The Medium and his assistant
Amity Park was a roller coaster, but after eliminating the GIW, talking to the Fentons, and getting some sort of alliance with the ghosts, Danny felt like he didn't have much else to do. He took Ellie's advice to travel a bit, but tried to make it a little more exciting.
Although the money he had been given could last forever (and longer with Vlad's card in his pocket), he wanted to earn his own money. So he made his trip a fun job, turning part of his vehicle into a trailer. Thus was born his career as a medium and fortune teller, traveling around the world, listening to the dead, advising people, etc.
Technically, thanks to Clockwork Danny could see the future, but he doesn't need it, or at least not always. And talking to the dead was practically his day-to-day, so he thought he had chosen well.
During one of his trips, when he passed through Gotham he found a zombie (which turned out to be a halfa!), the poor thing was lost, and wandering, so he helped him and did the most sensible thing possible: he offered him a job. Jason, who hadn't been back for a long time and his memories were scrambled, decided that he needed a vacation anyway, for his own sanity (not seeing the Joker's face was a bonus) and accepted the offer. Of course, he covered his face in case someone recognized him as the son of a millionaire, Danny approved.
Both traveled around the world, offering their services and bothering a certain Constantine who complained every time they had the same client (Danny replied that it really wasn't his fault, but the British man was still upset). A year later they returned to Gotham.
The Batfam assumed that Danny's business was a scam. But Bruce was desperate, he wanted to talk with Jason, to hear about him, even if it was a scam, so he visited them. When Danny asked who he wanted to contact, Bruce replied "Jason Todd."
Danny, who knew full well the identity of his employee, raised an eyebrow and glanced surreptitiously at his assistant, who was avoiding his gaze. He sighed before continuing his 'work', glancing at Jay from time to time.
A few days later, Dick Grayson showed up with the same request, and Danny made sure to kick Jason as soon as he left.
#dpxdc#Fortune teller Danny#he can see the future#and give advices#but he's not going to do it all the time#just with people that really need it#dead on main#technically he's a medium#he can talk with ghosts and all#he's just a ghost too#not that people know that#He actually summon ghosts if they want to talk with the client#dp x dc#dc x dp#Danny doesn't know what to do with Bruce Family#Jason keep avodiding them#and they keep coming back#Constantine have a rivalry with them#most of his clients contact the medium too and is annoying#Jason is happy as an assistant#he accepted impulsively but it was a good choice#Talia didn't found Jason because Danny did so he was not near the pits this time#Danny heal him with his ecto and it worked#Medium Danny

Speaking of your new and improved canon: what is the story behind Tony being somewhat chill with Bucky? Is he actually?
started writing LoF when i was being nostalgic for 2012 where the Avengers Tower fics were at its height of writing so in my world there is no divorce arc. I have no idea how to elaborate on that other than Tony having Peter around changed shit up because having a kid changes your world perspective a lot
#in other words#i didn't expect LoF to get this big#and it wasn't going to be posted but really just shared with alighterwood when i first wrote it#so i didn't expect to have to come up with a reason#just like how in the DC world the Bats are in a state where they're not fighting and Bruce isn't written like an asshole#our Marvel buddies got the same treatment#i have avoided going into depth about why the Avengers are still chill with each other because i just wanted to write them being happy#decidedly hard to be happy if i write the civil war arc#maybe one day i'll have an in universe reason but this is the actual one#it's probably a plot hole but it's a harmless one so we just put a slab of wood over it and say “yeehaw brother i reckon that's right”#erinwantstowrite#ao3#ao3 fanfic#leap of faith ao3#thank you for the ask!#leap of faith catch me if you can

Dick genuinely doesn’t have a favorite sibling, he’s like the parent that says “I love all my children equally” and you believe it, he actually loves them all equally. He’s been trying to convince them that for the last few years, they don’t believe him, so he does what he has to, he says it’s Steph and let’s her deal with it.
#someone tries to say ‘she isn’t even really ur sister’ and Steph chews them out#‘oh so u think just cuz we’re not blood related we can’t be siblings’#‘oh so you’re calling me unimportant’ ‘oh so yourself saying all I am is a nuisance that hangs around you even though you don’t want me to’#‘oh are you saying I’m a leech that’s sucking off of this family’s happiness and love’#no one ever tries that again after that#so now whenever anyone brings it up all she has to say is ‘why wouldn’t I be his favorite? I’m funny#I’m pretty and I’m the best one here’ and no one can argue with that#so they just don’t#and Steph know she ain’t actually the fave she just lives for the drama#and dck is never bothered about it again#dc comics#comics#robin#batfam#dick grayson#bruce wayne#jason todd#damian wayne#tim drake#duke thomas#cassandra cain#stephanie brown

Prompt 248
Jason… wasn’t exactly planning on going back to Gotham.
