Surgery is at 9:45 (finally, thank the heavens cause I'm going insane here at how bad hospital communication is) so! Pen doodles before I'm drugged up on anesthesia.
OCs of mine as a comfort in my suffering (and it's easier in pen bc they're boring designs unlike fanart I'd want to draw).

i'm not able to eat most things right now due to dental work, so naturally that's when my dash has lots of pics of very yummy looking food, most of which is either crunchy or sticky or spicy or extreme temperatures (all of which are things i'm explicitly banned from for at least the next few days and possibly longer)

So the surgery is on Monday (October 2) and that means I’m on the clear liquid diet until midnight of October 1st (night before the surgery). I’m trying to fill my stomach with jello and chicken broth and I feel good. I didn’t start feeling hungry until around 1 pm and by 3 when I went to the store after the office I was just hungry enough to start making smart ass remarks on the drive over.
I tried (beef) bone broth, and disappointingly I did not like it so I gave it to the dogs mixed with their kibble. I’ll give it another shot but maybe after the surgery and with my moms bone broth, not store bought. I’ve caught myself three times throughout today thinking of snacking on something “light” but they felt more like impuse thoughts than tortured rants only I can hear. We’ll see about the weekend though.
They might have to reschedule the surgery, because I have two insurances and apparently when they tried adding the secondary insurance, my primary one needs a new claim or something like it wasn’t being taken. They put a rush/urgent order on the new claim but I’m willing to pay extra to get this surgery done. I’m looking forward to being able to redo my relationship with food. To have it be a friend instead of a confidant/jailer. I’d have to spend the night in the hospital but other than that it should be a minimally invasive surgery. Still quite serious, there’s a risk of death or life long side effects, but I feel confident in my surgeons abilities and the team at the hospital.

In the splatoon fanbase, there are many misconceptions surrounding the relationship between inklings and water. without fail whenever I mention something related to the topic I'll get replies of "actually the canon is [some popular but incorrect theory]" "no they can do this and this canonically [it's actually a headcanon]" "no its really [something NOA made up]"
so to briefly go over The Facts:
Inklings canonically die when submerged in water. And yes, getting "splatted" is them dying for real, respawning is also an in-universe thing that has existed for at least 2000 years and not just a game mechanic. While the dying in water thing originally came from a game mechanic, it has been repeatedly stated that they incorporated this into the inkling's biology. The water weakness is not because of the water itself being toxic. The reason is based in osmosis. in the process of their evolution, Inklings (and octolings) changed a lot, and one of these changes was the ability to transform between a humanoid and swim form. Doing this transformation requires skin that is a thin, semi permeable membrane [this kind of skin is a trait found in real life molluscs]. The evolutionary trade off is that, because of how semi permeable their skin is, the ink inside of their bodies will bleed out when in contact with another liquid. This is the answer given directly by the series' creator. And here it is confirmed that while the water weakness originated from game mechanics, it is very much became a part of an inkling's in-universe biology. Kind of like how a slug will die if you sprinkle salt on it (for a reason that's almost the same as the inklings), but ultimately needs salt in its diet through the food it eats to live, inklings do drink water and other liquids. Its also not like they touch water and immediately explode, it seems they can wash their hands in it and dip their feet in it and be fine.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Some people think the water weakness is stupid, personally i think its reasonable because Inkling biology is already weird as hell and of how ridiculously advantageous it is to be an ink-based cephalopod. the ink gives them the ability to jump absurdly long distances and cheat death to an extent. they're not losing much by not being able to dunk themselves in water. Anyway point is it sucks that all the relevant canon information on this is one of those japan only things/exclusive to developer interviews and pretty much every time it's brought up in English the localizers make shit up. I plan to make a video about this one of these days, but with how 'controversial' the topic is, and how many little details and connected concepts there are, I've been holding it off because I want to do it right. there's also some specific details that are unclear that I've been hoping would be clarified in the artbook or a dev interview but haven't, I might just have to go for it at this point. for the time being, i hope this post helps clear up a few things!

