Ciel does not exist. He’s a mask for one boy and a ghost for another. After he was murdered R!Ciel had no identity, and O!Ciel’s never mattered in the first place. They are pieces orbiting the concept of ‘Ciel,’ the Thing that exists in the mind of everyone who loves them but doesn’t actually exist at all. Sebastian ate and will eat Ciel’s soul, but does it matter whose playing what role?

He’s a character the two actors are trying to be, one a cursed understudy and the other a fallen star. Neither of them are him, not entirely, because as soon as he became nothing but a role, he ceased to be human. In the eyes of those around him, in the eyes of his company and in the eyes of his land it truly doesn’t matter whose the fraud and whose legitimate, because Ciel is Ciel

When O!Ciel reclaims his identity, he’ll just play that role again. Ciel, unified Ciel, will come back into existence and Sebastian will devour him and it will be like they were never apart. He’ll play that role until he dies, unless he somehow manages to break out of it. Oh, why can’t they both realize, their enemy is not each other. It’s the goddamn theater.
