry, not all are. I'm not saying there aren't valid critiques of Alastor as a character, this just isn't one of them
#Sword speaks#Hazbin Hotel#Hazbin Hotel Alastor#Radio Demon#I could add an entire bibliography on this cause the development of Louisiana Creoles as a culture is actually really interesting#and I've been doing a ton of research into my family history and in turn Louisiana history#because Louisiana my love 💕#but I keep encountering this misconception about Creoles from both white and black people alike#and like the only reason we have this misconception is cause when the Americans showed up#they took the complicated French social and racial systems and shoved it in a dualistic racial model#and white Americans saw that a lot of Creoles were mixed race so just assumed that's what the term meant#it didn't help when Jim Crow geared up and there was an active effort by racist white Creoles to distance themselves from Creoles of color#tldr: shit be nuanced so don't throw around accusations of racism all willy-nilly

okay this is probably a dumb question but re: catholicism in the antebellum/civil war south. i have ancestry in louisiana from the late 18th century up through the civil war that was french-speaking and mostly of french descent (though one person who came to louisiana from switzerland). these people weren't cajun, because they were never in canada. is it correct to call them creole/louisiana creole? I've always heard that used primarily to refer to mixed-race people, and all my ancestors were white as far as I know, but wikipedia says that creole is a term that crosses racial boundaries. also does it make a difference if the one guy was technically Swiss? I guess the Swiss guy wouldn't be Creole anything because he was not born in the "New World" but his wife and kids would have been, right?
#i would not call myself creole lol bc i have zero connection to that culture (tho ironically my grandma in a completely different branch of#the family was born and raised in lousiana but to anglo yankee parents much later)#but i'm just trying to figure out what this group of people would have been called

Btw. If you're not cajun, creole, or franco-louisianan, you don't get to tell us who we are. Period. This is like discourse 101 for all other minorities but we get the short end of the stick because some of us are white.

Where is St Lucia/Lucian and what's it like there?
🇱🇨Saint Lucia changed hands of ownership between England & France 14 times!! Lol yes a whopping 14 times (7 times France, 7 times England) until England eventually won. But there is still many remnants of French influence that can be found like in our Kwèyól (Creole) language for example. We gained independence on February 22, 1979. We’re a volcanic island and you can even explore the Sulphur Springs where the (mostly inactive I hope🤣) volcano is. The drive in Sulphur Springs is one of our main tourist attractions along with our beautiful mountain peaks The Pitons. And if you like hiking you can tackle the Petit Piton and the more difficult Gros Piton. Like most islands we have our cultural events and our yearly carnival which is super lit 💃🏾✨🪅🎊🌴🇱🇨 Lots of great food especially fresh seafood and there are weekly fish frys you can attend in different parts of the island. There’s more I could mention but that’s a little quick summary for you 👍🏾❤️ 🏝️

*Sweating throwing up nauseous dizzy*
What if vox is Asian American
#Hazbin hotel#vox#hcs#musings#idk I just think it would be cool#i feel like there aren’t a lot of East Asian villains that are allowed to be sloppy boisterous and vulgar outside of media made by Asian#people#I know a lot of people draw his human form white as a sheet but i dunno#I also think that would explain why he initially clicks with Alastor so much#both of them are part of marginalized groups in their respective time periods#swamped by the expectation to be subservient to their white peers#but they both rise above it with their passion for the innovation of entertainment#to describe that dynamic it’s basically that Alastor is the burr to vox’s hamilton . except in this version burr wins on most levels#this also gives context to vox’s raging inferiority complex bc. if his parents were immigrants at the time compounded with the economic#and war time struggles then that probably made him feel pressured to succeed quick and hard#vox would definitely be disconnected from his culture and obsessed with pursuing the American dream#whereas Alastor i think would be v in tune with creole based language and culture as evidenced by his close relationship with his mother#near the end of Alastor and vox’s friendship Alastor would likely mock him for abandoning his roots in search of prominence#it would actually be quite sad