Food Consistency
My wife (who has gastroparesis and frequently needs to go on liquid diets) was watching some tiktoks about people on liquid diets.
People in both the videos and the comments had extremely different (and often startlingly wrong) ideas of what a liquid diet is.
So I figured I would do a post to clarify for anyone who might be confused, and maybe save you from having a surgery rescheduled due to eating the wrong things.
Clear Liquid Diet:
A clear liquid diet is a diet where ONLY liquids you can see through are permitted. That means no other solid food (that won't turn into a clear liquid in your stomach), no chunks, and no milk. If you're prepping for a surgery or colonoscopy there might also be limits on what food colorings are permitted as well (usually red and purple). A clear liquid diet includes:
Water
Flavored drinks (sports drinks, soft drinks, Kool Aid, etc...)
Broth/stock (vegetable, chicken, beef, etc...)
Popsicles/italian ice
Fruit juices (no pulp)
Gelatin
Coffee/Tea
Specialty clear liquid protein shakes
Full Liquid Diet:
A full liquid diet is a diet where ONLY clear liquids and cloudy/opaque "full" liquids are consumed. No other solid foods and no chunks are permitted. A full liquid diet includes:
Everything on the clear liquid list
Milk and milkshakes
Yogurt (no chunks)
Ice cream (no chunks)
Pudding
Custard
Blended Diet:
A blended diet is a regular diet in which the food has been blended with water. Usually, this is the consistency necessary for a gastric feeding tube.
Everything on the full liquid list
Smoothies
Blended soups (no chunks)
Applesauce
Literally anything as long as it's been put in a blender and is now liquid-y
Pureed Diet:
A pureed diet is a diet in which the food has been mashed into a very fine mash. It can be thicker and drier than a blended diet and the food can be "molded" into shapes that resemble the original food on a plate. This is good for people who have few to no teeth or pain with chewing.
Everything on the blended list
Mashed potatoes (no chunks)
Anything the consistency of mashed potatoes
Mechanical Soft Diet:
A mechanical soft diet is one that is easy to chew. Unlike pureed, there can be small chunks. Examples include:
Everything on the pureed list
Oatmeal/cream of wheat/cream of rice
Very well cooked vegetables
Ground and finely chopped meats
Poached or soft boiled eggs
Cottage cheese