Oh sure, back when he’d first gotten his head fixed up by the Pits and then utterly fucked by them he had been planning on a convoluted thing of revenge and getting Bruce to kill the joker and honestly he’s barely not doing that. But a literal six year old declaring your plan was stupid was downright insulting, even if they were correct.
But he’s not going to drag this out. He’s only here for a few days, just enough to take care of things with a couple of Shadows loyal to Talia- and therefor him as well- before Damian is sent over. It was a thing he had argued with her for hours, the whole sending Damian here, but… But it was something Damian wanted, and well, she was paying for college for him. So.
So Joker would die, would never get a chance to hurt his baby brother. It wouldn’t be his first kill- he didn’t regret his previous ones, not when the blood would have been on Damian’s hands instead- but hopefully it would be his last.
#Prompts#Batman Au#Let Jason & Damian be brothers#Joker dies 3 days before Talia arrives with Damian & the bats are SUS#They don’t know about Jason being alive & neither mention it#Actually there’s misunderstandings when Damian first mentions his Akhi#”Is he Talia’s?” “Of course he is- that is what brothers mean does it not”#”Is your brother Bruce’s?” “Of course he’s father’s you imbecile”#Batfam: *Having breakdowns*#Damian: Wtf why is this side idiots really#Jason: *Getting his english major & messaging Damian daily to check in*#Damian refuses to tell much more information about Jason because his Akhi wanted Out of the whole vigilante/assassin business#He’s finally happy & not sad/angry & Damian will go rabid if someone ruins it#Jason Todd#Damian Al Ghul#Batman#Actually Damian might not even know that Jason Died and wasn't just Very Hurt

Wild to me that BRUCE was the one who decided that Jason was “lashing out” because Jason hadn’t come to terms with his parents’ deaths (WHICH…EXCUSE ME SIR????)…
Which led directly to the Ethiopia situation (which, btw, WHY DOES NOBODY EVER CALL BRUCE OUT FOR NOT KNOWING HIS UNDERAGE SON WAS IN ETHIOPIA???)…
AND THEN canon has the AUDACITY to have BRUCE blame JASON for his own murder!
Like…YOU WERE THE ONE WHO STARTED THIS WHOLE THING IN THE FIRST PLACE?!!!!
How…what…GAHHHH!!!
#Jason Todd#Bruce Wayne#DC should be really happy I wasn’t into comics fandom in 1989 holy shit.#they would’ve gotten SO MANY angry actual hand-written letters!#and then fuckin ALPOD has Tim doing everything Jason got chastised for but that’s okay cause…#Tim is a PLUCKY (rich) BOY DETECTIVE!

*takes a deep breath and leans in so close that my lips touch the microphone*
the tragedy of dick and jason’s relationship as brothers is not that they hated each other and then jason died, or that they were super close and then jason died. the tragedy is that dick did not know enough about jason to know how to mourn him. were they brothers? were they rivals? dick sure doesn’t know, and jason doesn’t either! but it’s fine bc they have plenty of time to figure that shit out, they don’t need to know each other right now bc there will be time to know each other later.
except.
#sorry saw a long post about this and had Thoughts#dick doesn’t know jason!!! he doesn’t really try to know jason!#and jason doesn’t so much give a fuck about knowing dick!#but then jason is *gone* and they will never get the chance to be brothers/rivals/friends#and the only way dick has left to know him is to mourn him#but bruce guards that like he guards nothing else in his entire guarded life#dick can see the memorial and dick can know bruce failed#but dick does not get to mourn jason bc only *bruce* has that burden/comfort/responsibility#and so dick has nothing. no happy memories to comfort himself w no bad memories to make it easier that jay is gone#and *that’s* the fucking tragedy. dick does not get to keep any part of jason whatsoever#and so he makes sure to bond w tim and w damian#bc he knows not to count on a future that may never happen#he knows that the potential of a relationship is not worth a fraction of an actual one (good or bad)#jason doesn’t care enough about dick to include him in his plans for revenge#it’s not hatred or love or jealousy or even *friendship*#the tragedy of dick and jason’s relationship is that they never really have one#and no matter if jason comes back from the dead if dick makes up for it w tim and dami#they’re never going to get that time back

ok but My Adventures with Superman is SO GOOD THOUGH? like. sobbing on the floor, squeeing and screaming good????? this is a dc show that both knows dc and specifically KNOWS SUPERMAN. everything about it is so schmoopy and soft and dramatic and dire and silly and just ugh. I love it.
