For those not tapped into Australian politics, King Charles is in Australia to conduct his "historic first tour to the commonwealth realm" i.e visting countries that King Charles is supposedly a monarch to.
Indigenous senator Lidia Thorpe had requested an audience with King Charles for weeks prior to this visit, she wrote countless letters to speak to him. Unlike other commonwealth nations and other former Brisitish colonies, a treaty with Indigenous peoples in Australia was never formed. Their land was never ceded to the British Crown. After being denied and ignored, Lidia Thorpe, draped in a traditional possum skin cloak, stormed in the Great Hall during the reception for Charles at Parliament House in the capital shouting the following:
I literally can't even look at these photos without getting goosebumps.
#always in awe of indigenous women. of their strength and resistance and courage#Lidia Thorpe wore a âfrom the river to the sea Palestine will be freeâ dress while the Aus parliament was trying to make it hate speech#i genuinely burst into tears watching the video#just need this on my blog tbh#lidia thorpe#indigenous#aboriginal

The Courage to Be Free: Florida's Blueprint for America's Revival The Courage to Be Free: Florida's Blueprint for America's Revival Hardcover â February 28, 2023 by Ron DeSantis (Author) ---Brand New--- No American leader has accomplished more for his state than Governor Ron DeSantis. Now he reveals how he did it. He played baseball for Yale, graduated with honors from Harvard Law School, and served in Iraq and in the halls of Congress. But in all these places, Ron DeSantis learned the same lesson: He didnât want to be part of the leftist elite. His heart was always for the people of Florida, one of the most diverse and culturally rich states in the union. Since becoming governor of the Sunshine State, he has foughtâand wonâbattle after battle, defeating not just opposition from the political left, but a barrage of hostile media coverage proclaiming the end of the world. When he implemented COVID-19 policies based on evidence and focused on freedoms, the press launched a smear campaign against him, yet Floridaâs economy thrived, its education system outperformed the nation, and Floridaâs COVID mortality rate for seniors was lower than that in thirty-eight states. When he enacted policies to keep leftist political concepts like critical race theory and woke gender ideology out of Floridaâs classrooms, the media demagogued his actions, but parents across Florida rallied to his cause. Dishonest attacks from the media donât deter him. In fact, DeSantis keeps racking up wins for Floridians. In 2022, the governor delivered a historic, record-setting victory, winning by nearly 20 points and more than 1.5 million votes. A firsthand account from the blue-collar boy who grew up to take on Disney and Dr. Fauci, The Courage to Be Free delivers something rare from an elected leader: stories of victory. This book is a winning blueprint for patriots across the country. And it is a rallying cry for every American who wishes to preserve our liberties. About the Author Ron DeSantis is Floridaâs forty-sixth governor and one of the few American statesmen to receive bipartisan praise for his leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic. An honors graduate of Yale University and Harvard Law School, he served as an officer in the U.S. Navy and an adviser to a SEAL commander in Iraq, earning the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal and the Bronze Star. In 2012 he was elected to Congress, where he served on the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform. He is married to Emmy Awardâwinning anchor Casey DeSantis, and they live in Tallahassee with their three children, Madison, Mason, and Mamie. spare some spy hcs? đ
OKAY. ok. so i have been putting off answering this ask because iâm admittedly very shy and very afraid of sharing my headcanons. and also because i have A LOT OF THEM.. but here we are!
here are my headcanon spies :) René works for RED and Jacques works for BLU!
where to start, where to start⊠i have a LOT of headcanons for them, iâll be talking for FOREVER here. iâll just start with story because why not! xP
RenĂ©âs parents were also agents/spies, so he was always destined to be one as well. And he lives up to his parentsâ legacies! Heâs most notorious for destroying gangs and mobs and the like from the outside in. He was brought to America years ago to take out a dangerous mob boss, but unfortunately found himself infatuated (and involved) with the bossâ daughter. Luckily for him, the bossâ daughter wanted the guy dead, too.
RenĂ©âs story is honestly a lot more fleshed out than Jacquesâ, but here goes anyway:
Jacquesâ father was a very rich and powerful man in politics. Jacques himself was the result of an affair, and to keep it hush-hush, his father decided to raise him. Raise is a strong word, thoughâ but he did help his father gain intelligence and blackmail on opposing political parties. Jacques proved to be a promising spy since childhood.