so a lil bout me if anyone wants to be moots: (i also have a backup in case i lose this acct, it’s the same username but the “e” in lethal is 3)
you 1,000% do not need to read all of this, however i truly think it is super helpful considering i was raised by a dietitian.
im pro-recovery JUST BY CHOICE NOT FORCE. so PLS JUST BLOCK DONT REPORT. we all have backups and backups for our backups. so it’s pointless. you’re breaking up a community where we get support. so fvck u if u report.
my “rexie tips n tricks” losing weight healthily yada yada yada is below the cut if you’re interested!
cw: 180lxs 81kg (i know it got out of hand 🥲)
gw: 130lxs 58kg (doing everything i can to get here by christmas)
ugw: not sure, just wanna see my b0nes. maybe 111lxs (50kg)? (gimme that angel number baybeee)
lw: 145lxs 65kg
so basically, if you do these things i can guarantee you 100% will lose weight. if you’ve plateaued, if you’re just starting out, if you’re trying to take it slow after relapsing, even if you’re petite and need a metab boost to start loosing lxs again, i’m not saying it’s good to be apart of this community but im along this ride w ya so. here u go.
1. keep your e@ting window as small as possible aka eat to live don’t live to eat (the r3xie motto 🤪). i’m f@sting minimum 16:8 and i try to extend that. but major thing is don’t beat yourself up if you can’t make it 16hrs and be happy the days you can make it longer!! esp if your just starting out.
2. stay low c@l. i’m trying my best to stay under 500 c@l/day. and consume that how it works for you. if five 100 c@l snacks over 8 hrs work best some days that’s ok. if OMAD works best, great! my mom is a dietitian and i promise, eating a little of each food group (dairy, carb ik scary, protein, veg & fruit) will help your metab which in the long run will help you l0se more weight. sometimes just having one protein bar mid day works 4 me. others i need a full meal. fuel your body or you will burn muscle which leads to organ damage.
3. don’t do LONG term fasts. i’d say up to a week with heavy liquids is okay. and not just water, incorporate broths, mio, even sugar free jello is good (if it’s clear typically it’s ok) but long term fasts can lower your metabolism, deplete electrolytes, and sodium, which long term is going to bloat you, keep weight on (or make you gain it back quickly), and overall make you feel like shit (which could lead to hospitalization)
4. don’t eat refined sugar or refined foods. do literally AS MUCH AS YOU CAN to eat sugar free and whole foods. i have a major sweet tooth so i turn to sugar free jello/pudding, sf caramels, halo top ice cream if i REALLY need it. otherwise i do sweet fruits and veggie based substitutions for carbs. i use cauliflower rice, zucchini noodles, or there’s these great hearts of palm noodles.
5. eat tons of fiber!! laxatives will help momentarily, consistent fiber will keep your 💩 regular thus keeping your body from holding onto it aka extra lxs. i add unflavored benefiber to a lot of my drinks (the flavored ones have added sugar). i honestly could promise you that fiber will help with shedding !bs.
6. drink as much water as you possibly can. yes you can become over-hydrated so add electrolytes or legit just a lil salt to your water here n there. but your body is going to retain water (!bs), and bloat if you are dehydrated. #1 thing to remember is you are depleting your body of what it wants. finding a way to basically trick it makes it easier and quicker to lose fat.
7. stay distracted! discipline and hunger may hurt now, regret and guilt are going to hurt 50x worse later. a grumbly tummy is not worth it. get some motivational phrases, tactics, distractions, that work for you and RELY ON THEM. water, i use mio in mine when i’m desperate, gum, diet soda, bubbly water, reading, tv, ANYTHING. i have other reblogs with some good motivational tactics. i also look at th!nspø as well as pics of my own body multiple times per day to keep me on track. YOU ARE NOT ALWAYS GOING TO BE MOTIVATED SO YOU MUST BE DISCIPLINED. i repeat that to myself 100000 times a day.
8. incorporate foods/drinks that speed up your metab. coffee, green tea, spicy foods (pepper, cayenne pepper), cinnamon, B12 there’s sooo many. and this goes hand in hand with making sure you’re getting your vitamins. picking up a general multivitamin will help make it so your body doesn’t want to cling onto every last cal it’s fed.
9. exercise if you are mentally & physically able to. i have some other limiting factors which make me unable to go to the gym or get as many steps in as id like. an avg day is 2k-5k steps for me rotting on the couch. i PROMISE like 100% money back guarantee (srry bad joke i swear im not a damn ana coach 🙄) your diet is 1,000,000x more important than any exercise you’re going to get in. exercise will help with toning so i try to get some laying ones done on the couch but dude you burn calories just existing. so if you eat lower than that which is 1k-2k (you can look it up it’s your TDEE) you will lose weight. it may be slightly slower than if you walked 20k steps/day or worked out 5 hrs every day but give it time.
literal str8 up proof of this^^^ is my father. he’s a gym junkie like going every morning at 4am (insanity but not my kind), but was eating a lot, and garbage. high carb and sugar intake. and even though he was working out A TON with a lot of steps/day he was gaining fat. he came to me and i told him str8 up to eat less and stop treating his body like a dumpster. eat healthier. homie is shedding lxs.
so besides all that, if you wanna be moots ill probs just vent and post th!nspø
SORRY IM A CERTIFIED YAPPER