I'm so happy this show exists, I'm so happy we're getting a season 2 im so excited to see brainiac and whoever else they decide to bring in just AAAA
#my adventures with superman#the characters are written so well#everything works abd makes sense#the way the villains are so far all tech based is also an interesting spin#it makes clarks powers stand out as actively strange and speciakl#and it means that whenever we eventually get villains with real powers theyll be more of a threat#mxy was kind of the setup for that#eeeeee im so happy to have a superman cartoon written by people who actually understand clark as a character#i grew up on bruce timm who clearly hates clark so its just so refreshing#along with how soft and cute and silly the show is 80% of the time#ITS REALLY GOOD OK.

What I have done so far of my BatFam movie script >:)
Super cool logos with super cool music in the background
It opens with a few low level mobsters in what looks like an abandoned subway station talking around joking with a sickly beaten up person using a wall as a headrest. An upbeat pop-electro funk song playing. Then one of the mobsters swing around the baseball bat that they are holding until they accidentally drop it. When the bat hits the floor the clang echos and the music stops. You can hear a train in the distance and then you hear echoing footsteps and see black boots followed by a cape. Then it goes back to the mobsters with frightened looks on their faces before the person who dropped the bat picks it up again and then the other people pick up their different weapons and put their ‘game faces’ on and get in the different positions they have to be in to use their weapons (like the person with the bat is in the batting position in baseball, and another person has like a chain and they like pull their chain or swing it around like a mace or something) and then the person with the cape like pulls out his grappling hook and like it hangs on the rafters and he hits someone straight in the face and when he lands it shows batman and like either the batman animated series music plays or like nirvana instrumental cover. And then a whole fight scene goes on and then like two of the mobsters like run away saying something.
Mobster with chain:
N-no one could be as they huff as they run bad as Batman.
The other one nods their head as they run off into the night. Then it cuts out to the landscape of Gotham with the bat signal shining brightly.
Then it cuts to some kid on a skateboard with either an Oasis song or The cure (maybe sweater weather by the neighborhood). Headphones on his ears and phone sticking out of his pocket dangerously close to falling out. Then he tucks it back in and does a swift turn on his skateboard. And you see the whole kid. It’s Tim Drake(!!!!). 17 year old badass. He zooms past people on his skateboard. A batman sweatshirt on and an obnoxious color of orange for his shoes. He has a backpack on with a monster (or a different energy drink) in his pocket. It looks like the backpack is dangerously close to just breaking and spilling all over the street, but it doesn’t. And then it zooms out to show gotham in the day time as it moves over showing gotham, and then ending on wayne manor. The camera goes through the window and shows Alfred(!!!!) the music switches to something like the righteous brothers or carole king. And it just shows Alfred working in the kitchen probably like either cooking lunch or dinner. Then the camera moves to the living room and shows Damian(!!!!) he's simultaneously sketching and petting Ace the bat-hound but mostly petting Ace.
Then the camera move over to the TV which is playing a news broadcast which shows The Signal. You can hear like mumbles of the news broadcaster but you mostly just hear a catchy pop song or like rap idk just something way more modern. And the signal is out there kicking ass. And then it goes from a tv screen to the actual place where the fight is. You once again see Tim riding on his skateboard past the scene and it follows him until he goes by a building labeled something like “Gotham’s school of ballet” (or something) and a Mitski song comes on and you see Cass(!!!!). Cass waves to Tim and as you see him ride by you see him wave too. Cass walks along the street for a little until you get to a shop that has rock music playing at it’s doors than you see the door open and it’s Jason (!!!) and “Hate to say I told you so” comes on and Cass smiles as Jason walks over to his motorcycle which is parked on the side walk. He puts a bag full of what seems to be groceries in the basket and gets on his bike followed by Cass. And when he turns it on the song plays even louder as they drive off in the distance. Than the camera goes through the streets all the way back to Wayne manor where you see jason’s bike, and Tim’s skateboard parked outside. You hear the sounds of a car stopping and you hear an upbeat pop song in the distance almost like it’s on a radio.
