(SPOILERS if you haven't seen the show yet):
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Lois Lane has a cut out clip of Vicki Vale. Vicki Vale is a journalist in Gotham City. Her first appearance was in Batman #49 (1948) as seen in the panel here (W: Bill Finger, A: Lew Sayre and Bob Kane, I: Charles Paris, L: Ira Schnapp).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Looks like Jimmy is a fan of Legend of Zelda Majora's Mask. Good video game taste.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Jimmy mentions a psychic starfish and the one starfish in the DC universe who is psychic is Starro the Conqueror, who's first appearance is in Brave and the Bold 28 (1960) (the cover art here is done by Mike Sekowsky, Murphy Anderson, and Ira Schnapp) and has the power to mind control people.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Lois, after barging into Perry White's office about a story, mentions Mt. Simonson. This is a neat name drop to Superman: The Man of Steel writer Louise Simonson, one of the nicest comic book writers you'll ever meet. She helped co-create John Henry Irons a.k.a Steel with artist of the Superman: The Man of Steel comic, Jon Bogdanove (really hope we get to see Irons in this show too).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Jon Bogdanove also gets a name drop here as does...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Dan Jurgen, comic book writer and artist on the Superman comic in the 90s (also one of my favorite Superman artists).
Now who are these kids that call themselves the Newskid Legion? Well, they are a VERY deep DC cut and reference to the Newsboy Legion back in the 1940s. The group was created by Joe Simon and Jack Kirby, LEGENDARY comic book creators.
Tumblr media
The page here is from Who's Who: The Definitive Directory of the DC Universe #16 (1986) with the art by Jack Kirby and Karl Kesel. Most of the Newskid Legion is named after the Newsboy Legion members
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Gabby and Big Words here share names with their Newsboy Legion counterparts as does Flip Johnson...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
who shares names with Walter "Flip" Johnson here on the cover of Superman's Pal Jimmy Olson #137 (1971) which was done by Jack Kirby, Neal Adams, and Gaspar Saladino.
Tumblr media
Patty, the cartoonist of the Newskid Legion homages this panel from Adventures of Superman #500 (1993) (W: Karl Kesel, P: Tom Grummet, I: Doug Hazelwood, C: Glenn Whitmore, L: Albert DeGuzman), the first appearance of Superboy, Conner Kent/ Kon-El.
Tumblr media
But who is the one below that drawing? We'll his name is in Big Word's word puzzle, in the show. It's Jim Harper, the Guardian.
Tumblr media
Jim Harper becomes the Newsboy Legion's legal guardian despite their causing trouble for him. The page here is from Star Spangled Comics #7, the Newsboy Legion and the Guardian's first appearance, by Joe Simon, Jack Kirby, and Whitney Ellsworth. You might've seen the Guardian on the recent Young Justice cartoon.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
When Lois, Clark, and Jimmy go investigate about the smuggled robots in Metropolis, Jimmy makes a reference to super intelligent gorillas in France. This is a subtle hint at Monsieur Mallah, the Doom Patrol villain who will be in the show along with his partner, the Brain. Both made their first appearance in Doom Patrol #86 (1964) .
Tumblr media
The cover art here is done by Arnold Drake, Bob Brown, and Ira Schnapp.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Later in the episode we see Clark receive his powers and he is surrounded with electricity, giving off Superman Blue vibes when in the comics, Superman gained electricity powers and became Electric Blue Superman who's first appearance was in Superman #123 (1997) (cover art by Dan Jurgens, Joe Rubenstein, Patrick Martin, and Todd Klein.

People I'd Like to Know: Tumblr Tag Game
Algy was tagged by his friend @edinburgh-by-the-sea in Scotland's beautiful capital city, whom he thanks very kindly for choosing him. Algy wasn't sure whether his friend really wanted to know about his own fluffy bird tastes or those of his assistant, so he has answered for both 😀
Algy's current obsession: finding his way home in time for Christmas 🎄 His assistant's current obsession: maintaining health and finding time and energy to produce exciting new work for Algy's assistants' new collaborative tumblr blog @novelties-and-notions in addition to assisting Algy with his adventures every single day…
Algy is looking forward to: Christmas, Hogmanay (a tumblr party?), and his 13th tumblr birthday on 13th March 2025 (definitely a tumblr party!) Double 13! 🎄🎉🎁 His assistant is looking forward to: all kinds of new adventures in creativity
Last book Algy read: The Oxford Book of English Verse. As many of Algy's followers will know, Algy loves good poetry and has his own Algy-sized collection of volumes of verse. Last books Algy's assistant read (re-read): The Magic Mountain by Thomas Mann, in translation, and Joy in the Morning by P G Wodehouse.