If anyone has any suggestions/ideas for Jacquesâ story, let me know haha x) he didnât have the greatest upbringing per seâŠ
last thing on this section i wanna talk about is the Scouts. RenĂ© is related to both of the Scouts; heâs RED Scout (Jeremy)âs biological father, and heâs BLU Scout (James)â adoptive/step-father. Jacques has no relation to either scout, but acts as a guardian figure to BLU Scout.
anyway, this is the part where i continue talking about other miscellaneous headcanons! and these come with doodles :)
You couldnât catch RenĂ© DEAD without his mask, or his suit! Heâd neeever take them off around other people (âother peopleâ is mainly just Scout. For obvious reasons.) Meanwhile, Jacques is pretty lenient in letting his teammates see his face! Everyone on BLUâs seen his face at least once.
A big part of why RenĂ© refuses to strip down is also due to the fact he has a LOT of tattoos. No doodle for this one because Iâve yet to decide on what tattoos to put on him (ideas are very welcome!!), but yeah! Most of the tattoos were âforcedâ onto him/he had to get for jobs and âfitting inâ with bad crowds, but a good few of them were of his own accord, too.
Jacques doesnât have tattoos, but he has a myriad of another thing: scars! Lots and lots of scars on this guy. Faded and old, sure, but theyâre there. Most prominent ones are the one around his neck (from when the RED Medic beheaded him) and the ones on his forearms (those are from the LAST time he was imprisonedâ looong storyâŠ)
RenĂ© doesnât cook very often for his team, but when he does, everyoneâs always BLOWN AWAY by this guyâs cooking! RenĂ©âs really bad at taking compliments, thoughâ (âCooking food thatâs remotely edible isnât a compliment, itâs basic survival.â) âbut rest assured heâll be thinking about it for the next month. Jacques, however⊠Do NOT let this guy into the kitchen. Ever. The BLU base has a special fire extinguisher âIn Case Spy Decides To Turn On The Stoveâ
oooh, this one is an hc and a HALF to me. RenĂ© much prefers working alone. Itâs just in his nature, being isolated and whatnot. He likes to deal with things by himselfâ maybe he doesnât want to burden others? On the contrary, Jacques NEVER works alone. Itâs a trait heâs had even before being hired to BLU. You never know when things could go wrong, so itâs best to have someone else to fall back to⊠or someone else you can blame!
these hcs both have something to do with how RenĂ© and Jacques show their trust in other people :) itâs a bit convoluted but it gets there:
RenĂ© is, amusingly, very bad at remembering names. Almost laughably bad. There have been many-a-story of his days before RED where heâd get a targetâs name wrong, even after heâd repeated it in his head dozens of times over. Names are difficult for him, so if he remembers yours, it means you mean a lot to him! He prefers using his teammatesâ names rather than their titles. RenĂ© is unaware of how charming this specifc trait is to his coworkers (they saw how much work and effort it took for him to memorize their names, theyâre just happy with how far heâs come!)
Jacques has a⊠to put simply, very complicated relationship with food. But the one thing heâll never turn down is sweets. His favorites especially being chocolate bonbons. Jacques has a hard time eating in front of others, let alone sharing his food! But if he genuinely likes and trusts you enough, heâd have half the mind to share with you. Admittedly, he hasnât brought himself to share with most of the members of his team yet, except for a select few. Mostly BLU Medic and BLU Sniper.
â
and of course, eventually, EVENTUALLY, these two also become friends! it took a little bit but believe me, they both respect each otherâs skill in their job :)
AHHg i could go sooo much longer about themâ from things like their physical traits (how much teeth they have? itâs a pressing question) or different periods of their life (why did renĂ© have to leave his family? why was jacques imprisoned for the last time?) BUT this post is so⊠so, so long. My fingers hurt from typing
If youâve managed to read through this Beast, THANK YOU RAAHH!!! thanks so much for asking this, too. i hope to spare more hcs someday. hehe ^_^
#team fortress 2#tf2#spy tf2#tf2 spy#era.png#id in alt text#VERY LONG POST !!! very text heavy aaouhg#ok its taking all of my courage to make this post but i promised myself iâd get it out before i-#-turned nineteen LFJDKG. so. here they are :) renĂ© and jacques my pookiesâŠ#UMM⊠idk what else to say here. thanks for asking and if you read this: THANK YOU ALSO ^_^#tumblr does NAWT want to format this post properly im going to pull my hair out#smoking#ask to tag#JUST IN CASE !!! thereâs some slight implications of stuff here and there so if anyone needs anything tagged then feel free to lmk!#i also evidently have. a LOT of hcs regarding the BLU team. coughs. dont worry about that right now. a silly shoujo concept with jade where he picks up your notebook after you've left it in class. resourceful eel that he is, he flips through the pages out of curiosity. he's certain he'll just find your notes or doodles you've made out of boredom, but it never hurts to pry just a little. he won't tell a soul if he finds anything embarrassing. certainly not!