Then you see a a pair of black boots with dark blue laces and hear the pop song getting louder as you hear the door open. Then you see Dick (!!!!) with a smile on his face the camera shows that it’s darker out and almost night as he walks in. Alfred greets Dick at the door as he takes his coat the pop song continues to play as Dick and everyone are like yay!! and all that. Dick ruffles damian’s hair as he sits down next to him. Alfred brings in the food for everyone and people start eating as the music fades out. You see the camera pan over everyone and no one is talking. Each person shows a different emotion. Bruce is just staring at his food taking abite every now and then. Damian is eating more consistently but just kind of staring at his food as well. Dick looks like he’s just fake smiling while he’s eating. Cass is looking at tim every now and then and is eating consistently as well. Duke looks a bit awkward as he eats. Jason looks like he doesn’t want to be there at all. Tim looks like he’s about to say something but then continuously decides he’s not gonna say it as he gets nudged by cass.
Tim opens his mouth to say what he was going to say and then Bruce gets up and leaves the table and his less then halfway eaten plate of food.
Alfred: Master bruce.
Alfred follows Bruce to go bring him back to the table. Then Jason stands up and it moves the table slightly as he mutters something about the dinner being a waste of time. Cass gets up to follow him to bring him back. Damian also leaves in this commotion.
Tim frowns and looks to turn to Dick who’s the only one left at the table only for Dick to go running after Damian. Tim is left there alone every other plate had most or all of it’s food gone but Tim’s is still full and not eaten out of. Then it fades to Tim in his Red Robin suit in the batcave. It’s after patrol. Tim is looking at the Bat computer and then the camera moves to Damian who is next to Bruce trying to look at the file Bruce is working on everyone in their vigilante outfits.
Tim: Hood went to his safehouse, said he wasn’t coming to the cave.
Bruce gave a grunt and got up leaving and turning off his screen leaving Damian behind with a forced neutral look on his face but you can see that he wants acknowledgement. The Camera then follows Bruce and as he passes by you see Dick looking back at Damian with a sad look on his face as he looks at bruce as he walks by.

batman: son of the demon
[ID: three panels of Bruce Wayne and Talia al Ghul being in love (and horny) for each other. In the first one, Bruce is in their luxurious bedroom for the first time and is awkwardly standing in his costume as Talia is behind a dressing screen and is changing into a white, satin négligée with lace detailing on it. She reminds him that they technically are married (and that she consented readily to it) but Bruce confesses, “I remember. But it's hard for me to consider that marriage real.” Talia emerges from behind the screen, looking as beautiful as ever as she walks up to him and eases his cowl off. She tells him, “Beloved, you give too much thought to what is ‘real,’ and what is not, to what is ‘true,’ and what is ‘false...’ I realize that is your way, but just this once, accept things as they are...” He strips himself of his clothes as they move to the bed—Talia laying on her back as he's between her legs. She continues to speak, “Forego your control, your discipline... just once, let yourself go... and take me with you.” Her arms slip around his neck as they kiss passionately.
The second panel is lineart of them against a white background. They look at each other lovingly, her hands reaching up to be on his shoulders as he holds her waist. The narration boxes read: ‘While still finding time to be a newlywed, a role in which he is quite unskilled... but—to his delight—quickly learns.’
