List of the cooking channels I watched last week instead of doing my classwork:
Alexandra’s Kitchen - bread, desserts and some other (mostly vegetarian) dishes
Apron - baking
*Cafe Bagheri - Persian food, not many videos as of yet, but he is so charming (just hope he finds a tripod for his camera soon), still I hope his channel will grow!
CHawjCreations - Hmong food, also some drinks
Chef Javad Javadi - Persian food BUT he speaks only Persian and there aren’t any subtitles as far as I can tell, so I guess I’ll have to force my bf to translate
*Chinese Cooking Demystified - Chinese food (and the channel that is responsible for my downward spiral in terms of productivity), many easy explanations how to prepare the basic ingredients like tofu and recreation of street food.
Cooking tree 쿠킹트리 - extremely pretty cakes vol. 1, also other baked goods
Cooking With Yousef - Persian food, many dishes but his descriptions sadly only list the ingredients and not the recipe itself
**emmymade - Japanese food & a wide array of other things
***Food52 - bit of everything
Hari Ghotra - Indian food, sometimes livestreams
Helen’s Recipes - Vietnamese food
*Maangchi - Korean food with probably the happiest woman on this planet
Maha’s Lebanese Cuisine - Lebanese food, time & temperature info in the description even if not in the voiceover
Manjula’s Kitchen - Indian food
**Marion’s Kitchen - Thai & Australian (?) food & a wide array of other things
Miwa’s Japanese Cooking - Japanese food, with focus on easy recipes for mothers
Pailin’s Kitchen - Thai food
**Yeung Man Cooking - Cantonese food, as well as food from other (mostly Asian countries), all vegan
우미스베이킹Umi's baking - baking
조꽁드Joconde's Baking - extremely pretty cakes vol. 2
* personal favourites ** I tried really hard to find channels made by the people from the actual cultures, so if there is a channel making all kinds of food from across the globe, I still mostly followed them for their recipes of "their own” cuisine. *** collective of people in front of the camera
#the intricate research really was typing in 'xx food' into the search bar or looking at recommended videos#And these channels are (almost) all people cooking in their actual homes and not the billion streetfood channels#Rosa#pls tell me if I fucked up the links somewhere#most of these notes are for myself that's why not everyone gets the same amount of description#honorary mention: Liziqi and Jun's kitchen but I watch those videos only for the aesthetic not for the recipes

Korean Youtube Channel Recommendations
Hey guys! I was just talking to someone that was asking me about my recommendations for Korean youtube channels to help practice and get exposed to more Korean. I thought other people might find these recommendations useful so I decided to make a post about it! Today I’m focusing on channels of Korean natives, although I do still love The World of Dave and Korean Englishman. (ko/en) refers to what subtitles are available.
이연LEEYEON (ko/en~) This is an art youtuber who takes on different topics such as overcoming a slump, self-studying, and drawing without fear, in a calming voiceover while sketching mainly in ink. Most videos have in-video Korean subtitles and many have English CC you can turn on.
해그린달 haegreendal (ko/en/es/po/ch/+) I’ve posted screencaps of 해그린달 before because I enjoy her videos so much. She posts vlogs mainly about her daily life, cleaning, cooking, and taking care of her young child. She does not speak in her videos, communicating through in-video captions. Her videos make you wish for quiet afternoons sitting drinking coffee while watching nature out your window. All of her videos have English CC as well as CC in 10 other languages.
마진스 키친 Mama Jin's Korean Kitchen (ko/en/es/po) Mama Jin is a cook that focuses on specifically Korean recipes. She has videos teaching you to make dishes like tteokbokki, yuk-jeon, and samgyetang. She speaks in Korean in a voiceover and there are CC in English, Spanish, and Portuguese.
채널 김철수 CHANNEL GIMCHEOLSOO (ko/en/es/fr/viet/+) This is a vlog channel made by 김철수 that mainly consists of everyday activities of a gay couple in Korea. These videos all have in-video Korean subs as well as CC in English, Spanish, and many others depending on the video.
Talk To Me In 100% Korean (ko) TTMIK’s new youtube channel entirely in Korean! This channel is for those of you who love TTMIK but are in the intermediate range and need more immersive content. That content consists of conversations on a range of topics from the TTMIK crew. This channel only has Korean CC which you can turn on.
Cooking tree 쿠킹트리 (ko/en/es/fr/viet/+) This is a confectionary channel focused on teaching you how to make all kinds of sweet treats. This channel has the ingredients for each video listed in English and Korean but after that, there are no more in-video subtitles. The creator is also silent in their videos so you must turn on Korean CC. There are CC in many other languages as well but you will not get the benefit of learning Korean as you learn to bake.
왓섭! 공포라디오 (ko) Rightly named “fear radio”, this youtube channel is a collection of scary stories narrated to you with the background of unsettling music and atmospheric sounds. There are in-video subtitles as well as Korean CC for every video.