My mom is a nurse so I like to occasionally hit her up when I'm working on a fic and say something like "hypothetically if you had a patient..."
Anyway she's just given me the Adam Stanheight Post-Trap Care Plan
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Text under Read More
[Transcript: text conversation with 'Mom'
Sender: If you had a patient whod been deprived of food for like 5 days, what would their treatment look like? I'm assuming all fluid diet at first
Mom: Probably fluids. Clear liquid advance as tolerated. Which means we would make sure he could swallow and then if he does good with fluids give him soft and if that's ok then go to whatever. If he couldn't swallow easily or chew well due to soreness or injuries or what have you, stay with soft. If they get choked we would do thick liquid and if they couldn't do that, only iv fluids and be npo. Nothing by mouth
Sender: Okay! Yeah he was basically locked in a room for five days lol so I was trying to figure out how arduous the healing process would be (aside from the mental trauma obviously) He was injured but nothing vital, he was shot in the shoulder so I mean blood loss but no organ damage or anything.
I was reading that apparently it can lead to your electrolytes getting out of whack? Something about phosphorus deficiency?
(although I suppose given the whole kidnapping thing there's definitely a chance his wound might've gotten infected but Ive already done lots of reading about bullet wound infections haha)
Mom: Is he in the er?
Sender: That's probably where the police would take him when he was found, right?
Mom: Yep. He would be getting a lot of fluids. And antibiotics probably two kinds. Tetanus shot.
Temperature control with warm fluids and warm blankets and warm room temp. Catheter for monitoring input and output. All the monitors: cardiac, oxygen saturation, blood pressure every 15 mins for 2 hours. Chest X-ray and all the labs. Probably his potassium would be high because he's dehydrated which would make him have shortness of breath chest pain dizziness...plus his mouth is probably dry and stuck to his teeth and stuff. That's the way people look when they are "found down" after some days. Covered in their urine and or poop. With low temps. Septic.
Low blood pressure. Weak as hell. From the wound infection.
This is fun for me I guess it's obvious (laughing while crying emoji)
Might even have to give vasopressors to make his blood pressure come up. If your bp is low, you aren't getting any blood to your organs.
And/or oxygen
But if he's just hungry and weak, you can actually make it without food. If you have water. But you need good calories to heal wounds. So I'm going drastic. ]

This will probably be more of a gasteoparesis-related question than a feeding tube one, my bad, but how did you know it was time for a tube? What was it like in the lead-up to that point, assuming it wasn't sudden? How did it get on your radar, or your doctors' radars?
That’s okay! It’s still relevant for Feeding Tube Awareness Week and honestly I’ll always take the opportunity to talk about gastroparesis or feeding tubes
It wasn’t sudden, but it also was like a stone rolling downhill, where it picks up speed to the point where you can’t get ahead of it.
I always had gastric issues with vomiting being predominant, but was misdiagnosed for a long time before being correctly diagnosed with gastroparesis.
I had a flare start up in Aug 2022 that lasted til early Nov 2022 when I was finally diagnosed with gastroparesis during a hospitalization.
I immediately started the gastroparesis diet and Reglan in multiple forms, which failed. Then I tried erythromycin, which also failed, and then I got covid and I stopped being able to tolerate liquid food at the beginning of December 2022. I could not hold down any food, even something as simple as ensure clear and had no nutrition from the beginning of December until I started feeding through my tube in the beginning of January 2023. In total I was in a calorie deficit for about 5 months.
I worked with a dietitian who was familiar with gastroparesis, a gastroenterologist PA and overseeing MD that all agreed to move to a feeding tube, but the bureaucracy of insurance and waiting for my order to move through the system as an outpatient procedure around Xmas caused me to get critically ill and I was hospitalized with starvation ketoacidosis, and my tube was placed two days later. (Long time mutual remember) it was so bad I went into starvation ketoacidosis.
In between all of this were many ER visits and hospitalizations, all of this long winded story is to say that it should NOT get this far. You should have nutritional interventions way before this point.
Unfortunately I hear a lot of stories like this in the gastroparesis community, or others where they are barred from getting a tube because they’re not “bad enough” or they aren’t under a certain BMI/weight so I like to share my story and give out this resource:
American College of Gastroenterology 2022 Clinical Guideline for Gastroparesis
And specifically this treatment algorithm to present to your doctor
Tumblr media
To discuss treatment options if you think you’re at a point where you need nutrition support.
Other sources say a weight loss of over 5-10% of your weight involuntarily in the last 6 months and an inability to orally maintain nutrition in combination with the above.
TL;DR I tried multiple forms of treatment with a combination of medications and followed the pictured algorithm above all the way to the bottom but then I got really really sick and almost died
Advocate for yourself Happy Feeding Tube Awareness Week!