Algy's assistant is sometimes asked for reading recommendations. She spent much time on her own when young, and therefore started reading, and learned to love books, at a precociously early age… there was nothing else to do! Significant influences which persist to this day include, roughly IN THE ORDER ORIGINALLY READ from early childhood: Beatrix Potter and the Winnie the Pooh stories; many classic collections of fairytales (esp. collected by Andrew Lang and the Brothers Grimm) and the works of Hans Christian Anderson; The Wind in the Willows; fairytale/fantasy works by George MacDonald; Peter Pan; the Dr. Dolittle stories by Hugh Lofting; Lewis Carroll; The Cuckoo Clock by Mrs Molesworth; The Secret Garden and The Little Princess by Frances Hodgson Burnett; works by Rudyard Kipling; C S Lewis; J R R Tolkien (first read at the age of 9 but only occasionally since); P G Wodehouse (20th century master of the use of English and of humour – a lifelong indulgence in reading); Charles Dickens (his descriptive powers have rarely if ever been equalled); Arthurian Romances; and all works by Jane Austen, Henry James, Thomas Mann, Kurt Vonnegut, Joseph Heller and – beyond fiction – Ludwig Wittgenstein. And of course Shakespeare, who inevitably has some influence on anyone who has ever studied English, plus many, many other more forgettable writers in various genres.
Although many of the titles above were written as fiction for children, she has continued to re-read those works over the years, as may be evident in Algy's adventures 😀
And for those who have asked for reading recommendations, especially those folk of an older generation who have not yet had the opportunity to read very much – and also for aspiring writers – she would say that if you have not yet read much literature, but wish to, then don't waste precious time on lesser authors but read the very best stuff first 😊
(And anyone who wishes to "be a writer", in no matter what kind of genre or style, is advised to first of all master the use of language – and the best way to do that is by reading past masters extensively. Like any other highly skilled activity, if you want to mess around with it and make it jump through hoops, you have to thoroughly master the basic skill set first.)
Last song Algy listened to: When the red, red robin comes bob, bob, bobbin' along 😀
Last movie Algy watched: Mary Poppins (the original 1964 movie) Algy is fascinated by the incredible animation with live action sequence, and by the remarkable Dick van Dyke, who has just celebrated his 99th birthday! Last movies Algy's assistant watched: W C Fields' International House and the Marx Brothers The Cocoanuts… Why a duck? 🤣
Last TV show: Algy and his assistant NEVER watch televsion, though they do watch movies. They have better things to do with their time than watch TV 😀 Algy's assistant's family didn't have a television until she was about 10 years old, and much of her adult life has been spent without television too.
Sweet/spicy/savory: Not really. 🌰🍏🍉🥦🍓🧀🥕🍚🍅🥛🥒🍞
Favourite colour: Green and yellow and orange 💚🧡💛😀
Last thing we googled: Google Translate – for help with communication with tumblr friends who don't speak English ☺️ And Google Maps to find out where is where, as Algy has followers all over the world. His grasp of geography is fluffy, and his assistant's is not much better!
Relationship status: Algy is of course in a fluffy relationship with his rather incompetent assistant, who is permanently united with her lifelong partner and spouse.
