I'M LISTENING!!!!!😇
Tumblr media
"...the power that dwelt there was too great for any to overcome, unless Sauron had come there himself." Practicing composition and working on some fandom ideas, as one does. :D

it's so sad that celeborn will never encounter Hot Adar Who Fucks. i would have liked to see adar finagle his way into a throuple with a centuries-married couple purely on the power of his hotness and fuckability. it'd be like
celeborn: you got remarried to an ORC while i was presumed dead?!
galadriel: listen i can explain-
adar: ah, you must be celeborn? i'm afraid our wife is a liar, though unintentionally so, for even her loving descriptions of your beauty pale in comparison to the reality.
celeborn: 😳😳😳😳😳😳

Some more thoughts on the idea that Elrond gets more eldritch as he ages. I'm gonna make another post about this that's more fun Eldritch Peredhel stuff but I felt the need to address some of the implications of this headcanon first.
Like I said, Elrond changes slowly, and most elves don't notice at first. When they do, though, things get interesting.
See, Elrond looks increasingly like Luthien over time. As a child, he had similar facial features, but didn't really resemble her otherwise. But when his hair starts to darken and his eyes turn gray, it becomes clear that he's almost an exact replica of Doriath's princess.
The Sindar find this amazing and wonderful– for a lot of them, their feelings of grief over the loss of Doriath are very connected to the loss of Luthien and Melian (who kept Doriath safe), and "having Luthien back" is great. Of course, this puts Elrond in a very strange position. On one hand, it's nice for him to have elves who encourage him to push the limits of his Ainuric power and tell him stories about his mother's family, who he knows so little about. On the other hand, he can't deny it's a little unsettling sometimes, the way that people can stare right at him and see someone else. He also doesn't like how... possessive some of them seem of him, expecting him to act like his ancestors, even though he's his own person.
It's a little more complicated for the Noldor. Some of them find Elrond's increasingly obvious powers creepy– they're a lot more inclined to be distrustful of the Ainur. But it's worth noting that for all Elrond looks like Luthien, his gray eyes and dark hair also make him look very Noldor, a lot more than he did as a child. And while some of the Noldor are uneasy about Elrond, lots of them see him as one of the finest jewels of the Finwean family– a healer who's dedication to his craft is almost unmatched. They can also be a little bit weird about seeing his ancestors when they look at him, or about expecting him to dress, act, and present himself in a certain way. Especially the old Feanorians, who care deeply about Elrond but do not always express that care in normal ways.
Gil-Galad is a huge help here– he's older than Elrond, but was too young to have any memories of most of the people the other elves compare Elrond to. And he has a very low tolerance for people making his herald uncomfortable. Sometimes he enlists Galadriel and Celeborn (who cared about Elrond for who he was long before he started looking like Luthien) to deal with particularly stubborn elves.

I’m on board with the “Adar was/is Celeborn” theory purely because I want this crack exchange -
Adar/Celeborn: You cheated on me with Sauron!
Galadriel: Well you also cheated on me with Sauron so the scales are balanced
Adar/Celeborn: What?? In what-
Galadriel: You left me, your wife, for 1000 years, to have a family and children with him
Adar/Celeborn: Okay, well, you fell in love with him. Which means you weren’t even in love with me in the first place. Which is worse
Galadriel: YOU LITERALLY HAD HIS CHILDREN
Adar/Celeborn: You married me for all eternity wiTHOUT EVEN BEING IN LOVE WITH ME
High King Gil-Galad, to Elrond: Still think he’s fake and they’re not married?
Elrond: Oh no, I take it back, they’re definit- oh my god Galadriel do not challenge him to a duel there is nothing wrong with your womb gods above

I want to talk about Celadriel compared to Haladriel/Saurondriel and the reasons why I want Celeborn to appear in the show, but I am terrified of the hate I might receive-

i have to laugh about people complaining about how Bigoted and Disrespectful thingol is to the noldor as if he doesn't:
remain friends with finrod and tell him the location of nargothrond, which finrod goes on to be the king of - meaning thingol is fine with there being a noldorin elven ruler in beleriand
outright state that he will not cut ties with fingolfin and his followers, who do participate in the slaughter of his brother's people, merely because he sees that they've atoned for their actions
host galadriel in doriath and make no objection to her wedding with celeborn, his own grand-nephew - meaning he is also fine with noldor staying in his court and marrying into his own family
the only noldor whom he openly dismisses and dislikes are the fëanorians, who participated in the aforementioned slaughter of his brother's people, insult him, and refuse to acknowledge him as a king despite him having maintained his kingdom in beleriand since before they were born and certainly long before they came there. but that's just it isn't it. fandom can't handle someone in-universe disdaining their precious innocent war criminals and that's why everything bad that happens in the first age is thingol's fault. or the fault of his grandson for not giving the silmaril that his parents nearly died to obtain to the people who disrespected his grandfather and tried to rape his mother. or the fault of his great-granddaughter for not giving the silmaril to the people that sacked her home, killed her entire family including her brothers who were children, and made her a refugee as a toddler. it is definitely not the fault of the people who decided to do all the ambushing and attacking, no absolutely not. that's nonsense, they're just victims of tyrannical close-minded racist elu thingol and his equally entitled descendants :DDD