to his surprise, he finds a bucket list of sorts, which details all of the things you hope to accomplish by the end of your time at nrc. you're quite methodical about this list. there are academic goals. personal goals. social goals. you've checked some of them off: do well on this year's midterm. commit to an exercise routine. make more friends. etc. etc.
but then he happens upon the romantic goals. things like holding hands, kissing, cuddling, going on dates, sharing meals... he reads through every item on this specific list and finds himself blushing like a lovestruck maiden. it's not because of the nature of this list but, rather, the notes you've made in the margin: possible people to try this with: jade leech?
and his name is the only one you've written! :O is this...an indirect love confession? do you have feelings for him? is now a good time to hopefully try to kindle a deeper bond with you after he's spent so much time pining from the sidelines??????
tl;dr - jade wants to be the one to complete the goals on your romance list, but you're too prideful (and suspicious of him) to admit you'd ever think of him in such a light! that's too embarrassing! too much opportunity to be exploited. and jade's a bit of a shameless coward.
so he decides there's only one solution: he's going to try to court you. the mer way. the human way would be much too obvious, after all. ^^;;;;
#meraki mumbles#the climax to this story is that you both spend all of your years at nrc fooling around and toeing the line of romance#it's a 'will they won't they' when it comes to possible confessions#and it all comes together at graduation when jade finally confesses after four long years :)#jade who gets drunk because he needs the liquid courage or else he'll ramble#and maybe everyone's doing karaoke#party the weekend before graduation week#jade grabbing the microphone and drunkenly confessing his heart out#OOOOO HE'S SO *squishes him*#forgive so many ramblings... the eel is living rent-free again

Adding To or Starting a Garden
AKA, the beginning of the Plants-Related section of this series.
This is my third post in a series Iâll be making on how to increase biodiversity on a budget! Iâm not an expert--just an enthusiast--but I hope something you find here helps!Â
Got an area of lawn youâd like to convert to a wildlife haven? An area you can stick some hanging baskets in? Want to know how your garden of tomatoes and zucchinis is already putting in a lot of work? This is the section for you!
It would be dumb of me to not acknowledge that the act of gardening can come with a lot of costs. Buying seeds, buying plants, buying soil, raised bed materials, mulch, etc. ⊠it can all get a bit daunting, letâs be honest! But thereâs quite a few ways to get seeds and plants for free or extremely cheap, which Iâll be addressing in this section! The next section will be all about addressing the other Costs in gardening and how to mitigate or eliminate them entirely.
Also, do keep in mind; thereâs no need to try and convert a whole area from lawn to garden or unused to garden at once. In fact, it could actually be extremely beneficial to do it a little at a time--maybe four or five square feet to start out.
Front Lawn (or Managing Principles)
If you live in a place where youâre required to have a grass turf lawn (HOAâs come to mindâŠ), try replacing it with native grasses instead! You could even possibly use a low-growing ground cover plant like clover to a similar effect! Reseeding/replacing an entire lawn can be a big upfront cost, but even just letting the lawn be a little messy and tall helps. If the lawn gets patchy, leave the bare spots for a little while and something different will likely pop up! Pioneer species will fill the gaps and provide benefits to other plants around them, support animals, and more! If you want to take the guesswork out of it, you could always research what the pioneer species are in your area and plant the ones you like most.Â
Obtaining Seeds for Cheap or Free
The cheapest way to start a garden is by far via seeds. However, seeds can be a bit complicated to grow, and some sources make them⊠way overpriced. Fortunately there are ways to get seeds for little to no cost!Â
Some places sell seeds for as low as a dollar, 50 cents, or 25 cents! The packets may not have a lot of seeds, but itâs definitely a good start for a low budget! Iâve personally bought cheap seed packets at Walmart--the Ferry-Morse and Burpee brands are not what weâre looking for here. Typically the cheaper ones Iâve found are American Seed (which is owned by Green Garden Products, which also owns Ferry-Morse, Livingston Seed, McKenzie Seed, and Seeds of Change. Do with that information what you will), but theyâre rarely stocked near the Ferry-Morse ones in the Formal Gardening Section. Iâve most often found them on end caps near the gardening section, so you may have to weave through a few aisles to find them, but once you do thereâs an array of flower and vegetable seeds to select from! Alternatively, Iâve found seeds at Dollar Tree sold 2 or 4 for a dollar in Spring as part of their seasonal product; however, when theyâre out of stock, theyâre typically out of stock for the year. Try to check them out early in the year!
Otherwise, other seed companies like Urban Farmer or Botanical Interests will often have semi-frequent sales in spring and fall, when people are stocking up on seeds--joining their email lists can help you be the first to know when a good sale is going on!