In the third panel, several weeks have past. Bruce and Ra's al Ghul are walking before Talia interrupts and asks her beloved for a word. Bruce starts to ask if it can wait, due to him and Ra's discussing an important mission but she tells him it cannot. Ra's reassures, “Go, detective, we shall speak of this later.” Bruce and Talia pull away to talk in private, the background a beautiful, bright ombré of red and yellows. She has her arms up on his shoulders as he holds her waist and starts to ask, “Now, Talia, what's so impor—” but she quickly shares, “Beloved, I am with child.” Bruce starts to repeat her but Talia already confirms again, “I am pregnant.” She continues to look up at him, patiently waiting for his response as Bruce stares straight ahead, obviously in shock. He slowly repeats the words back to her in an attempt to register them, “You're... pregnant?” Before he suddenly beams! He pulls her into a tight, close embrace as he excitedly announces, “That's wonderful!” Talia smiles at him and says, “Isn't it?” Before her father can shake Bruce's hand with his own warm smile. Bruce still holds Talia's hand as Ra's tells him, “Detective, Dr. Weltmann could not keep this from me. My congratulations.” END ID]

slides into ur inbox as a tim-liker not to start a fight but to genuinely ask if i could gently change ur mind👀👀 bc tim's not that bad if you'd give him a chance (he is very cringe tho
It's not that I don't like him!! But sometimes it just gets exhausting to see "he suffered so much to keep the big bad bat alive" takes like Alfred wasn't right there
#like im sorry if i was a grieving parent and people literally attacked me for not being rational and in the best state of mind#while im literally grieving my murdered child and some kid came into my life because he wants to be robin and keep batman going#yeah i would be a little irritated#but it feels so mean spirited of me in a way? because i never want to shit on someones character#also i just dont like the 'child is responsible for parent' trope at all and it just feels like tim is so martyrized by the fandom#but i also dont like the 'tim forced his way into the family blah blah blah' like. no he didn't. the whole point of tim to me is that#he doesnt NEED to be with the batfamily but he WANTS to be there bc he loves them#its kinda how i feel abt steph. i actually really that she doesn't want to be seen as Bruce's daughter#because steph never NEEDED a father thats her whole point i think#so basically i dont dislike tim. i would just be fine without him. but like -- my favorite batboy is jason so maybe thats why?#anyway moral of the story if a character makes you happy they make you happy and its no one elses business

I'm not following your logic. Every piece of media Judd created about why Jason did what he did in UTRH was centered around the Joker being alive and every piece since has stated Bruce killing the Joker would heal Jason in some way. The only reason he breaks down and destroys is room after being healed by the Pit is that he learns the Joker is alive and killing people. 1-2
I'm starting to wonder if I'm the only person who's actually read this stupid book considering Jason literally says very clearly to the Joker in utrh that this isn't about you and that he is only bait - honestly tho alot of people get confused about this so I'll try to explain it
The Joker isn't important the only reason he is in the story is bc he killed Jason, if he was killed by literally any other person and that person was still alive by the time jason came back to life nothing about utrh would change apart from maybe the name red hood - the story of utrh is about Jason's relationship with Bruce that's what Jason cares about everything else the way jason thinks crime should be handled and his morals on killing are all secondary - jason doesn't actually want Bruce to kill Joker and he doesn't really expect him to, it's all theatre
If Jason actually wanted Joker dead or just to prove his system works better then Bruce's he wouldn't have to go through the whole show and dance of the stand off - he could of killed Joker when he had him tied up like Joker literally asked him why am I not dead and that's when Jason's says bc this isn't about you - I don't know how Judd could write that whole scene out and people still don't get it
So then we get to my point about Dick killing the Joker and how that wouldn't mean anything to Jason since Dick isn't Bruce and its really as simple as that - Jason wants to prove a point to Bruce, Dick killing the Joker before Jason has a chance to prove said point wouldn't help him at all it would of just made it more difficult for Jason to get the resolve he needed with Bruce and that's it
#ask#anon#like even in final countdown#when Jason meets a bruce that actually killed the joker#hes disgusted not happy#bc killing the joker wasnt the point#jason just wanted to prove a point#to bruce and to himself#that Bruce would never be able to give Jason what he needed#the fact that Joker was the one to kill him#helps his point a wee bit#just bc joker is like the worst of the worsr#but at the end of the day#its more#the man that killed me is still alive#i didnt matter enough to you for you to kill him#so im gonna do it myself here in front of you#but yeah a lot of dc writers also get this point confused#so i dont really blame you for getting confused#but yeah#dick killing joker would of just fucked with Jasons plans#and not provide jason with the actual resolve he needed with bruce

Do we ever get an arc of Peter like training his spidey sense? Like from what I’ve read so far it seems like he hasn’t trained it yet and I can imagine like Bruce and Peter having bonding time by Bruce helping him train it or introducing him to someone who can help him train it
i really really REALLY want some scenes with this dynamic. peter collects mentor figures and i've had it set up for a while now that bruce and peter are going to train at least once because can you IMAGINE spider-man that's trained with batman???? EVERYONE IS FUCKED every enemy of spider-man after that is FUCKED
#erinwantstowrite#ao3#ao3 fanfic#leap of faith ao3#peter parker#leap of faith catch me if you can#leap of faith#thank you for the ask!#bruce wayne#i also really want peter to have scenes with other JL members#not just batfam training#one of his agendas for friendsgiving is so he can meet and collect a bunch of superheroes to train with#like Peter is going into this expecting at least one of them to teach him smth#he can't be stopped#he looked at the avengers and basically said “oh well if they're using me for info then im going to make them teach me”#and they were surprised but happy#peter: god im so standoffish and awkward#actually peter: i have to be your friend/student/family now it's in the rule book#he's so silly#peter's perception of himself will always kill me#“i don't trust people”#babe you might not trust them with yourself but you inherently have so much love you can not contain

It was a dreary day, as it often was in Gotham. Danny was just returning from the funeral of Jason Todd, his core heavy and head fuzzy. He enters his store, only to see that his time here is up. The 5 years are over, and it’s time to go. Danny falls to the floor, no longer holding back the tears. It feels like his core has cracked from the grief. How can he just leave now, of all times? Won’t he even be allowed time to grej e before they go? A little giggle snaps his mind back to reality. Is head snaps in the direction of the sound, comming from the corner nook that the store always set up for him… for Jason. His core was thrumming with painful hope, and then, his eyes found the source of those light giggles, and Danny’s core soared. There he was! It was little Jason, his Jason, in the corner, sitting in the corner, reading a new book, just like he used to do. Danny couldn’t help himself, he rushed over, grabbing the little Robin in a tight hug, startling the little ghostling.