연합뉴스TV - 자막뉴스 (ko) Yonhap Subtitled News is as it says, subtitled news. This is a news channel that has a collection of videos specifically labelled as subtitled so that people can read the in-video Korean subtitles off the screen as the reporter speaks. They cover various daily news topics. I recommended this account in a previous post but it’s still a great resource!
What are your fave Korean channels! I’d love to know.

Youtube Resources
Here are some channels i follow on youtube for listening practice, culture stuff, or for learning lol i’m always open for recommendations and enjoy watching videos of people doing stuff in the language instead of just teaching it to me
Korean
YTN News- Korean News Channel Edward Avila- I follow him for makeup but he will have people that speak korean on his channel and korean subs (but not on all videos i think) Jumi ơi Hàn Quốc- She is korean learning vietnamese and will speak in korean and have korean subs Beom E 범이-He is korean learning vietnamese and speaks in korean and (i think) has korean subs (i also think he just went in the military so it might be a while for new videos) Prof. Yoon's Korean Language Class - he has reading practice and he teaches grammar MasterTOPIK- pretty self explanatory lol but it’s stuff to help study for the TOPIK 꿀키honeykki- a cooking channel. no talking but korean subs 박막례 할머니 Korea Grandma - not sure how to describe this channel besides it’s just a grandma doing stuff lol i actually made her recipe for the cold noodles and it was good Cooking tree 쿠킹트리-a cooking channel. no talking but korean subs
Japanese
KemushiChan ロレッタ- Probably everyone knows this channel if you’re studying japanese, but loretta lives in japan and talks about life there and more lol. japanese subs and she speaks in japanese often. Watercolor by Shibasaki - this is my favorite channel by far and i recommend everyone watch this even if you aren’t studying japanese (he provides english subs) but this is a kind grandfather that teaches you how to do watercolor. speaks in japanese and also has japanese subs まーるちゃんねる - I watch her for animal crossing content 꿀키honeykki- a cooking channel. no talking but japanese subs Cooking tree 쿠킹트리-a cooking channel. no talking but japanese subs 日本語の森- one of my favorite channels for self studying japanese JunsKitchen- probably another channel most people are familiar with even if you’re not studying japanese, but he lives in japan with his (american?) wife and they have another channel, but i’m not subscribed to it (jun and rachel i think is the name) he speaks a lot of english but has japanese subs. happyknittingmama/ハピママ- if you’re interested in knitting here’s a good channel lol 일본 서예가 다쿠미 - idk why his name is in korean? but he’s a japanese man that does calligraphy and writing Learn Japanese- an older channel (that i’m not sure if it posts now) and i’ll be honest (i didn’t watch many of his videos lamo) but he does have a lot of anime stuff if people are into that 三本塾Sambon Juku - this guy is great, i found out about him because of Loretta, but he teaches you japanese fully in japanese. i think he’s a japanese language teacher in real life as well meetang &co. - if you’re into crochet this channel is great
Chinese (Mandarin)
Evany Carr - this is a new channel i just found (like two days ago) but i really enjoy her content so far. i know she has one video where she’s speaking entirely in chinese, but she has some good learning tips and introduced me to other chinese youtube channels 杰里德Jared- one of the channels Evany recommended, and i have enjoyed what i watched. another new one for me, but it’s a foreigner that has lived in china for 10(?) years and almost all his videos are in mandarin (i think again i haven’t watched all of them lol) Yoyo Chinese-the first chinese youtube channel i followed and then did nothing about that The lady teaches chinese and i like it 李子柒 Liziqi- probably a channel you’re familiar with even if you don’t learn chinese, but this is a girl that basically hand makes, hand cooks everything from scratch. no talking but there are subs (or she writes it on the video itself i don’t remember) Mandarin Corner- Evany recommended this channel and i won’t lie i haven’t watched any of these videos yet but it looks good and this is more of a teaching channel 小高姐的 Magic Ingredients- a cooking channel. she speaks in mandarin and there are chinese subs as well
Vietnamese
Learn Vietnamese with VietnamesePod101.com- here are my friends lol anyways i’ve talked about them before in another post. they have great free resources and i recommend this channel Jumi ơi Hàn Quốc- She is korean learning vietnamese and will speak in vietnamese sometimes and have vietnamese subs Beom E 범이-He is korean learning vietnamese and speaks in vietnamese sometimes and (i think) has vietnamese subs (i also think he just went in the military so it might be a while for new videos) Learn Vietnamese With Annie - if you are studying vietnamese you most likely know this channel, but annie is a teacher that helps you learn the language Learn Vietnamese With SVFF - this channel teaches you vietnamese with the southern accent Tina Yong-i’m including this channel because she did 3 or 4 beauty videos in vietnamese, but she’s not really a language or vietnamese channel. i do really enjoy her videos so went ahead and included her
Sign Language (ASL)
Sign Duo- this is a new channel i follow and i love it. basically it’s two people showing videos of their life while using sign language Sheena McFeely- this is an older channel (and idk if they post anymore) but this was a family that helped teach sign language Bill Vicars-when i was in highschool taking sign language all of my teacher’s teaching material came from him (then i got a deaf teacher and the lesson plan changed but anyways he was basically how i learned sign language)
French
Easy French- They feature a lot of native speakers, and i believe all videos are in french Comme une Française- Geraldine helps teach french
Spanish (Latin America)
De mi Rancho a Tu Cocina- A mexican grandma that teaches you how to cook in spanish
Miscellaneous
NativLang- a lingusitics channel?? idk he talks about different languages and what makes them up and where they originated from and similarities and differences to other languages. i enjoy it 시사북스 - okay this channel is completely in korean (with korean teachers) but they teach a lot of different languages (vietnames, spanish, japanese, english) and i really like it Easy Languages- this channel is nice because they feature native speakers and they offer a lot of languages (polish, russian, etc) and if the language you’re looking for isn’t on this channel, it might have it’s own channel like the french does Language Pod 101- again i highly recommend their youtube channels for whatever language you’re learning.