Tagging: Algy understands that he is supposed to tag friends to prompt them to play too, but he suspects that the folk he would most like to know about might feel too shy or unduly pressured to do this. So he invites ALL his friends to play this game, and leaves it up to them. He would love to know more about you 😍

hi!! it’s me again ahaha :) i absolutely loved what you did w my request omg!!! your so so talented <33 i have another ideaaa okay so it’s summer n abby and you n her friends (like mel, owen, manny yk) wanna go to the beach or somewhere but reader is super self conscious abt their scars (bc the others don’t know) but abby already knows so she’s like reassuring them n stuff!! and then they go to the beach n have the best time!! <333 also do u do emoji anons? if so could i be 🪐 anon? it’s okay if not i js think if will be easer than me going it’s me again or the one who requested this ahaha!! but if not that’s okay no pressure!! also sorry if this one is a but confusing 🩷🩷
abby anderson x fem reader.
abby reassures her girlfriend before going to the beach.
warnings: reader has self-h*rm scars although it isn't explicitly mentioned.
a/n: hi 💐!! i'm sorry it took me some time to fill this request. but now it's done! i'm not sure how i feel about it, honestly. but i think i like it? i'm honestly not the biggest fan of the beach, but anyways! owen and mel are in this, by the way! . i hope you like it! <33
you were on the balcony, enjoying the sun on your face when the door of your apartment opened. you heard keys being put down and footsteps coming your way.
you felt her lips against the side of your neck and her arms wrapping around you. “good morning, sweet girl.” you smiled and turned around to look into her eyes. “good morning to you too, my love.” you kissed her lips.
abby woke up before you that day. she had promised mel to help her build her kid’s new bed. “how’s mel?” you asked.
“she’s good, her belly is the size of a watermelon now... also, owen is really bad at building furniture.” she chuckled.
“oh, by the way”, abby said, taking your hands into hers. “they asked if we wanted to go to the beach with them this afternoon? it’s really warm and sunny... what do you think?” you tried to force a smile. “i don’t really feel like going but – you can go without me.”
abby noticed something was bothering you, and she knew what it was. she squeezed your hands. “hey, i promise it’ll go well. they won’t even notice.” she said softly. you shook your head. “i know. but what if they do? what if they judge me for it? plus, i don’t think i’ll feel comfortable in a swimsuit, abs. i’m sorry.” you looked down at your arms.
she kissed your forehead and held you tightly before bringing you back inside. she led you to your bedroom and started looking through your shared closet. “what are you doing?” you asked, sitting on the bed. “trying to find you something that could help you feel comfortable.”
she searched for a few minutes before putting down her finds on the bed. “i found some of my old swim shorts, you could wear them. i also found you a veil. you could wear it to hide your arms, if you feel uncomfortable.”
you smiled. “thank you, abby.” she leaned down to kiss you. “they won’t judge you. i promise. all they want is for all of us to have a good time. and if you feel really uncomfortable, i could pack one of your sweatshirts in our bag. okay?” you nodded and left a peck on her lips. “i love you.” you whispered, making her smile.
mel and owen were already there. owen was putting sunscreen on mel’s back. “hey, guys!” abby said as you arrived at their level. “bob the builder’s in the house!” mel joked. you smiled and hugged mel and owen.
you sat on your towel, in your swimsuit and abby’s shorts, her sitting behind you in her bikini top and shorts. you held the veil on your shoulders, abby leaving small kisses against the fabric. “you guys are adorable...” you looked at mel and thanked her. “you’re really lucky to have abby at home... owen can’t build shit.” mel tried to say quietly. owen turned around, offended. “hey! i built a baby inside you, ma’am.” you all laughed.
a few minutes later, you were all in the water. abby kept looking at you to make sure you were feeling alright – you left the veil on your towel. “don’t worry, baby. i’m okay.” you whispered into her ear. she nodded and kissed you. “good.”
owen threw water to abby which then ended into a water fight between the two of them.
abby came to you and picked you up as you yelled for her to put you down. she walked out of the water and put you down on your towel. you looked at her. her braid was barely hanging on, water dripping down her neck and shoulders, falling on your body. some drops found their way on her chest. “what’re you looking at, beautiful?” you blushed and looked up, your eyes falling on her lips. she smiled and kissed you softly. “do my lips taste salty?” she asked you, smiling. you nodded and kissed her back, biting her bottom lip.
