Cringetober Day 5: Gijinka

You'd think this prompt would be easy for me, considering 90% of what I draw nowadays are gijinkas, but I wanted to do something special and unique for cringetober. That's why I decided to draw the pound puppies (2010) as people.

They exist in the same universe (and city) as my LPS humanizations. They are a secret organization that helps either children or puppies find their homes (I haven't decided yet). Also the MLP magical girls are also in this universe (idk if anyone remembers them). Hasbro animal show cinematic universe.

🐺 I'm a Holotherian [aka. holotheric therian]. I used to be just a therian, but recently have discovered that despite being human biologically, I identify in all aspects as a wolf. Holothere was a descriptor that fit that best and so I combined it with Therian, shortening to use holotherian personally. 🌱 I used to go by Drífa but now I go by Lethal.

🐺 I discovered I was a wolf at a very young age but didn't discover/awaken to therianthropy until 2010.

🌱 I'm a practicing, eclectic Witch. I study and actively practice witchcraft with heavy influences from Celtic Shamanism, Norse Heathenry, Shintoism, and Animism. I follow Nature, the Moon Cycles, and the Seasons. 🐺 I believe in all aspects that I am a wolf although I acknowledge that I am biologically human; I just don't identify as human.

A thing I really love about Lost Boys lore is how hellhhounds aren't vampire ennemies but their protector. I was born in the 2000s, as such, I grew up with vampire medias from the 2010s where werewolf (and canine in generals) are their ennemies.

So, to me, it felt fresh. Seeing dogs being guardians to their vampire felt like a very fresh and novel concept in the genre to me (despite the movie being from '87 ^^').

Though, it makes me wonder... who is the lost boys's guardian ? Micheal and Sam have Nanook, Max has Thorn and them... ? Is it Thorn too and it's just the equivalent of teenagers sleeping anywhere but at their house ? Or is there a chihuahua or something hiding in their lair who really failed at its job since Marko died ?

"Miss Dolly"

Pound Puppies 2010 is completely free to watch on Tubi. So I'm having a good time. This show always impressed me in how it played with 'dog-movie' archetypes; Cookie gets to be a leading girl while also being a boxer; Squirt is a little tough city-mook and always wants to get in fights; and Miss Dolly is a prissy poodle but ALSO head of the Pound Puppies and a good person.

I really appreciate it as a doglover! Boxers are beautiful, chihuahuas are little fiesty power-houses and poodles are genuinely great, smart dogs (they were bred for hunting. Also they're not french they're german).

Some dog movie observations:

The 1990s to like 2010 seems to be the golden age of dog movies. We got Beethoven (1992), Homeward Bound (1993), Air Bud (1997), 101 Dalmatians (1996), Snow Dogs (2002), Because of Winn Dixie (2005), Hotel for Dogs (2009), Beverly Hills Chihuahua (2008) to name a few that I enjoyed. There is also a slew of B-rate movies that while not as good, still have some charm. I will say I think it helps that cgi wasn’t heavily used in movies until the later 2000s and 2010s, and it is my humble opinion that too much cgi ruins the movies. The more tricks the dog actually does on camera, the better. Bonus points if clever camera shots and practical effects are used instead of cgi.

Anything before the 80s? Questionable animal ethics. (The Animal welfare act was passed in 1966, so really anything before then is… wild.)

Now. As we travel into the 2010s-2020s, we see an uptick in copaganda. (Max, Dog, Rescued by Ruby, and a Dogs Journey are some recent ones). We also see an uptick of Really Bad Movies (think like a dog-BAD. Lady and the tramp? WORSE.) we also see a lot of strange indie films about dogs (white god was….. weird.) this is also when the “air buddies” took off to be their own thing, which has turned into an entire studio that makes Bad Dog Movies (and also shows! Pup academy, phantom pups, and one other one on Netflix. They are Bad)

There are also several with like 100 remakes (lassie, benji, where the red fern grows, like 200 different white fangs smh) so I’m not super sure how I’m going to tackle those….

The most popular dog breeds in these movies are probably goldens, labs, German shepherds, Great Danes (! At least 3 so far; marmaduke, the ugly Dachshund, and Chestnut hero of Central Park), old English sheepdogs (! Surprising but there was a few!) and beagles (again at least a few movies). Also, terriers.

Dobermans, Rottweilers, Beaucerons, and German shepherds are top picks for the antagonist characters, or just as Menacing Dogs

There are several I haven’t watched yet because they are not on any streaming service, and I will have to check my library to see if they have any of them to loan. I am looking forward to the Tim Allen shaggy dog (horrifying poster- dog with human eyes photoshopped on), marmaduke (I remember this movie being terrible), cats & dogs (I remember liking these)

Im tempted to try and make a big long video just. Reviewing all the movies I have watched but that is a massive waste of my time and also I have the personality of a shoe so I’m not sure who would actually be interested in watching it. Much to think about.

Hii I wanted to ask if you know about this! So I have a bunch of beanie boos/TY and one of them is kinda a different shape and size? According to the internet it's Spotter the leopard from 2012. Idk what year my other beanie boos are from but is this one a different series or were they like that earlier or something? His eyes are also not the usual glitter but instead more metallic. (I also have photos but tumblr wont let me add them)

Hi! So Beanie Boos were first released in 2009. The first wave of them was exclusive to the UK, and they are actually considered to be the most rare beanie boos!

the original 7 UK exclusive beanie boos, from L to R: Bamboo, Bubblegum, Coconut, Kiwi, Peanut, Slush, and Waddles. Peanut was never released with pink ears after the initial wave.

From 2009-2012 beanie boos did not have glitter eyes, rather they had solid or metallic irises. The first glitter eyed Beanie Boos were released in Mar-June 2012 as Justice store exclusives! They were Duchess the Chihuahua, Glamour the Leopard, Treasure the Unicorn, and Sapphire the Zebra.

Soon after, in 2013, all beanie boos were redesigned to have glitter eyes, and their design was more standardized to what we are now used to from mid 2010’s beanie boos.

Your Spotter the Leopard was released before this global redesign, which is why he looks unique! I love his shape and his floppy legs, he looks less compact and “stiff” than the more modern beanie boos!