hey, alma. i have been following you for a while and i like many of your takes, you always seem level-headed in this fandom, but i think you missed this time around and that post wasn't it. i'm not writing you this to make you feel bad! please, believe me, my intent is not to bring you down or anything of this sort. but the user you were talking about is getting witch hunted by celeb0rn fans, and she made that post because she has been harassed by haladriel-antis and celeb0rn fans for months and months, simply for her interpretations of the show. she never attacked anyone personally, she never rebloged anyone's takes to dismiss them. she just expressed her dislike of celeb0rn fans' own witch hunts and their own insistence that they get galadriel the right way. so it was quite disappointing to see haladriel shipper such as yourself add fuel to the fire that is eating up our fandom right now. turning on each other for celeb0rn is a bit of a waste, isn't it? and we know that the majority of celeb0rn stans aren't genuinely his stans, they are just antis.
i think the fandom is getting more and more toxic, not sure what it is about. im not writing you this so that you answer to this ask, i know you probably weren't coming from a bad place, but i just think this time your post had consequences that you did not intend to happen.
Hello anon, since you seem to be at least cordial, I will respond to this ask and it will be the last time I address this situation:
"we know that the majority of celeb0rn stans aren't genuinely his stans, they are just antis."
This is the root of the problem here. I am saying this in the kindest way possible. Yes, you are allowed to dislike a character. You are even allowed to bash said character in your own spaces. A line is crossed when you make untrue statements like this. The attitude that the majority of "Celeborn stans" who also happen to enjoy Haladriel are just antis is inaccurate and has made a lot of people incredibly uncomfortable. It has made me uncomfortable as someone who is friends with many multishippers who like and explore dynamics with all of these characters involved.
As I said in my original post, I do not ascribe to this all or nothing mentality to shipping or fandom in general. The idea that there is only one right way to like and consume this ship is hurtful and makes many people feel ostracized and unwelcome in this space. I say this as someone who doesn't even care for Celeborn as a character at all and have actively shit talked him around mutuals who agree with me. But I also say this as someone who has been friends with the most incredible Haladriels for 2+ years at this point, Haladriels who have written 100k+ word fanfictions, Haladriels who have dissected and analyzed lore back to front since the early 2000s, who are also interested in exploring Galadriel's dynamic with Celeborn! *gasp* Don't put me in shackles and drag me to the town square but someone who likes a character you don't isn't a crime! It doesn't make them any less of a Haladriel. It doesn't make them "antis in disguise"
This sort of mindset has been permeating the tag for many months now. I never felt inclined to really say anything about it until these broad generalizations were being made by people who I've personally never even seen before here. Like my good friend @nocaptainonthisship has said, "I've been in this fandom since its inception two years ago" isn't a dick measuring contest. It's saying I've been here. I've seen it.
I don't know a whole lot about this account that you're referring to in the ask. I don't even know anything about these people supposedly harassing them either. I don't condone that. I have refrained from @'ing them at all either here or in my original post so as to not to contribute to pile-ons if that is indeed happening. I did block them about a week ago after continuously seeing these actively hostile and confrontational takes about who can and can't be considered a real Haladriel based on their character preferences. Feel free to block me if that is the approach to fandom you want to have. It will certainly never be mine.

The hilarious part is celeborn place in both those ships lol.
The hilarious part is halbrand is not even the 'threat' to celeborn's place in galadriel's story.
It's elrond.
Because at this point of the show, what role could celeborn possibly have that elrond hadn't already fulfilled??
He's her best friend, her most trusted confidant, the light to sauron's darkness (he was literally the one who pulled her from the brink in both season finales).
I'm not even going to attempt to figure out the logistics of inserting celeborn into the show's narrative without fucking up elrond and galadriel's dynamics.

Will never forget this one person that said Tolkien made a mistake by putting Galadriel with Celeborn and that she should have ended with Celebrimbor instead, no hate to people who like this ship without being dicks about it, but because of that all I can think of this relationship now is

This little exchange from Ep. 2.02 is giving me pause -
Cirdan: Do you not wish to live in beauty?
Elrond: What is beauty if it is born in part from evil?
Cirdan: No less beautiful.
Elrond: Not to me.
The way that this could be interpreted to hint at some of the (supposedly) wilder fan theories! It would be incredibly ironic if Elrond had to eat his words when he falls in love with a half-Maia Celebrian.
Or maybe it's just a veiled real-world commentary on learning to be okay with beautiful art produced by problematic artists. Who can say.