It’s been a few weeks now, since the store packed up and took them to a new location. Danny was filled with so many mixed emotions the night he found Jason, the night they left. Now having processed his emotions a little more, he’s been thoroughly enjoying telling Jason stories of all the adventures he’s been on, and people he’s met. He’s even gotten to take Jason to his haunt, and show him the library. Seeing the way the little bird’s eye’s lit up at the sight, made Danny’s core thrum with delight. Yes, Jason may have died, but he was safe now. Danny would keep him safe.
The store has been hoping dimensions much more frequently than it used to, only staying in one place for a week or two at a time. Danny’s not sure why, but he’s been enjoying all the adventures he’s been able to go on with Jason, so it doesn’t bother him too much. It’s been a couple months now, and the holidays are comming up soon back home. Maybe he’ll be able to bring Jason with him, he knows that they would absolutely adore Jason. How could they not when he’s so precious, after all?
Something was wrong. Jason was starting to have glitches in his powers. Moments where he would loose his flight and fall back to the floor, or he would get stuck partway through a bookshelf because he became partially tangible. Danny can’t figure out what’s going on, h
no, no, nO, NO, NO…. He’s gone. The only thing remaining being a small shade of a little Robin, that still happily filters around the store. Danny gently holds the little bird in his hands, cradling it close to his core, as he sobs, having once again lost his Jason.
Time moves on. He still misses Jason terribly. Still mourns, still grieves, still looks in the corner, hoping, no expecting, Jason to be there. But time moves on, and eventually, a new normal is established. Danny takes some solace in the small little shade that still happily flits around the store. It’s not the same Jason that he wishes to come back, but… it’s a piece of him, and he takes comfort in that fact. Back when it first happened, he had rushed the little Robin off to Frostbite and explained the situation, hoping that maybe, just maybe, he could help somehow. Frostbite had shaken his head sadly, saying that he had never seen a case like it before, and there was nothing he could do to help. The store moves around less now. Staying in most places for months at a time. Never as long as when they found Jason, but it went back to it’s usual routine. Sometimes Danny wondered if somehow, it had known. The store had stayed just long enough to take Jason with them, down to the exact day, and during his short stay with them, they had gone on more adventures in more places than he had before up to that point. It felt like the store had known, and that it wanted to give Jason as many adventures as it could before he would leave them again.
‘Why am I here again? Why have you brought me back to this dimension? I do not wish to relive these painful memories.’ Danny uncomfortably nuzzles the little Robin perched on his shoulder, an unconscious habit he had picked up when he was particularly missing Jason. He stared wistfully out the door, wishing to see his little ghostling come rushing through the door, but he knew that was impossible. Jason… his Jason, was gone. He was so lost in thought that he didn’t hear the little bell on his door jingle as it opened, didn’t notice the familiar presence entering his store. Then the little Robin perked up, and flitted off his shoulder. Danny quickly reached out to grab it, frantic, not wanting to loose the last piece of Jason he has left, but he is unsuccessful. The little Robin lands on the new person’s shoulder, and gently nuzzles the crook of their neck, chirping happily. That when Danny notices. He looks at the figure, a red hood covers their face, but he can tell. He can feel. This is Jason Todd. Alive and in front of him. His breath hitches in his throat, and his eyes go all misty.