Some foods from grocery stores will provide seeds that you can use in the garden as well. Iâve had the most luck with store-bought bagged beans, peppers, and tomatoes. Some people have had luck with watermelons, apples, citrus, squash, and more. Do keep in mind that you likely wonât get the same variety of fruit/vegetable as the one you bought--the resulting plant may look different and taste different.
Give it a shot! Pick some beans you like--if they don't grow well, at least you can eat the rest!
If you live in the US, food-producing live plants, bare roots, and seeds can often be purchased with SNAP benefits. But what does growing fruits, veggies, and herbs have to do with boosting biodiversity? While food crops arenât typically native, they still provide valuable shelter for native insects. Some plants even have intricate relationships with native fauna--like the squash bee, a solitary bee which exclusively pollinates cucurbits like pumpkins, squash, and zucchini. And we get to benefit more directly as well! If youâre planting a diverse range of foods in your garden (as opposed to the swaths of single-plant farms that typically produce whatâs sent to grocery stores), youâre supporting high levels of biodiversity by providing a variety of plants for creatures to live and hunt around.
Most of the time, when we think of boosting biodiversity with a garden, we think of a colorful flower garden teeming with pollinator species. However, if weâre striving to use native species, it can be a bit difficult to find some species in stores. I can say from experience that trying to find any wildflower seeds other than butterfly weed, purple coneflowers, and black-eyed-susans is⊠challenging, if you limit yourself to stores like Walmart, Home Depot, and Loweâs. You might occasionally get lucky with an ACE Hardware or a local nursery, but even then sometimes it can be hard to track down who in your area is selling what--let alone if you live in an area where no one really is selling native plants or their seeds. Not to mention, even once you find a local or online store selling the seeds you want, they can sometimes cost a pretty penny. So what do you do?
If you have the option to, consider gathering native seeds yourself! Get good at identifying the native flora and fauna--or at least, a few target plants and their lookalikes--and get ready to go! Learn where they tend to grow, when theyâll be seeding, etc. Try to identify the plant before it goes to seed (for most plants, it's easiest to identify when flowering), then check back regularly to gather seeds. Typically, if I want to learn how to collect seed from a specific plant, I just search it on Google or YouTube--oftentimes, I'm lead to the GrowItBuildIt Youtube page, so it may be a helpful resource for you as well! Of course, make sure to leave plenty of seed behind so the wild population can repopulate, and seed can feed other creatures in the area. A good rule of thumb is to take no more than 1/3rd of what's available.
Buying seed in bulk is an option if you can afford the upfront cost. Try teaming up with a few friends to buy some bulk seeds and split them amongst yourselves--youâll get tons of seed! Prairie Moon is a popular site that'll sell seeds by the pound if you can afford the price--though they're in the US, and I believe they focus on Midwest and East Coast natives.
If you want to cheat the system, donât buy bulk sunflower seeds--buy bags of sunflower seeds being sold as birdseed. Theyâre typically all black oil sunflower seeds, but theyâll sprout, and theyâre fairly cheap for the amount you get!
However, beware generic wildflower seed mixes! Many brands like to sell wildflower seed mixes in big box stores like Home Depot, Target, or even Dollar Tree, but theyâll often include flowers that arenât native or possibly even invasive in your region! Before you make any purchases, double check to make sure the contained seeds wonât do more harm than good! A quality source of native seeds will provide English and Latin names for all seeds included, and will be native to the region or at least non-invasive.Â
See this? I don't trust this.
Thereâs a good handful of programs online thatâll send you free seeds if youâre planning to start a native habitat project! Poke around online and see what you can find; you might get lucky! The best time to start looking for these is fall and winter, I find--by early spring, many of them are either done or beginning to wind down... though some also start up in spring. Ultimately--just check regularly! You never know what you can find!
Other Ways to Get Plants
Donât want to start from seed? Thatâs fair! You can try cuttings! Just be sure not to take too much of the plant while you do so. Make sure youâve gotten a few leaf nodes on your cutting, and cut any flowers you may have gotten. Make sure to leave some blooms and foliage on the original plant for the creatures in the current habitat--you donât want to destroy one habitat to make another in your garden. Thereâs tons of methods of rooting cuttings, many of which have different efficacy rates for different plants, but thatâs a topic for another post.
