I'm just going to say it. the attitude I'm seeing in the Silmarillion fandom from those who have never watched the ROP show, but are enjoying gifsets of the Annatar/Brimb scenes and expressing that it has them interested in those portrayals, while continuing to loudly assert that the Celebrimbor casting is atrocious because he's 'old and blond' fucking disgusts me.

It's good to listen Charlie Vickers saying: "But ruling with her (Galadriel) is a step he never would have taken. He could never share this level of power with someone. Maybe she’d have been a figurehead, a mascot for the public, but I don’t believe that, had she said yes, they’d have been king and queen. It would have been him as king and her as his assistant." and that he intended to kill Galadriel when he hurt her with the crown (edit: he intended to kill her after the "the door is shut, go to therapy" scene), because while I terribly know the last trend of creators is to follow the tropes and giving the audience or shippers what they want, it's quite good to still maintain some consistency and the characters being IC.

Thou fool: a phantom thou didst see that I, I Sauron, made to snare thy lovesick wits. Naught else was there. — The Lay of Leithian Recommenced, Canto 2

maybe one day we will have a serious conversation about how some of you enable misogyny with the way you talk about women in real life. maybe one day. cus, some of you are just blatantly disrespectful to charlie's partner, and don't even see her as a human being other than a trope to giggle over.

Charlie must have been actually possessed by sauron here bc this is not natural. His eyes are not natural. The longer you look at him the more eerie he gets

legolas is the type of guy (elf?) to say "lmfao" unironically at every possible situation. like not even the letters "l-m-f-a-o" just the weird sound it makes as if "lmfao" is an actual word

In the Chaggie angst you posted, I just imagine now Queen of Hell Charlie opening a portal into Heaven with her army of hellborn and sinners, and Saint Peter popping out from his alcove only to be met with an army. And Charlie just being like “leave while you still can. Tell the seraphims that I want two things. My love, and the heads of those who blinded her. Give me those and I will leave in peace. If not, then I will raze Heaven to the ground and sprinkle your ashes in the royal gardens.”
Poor Saint Peter is terrified and flies off once Charlie finishes. Meanwhile all the seraphim are in a frenzy, because the one chain holding Charlie back broke, and there’s no going back now.
tbh i was picturing Queen of Hell Charlie getting around the pesky-
"hell is sealed off like a canning jar and heaven won't let me right-click to open a portal for fast traveling to my gf"
-problem by just coordinating the with the six other deadly sins and having them all drive hell like a go kart right up so it smashes into heaven directly, ruining the gates and instantly putting Peter out of a job unless he wants to switch to scrap metal artwork
like, imagine Charlie making the phrase "raising hell" a very much literal thing (imagine pentious reunited with his egg boi while you're at it)

one of the most fascinating things about the rings of power is how it crashes headlong into the fortress of patriarchal heroism--specifically, the mythology of white male saviours. halbrand's echo of aragorn is no accident. he is intentionally steeped in the same promise of masculine virtue. but where aragorn is a paragon of the trope, halbrand is a subversion. his brand of heroism reveals itself as a trick.
but halbrand is not just featherlight subversion; he is a complete and total dismantling, exposing the hollowness of the archetype and a boundlessly covetous world that only allows for one type of hero to exist. it's surprising that amazon allowed for such a blunt reckoning with the myths our society so carefully props up. the rings of power isn't just a show--it's a question: what if the heart of patriarchic heroism is not goodness, but malevolence?
this is given form by a truly mesmerising performance by charlie vickers. he takes a conservative myth built on patriarchal ideals of heroism and incinerates them with a fervent and seductive glee. he is well-versed in television's deification of a certain shape of men (we all are) and its nostalgia for masculinist high-fantasy, and he takes a gleaming sword to its strictures. it's breathtaking. he will not win any awards for his work. but he should. he really should.
