Never rush, never hasten. Holding back oneself and a thorough introspection is often what will bring you an unfound peace and tranquility. Make not your life one large collection of haphazard reactions but make it an exhibition of calm & well composed responses. I don't believe in blind shots. I'll take my time. Pull back my bow, aim, wait and when it is the right time, I'll strike. That's how I prefer to take my shot and guess what? 9/10 - it hits right at the bull's-eye!

Most people assume that nothing much scares Edwin. He spent seven decades in hell. What, up here on earth, could possibly compare, after that? Turns out, quite a lot. In fact, Edwin scares incredibly easy. Spiders. The sound of a child's laughter. Old porcelain dolls. The dark. And then there's the myriad of creatures and vengeful spirits they face on cases. He is scared very often. He has simply become skilled at operating as usual, even in the depths of terror. Even when every non-existent nerve is screaming at him to hide. Even when his vision is going fuzzy at the edges, his ears ringing. Hell didn't make him less easily frightened, but it did give him the ability to carry on when he is.

Do you know what the bleeding is all about? Like when he starts coughing up blood after his barrier breaks. Does he just like straight up start bleeding internally or something?

Ah, thank you! Yes, I absolutely have the answer. In fact, I’m going to take this opportunity to make a post that was already floating in my head.

Arlo and Recoil Damage

First, to answer your question in a literal sense, yes. It’s definitely internal bleeding. Specifically, damage to his lungs.

It’s also not at all unprecedented for a person to be wounded like this. Every person with a conjuring type ability takes damage when their conjures are damaged.

The difference with Arlo, is that his damage happens below the skin. Here’s where it gets juicy.

Symbolism

Arlo’s ability is very symbolic, possibly the most so of anyone in the series. His nigh unbreakable barrier he puts around himself represents his metaphorical walls, and how he keeps everyone at a distance. His passive makes him invulnerable— he gets punched in the face, clawed at, stabbed at, etc, and doesn’t even blink. The only way to hurt Arlo is to break through his barrier. And when his walls are broken down, there’s a wound in his chest. It’s not literal enough to be his heart that bleeds, but it’s very close.

There’s also something that’s been kicking around in my head for awhile—

“You’re the strongest one out of all of us here right now. You can try to brush this whole thing off... but to the rest of us, it’s still scary. If even you can’t protect yourself, what can the rest of us do?” — Remi, Ep. 61.

I remembered the line being “When people as strong as you show fear, it scares the rest of us.” However, that must have come from a different scene and I won’t track it down.

It’s plain and simple: High tiers have been taught their whole lives to bottle things up.

This is also seen reflected in Seraphina—

(ep. 20) Granted, the circumstances here are very different, but it’s a similar idea. High tiers showing emotions scares people.

So they bottle them up...

… until they explode.

The judgment Arlo and Seraphina face is very similar. Seraphina rejects these expectations before the story starts, but Arlo has yet to do so. He is very much like the Seraphina we see in flashbacks.

All of this is to say: it is significant that his barrier wounds are internal. The little bit of blood we can see is mainly there so the audience knows he’s injured— but otherwise? Barrier cracks aren’t an injury that people can really see. Recoil damage is typically reflected as scratches, so his internal wounds are both unique, and symbolic of the way he hides his feelings.

one thing about Ben Florian is that he's easy to fluster until he's not. He's a very patient, very diplomatic man. He can withstand a lot of teasing from you. he can handle all the jokes and jabs and flirting, all the getting up in his face just to watch his cheeks flush, watch him try to maintain his composure. but at some point... at some point, Ben is really really going to want to call you on all your big talk. He's going to want to shut you up. it's an instintaneous and almost invisible change in his demeanor, but before you know it he has you pinned against a wall or his big mahogany desk asking you to repeat what it was you just said. You have no idea, you can't remember anything except how good his muscular chest feels pressed against yours, how easy it is for him to hold you down with his big old hands.

He presses a kiss to your nose before standing you back up and parting ways so he's not late for his next meeting. You're gonna be thinking about that for the rest of the day.

There was this one part in wemmbu's orbital cannon video where he went afk and squiddo was talking to 4C about disliking working with wemmbu and for the longest time i thought he heard this conversation because you know he included it in the video but my friend told me today that he didnt and it was kinda for foreshadowing or something like that which i understand that it makes the story really interesting, knowing the downfall would come. But I thought wemmbu knew he just didnt say anything and i felt so bad for him. He was just waiting for the inevitable betrayal but he cant do anything cause there would be no one to go to, no one else to rely on. And when squiddo did betray him he just seemed so calm like he knew it was coming. But my friend told me he actually didnt hear it? And he is just calm like that which i guess is kinda true but i dont know. I viewed it as such a sad period for him which honestly without the conversation it's still sad but doesnt hit as hard. If he did overhear it, he knew his teammate was betraying yet didnt do anything, had so many problems and setbacks when building the cannon, and in the end didnt even get to do it, gets betrayed and banned but still doesnt succeed the second time, gets found and killed then i think he also got playerbanned(???? i could be wrong but i remember spoke said something about that once). 4C brought this up on stream once and i keep thinking about it. None of the other members knew his story other than 4C (and squiddo but she doesnt view it the way 4c does). Everyone hated him, only 4C felt bad and revived him, twice but he just killed himself again.

ls!wemmbu in during abyss arc was like so sad man. I'd still like to think he did hear that convo. Makes his story sadder hihi😈
