Codlands Mudkip

#0258 Codlands Mudkip, the Disgraced Fish Pokemon Ground type These Pokemon could originally be found in the Ocean Empire, where they were a brilliant blue. Somehow, Mudkip ended up populating the Codlands, where they turned into an ugly shade of green and lost their water typing, along with their ability to evolve. Many trainers despise this Pokemon due to it's overabundance in the swamps and believe it to be an invasive and useless animal. Codlands Mudkip hunting was so popular that the Codfather had to ban it to protect the species from extinction. annndd here's the Codlands. I'll be honest, I thought it was very lame just taking away Swampert's water typing. I almost changed the pokemon, but then i got the idea for this. Disgraced Mudkip, mostly because i hate the color scheme i had to use. Next up: Pixandria!!

The Codlands

Race of the population: Mainly Codfolk

Codfolk come from the ocean originally, but migrated out of it due to pressure from other species. They now live amphibiously, with much of their territory being on land while also being able to travel through water easily.

Population size: ~200,000

Alliances: Hoen Yssler, Ocean Empire, Mezalea, Rekhia, Losheedi

Hoen Yssler formed an alliance with the Codlands when the Life dreams affected some of the rulers, including Skott and Jimmie. Neither had any issue with it, despite rarely interacting before.

Lizzie is Jimmie’s half-sister, and because they have a good relationship with each other, they are close allies.

Since Mezalea is so closely allied with the Ocean Empire, it’s natural that the Codlands would be allied with Mezalea as well.

The Codlands are very open to trading with the citizens of Rekhia, and out of respect, Pix secured an alliance with the Codlands.

Losheedi is allied with (almost) everyone.

Political strength: #10

The Codlands, though tight-knit and growing exponentially, are still seen as weak due to their origin. The Codfolk had migrated out of the ocean to seek refuge against discrimination and war, and found themselves in an amphibious country.

Exports: Slime products, algae, clay

Type of government: Direct Democracy

Flag: Two horizontal stripes; top stripe is lime green, bottom is evergreen. A fish is drawn in the center in black and filled in with a pale green.

Climate: Wet and humid above water, calm and lukewarm below water.

Summer: The temperatures get high, and combined with the humidity, many non-Codfolk don't stick around for long.

Fall: The temperatures cool considerably, but there is little wind and lots of humidity. The falling leaves add a lot of debris in the water.

Winter: The temperatures are comfortably low, and the humidity lessens but doesn't go away completely. It never gets cold enough to snow.

Spring: The mangrove trees bloom, making the swamp prone to bugs and debris in the water. It rains a lot, which keeps the temperatures mild.

So I headcanon that in the cod empire they wear masks that are often based on bird or wolf skulls and they decorate them ALOT, specifically with beads, feathers and slime preserved flowers! The masks normally have protection runes carved into them as well!

Jimmy's CodFather head actually along with the protection runes also has runes that connect him with the swamp (like think that if the swamp gets pretty damaged he'll feel it) along with runes that give him night vision and water breathing!!

I honestly don’t know if the term existed, I might’ve just made it up. The reasoning I say that is because I was adopted as an infant to a family from a different kingdom, but then about a month ago my biological family decided to adopt me for… some reason. I haven’t asked why for each of them and I don’t want to know.

Anyways, you’re also the second person outside of my kingdom I’ve talked to! That’s really cool! Also I heard there was a war going on here? What’s that about?

I did the runner-ups from the swap poll too! First posted on my patreon. A couple design notes below the cut!

Originally I planned on converting s1 Gem's purple cloak into the seal skin and going an almost sea witch look, but I ended up moving into a full roseblings selkie au. Just, the allure of traditional selkie lore was too strong.

The strange siblings that wander ashore and while Gem remains closely attached to the sea and magic, fWhip becomes entangled with Mythland and the surface, his seal skin becoming damaged badly enough he cannot truly return to the sea with his sister and so Gem dives further into magical studies hoping to find a way to repair their fraying connection.

Or something like that. I haven't really thought out how they would interact with the Codlands or Ocean Empire.

Everyone stared at the scars on Count Fwhip’s body, the many scars across his chest and back now fully exposed by the way his shirt and jacket had become tattered in the explosion. He knelt near the center of the explosion site, still having attempted to defuse the device in order to allow others to escape.

Fwhip’s arms came up to try to block the view of his chest, but between his chest and back both being on display, there was nothing he could do to hide his body completely from sight.

He heard the sound of footsteps approaching him and he curled up even tighter, trying to hide from whoever was approaching.

He heard no words following the footsteps stopping in front of him, though he could tell that the figure had crouched down and was doing something.

Fwhip felt cloth fall over his shoulders, covering his body from the gaze of onlookers.

When he glanced up, he was shocked to find Jimmy crouched in front of him. Upon further inspection, the Codfather had given Fwhip his cloak. That was not something to be done lightly. Not in Oceanic cultures. Especially not when done by the ruler of the Codlands.

A Selkie’s coat was their life. To give his to Fwhip, to hide the scars that were so clearly on display, that meant something. Fwhip didn’t know exactly what, but it was something.

Fwhip finally let himself cry, feeling the exposure, the vulnerability of his lack of clothing so keenly now that he was safe from view. Jimmy hid even that from onlookers, pulling Fwhip close and letting the other man hide his tears against Jimmy’s chest or neck.

“I’ve got you. You’re safe.”

Fwhip, against all odds, believed him.

In my mind Mythland is a bit of a cross between how I imagine the Undergrove and Helanthia's food sources. Like the Undergrove is very focused on hunting and foraging in the woods, whereas Helanthia is crop-focused, and I imagine Mythland having a mix of both (because it's in a dark oak forest but also has extensive crop fields).

Also, I think I generally associate Mythland with medieval Europe which is closely related with wheat and so I see that as their main crop, whereas Helathia I have an association with farming and crops from the Americas (corn, beans, gourds, etc)

Anyway, that's my 2 cents.

(Oh, and I feel like there's a good argument for the Lost Empire growing corn if you look at the cultures it's based on but I'm not gonna get into that.)

So like…there are potatoes and cacao in empires because there are potatoes and cacao in minecraft which means that clearly trade has been established with the americas they have a mixture of european and american crops.

So its plausible that at least one empire grows corn as a staple crop.

Anyway, how is everyone else’s night going?

Anyways I don't think the flower husbands would have a ring bearing ceremony, I think tying the knot just fits them more. Engagement rings? Sure, but they aren't that important to them.

this is due to the fact that any injuries in the swamp are more likely to be infected so they put a lot of research into it!!

…but they’re not very good with medicine outside of fish people so they don’t seem too advanced to any empire besides the Ocean Empire.
