Here's the thing about me, I shouldn't eat dairy. I end up quite sick if i eat too much dairy, and I can't eat cheese at all.

With that in mind.

Racers chocolate bars, aka Aldi's version of snickers. I shouldn't eat them, but I do. I can't go past them in Aldi without buying a packet, so thank god I hardly go to Aldi. There's the (illicit) chocolate, the very sweet caramel (also dairy whoops), the crunch of the nuts, bit of nougat. What's not to like?

Popcorn. Love it at the cinema, love it at home, and i'll have it sweet or salty, or sweet and salty. I miss when microwavable ones came with a slab of caramel that melted through in the microwave process but I suppose it was a risk of causing burns or something... But! Big caveat. I can't stand most butterkisst special flavours. If it's light and fluffy and just warm, i'm happy. If it's pre-made toffee or chocolate or strawberry dust, nope, i'll pass.

Real snickers. Same reason as Racers.

Chocolate covered raisins. Luckily there is some (expensive) vegan versions now I can get to lesson the consequences!

Mint and lamb crisps. Now, here's the sad thing, my favourite brand of crisps was Brannigans. Some people might remember them as being sold in pubs but they were also sold in hospital cafes, and I was occasionally allowed a packet as a treat. They started selling Brannigans in Home and Bargains in 2015ish. Like, great! Blast from the past. I bought them twice a year or so. But, Brannigans have now gone out of business, as of 2020. Not to worry, because Seabrooks started doing Mint and Lamb, so I was buying them (occasionally) instead even though they weren't as good as Brannigans. But, for some reason now whilst everywhere sells Seabrooks, nowhere sells the mint and lamb flavour anymore. I now have to content myself with Lidl special editions when they copy Yorkshire crisps, because whilst they're my favourite flavour, I'm not spending almost £4 + postage and packaging on a tub of Yorkshire crisps just to get my lamb and mint fix. I'll be fine without. I don't mind the odd salt and vinegar.

Currently watching/reading:

Currently watching season 2 of The Bear. I know I’m late to this one but as someone who used to work in a kitchen and had some of the most stressful days of her life there, it took me a while to feel ready. It’s really well-done, both in terms of writing and acting, but jfc it’s triggering for me sometimes.

Currently reading a bunch of stuff, as always, but what I’ll mention is that I’m in the midst of a reread of Elizabeth Gilbert’s Big Magic, one of the texts I tend to return to when I need a kick in the pants, creatively. Current favorite piece of wisdom from Gilbert (or Seamus Heaney via Gilbert) is this:

“A particularly elegant commentary on this instinct [trust in your creativity] came from Nobel laureate Seamus Heaney, who said that—when one is learning how to write poetry—one should not expect it to be immediately good. The aspiring poet is constantly lowering a bucket only halfway down a well, coming up time and again with nothing but empty air. The frustration is immense. But you must keep doing it, anyway” (148).

Sweet/savory/spicy?: Depends on my mood, but probably savory.

Current obsessions: I tend to be a person of varied and rotating obsessions, including: finding the perfect early 80s tunes as the soundtrack for my current podfic project, Monster Theory scholarship (ask me about my personal theory about yonic imagery and the gates/monstrous mouths in ST), adding miles to my long ride, getting better at Travis picking, improving my voice acting/narration, writing my silly little stories (and never sharing them b/c 😱).

It’s been a while since I read or listened to a podfic that I wrote a lengthy reply to but here is my latest for The Next Place by maniacalmole. Literarion narrates it with so many others in the community. <3

I am so so in love with all your narrating but this was brilliant to have so many collaborators making this work so beautifully! I love this fandom and how much love and heart is poured into the art around our boys. I love their love. I listened to this while on my way to and from work and was broken and tearing up at times. Other times I took myself for walks with this playing in my headphones and laughed out loud like a mad person. :D

The play between Crowley and Aziraphale being separated and missing each other was so angsty and gut wrenching. The pull in my heart to fix things and see them together again is so real. When they do come together in the end it heals a part of me too that is hurting and not just hurting from the story but hurting from life… isn’t that funny?

I love how life is really made up of stories we tell ourselves. I like these stories of love and hope and hard won connection. Overcoming stupidly huge odds. Maybe it’s not possible in real life but I want to hold on to it still. In whatever form I can.