I also realize I'm only cleared from work until Monday. Idk how I'm gonna be able to physically do my job on a liquid diet bc I already know when I skip food bc of illness I can't even think let alone drive to work and be physically active until I'm done 🤔
Why do doctors not understand when I say "i work in a kitchen" that it means I am moving every second of every moment I am there and that I need to be able to lift and run and walk and reach

Fictober #25, It Consumes Me
Tumblr media
Prompt: It Consumes Me
Fandom: Endeavour
Pairing: Gen
Fred has had bagmen before, and he’s even still in contact with most of them, although he never got as close to them as some of his colleagues used to do to theirs.
As a matter of fact, he used to rather wonder how someone could claim a colleague could mean as much to them as their own flesh and blood, but not anymore. Morse has wormed his way under his skin in a way very few people ever have, and he doesn’t think he’ll manager to change that.
That doesn’t have to mean he has to look after him the way he does after his children, of course. As a matter of fact, Morse is an adult and should be able to look after himself, only that he isn’t because… well, it’s Morse.
And especially in moments like this, when he has just found him yet again pouring over the current case file in the middle of the night when everyone else has gone home…
He clears his throat and Morse looks up, blinks, needs a moment to realize who he’s looking at, and he immediately feels concerned. He’s seen coppers like this, and it almost never ends well. Let them go without sleep, without food, without anyone caring what they get up to, and it becomes a habit, and in the end, they’re staring down a  lonely retirement at best, if they haven’t run themselves ragged in the meantime, and he doesn’t want that for him.
And so, he steps up to him and clears his throat. “And, lad, found anything?”
IT’s the wrong thing to say, because Morse looks away and starts mumbling in the way that he tends to when he’s stuck, and it’s usually excuses when he doesn’t need to make any. He’s been trying to break him out of that habit, too, but so far no luck.
“I know we’re stuck, but I think you should take a moment to breathe” he then says firmly, feeling a little bit out of his depth because this is certainly not a problem he ever had before. With the kiddies, it was more a problem to get them to study at all, and when it comes to his other partners... well.. Mickey Carter was a little bit like that, but that just adds to his worries. The last thing he needs is another bagman in a body bag.
“I – I know that, sir, it’s just that someone ought to have found something by now, and…”
“And that someone has to be you, has it?”
And he seems to have hit the nail on the head because Morse starts going through the file again and he is rather seriously tempted to slap it out of his hands.
"it consumes me" he then says ´, firmly but quietly, and it’s exactly the sort of thing he would expect from morse because it would sound out of place coming from anyone else, and he means anyone else but, with him, he understands, or at least likes to think he does.
Maybe just because he’s had a few of these cases himself, over the years.
So he says, “That’s what I mean, lad. You can’t let it. That’s not good for you, in the long run.”
He looks at him and shrugs in a way that suggests no one has cared for a long time what’s good for him, and Fred finds himself wondering about that father of his he mentioned once, off-handedly, sadly not following it up with any important information.
“Look, why don’t we go down to the pub?” after thinking about it for a moment eh added “Grab a bite to eat” because Morse might think differently and instead just go for  a liquid diet, as has become all too usual, these days.
It looks like he wants to argue, but thankfully doesn’t, so Fred gets him down to the pub without any problems. He could have asked Jakes to come along, they’ve been growing more cordial, but thinks they should probably keep this between them, for now.
And so, here they are, Morse staring down at the table, and he spontaneously passes him his sandwich because God knows he needs some meat on these bones. “Here:”
He blinks up at him. “But sir – “
“No but. You need something to eat.”
As he carefully unwraps it, eh has another idea. “Why don’t you come to dinner tonight. Win will be glad to see you.”
“I – I sir, I couldn’t possibly – “
“Nonsense.” He interrupts him because sometimes that’s all that helps when it comes to morse. You just have to tell him how things are and hope he accepts, and even if he didn’t, this time around, Fred would make sure he still accompanied him.
Thankfully, he stops arguing and he relaxes, if only slightly.
There’s no reason to see another bagman go to the dogs because Fred didn’t pay attention.

