since regrettably most of my followers aren’t vietnamese, i’d like y’all to know that the vietnamese language is pretty moderately gendered, most of our honorifics are gendered, so nonbinary vietnamese people have been creating their own gender neutral pronouns like by combining “chị” (girl older than you) and “anh” (dude older than you) into chanh, but chanh is also the word for lemon lol. so for a short while lemons became a symbolic nonbinary thing, but some nonbinary viets were like hmm we don’t like how that pronoun is defined by a gender binary so they created a new pronoun, “cam” which means “orange” like the fruit lmaoo

How to begin learning a language
Tumblr media
Hi! I thought I would make a post to help people out who are just starting out learning a language. Your main goal at this level should just be to make sure that you have a very solid foundation in the language that will support you. You should be able to greet people, reveal information (where you live, your name, your likes/dislikes etc.), know basic verbs and nouns (weekdays, animals, colours etc.) and speak about the present tense.
Learn the alphabet! You can do this using flashcards. Make sure you practice writing the words and memorise the stroke order. For languages like Japanese or Mandarin Chinese that have characters, learn some of the most basic characters and their stroke orders.
Immediately start working on your pronunciation! Watch some pronunciation guide videos, and then start speaking and shadowing. Make sure a video has subtitles in the language, and try to say everything being said in the video (make sure it is beginner friendly - preferably something for learners) right after it is said.
Use an app! Duolingo, Lingodeer, HelloChinese and Memrise are just a couple of incredible ones. I highly recommend them.
Complete an online course or a beginners textbook! There are loads available for free online. Hell, there are loads available on this website. Make sure the approach is vocabulary based, not grammar based, as that will be more useful for you. Also, make sure that audio is available to you.
Start texting natives on apps like Tandem or HelloTalk! This gets very good results, as you can learn new vocabulary being texted to you, along with being able to look up new common greetings and phrases while you are texting.
Memorise basic vocabulary and grammar! Learn the basics of present tense, gender, adjective agreement, word order and some structures, along with a few vocabulary lists of necessary vocabulary (common greetings, animals, colors, family etc.). For grammar, I’d recommend just using a workbook, and for vocabulary, flashcards (particularly anki ones) are very good.
Immerse! Try to listen to and read the language in your dead time, so you can get used to it. Turn the language of your phone to your target language. Read tweets in the language. Watch YouTube videos about fun subjects that you like. If the language you are learning is particularly difficult (like Japanese and Chinese), then try and read and listen to fun learners exercises. Generally just try to get used to the sounds of your target language, and reading the alphabet or familiar characters.
Thanks for reading this post! I hope it was useful to you!

hii here's a quick tip for my friends who speak spanish and are learning portuguese:
having trouble remembering which plural form of -ão a word gets? take the plural of the word in spanish, then take the two vowels next to the n and nasalize the first.
alemo -> alemán -> alemanes -> alemães
pão -> pan -> panes -> pães
ação -> acción -> acciones -> ações
mão -> mano -> manos -> mãos
pagão -> pagano -> paganos -> pagãos
it works the majority of the time, ive only found a handful of words where the plural is different (vilão, vilões, anão, añoes, verão, verões, etc.) but in general this is helpful

unique ways to learn foreign languages
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hi it’s werelivingarts and I’m back with some unique tips on learning foreign languages. I love learning Mandarin and Korean, and my foreign friends absolutely love it when I try to speak with them. ✨
Learning languages is tough but really fun. Remember that you need to set goals, such as by the end of today, I will finish studying the alphabet, not the simple “getting fluent” goal. It’s okay when things you first say are gibberish because you will certainly get better by learning your mistakes.
Here are just some extra weird ways to help you learn:  ● Use region-specfic social media (Weibo for Chinese, Kakao Talk for Korean, Tuenti for Spanish, etc) ● Narrate in other languages as you commute (e.g. the mysterious man who wears brown cap-toe Oxfords just get his cats turn left and is now entering the supermarket) ● Read newspaper and magazine  ● Change your phone language    ● Get help from your native speaker friends  ● Take notes in other languages
P/s: Do you have any useful methods to learn foreign languages? If yes, please share it down here 🤩⬇️

Hi, I saw your tags on my lgbt vocabulary post, I hope this is helpful :)
(I only just realised that I made a mistake in the post, bisexual is 양성애 not 야성애, I’m sorry for the confusion.)
양 兩 this Hanja means two.
두, 둘
e.g - 양손 = both hands, 양쪽(에) = (at) both sides
범 汎 this Hanja means ‘Pan’, and is used as a prefix.
(어떠한 명사(名詞) 앞에 붙어서)널리 전체(全體)에 걸치는의 뜻을 나타내는 말
(Placed before some nouns) Expresses ‘spanning over a wide range’.
Thanks so much!

The vet called and said the lump was cancer and he thinks that's why we had so much trouble with the healing at her incision spot. She was just in today and will go in next Tuesday again for a check up
Here's a bunch of pictures of the girl involved

i just sent in my talking homework to my teacher (it was like a minute long) and i was so nervous and she said that i have good foundation just need confidence and like wow i wasn't 100% wrong? lol
anyways that helped and she said to do it again (but i don't have to send it to her lol) and listen so i can see how much smoother/faster i can speak now that i know it's right/what to say
and update on my dog: so sunday she had gross liquid coming out, then monday her leg was swollen so she went to the vet and he said it was a pus pocket and i shouldn't be too worried _but she had two holes in her arm_ and he said it looks ugly but will be okay. tuesday the swelling was gone and barely any drainage so cool _until a chunk of her skin fell off and it was a giant hole in her leg_. like it was big enough i could stick a finger in ( i did not because just looking at it made me feel a type of way (in a bad way)) so we went back to the vet and he said it was just the rest of the dead skin, nothing bad, so he trimmed any other dead skin he saw and wrapped her up.
it's still wrapped and i think i have to removed it to check on it either tonight or tomorrow and boy and i nervous about doing that because i can't stand looking at it lol.
oh and my dog is totally fine, not acting bothered or in pain at all, and she's on antibiotics to keep away infection which means she gets little bits of yogurt to help her tummy and she loves it lol plus lots of extra attention because i feel guilty she has a giant hole in her arm lol