If you find seedlings growing in a place where they wonât be able to sustain themselves long-term, or are in danger of being destroyed, consider relocating them! You may be able to gently dig up and transplant the seedling to your garden. Donât do this if theyâre in a place where they can easily survive--ideally, youâll be taking plants from sidewalk cracks, heavily maintained public gardens, roadsides, etc. Do be careful while doing this--ensure your safety first! Â
Youâre totally allowed to join gardening communities like clubs, facebook groups, and more before youâve even put a trowel to the dirt. These are great places to learn information and advice! Many gardeners are more than happy to help out a new gardener, and will eagerly provide seeds, cuttings, or even baby plants! Talk to some people about your gardening journey and what youâre hoping to do, and you just might find some kindred spirits--or at least get more people interested in the topic!Â
Seed and plant giveaways and trades happen all the time in gardening clubs, as well as online! Just poke around and see what you can find! Some are explicitly trades, meaning youâre expected to send something in return, but once you get your feet on the ground with some plant knowledge youâll be stellar! You may be able to explain youâre just starting out, and someone may send you seeds without expecting a trade, but Iâd suggest trying giveaways first.Â
Poke around online and see if thereâs a local chapter of your stateâs native plant society. From there, youâll likely be able to find a calendar of events--many of them will host plant sales in the spring, with a bunch of native plant seedlings ripe for the pickings if you can make it out and have some money to spare! Fair warning, though, youâll want to get there early if you can. If they say theyâre starting at 10, try to get there by 9:45. Year after year, thereâs always record turnout, and they sell out of plants faster than ever. Just trust me on this. Iâve been let down; hopefully you wonât have to be.
Some libraries are beginning to host seed libraries! Check around and see if your library has one! Ideally, the system works best if you also have seeds to contribute in return, but if youâre just starting out Iâm sure they wonât mind you taking some seeds! Just consider saving some seeds to contribute in the future and pay it forward. If your library doesnât have a seed library? Consider asking if theyâd be willing to start one! Community interest is a great way to get the ball rolling on projects like these, but theyâll only know the community is interested if the community tells them theyâre interested!
Volunteer to Garden for/with Someone Else
Maybe someone in your area wants to garden, but is struggling to find the time/energy. Many elderly people who used to garden simply canât anymore but still would like a garden. Other people may love to have a helping hand in their garden. You might even find a few people in your area interested in renting and sharing a community garden plot with others, so they don't have to handle it all on their own! They may be interested in increasing biodiversity right now, or may be willing to if itâs brought up to them. You might be just the kind of person someone needs! Since it won't be your garden, youâll likely need a bit of permission and collaboration to get anything in particular going, but itâs worth a shot and a way to maybe even make friends!Â
Again, your mileage may vary with some of these. You may not know where there's a bunch of wildflowers growing in your area, or maybe your local library doesn't have a free seed library. That's okay! Do what you're able to, find what you can find, get what you can get! And there's never any shame with starting small--in fact, starting small can make the project easier to manage and expand when you're able!
That's the end of this post! My next post is gonna be about ways to start growing plants cheaply--low cost seed starting set ups, essentially. There's a lot of good options, many of which I've used myself even! Until then, I hope this advice is helpful! Feel free to reply with any questions, success stories, or anything you think I may have forgotten to add in!
#biodiversity#solarpunk#gardening#outdoor gardening#growing from seed#ani rambles#out of queue#the biodiversity saga#i will be honest I have never flat out approached people to offer to help them garden#HOWEVER. People HAVE approached ME asking ME to help THEM with/plan THEIR garden#granted it was after I'd been gardening for a good few years. and its mostly family or family friends but yknow#people would be like 'oh wanna help me with my veggie garden?' even before I tried growing vegetables#i don't think the library near me has a seed library but you just wait until i. get the courage. to go to the library regularly.#i've seen people also make their own little seed library structures kinda like a little free library but like#i dont think my neighborhood is about that life.#if any of yall have those though it could be a great resource! also send pics because I love seeing them#not to say that this post should become a giant seed trade but if it did become that i would be the opposite of mad#if there's any typos blame my sister shes got the hotel room at like 60-something degrees and I am FREEZING#welp time to shut up now bye

Alexei Navalny's motto: "I am not afraid, and you shouldn't be afraid either."
+
âEverything will be all right. And, even if it wonât be, weâll have the consolation of having lived honest lives.â
Alexei Navalny (1976-2024)
+
They couldn't break him, no matter how hard and how long they tried, and so they killed him.
They still can hear his laughter in their ears.
His posthumous life of a heroic, historic figure has begun and will continue for generations to come.
His dead-eyed murderer's life, on the other hand, has been over from the very first, and although his body and his diseased mind may still be functioning, he is dead to life and despised and wished to be dead by all the decent people in the world. He was born dead, has lived his horrible shameful life in death, and death will be his only legacy.
(Mikhail Iossel)