*I will update this as I find more stuff (always open to suggestions)
**please let me know if the links don’t work
***any corrections, comments, or constructive criticism welcome

DT’s Favorite YT Channels
All right, in order to combat my surly, grouchy mood, I’m forcing myself into a more positive headspace by sharing some of my favorite channels I like to listen to/watch during work or in the evening.
In no particular order...
--
TastingHistory: This is a relatively new channel (only four months old), but one I’m enjoying quite a lot! Max Miller combines making the recipes of yore (both sweet and savory) with succinct history lessons, and so far has covered cuisine from the Romans through to the 1920s. I really enjoy Max’s enthusiasm for his subject matter and his straightforward manner of speech--plus it’s fun to spot the changing plush somewhere behind him on screen. ;) I really want to try that syllabub recipe.
How to Drink: Cocktails, cocktails, cocktails! Greg is not a professional bartender, but he has a range of videos from classic cocktails to drinks of his own making (frequently with a pop culture twist). With classic recipes, Greg will usually discuss some of the history of the drink or primary alcohol (though it’s much more informal than Max’s style), plus explore variations on the mix. He’s obviously having a lot of fun, too! (He also films a couple different videos at a time, so sometimes he starts out a video already a little sloshed...) Some of the historical recipes have given me Ideas for future ficlets to boot.
HidaMari Cooking: This is my favorite ASMR baking channel. I really like because the only sounds are those of the baking: the electric mixer, the spatulas scraping along a bowl, the soft shifting of dry ingredients and the slightly gloopy ‘plop’ of wet ingredients. It basically smacks me in the part of my brain that remembers sitting at the kitchen counter when I was small and watching Mom bake something. This is where I’ve started building a LOT of food porn ideas, plus with how the whole process is shown, it gives me encouragement to try more complicated desserts in the future.
Cooking tree 쿠킹트리: My other favorite ASMR baking channel; this one also doesn’t use sound other than the ones you get from the baking process, though there’s also some music in the intro and outro. High quality food porn and a wide variety of sweets (and different from the HidaMari lineup!). Since this is an ASMR channel, I recommend watching this and HidaMari when you’ve got some spare time so you can sit and do a focused watch. May or may not actually hypnotize you... *coughs*
kiwami japan: I have gone off about this mad scientist before but I’m doing it again but kiwami is insane and I say that with deep, deep respect and admiration. It’s absolutely fascinating watching his knife-making process; the amount of chemistry involved, holy shit. He’s most (in)famous for the ludicrous things from which he makes his knives, but he’s made other things from similarly ridiculous materials, and some of his earlier videos also focus on “sharpening cheap knives into something that could probably cut an atom.”
Bernadette Banner: A little different from my usual food/drink/knife porn, but historical costuming! I do not sew (though I at least know how to repair a rip and fix a button), but I’m really fascinated by clothing and its history, and Bernadette I feel does a really great job at explaining why clothing was tailored the way it was in X period. As with the food porn, I find just watching her stitch fascinating, and it’s incredible to see a design go from draft to pattern to cloth to finished product. Slowly exploring other channels about costuming and clothes via her channel, too.
VeryPink Knits: I have fallen off the knitting wagon and need to drag myself back on, but this is one of my favorite tutorial channels for reminding myself how to do techniques or learn new ones and is generally my first reference stop when I run into a problem or have a question. Staci does a superb job, I feel, of explaining and showing concepts, and as with many things, it’s absolutely hypnotizing watching a practiced knitter and crocheter fly down a row of stitches with her needles or hook. @.@