hi! when I get depressed it's really hard to make sure I'm eating as much as I should so here are some things I eat when I don't have the energy to do shit
these are depression meals so they are in no way balanced and an ideal diet, this is to get you through it. if you have depression, some of these on your shopping list are a good idea. I update this list whenever I remember something
I'm also assuming the only equipment you have is a bowl, spoon, sink, microwave and at most, a can opener. in no particular order:
granola bars and adjacent things like nuts, dried fruit, etc
frozen sausages: break them in half and microwave, if they're too cold to break you can run them under hot water or leave them out for a couple minutes, you need the break them or they might explode
canned corn: open and eat with a spoon, you can strain and microwave if you want it hot
cheese: put it in a bowl and microwave till it melts or till it's crispy, your choice but if you do just cheese don't use a porous bowl
instant noodles: don't use a pan, use a bowl, empty the contents in the bowl, add water till at least half of the noodle thing is submerged, microwave for 2-4 minutes, mix and eat
regular noodles: use a bigger bowl than you normally would, add some dry pasta to it and enough water to cover the pasta but not much more, it might overflow, and microwave for a few minutes more than the package says to boil, drain the water and put in whatever, condiment, sauce, cheese, sausages, frozen veggies, and microwave again, it's more time intensive but also more nutrients so
canned beans: you can eat as is if it comes in a sauce, but if you got the ones with the clear liquid you can strain and rinse and if you don't have a strainer, open the can just a little from the tab and open a faucet, let the water run into the can and adjust the position of the lid till the water can go in without any of the beans coming out, it'll dissolve the liquid and it'll flow out, leave it for a bit then shake it, turn it upside to drain, let it refill then leave it again, repeat till the water over flowing isn't that weird liquid
crackers/biscuits: keep a stash of biscuits that you can eat, bonus if you can eat them with milk or tea or coffee or juice
juice: buy your favorite and keep a bottle in the fridge or frozen if you suspect you're starting to spiral and might need it in a few hours
readymade meals: whenever you go to do your grocery shopping, buy just one premade meal
vegetables: keep a vegetable you like that you can eat raw like cucumbers or carrots
fruits: keep a fruit you know you can eat or you know you can drown in something else, for example I don't like apples but I can eat them if they're covered in peanut butter
sweets: you can keep a favorite hard candy to get yourself salivating idk for me if helps activate some hunger while getting rid of the painful part of being hungry
butters and spreads: you can find premade sandwich spread with chicken in them, or jams or spreads that are savory like peanut/almond/cashew butter or sweet like a chocolate/vanilla spread
rice: if you make rice and ever have some left over you can freeze it and eat it later, you can also do that with rice in a bag
tofu: you can eat it raw as long as you drain the liquid it comes with
condiments: almost all of these things can be improved or 'seasoned' with ketchup, mayo, mustard, ranch, tartar sauce, marinara, etc. it'll give some flavor and make it taste better but don't microwave sauces unless they're properly mixed with the food especially mayo based ones, they can get weird
frozen vegetables: any time you're using the microwave to make these things, throw in a handful of frozen vegetables and microwave for a little longer
cereal: pair cereal with foods like yogurt instead of milk, you can add chocolate drink powder to the yogurt before adding the cereal which is really nice, you can also make it directly in the yogurt container if it's small enough
electrolytes: you can make them a bottle using two dashes of salt (1/4 tsp), a 2second squeeze of a honey bottle (2 tsp) and some kind of juice for a better flavor
potatoes: stab them all around with a fork, microwave for about six minutes, turn it over then microwave again, keeping microwaving and turning till it's soft on the inside and you can eat it
order out: if you can afford to order food, order it, some tips to get the most out of what you order 1. order a family box of food to store in the fridge 2. when you microwave it, do it with some water in a glass with your bowl/food in the microwave
if opening the tab on a can is keeping you from eating, try this. it'll open the can, you can use a knife, the back of a spoon, etc.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tumblr media
if it keeps you from spiraling, it's worth doing. and if it's worth doing, it's worth doing poorly. eating something is better than eating nothing.
hope this helps, if you can, please add more things!