“get a room, you two!” owen joked behind, making you pull away from your girlfriend. “shut up.” abby said standing up.
the afternoon was coming to an end. you had spent the last hour under the sun next to mel. abby was busy reading a book and owen probably fell asleep.
abby promised mel to come by the next week to build a changing table. mel also said that you could come as well for lunch. the couple thanked you for this nice afternoon and you all parted ways.
on the drive back home, abby had her hand on your thigh. “how’re you feeling? did you have a good afternoon?” you put your hand above hers and smirked. “mhm. i did. t’was nice. also – you look really good when you’re wet.” she quickly looked at you and smiled. “oh, really? thank you, pretty girl.” she squeezed your thigh. “and you look good under me.” she said, a smirk on her face.
abby was right: it went well. neither mel and owen asked any questions about your scars.
“thank you for making sure i was alright, abby.” you said quietly. “of course, m’love.” she stopped at a red light and brought your hand to her lips, kissing it. “i love you.”

Whatever aU first comes to mind upon reading this for the 5 hcs game! :DD
As you probably predicted, I'm choosing to talk about my OceanBerry AU (aka my Chucky AU/Retelling of the Chucky TL)!
1. You remember the three human friends that Chucky is buddies with that I've talked about in this post long ago?
Well I FINALLY have found some live action faceclaims for them!! (Please don't take the IRL ages of these actors into account since I only need them to demonstrate appearance)
Here they are!
(Left to Right)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Don Rivers: Bruce Willis (as David Dunn in Glass)
Zach Galifianakis: Jerry Hickens (as Ethan Chase in Due Date) (and w only a bushy mustache)
Blake Anderson: Bob Berkeley (as Blake in Workaholics)
2. I have also found live action faceclaims for Glen's boyfriend Kahuna and Glenda's girlfriend Natalie (OCs of mine) as well!
And same as the first time, real ages of the actors does not factor in choosing them as a faceclaim, only appearance is!
(Left to Right)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kahuna Mahelona: Jason Scott Lee (as Mowgli in Rudyard Kipling's The Jungle Book (1994) (add on hair/bangs that covers his eyes + slightly more muscular)
Natalie Winchester: Kim Director (as Kim Diamond in Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2) (have hair dye at the ends of her hair instead of being streaks in her hair)
3. Chucky and Eddie are in the midst of attempting to reconcile and reestablish their adoptive brotherhood (since before the Big Incident in 1988, Chucky and Eddie regarded each other as brothers)
They still have a LOT of sour feelings on each other's ends for their own respective reasons (Chucky for being abandoned when he needed his little brother the most and Eddie for literally being blown tf up)
Eddie is still much more resentful than Chucky since Chucky started to feel more thankful towards Eddie as time went on with having his family, Eddie tends to be a lot more snappier and grumpier around Chucky but is still able to tolerate him and even sometimes have a good bonding moment like they used to
Chucky on the other hand just acts like how an asshole big brother would to their little brother, just messing with them in stupid ways like how they used to do as kids/young adults
4. If anyone ever wanted to know what John/Dr. Death does in his free time/where he lives in the Ray house, he basically just keeps to himself in the attic of the house studying and practicing his magic and spirituality
He does come down to other parts of the house on occasion and regularly interacts with the Rays (but talks to and hangs out with Eddie the most), since he acts as the family's advisor/guide the kids and Chucky tend to go to him in the attic a lot since he tends to have knowledge they need
The state of Chucky and John's friendship is still... Icy but is much better than it was before!
I also HC that they were childhood friends as well, thus that being how Chucky found him to teach him Magic and Soul Bending/Shifting (what I'm calling the spell/s where Chucky would transfer souls and such) and Soulmancy (what I'm replacing the Voodoo with cuz yall know why)
If you are unfamiliar with John Bishop and his role in OceanBerry, here is this post!
His Appearance/Info
5. The Rays do, in fact, have a dog that acts as a family companion and guard dog that keeps the house and the kids safe (in Chucky's words) that they all got as a puppy when the youngest (my Chiffany fankid Buddy) was around 9 years old
The dog is a 4 year old medium sized but very muscular German Shepherd/Pitbull Mix that's dubly named King Ghidorah, very vicious, strong and protective of his property and family when need be, but is most of the time a giant sweetheart that likes to think he's a lapdog
Fun fact: King Ghidorah was given to The Rays by Chucky's friend Jerry when he had found the pup in a box of "free puppies" that was stationed in front of the Walmart that's in Hackensack and decided that a puppy from that box would've made a GREAT birthday gift for Buddy
Ofc, since Buddy was a 9 year old, he LOVED it! King Ghidorah is now closest/bonds the most with Buddy, Chucky, and June/Junior all in that order (though Ghidorah loves EVERYONE)!