“Whoa, this place was gone when I came back… man, I’ve missed this place.”
He’s back, Jason was home. And this time, Danny was going to do everything within his power too keep it that way. His little ghostling would stay safe, even if the world was ending, nothing would dare lay a finger on his little ghostling anymore.
DCxDP fanfic idea:Vanishing Bookstore
Danny opens a bookstore. Initially, it was his private library, a place tp store all the books he gather from different parts of the glob and different Earths.
Mr. Lancer finally wore him down, causing Danny's love of reading to blossom at the end of his Freshman year. The teacher did so by having him come in person to speak about any kind of book as makeup work, as long as he learned how to dissect what he read and get proper reading comprehension.
Danny found that he could enjoy literature if he wasn't forced to write an essay afterward. But spending lunchtimes with his English teacher arguing about Narina's moral concepts was practically the same as the essay; it was just funnier.
It was the final push he needed to move to the next grade. By the skin of his teeth, but he did it. Mr. Lancer had been so proud of him.
That summer, Danny had been grounded for various weeks due to the ghosts attacks taking him away from his school and chores. Since he wasn't allowed to watch TV, or use the computer Danny had chosen to pick up books from Jazz's young adult fantasy shelves.
He never looked back.
Suddenly, it was like Danny could only go somewhere with something to read. He jumped genres but always fell back to fantasy, escaping into magical worlds between pages. Something about that reminded him of exploring the different worlds within the Infinate Realms, and Danny found himself addicted.
It became his entire identity. Sam was the goth girl, Tucker the tech geek, and Danny the book nerd. His friends and family quickly learned that any gift-giving event was going to lead to a long list of books Danny was waiting to get his grabby little hands on.
Even the classics Mr. Lancer once had to fight him to read were entertaining now that he understood their subtext and inferences that used to go over his head as a kid.
Jazz took him to get his library card which became Danny's most prized possession until high school graduation. Once Danny got his first part-time job- working for Sam's family company but hey if he had a rich friend who was willing to pay him to answer calls who was he to say no?- Danny started buying his own books.
He shopped at local second-hand bookstores, online websites, and chain bookstores and even ventured into the Ghost Zone to see what literature wonders they had to offer. He found that his human money had a far better exchange rate then he was expecting, making it possible to buy a lot more and at cheaper prices in the Zone.
He even found parallel words that sold the same books he was reading. Once, he saw a book he had waited two years to release at a marked-down price because that world had the book out for five years. Danny almost died of joy to find the special edition.
His room, which once had nothing by NASA, was now filled with bookshelve after bookshelve of his treasures. His parents allowed him to expand his little library in the attic once he ran out of room.
Danny had no idea what to do when his parents asked him what he planned to do once he ran out of room there. By that point, he had started to move the older ones into his Haunt in the Ghost zone, amazed that it had shifted into a Libary that rivaled the likes of Libary of Alexandria. He had so many different ones that he could organize by all ten categories of the Dewey Decimal System in his Haunt, making him wonder if he had consumed that much writing in the past four years. (He had. His parents were worried)
Ghosts had even started asking if they could visit his library, and before long, he had opened one of Ghost Zona's first Public libraries. His only charge was that if a new ghost wanted a library card, they had to donate at least three books. His collection grew and grew with each passing day.
Blob ghosts appointed themselves as Danny's librarians, carefully filing his newest additions to his growing delight. Danny now always had something new to read.
He consumed so much that a new title was bestowed onto him. Danny Phantom: Master of Knowledge.
Though that was a rather silly title if you asked Danny, he enjoyed a good read whenever he was awake. Just because he learned while reading didn't mean he was the master of it. However, he did gain a massive patchwork of knowledge that he could usually apply anywhere, making people assume he was all-knowing.
That did not solve the problem of getting too many books, and often, he found copies of the same ones added to his shelves again and again. His blob ghosts didn't think to reject copies because then ghosts couldn't visit his haunt and would be denied books.
Danny would never deny anyone books. He just had to figure out what to do with the copies and old books he was no longer interested in.
Jazz told him to try and have a yard sale of the ones he no longer wanted, and seeing as there were some series he could go without, Danny gave it a shot.
He made a surprising amount of money, but it was far from the amount he had spent to purchase them. Still, watching people get excited as they walk away with bags of books more than made up for it. After his third yard sale, Danny made up his mind.
He would attach a bookstore to his Haunt.