[Excerpt from Sorrow Beyond Words: Collected Testimony of the War of Wrath, 4th Edition; ed. Elrond Peredhel. Archive of Cîw Annúminas, inaugural collection]
“Simply reaching Menegroth was a struggle. Doriath had become a twisting nightmare of overgrowth and rot and mists, as Morgoth’s power warred with the remains of the Girdle and our old songs. Ai, our home, our haven! I know the name of every holly in Region, before the exile. We found deadfalls surrounded by dozens of animals who’d lain down beside the trees and rotted before they died. Blind moose more antler than flesh staggered towards us even after a dozen arrows. Vines covered in dripping thorns reached for our eyes. The cherry trees were overladen with fruits that smelled like gangrene. Deildhod stumbled into a nest of maddened vipers, and only escaped because their tails were all tangled together into a festering mass and could hardly move. We never saw or heard a single bird. I’m amazed we lost no one in that whole push through Region. No, I speak a lie. I know how we passed through with nothing worse than scrapes. Elrond was with us, and the ghost of Melian’s love still recognized her kin.
“Esgalduin had nearly been dammed by one of Hírilorn’s fallen boles, but the bridge still held. We crossed and reached the ruined gates, wrought twice and broken twice. Within there was only darkness to be seen; we knew not what manner of horrors Morgoth had sent to infest the city, but Ingwion was unwilling to leave them at the rear of his forces as he moved north, if it could be helped. Celeborn stood at Elrond’s right and myself at his left. Far less an honor guard than the heir of Elu Thingol and Melian Besain deserved. Yet in those dark days it was all the honor we could muster. King Dior Eluchíl had known thirty-six summers when he was unrighteously slain. Queen Elwing Nimaew thirty-five when despair took her to the sea. Lord Elrond Peredhel beheld the city of Elu for the first and only time in his twenty-ninth summer.
“Elrond stood before his inheritance and Sang. He sang a lament, for the lost endless years of joy and peace, for deep halls lit by birdsong and echoing with wisdom, for the Forsaken People who awoke the forest and earth with many voices, for the works of beauty never to be seen again on this side of the sea. He sang a promise, that the glory of Menegroth will be remembered in the songs of Middle-Earth for as long as its children endure. He sang thanks, for the protection the halls granted us until it could shelter us no more. As his song at last ceased, I thought I heard nightingales answering him.
“Stars shone on his brow, and his hair glistened as the vault of night, and the memories of our once-eternal bliss in the woods of Thingol’s realm under Elbereth’s gifts arose in my mind. Let Oropher dream of a deep hall for his own; let Celeborn reign where he will at his wife’s side! I knew in my heart, as the echo of nightingale songs faded, that there was no lord or king I would ever stand beside save Elrond Elwingion.
“The living stone in which our kingdom once thrived knew his voice, and at long last laid down its burden and passed. The darkness over Menegroth was lifted, and we went forth into its corpse, and no beast or orc could stand before us. I do not sing of what we found and left behind when we cast down the bridge and gave leave for the river to flood the caves. It is not worth remembering.”

@conundrumoftime just incidentally reminding me how much I love the idea of Sauron taking one (1) look at Celeborn and being like ‘actually I want him too’ because listen, Sauron can be possessively in love with several people at once!

So I don’t think Rings of Power will do that theory about Celeborn actually being dead and getting sent back Glorfindel-style, BUT: if they did, that sounds like it could be a pretty horrific thing from his POV?
The horror of being returned to a world you don’t recognise, prince of a kingdom that no longer exists. Every soldier you see reminds you of those you couldn’t save; every bright banner recalls those of yours you saw trampled into mud.
You have no scars from the orc-blade that once struck you down. Your skin is untouched by the dragon-fire that killed you. You sit alone for long, long hours, staring at your unmarked body, wondering why, wondering if your death is something you’re meant to make amends for.
Galadriel backs away from you, calls you a deceit of Sauron’s sent to torment her. You don’t really have any way to convince her she’s wrong and part of you starts to think, maybe she isn’t. Maybe you wouldn’t even know.

Celeborn: I said you could bring Elrond to the council with you, not half of the free peoples of Middle Earth
Gilgalad : (close to tears) he doesn’t come separately!
Celeborn: (looking behind him) Is that then fallen hero of Gondolin!?!
Elrond: (smiling) Found him up along the way

Everyone is posting their fancasts for Celeborn and I love looking at them, and though I do not have a fancast for him myself yet, I personally do hope they pick someone who looks similar to Charlie Vickers for the reason that I want it to be visibly clear that Galadriel has a type.