Tumblr media
staple desert culture cuisine
ensthirs originate in desert regions of their planet, and over thousands of years have cultivated a wide selection of foods and treats that are both easily available in their environment, and are a delight to consume.
(long post)
Tumblr media
Bahn juice
Bahn is a common fruit, it's large, watery and appetizing but protected by their thick shell, something like a combination of a coconut and watermelon. The flesh inside lines the shell in sections, and the hollow cavity in the middle is filled with a cold, sweet juice, which can be mixed with many other ingredients but can be served fresh and is often drank straight from the shell. It appears clear and green when still, but gains a thick white froth when shaken. The taste is comparable to earth sugar cane juice.
Tumblr media
Bahn meat (in kebab form, for this presentation)
Despite all appearances, and the name, this meat is not from an animal but from the aforementioned bahn fruit. The sections of this fruit are eaten in many ways, but it's still delectable plain and fresh. The texture and flavour is closest to mangosteens - very soft, very juicy, and very sweet in its own unique way. It's a flavour you wouldn't want to forget.
Tumblr media
Ce Bread
Ce (chee) is a hardy grain, purple in colour, that withstand any environmental challenge thrown at it and can proliferate throughout both wet and dry seasons. Plain ce lacks a distict strong flavour, meaning it pairs well with other foods, placing it as a staple in most diets. It is the ensthirs equivalent of rice or wheat. Ground dry ce can be mixed with liquids and then baked, like this bread, but it can be cooked in many other ways which drastically change its composition and flavour.
Tumblr media
Ce cookies
Another use of ce, these cookies are a common tradition that mean more than just a sweet treat. Ce cookies must be crafted together by family members, often between parent and child or siblings, it is a way to strengthen bonds. This can be to show forgiveness, express love and loyalty, or simply be a fun experience before dinner. Before being baked, a pattern, symbol or shape is carved into the top, such as these sun designs which are believed to bring good luck. Ce cookies are a popular choice of offering at religious events, or simply as a gift for new neighbours.
Tumblr media
Sticky ce bun
Slightly sweeter than che cookies, ce buns are an extra special treat, but are not generally reserved for any noteworthy occassions. Ce buns are made with very few ingredients: ce flour and water are used for the bun itself, and the stuffing is ce that has been boiled then cut up and mixed with a liquid similar to syrup or honey. When boiled, ce expands three times its original size and becomes soft and chewy, a consistency and texture similar to tapioca pearls used for boba. As a final step, the filled bun is wrapped in bahn leaves and steamed, which gives it the sticky affect and enhances the flavour.
Tumblr media
Soup..
Ensthir soups can be made of just about anything, the range is incredible, but this one seems to have a broth of some bright purple plant, with an addition of various roots and tubers to finish it off. The serving dish of choice is a clay pot decorated with easily accessible paints and dyes, making a simple dot and sun pattern.

Lizard tail
Obviously not from an actual lizard, but close enough. Like most animals that share a planet with ensthirs, this creature used their tail as an extra fat storage, making it a better alternative to eating more meat and getting the same amount of fat. This tail has been cooked, but this is usually only for longetivity as ensthirs still possess the necessary enzymes for properly digesting raw meat (without contracting some mysterious disease.. most of the time).

Jerky
A common meal staple in the dry season when food is less readily available, slices of meat are salted and dried then put into storage until they are needed. Meat jerky is not widely disliked, but it is also not loved by many and doesn't have an important role in ensthir culture other than survival.

Dried berries
The vegan alternative to meat jerky, berries are also dried and stored until dry season but are used as more of a snack or side serving than the main course. Certain berries may turn out to be sweet or sour when aged, or perhaps earthy or downright bad, so an ensthir must choose their tiny fruits carefully when foraging. Families pass down knowledge of what the tastiest berries look like, and young ensthirs will make a challenge to find the best ones first when wet season comes to a close and stores must be stocked up.
would u eat any?!?!

Home Nursing Advice Column #1: Convalescent "Sick" Foods
Sick food comes down to calories and nutrients. The more the better.
Since sick people may not want to eat, packing as many calories as possible in as few bites as possible is essential.
You also want to start easy and move your way up to more complex foods. Consider this:
Clear liquids: Broths (have electrolytes), bone broths (have protein and electrolytes), full sugar gelatin (has carbohydrates and protein), full sugar popsicles (have carbohydrates), broths with added butter or oil (has electrolytes and fats).
Then move up to full liquids with fat: Whole milk (with added cream or half n half if you really need to pack in the calories- contains fat, electrolytes, carbs, and protein), chocolate milk (fat, more carbs, and protein), strained or blended cream soups (fat, carbs, electrolytes, and protein depending on ingredients), non-chunky ice creams/milkshakes, yogurt, milk alternatives with added oils, protein shakes.
Then move up to a high calorie soft regular diet: scrambled eggs with cheese, mashed potatoes with gravy, gravy and sauces on everything, cream cheese in/on everything, well cooked vegetables with butter or oil.
The goal is high calorie, because being sick takes a LOT of energy, and often leads people to eat lower quantities of food than they normally would.
This advice goes even for people who are overweight, diabetic, or generally sedentary. People need calories for healing!