He wasn't sure how since his library had built itself. It seemed unwilling to add on to it that it was a slightly different business. His haunt only expanded to accommodate the library that he was building there. It took reading five rare books that Clockwork had gifted him to find what was once lost knowledge.
Haunt Manipulation.
It was risky, but Danny created the Infinite Realms Bookstore with enough concentration, some runes, a dash of overly powerful ectoplasm, and some of his core bits. He chose to run this one because the blobs seemed frightened of hackling with customers, and frankly, seeing people be happy was a different kind of rush.
Things were fine for a few years. He didn't need to work now that he had a steady cash flow—though sometimes he had to find someone willing to trade for US Earth 23-19 dollars. He was his own boss with his books to read, his body not needing sleep or food while in the zone, and his ability to lose himself in between pages whenever he wanted.
Then, his bookstore fell off his haunt. It was like an apple falling from a tree- it grew too heavy for the Haunt to handle- flinging Danny into a nearby Earth portal. Luckily, he could get back to the Zone with the spell he placed on his backdoor, and his haunt was in the same place as it always was.
It turns out that Haunt Manipulation is no longer an extended practice because it cannot anchor anywhere. It vanishes and reappears randomly, lingering for a few months. Danny finds that the last haunt like this is now named the House of Mysteries.
At first, Danny was really annoyed by this, until he realized that he could once again walk among humans and spread his library to different worlds. He especially loved it when he appeared in areas where he could teach people to read.
Something about introducing people to his obsession was almost as fulfilling as his obsession itself.
He became a strange but wise man in some worlds and a god of knowledge in others. Danny was having the time of his life, flinging between timelines, exploring dimensions, and still being able to port back to his regular Haunt that connected him to his home.
He saw his parents every Thanksgiving and Christmas. He was able to be the Best man at Jazz's wedding, saw Tucker become the head of his own tech company, and was one of the first to meet Sam's girlfriend between his exploring.
Infinite Realms Bookstore's newest location was on an intriguing Earth behind Danny's home world regarding technology. It was a crime-infested city with far too many problems for its own good. His bookstore also chooses to plant itself right smack in the middle of the worst part of town.
On the far back wall, in the elegant letter, it read "Five years," meaning Danny and the bookstore would be here for five years before it vanished. Strangely, it was the longest time that it had lingered in one place.
Danny suspected that Infinite Realms Bookstore was starting to develop a mind of its own. His books were organizing themselves overnight now, and he was sure he never saw any blob ghosts about.
That did not stop him from happily opening his doors to Crime Alley anyway. The morning of his first day in Gotham, while sipping some coffee- he forgot how good it tasted!- a young boy wandered in.
He was obviously looking for an escape, so Danny willed some chairs and tables to appear in the far back. A complimentary snack section appeared a few seconds later, and there was a "Feel free to read anything off the shelves" sign.
The kid's eyes widened when he spotted them before he hastily raced toward the classics and selected two large volumes. He planted himself at one of the tables surrounded by drinks and cookies and didn't move for hours.
Danny left him to it, choosing to close when the kid left. It was tweleve long hours but worth it to see the glee on the tiny litte face as he flipped through pages.
The next day, he came back, and the one after that. Before long, Danny had his first regular.
That regular is a young boy named Jason Todd.
Jason reminded Danny of himself when he first got into reading, which led to him making a deal with the young boy. He would let Jason bring books to trade, allowing the boy to take home whatever he wanted in exchange. This meant Danny could get books from this new dimension and Jason didn't have to worry about finaces.
There was a time where Danny was pretty sure Jason was just reselling him back his own books. But seeing as Jason looked more and more like he was having a hard time finding a good meal, Danny pretended not to notice.
This is similar to when his bookstore developed free showers for him to use only when he was about or private reading rooms with a warm bed. Jason early took advantage of these, unaware that they vanished from view to all other customers once he stepped inside.
Sometimes, he falls asleep and spends the night inside those private reading rooms when Danny "forgets" to walk through the store before closing.
Everyone else paid because they didn't make Danny's core sing like Jason. It was easy to tell when the boy became Robin, as he found the vigilante pulling Batman to his window and pointing out books. The moment that mask little face pressed against his glass, Danny knew who it was.
Just as he knew the next day when, Bruce Wayne opened his door to buy everything that Robin had wanted. Danny kept that to himself, though. He figured it would be funnier if they thought they were sneaky.
Maybe this place would be his finest location yet.