-----------------------------------------------------
HOLY SHIT THIS TOOK FOREVER MY GOD!!!!!!
I am soso sorry that this took SO LONG for me to post this, it took a lotta time to come up with all this info for you, let alone type it all out lol!
I hope that the wait was well worth it and that you let me in on your feedback on this my dear lovely friend!
I hope that you enjoy reading all this and have a fantastic evening!!

Asteroid City (2023)
Tumblr media
Visually, compositionally, Wes Anderson is without peer, and any individual shot out of his latest film will make practically every other movie released this year look like a provincial teenager's first TikTok video. Everywhere you look the details are never-endingly exquisite and hilarious, and my eyes haven't experienced so much pleasure since the last Wes Anderson flick. He's the only director left standing that I will still pay to go to a cinema to see.
The downside is that the story itself is awkward, convoluted, flimsy and whimsical - flimsical, if you will - and it's often hard to follow or care about what is going on, especially in the larger story arc, which flits between a black & white 1950s TV production and the glorious technicolor of the main story. I would have been perfectly happy to have lost the needlessly distracting B&W sections, as they add very little in the long run, and sap the energy and pace of the rest. The clever story Anderson is trying to tell here could work, but he doesn't have a strong enough grip on all the narrative and character elements to convey it in a clear and emotionally engaging way, so there are parts that feel more of a private joke or a personal fancy than a work made for the wider world. It could be I'll think differently about that on further viewings, but I would still expect to find this is what weakens the film the most.
The ridiculously stellar cast is dazzling, but there's just too many famous faces here for one film to do them justice: newcomer Tom Hanks is a great fit but woefully underused, and something similar could be said for Steve Carell, Tilda Swinton, Matt Dillon, Jeff Goldblum, Margot Robbie, Hope Davis, Bob Balaban and Willem Dafoe, all of whom are most welcome sights, but simply aren't onscreen long enough to convey anything of real substance, and they all deserved more fleshed-out roles they could get their teeth into.
For the first time in a Wes Anderson movie there is some rather obvious diversity hiring in the casting department (presumably in order to meet the new qualifications for an Oscar), some of whom work better than others, but the returning Jeffrey Wright and Tony Revolori are both excellent, and Ethan Josh Lee is a good new addition to the family.
Bryan Cranston and Edward Norton get more screen-time than most, but the first feels like a walk-on guest spot in a TV sketch show and the other looks somewhat lost in the confusing shuffle. Jason Schwartzman is, of course, the perfect Anderson avatar, and Scarlet Johansson is, for the most part, very dependable too. Liev Schreiber fits in surprisingly well, and the running gags with his son Aristou Meehan are perhaps the funniest high points of the film.
-----
All in all, it's hard to know how to rate this: it's definitely one of the weakest Wes Anderson movies, but for all the undeniable flaws in narrative it still gives me more joy to watch than just about anything else modern cinema has to offer, and I think by December I might still regard it the best thing I've seen all year. So that's odd.

I’ve bolded those names who are either current or former members of the BJU Board of Trustees. UPDATE: I eliminated this indication after receiving all the names who signed.
The men present who voted unanimously were either all of those or some of those. We don’t know. We can presume that the Officers were all likely present: Kevin Schaal, Gordan Dickson, Taigen Joos, Bud Steadman, and Michael Privett.
Who abstained? Bob III didn’t. Mike Harding as a present BJU Board member? Stephen Jones as a very absent member of the Royal family? Mark Minnick as a current employee?
The only name on there that I can guarantee did not abstain was Don Johnson, but he’s an old friend of mine. ;)
What do you think?
UPDATE, May 15, 2023: The Positives have added an unredacted signatory list. WutBJU will mark all those signatories on the above list in bold italics.
